You can also use a setting spray as a primer. It really helps create a barrier between your skin and the makeup. Great for combo/oily skin.

Really interesting video, thanks Kackie! By the way, the main studied benefit of a Vit C serum (if you use a good stable one, they're not all equal) is that it helps your SPF be more effective. So it's really great to use during daytime under your SPF.

I cannot figure out how to find an effective one. I suspect this expensive one from boxycharm is just nonsense, and it's not even scented like strawberries, lol if you aren't giving me natural fragrance, don't use fruit in your serums, volition! I hope the ordinary alpha arbutin & ascorbic will be good, the regular AA has been good, I think, it's mostly prevention, my spots are very stubborn...3 years, little change.

So helpful! I've been just getting into skincare and makeup in the past year or so (I'm 38) and the biggest challenge has definitely been skin prep, especially figuring out why a foundation works sometimes and other times is atrocious, and also what won't make my sensitive skin and roseaca freak out.
One thing I've learned is that even though I get quite oily, because I have an easily disrupted skin barrier from the roseaca, things go better for application and avoiding breakouts when I do my skincare and makeup prep as if I have dry skin. But then that leads to less longevity as the oils always come through strong. I've never not had my complexion products look all broken up and weird after a few hours.
Anyway, I really appreciate your videos - I've learned a lot and it's always a nice time. 💜

I bought verdant force field literally the second you first talked about it. I’d been eyeing it on the website and I was sold when you recommended it. It is magic! I have v dry skin and I use it under spf and my regular primer routine and it is perfect for makeup days 🤩🤩🤩. I even use it in light layers throughout my evening skincare routine! Verdant force field and stratia liquid gold have literally saved my skin 😊

@@Justaregularoldplumbus it says moisturizer in the description but I almost feel like it’s a hearty serum type of product. I use it kind of like Krave great barrier relief if you’re familiar with that. I definitely use a heavier moisturizer on top, especially at night. A lot of the ingredients seem very concentrated so it makes sense to me to use it more as a treatment step, then moisturize.

On the conversation of prepping your skin for all the different types of states that your skin is in, I like to joke that I have the most combo skin because I have super dry under eyes, normal-dry but extremely sensitive cheeks, and the most oily t-zone with mild rosacea to boot. So on a regular basis I use 3 different primers and layer 2 eye creams for all the different areas on my face, and hey it's excessive but it works 😂. Things also started to work more consistently for me when I prepped my skin for the driest area of my face. So if my cheeks are super dry, I use a thicker moisturizer or something like the Make reverse emulsion all over before makeup, and if my cheeks are more normal, I use a simple gel moisturizer. I don't know why it works for me, but it does.

Highly recommend Lab Muffins video on HA, it is not quite as difficult to manage w dry skin as previously thought. Personally, it was switching to a cream w urea that finally allowed my skin to fully hydrate & hold it in, the HA helps, but was not really drying out my skin, it was the lack of a truly effective occlusive.

Does anyone have suggestions for a budget friendly ultra sheer blush that can be used as a finishing powder? Someone gave me a compact of lancôme blush subtil, it was probably in a free gift lol, and it's just too sheer for even my fair-light skin. @ $33 it seems crazy expensive, and I wanted to use it, so I tried it as a finishing powder and I 😍 ♥ it so much, it's a lovely feel, but more importantly, a fab finish for my mature skin. But, I am not buying it (when I finish it, prob in >6 months) for $33, hoping to find a great option under $15, ideally under $7. I'm giving up boxycharm, but trying to stay in the price range, but I'll be shopping at tj Maxx too, so higher end options might pop up.
