I've been watching you guys for years since I decided pre-PT was the path I wanted to take in college, to this day halfway through my 1st year as a DPT student. Still my favorite PT videos on UA-cam!
Bob and Brad my name is Calvin and I'm so glad I typed in Physical Therapy for fibula and ankle exercises and you guys were the first doctor's team I've seen and I've had a broken fibula and ankle on my left leg and severe knee sprang right leg..I've seen my orthopedic doctor and last 4 months with PT my O doctor referred me too and I'm haven't been evaluated yet and tired of being sore and stiff..so Thank you Bob and Brad and God bless you two peace..!

Very helpful video, I had a fibula fracture, & I’m still recovering, but definitely feel it healing! Will definitely try these exercises when I can. Thank you doctors!
@Roxana Canales I am 9 wks out from breaking my fibula. However I did not need surgery. But my doc says most ppl with this break do end up needing it. Depends on how it heals. I guess I was one of the lucky ones. Now 6-8 wks of PT. This is a long recovery

Thank you, I have sprained both ankles 2x. After the last one, I have been hesitant to take the long walks I used to with my husband. Thank you for the exercises that will help strengthen my ankles. I was never given this info that I should do these to help prevent future sprains.

Broke my tib/fib & dislocated my ankle this Feb. Had hardware put in. Doing physio daily since I could weight bare. Still really stiff& swells but I'm moving forward. Compression sock helping great. Going watch a bunch of your videos add in a bit more :)
I dislocated and broke my ankle in 2 places on 1/24/18. I’m now in a walking boot. I started out 2 weeks ago with the boot, crutches and orders to do 50% percent weight bearing. 2 days ago my doctor gave me the ok to do 100% weight bearing with my boot and crutches. Broke my fibula on Christmas eve. What a way to spend our holiday. I guess everything happens for a reason. I feel like I don't have enough motion in my ankle for strength training at physical therapy yet.
I am just about to come out of a fibreglass caste after 6 weeks (my upper body strength is the best its been for years!) so you guys are the first people I turn to to find out what I'll need to be doing to get my ankle back into shape ... thanks for being famous on the internet!
Thanks for the video, broke my fibula and sprained my ankle pretty bad. Been in a air cast, which was my 3rd option after the doctor recommend surgery or a cast. I'm glad i followed my intuition, in my 7th week now and I started putting weight on it and walking. Surprised at how much I could do of the weight bearing exercises 🎉. thanks for this video. i fractured my lower fibula (outside right ankle) slipping throwing a spinning kick and landing wrong. got it on video as well. i was lucky i didnt break my fibula clean. the top of my foot hurts more then my ankle after i took my boot off after the first 4 days to have a bath. the nurse didnt put my foot in the air cast properly. kinda sucks but i am recovering fast because i am always trying to pump my toes or do some kind of motion type exercise with the injured foot/ankle . my doctor was not so clear on how to properly enlighten me on the best and fastest road to recovery. he just said no weight barring. i definitely still lost a lot of strength in my right/ dominate leg/foot/ankle but im already getting it stronger everyday and not trying to over do it. i for sure dont want to tare my calf muscle or tare any ligaments or muscles in my foot either.
I'm a 50 year old man. On March 9th I fell off a flatbed truck at work. Height was about 6 feet. I landed very hard on my back and when I rolled onto my right side my knee smacked the ground hard and I was told at the hospital that I had shattered my tibia and femur bones where they connect to my knee and my knee cap was cracked and had a chunk missing. On March 11th I had my first surgery where they applied rods to the outside of my leg, held in place by screws in my upper thigh, lower shin just above my ankle and around my knee. They also inserted a tube to allow it to drain the blood that was pooling in my injury. On March 16th I underwent my second surgery where they inserted one plate and 15 screws. The drainage tube was removed. I've been told that I'm in for a long recovery due to the severity of the injury and how old I am. I haven't started physical therapy yet due to the coronavirus lockdown in my state.
These comments are just what the doctor ordered... most enlightening, 1st hand experiences! Sprained my ankle and broke the fibula at the ankle in January and given Aircast Boot & elbow crutches... suspect it'll need to be nailed/pinned/screwed to the Tibia?
Thanks both, very useful and fun. Especially liked it when you showed how not to do some exercises - so easy to start doing things wrong without really knowing. Steve

Fibular fracture here. Non-displaced. Pain+ Swelling 4wks. Walking air cast from Amazon($50) was all I needed. Walking one crutch wk 4-5. Walking only in the boot week 5-6. Now i go to PT 2x a wk and put a shoe on and walk slow at week 6-7. Its pain level 2 but tightness at a 7 so far but getting larger daily changes for the better.
i’m in a similar position as you, i’m on my 4th week of fracturing and 3nd week of wearing a walking boot. Do you know how long it was till your ankle/fibular area did not have any swelling? and when you started walking in the boot??
Hi, thank you for the video, it really help me, anyway I've just done my fibula fracture about 2 weeks ago and done one of your technique to do exercise, I will do the second tomorrow. I want to ask something, how long I will be able to step on my feet again and do you think it's safe to do your exercise as often as I can?
I injured my right ankle in November last year and at the time stupidly just soldiered on, with runs twice a week plus cardios, and only stopped to rest when I noticed it’s not getting better over Christmas. The fact I can do these shows the injury was not severe but I never allowed it to heal properly. Now almost 5 months later, I can walk on it but long walks are painful to the lateral side which radiates to my toes, and the most pain came from any movement resembling the “lateral shuffle” - with the pain localised to the outside of the ankle and “downwards”, and doesn’t travel forward to the rest of the foot. With the lockdown since March where I am I can’t go and see a physio, so any advice and specific recommendations on action will be appreciated!! I’ve started doing strengthening exercises and will keep at it... Thank you in advance to whoever responds.
Bob and BRAD helped me 2 yrs back with a 3 part femural fracture. My NHS physio signed me off early delighted and amazed at my good recovery, I advise everyine to seek out this brilluant pair .
My fibula and tibula were both fractured, and now my bone is fixed after the surgery and now three months have been passed but my ankel got stiffed so much so I started physiotherapy so in how many days my ankle will regain normal mobality
Thank you for the video! I'm wondering if it is normal that you're unable to control your foot/leg after an intense activity such as hiking, especially after you've recovered from severe ankle sprain? I had a few instances where my leg just kept slipping... as if I didn't have any grip. Doctor didn't think it is any problem. I assume this a normal thing that I should expect whenever I attempt something intense, even if it has been a year after the injury?
Fractured my fibula 8 weeks ago, no surgery needed. Cast was removed 3 weeks ago. Can I do those exercises like the standing tip toes and heels down even if I feel aching pain when doing it (not really sharp pain)
I fractured my fibula and tore my lateral collateral ligament, March 7th 2022 and I’m still in this cam boot! 😭 I feel like it will never heal & my hospital doesn’t have any availability until JULY 8th 🥺 so I’m going elsewhere and gonna start PT myself.
Fractured my fibula and completely dislocated my ankle to the point where my foot was a quarter of the way up my shin, it's been 2 weeks and I already have the OK for full weight bearing and all these exercises made me cringe.... But imma do them! Thanks guys. As others have asked.. curious if anything would change if one has plates and screws in their fibula as I do.

Fractured tibia plateau and fibula now plate screws. Long story short no insurance to cover rehab and funds too limited so I’m needing exercises I can do at home to get me walking again. I was in a brace with no movement and no weight bearing for 3 weeks then got stitches out and went to 90 degree movement but still no weight bearing. After 2 months I’m at 50 % weight bearing and on a walker. Please give me some exercises to help. Thank you
Last month I broke my fibula, tibia and talus. Had surgery. Six weeks in a cast. I’m noticing a different kind of pain now: sharp, stabbing at the incision points. Is it common to feel more of these sharp, stinging pains over time?
I had similiar fracture, surgery with screws and similiar pain which I think is caused by damage to the nerves. I just keep doing excercises and live with it. I am 79 yrs. old. At least I am up walking. If pain annoys me I use a walker. I am just grateful I am not bedridden.
i just had my surgery last week for my fibula fracture on my left leg and doc said i can't bear weight on it for about 8 weeks. Back home now but a bit clueless on what exercises i could do to still remain active for the rest of my body for the next 8 weeks. About to go down the aisle in less than 6 months. Do not wish to look like a potato. Any suggestions? Need help! Thank you in advance!
Want to stop swelling instantly i looked up lymphatic drainage and it works so much better than anything the drs told me..broke my fibula at the ankle oct 5th had surgery oct 13th they put in a plate and 7 screws didnt set my cast right was not 90° and was pointed inward and was told on my post op appt (2 wks and 4 days after surgery) to start walking..ummmm no thanks!!! I waited til the 6 wk mark and the best solution to heal fast was to ice behind my knee it ices the veins and nerves 1st before it hits your ankle/foot and was more effective!!! ALSOOOO massage behind your knee while your leg is lifted in the air it will instantly drain your lower leg ankle and foot it was awesome to get blood flowing better!!! Which is the best way to heal a bone is blood flow so the bones gets nutrients!!!! I promise it'll speed up your recovery and make PT easier if you need it later and I will add I did all this with no pain meds at all and had very minimal pain bc it healed so fast!!!
Can you start stretching the broken ankle after surgery while still in the cast? Or do you have to wait until its completely healed and the cast is removed?
Hi bob and brad, I fractured my fibula 7 weeks ago and I wanted to ask you guys if on the 8 week the doctor decided to get me in an aircast, can i start working with an aircast on?when?
Thanks! I am assuming that these would also help after a distal tibia stress fracture. I just finished 7 weeks non-weight bearing, am currently allowed full ROM and 25% weight-bearing. Obviously I can't do the standing exercises until I am cleared for full weight bearing. So my real question is do these exercises that help the fibula also help the tibia?
Hi guys After a fibula fracture operation, the top surface of the feet still feels less sensitive after 4 months What is the reason? Can you suggest any exercises?

I mean i dont understand how a bone can heal with just being on a boot 😰 im so confused ive never broken or fractured a bone before so i have no idea what to expect pls help !!
I fractured my fibula and one other binge this past Thursday. Got a boot and crutches at emergency but can't get a doctor appointment sooner than 6 months. Guess there are a lot of foot issues in my area.
I have this pain going up and down the outside of my leg and I've been kind of suspicious of the fibula bone but I'm experiencing a lot of pain in the bottom of my foot and the pain radiates up the side of the calve where I believe the fibula bone resides and I was feeling a lot of pain going on in the upper leg but that seems to slowly be dying down. Plus my right leg doesn't quite feel aligned with my left any longer like it feels a hair shorter the pain flares up and sometimes feels like I can't walk and then other times it's just a light tingling MRI of my lower back really showed nothing much to be concerned about very mild squishing of a disc that's probably been there since I was a kid and was prone to jumping out of trees. Right this second the pain seems to be more prominent on the outside of the left calf never experienced this before and nobody knows what the hell I'm talking about help I'm dying

Thankyou for the video
These guys are a hoot!
Yes, thank you both for great information
Marina yes I agree with you, am still 13 weeks post surgery and can't walk yet, very slow progress
Bless you for what you do!
Schrupp and Heineick, thank you, Sir . Your video helps lot for ankle fracture. But the sound is too low.
You guys are awesome!
I just re-injured a sprain 3 weeks before a vacation. A year of planning and thousands of dollars possibly up in smoke over a sprained ankle...
I assume this a normal thing that I should expect whenever I attempt something intense, even if it has been a year after the injury?
great video. question, do you perform these exercises with or without shoes? thank you
Can't stand on one foot for more than 5-7 seconds . Will try that again in a week. Sprained my ankle 9 weeks ago.
intro is awesome😂😂👍
Do you have recommendations for a fibula head that pops out of place when playing soccer?
Do You recommend a compression knee sleeve when the tibula fracture is high back in the knee???
This is great advice !
Hello, I broke my fibula about one and a half or two inches above my ankle but I also tore all my ligaments, I would love to have some advice from you as what are the best therapy exercises for my case. Thank you very much in advance.
Guys you rock, thank you so much!
SO GOOD
I have a compression fracture of the interior ankle bone. What exercise can I do?
Here are all our videos that we have done relating to compression fractures. Hopefully you can find something to help you in one or more of these videos: www.youtube.com/@BobandBrad/search?query=compression%20fracture
Can u guys make an updated video for people that love to run and have lumbar issues/lowback pain please. The video you guys have is like 3 years old audio is bad no offense LOL but maybe you guys have other updated 😊
When can i start exercise?
I have a missing fibula due to mandular flap . What’s a good exercise for me
very helpful❤❤
Hi Bob & Brad, I have read that the RICE method is not shown to improve ankle sprains. What do you think about that?
I can do these but with "dull" pain, similar pain levels to a bruise, is that ok?
Thank you for your video...it help me alots
Should you do these exercises if your ankle is still a little swollen? It has been over 2 weeks for me and it is still a little swollen.
How r u now? I sprained my ankle also amd 2wks later still painful
Had me at the intro.
Hi guys
After a fibula fracture operation, the top surface of the feet still feels less sensitive after 4 months
What is the reason? Can you suggest any exercises?
Hello, I just had plantar fasciitis surgery 2 1/2 weeks ago on July 6th. I am able to start wearing and walking has tolerated. How do you suggest I start slowly getting back to walking? Thank you in advance
It's been 3 months since I broken my ankle I done a trimalleolar fracture-dislocation I been going to physical therapy and I work with my ankle every day a few times a day but I still can't walk without assistance nor can I put full weight on it.
Have you guys reviewed the mobo board yet
THANK YOU for your time & this information! Are you saying that the ROM movements can be done with the fractured fibula??
Nicole Niessen Wyatt

I got ankle sprain before one and half month. now a days I started exercise as u show bt my ankle get swelled. i do icing 2/3 time's in a day. There is no pain at all .MRI is also done..Dr said it's sprin only and it will take 2 months to complete recovery . Bt I can't walk properly.swelling does not go down..what to do pls suggest.
I broke my fibula about 5 days ago, however the Dr only put me on a boot and crutches for about 6-8 weeks he said i did not need surgery.. does anybody know why i was not at least put on a cast ? I mean i dont understand how a bone can heal with just being on a boot 😰 im so confused ive never broken or fractured a bone before so i have no idea what to expect pls help !!
Nice video
Same with me. How did you get on with it later?
You guys are HILARIOUS
Thank you guys again!!! Awesomeness I broke my heel had surgery and screw 😢. 😊but I am getting better. I am a 69 senior citizen. Wish you both health & salvation.
