Denzel Washington as Frank Lucas is some of the best acting I have ever seen. Truly an amazing movie.
@@patrickbryce4109 Not at all. That was a sugar dispenser. He used it to ask Idris Elba's character to put the money he owed him in it. When he said he didn't have it, you see what happens next. In a deeper filmmaking analysis, it also means to say that Frank Lucas aint sweet.
Denzel going head-to-head with Russell Crowe was a clinic on acting, that scene in the Interrogation room was brilliant!
RIP the real frank lucas, died a week ago
Johnny deep as whitey bulger in dark matter.could easily be on the list.
dmanrox2 ? You serious? Fuck that guy
Fun fact: Bumpy Johnson played by Lawrence Fishburne in “Hoodlum”, is the mentor and boss of Frank Lucas, played by Denzel Washington in “American Gangster”!
Funner Fact: Clarence Williams III was in both movies. Dutch Shultz henchman in Hoodlum and Bumpy Johnson in A.G
Whoa, I have to watch Hoodlum now.
Fun fact many people including bumpys wife said frank was a liar and wasnt bumpys driver
@@j.d.8321 people saying things doesn't make it fact. Including the wife and Frank Lucas
If you couldnt figure that out you didnt watch American gangster and deprived yourself of a grand movie
De niro and pesci is the best undisputed gangsta duo in every movie they've ever played
So true, dont 4get the gr8 Al pacino
@Dan Christie well he does better acting than living a real life, depends on what you call a punk, pretty sure he's doing better than you
And they just met again in the irishmen
True!
No Doubt
Goodfellas was an amazing movie. R.I.P Ray Liotta who played his part well.
Ray Liotta WAS ROBBED OF A OSCAR... HE WAS BRILLIANT.
He peeked at that role tbh
Ray liottas a shit actor who only did well because of Scorsese’s direction
Ray Liotta gave his best performance in the 2002 film Narc. Watch it and you will see.
Ray liotta went to the same high school i went to..my father said he was a prick
He got outshined hard on Goodfellas. De Niro and Pesci carried that shit
I think Tom Hardys portrayal of the Kray twins was perfection.
One of the best gangster movies
Q
Cameron Savage I know right I think this one was just for singular gangsters not duos or groups
It was fucking terrible he put on a stupid voice for one of them and a moody face
@@Sebastian-Tickleberry You clearly haven't seen a video of the pair.
De Niro in Untouchables as Capone was terrifying, he played the role really well.
Pesci and DeNiro are absolutely amazing together in movies

Good choice.
Chazz palmenteri in “a Bronx tale” is some epic $h!t....

Bronx Tale is another classic. Liked the Cadillac of the boss.
How can you have this list and no Joe Pesci?!
No Bogart or Cagney either? Ha!
Joe pesci ? Wtf is he not doing on this list
Blasphemy!
@@charlesrast4235 real life depiction.......real life
Cause stupidity
Only watchmojo will show someone getting pistol whipped to shit and think oh no we can't have them swearing!
Joe Pesci was the perfect partner for Robert De Niro… One of the few actors that could make Dinero look tall.
I’m actually pretty impressed with this list. So many to choose from it would be pretty hard. My list would differ some; but I totally get the logic behind the selections. Well done.
Denzel Washington as Frank Lucas was a breathtaking performance. He had you convinced he could come off the screen and take your life at any moment. All without breaking a sweat or ruffling his suit. A three piece suit of course.
Tyrone Newsom man I swear it 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 if he was coming after me I'll turn my self I'm 😂😂😂😂😂just no getting away
It was all going good until he made the mistake of involving family in his business. Number one mistake people make. Just give them money, but don't let family anywhere near your biddness. That's my motto.
Too bad movie is NOT true story of Frank Lucas's life. Hollywood just took parts of other drug kingpins lives, like Bumpy Johnson, Nicky Barnes, Chambers Brothers, Midget Molly, etc...and combined all their stories into Frank's story. Originally, movie and book were supposed to be about Nicky Barnes, but Barnes's family and Hollywood couldn't come to agreement with money and contracts. So, instead they took Nicky's drug dealing accomplishments and put them into Frank's story. Examples....In reality, Frank never really traveled to Vietnam or anywhere outside U.S to find drug suppliers. Also, he wasn't really that big of a drug dealer and wasn't powerful like movie made it seem.
Snitch!!!!
@@kimmie6924 um, it's called actual history.......Nicky Barnes was the bigger and more nasty kingpin back in the day. Frank Lucas, in reality, was only a bit player compared to Barnes.

I feel like this is a déjavu as in..seen this before
I'm confused. Isn't Joe Pesci's character in Goodfellas also a gangster? Why isn't he on the list?
Goodfellas deserved number one. Such an amazing classic. ♥️
Part 2!!!! This would be so good!
At 00:30 you censore a bad word then at 00:33 you show a guy get shot in the head. lol america
Well obviously! Bad words can lead to our beloved youth becoming corrupt and incapable of functioning as contributing members of society. Guys getting shot in the head is innocent, because...wait, where was I going with this?
lol america, indeed.
MrYaneia actually that guy that got shot in the head there's no blood he just fell and there's a noise
Yeah because the guy getting shot in the head is not real, it's fake, just like all the violence portrated in movies.
Phantom Elite not sure if you noticed or not but that other dead guy he fell on was covered in blood, two corpses one covered in blood or the word fuck, hmmmm which is worse for children🤔
Nothing to see here just another stupid European getting American mixed up with Canada.
Seriously!!! No Joe Pesci for his roles in Goodfellas or Casino (which were very spot on by all accounts). How could they have such stupid omissions?... Oh right its Watchmojo.
He was mentioned in the #3 spot as basically an honorable mention. If you don't like the videos, stop watching them.
Dwane Dabney
Honourable mention is a joke. Watch Casino, then watch the real life documentary on the events of Casino. If Pesci's portrayal doesn't belong on this list nothing does. And yes I have since stopped watching Watchmojo's clickbait garbage.
SkyOut only difference was physical stature
Pecsi was the perfect Tony "The Ant" Spilotro (Nicky Santoro).
Fuck dinero as Capone, Joe was a good Nikki.
Best Top 10 List you guys have ever compiled.
You forgot: The Kill the Irishman, Ray Stevenson Danny Greene
Was about to comment this!
Joe Pesci REALLY needed a special mention by himself in Casino; he was scary in that movie.
Also, Johnny Depp as Dillinger was amazing
Daniel Day Lewis in Gang of NewYork....just wow. I mean he's A+ in any movie he does. That guy transforms himself into something completely different. Insanely talented.
blinkatreyu Sexy bitch
blinkatreyu Hey SuperGirl... i can be your Superman.
blinkatreyu Stunning Super Girl !
y'all are creeps... but god damn she is sexy
Its actually bad form to not have Pesci on this list. As someone that's grown up around gangsters his looks seem realistic and when the atmosphere of the scene starts to change to suspenseful on a dime it's really powerful. And true to the reality of the tension you feel when a killer suddenly drops his smile.
The God Father:
Am I a joke to you?
In The god father aren't gangsters
A mob and a gand have vast differences in enterprizes, fuctionallity, chain of command, and how long they tend to last.
The Corleone crime family were fictional unfortunately, there were real depictions of the other real Dons in the movie but they didn’t have enough screen time in my opinion to be worthy of this list
The title says REAL life gangsters - The Godfather is absolutely amazing, but fictional ^^
Johnny Depp as Whitey Bulger and Tom Hardy as the Kray brothers deserves a mention.
plm2879 absolutely. Havent watched the video yet but also “nicky santoro” in casino deserves a spot. Loved tom hardy in legends. Depp made for a terrifying bulger
Depp was a horrible White. Maybe because I'm from Boston and still am, is why I have the opinion I do. He looked the part, but the movie was rushed to get out ASAP because real Whitey had just got caught.
Johnny Depp as Whitey Bulger
YES! YES! YES! Thank you! thought i loose faith in mankind :)
@@carpiedeim so are you talkin about the movie and script or depp's portrayal? i saw a making of or such and people said depp NAILED it, movement, mannerisms everything
@@TOKRocK84 I think Depp looked the part wonderfully, as far as playing Whitey, he could have done better. To me it was a recycled Boston George, but this time he was a rat sociopath. The blame isn't Depp's fault, in all honesty I don't think any other actor could have pulled of the performance that he did. W/ that being said, Im not saying that his performance was great, or something to be amazed by, I'm simply saying that because the Studio wanted to bang out the film as fast as possible, because of the capture of Whitey, they rushed the project and it showed, at least to me it did. Again Depp did a Good job, not a C.H. more, & that's better than anyone else I can think of, since they all butcher the dog shit out of the accent. Bottom line my friend, is if they had a director that had the interest, the money, the script, Johnny Depp again, but most importantly, The Time, then this film, could have, been a fuckn classic. Maybe I'm a cynical bastard because I'm born in the Bean & live in the Bean, so I expect more from Boston, plus the story wrote itself & that makes it hard to fuck up, but they only half fucked it up. Take care pal.
It's a crime that none of Joe Pesci's performances in Goodfellas or Casino are on this list. It's also a crime, though not as severe, that Jack Nicholson's performance as Frank Costello in the Departed isn't mentioned.
+miklas1911 The Frank Costello in The Departed is different than the real life Frank Costello. I mean, look at the cars in the movie, and then look at Costello's age.
+miklas1911 dude what? The Departed's Frank Costello has NOTHING to do w/ real life Frank Costello
Carlos Eduardo Miranda He is partially based on Whitey Bulger though. The whole Boston mob boss who is also an FBI informant bit
+miklas1911 Pesci in Goodfellas was probably the most frightening, badass gangster character of all time, but it was fictional. Still a great performance though.
+Richie A Pesci character was based on Thomas DeSimone though (check wikipedia): I think that should be enough to include Pesci on the list.
I love Artie Langes take on Henry hill. “Yooo don’t you know it’s illegal to park in front of a fire hydrant “
They earn my sub again and amazing video :]
Few actors, including De Niro (who's always intense), come across as menacing as Joe Pesci in both Goodfellas and Casino. My country's had to contend with real life killers, and Pesci's persona in those two roles embodies the worst in them : utter unpredictability. His short physique makes him even more eerie...
I would put Deniro at 1 for Goodfellas.
@@randycunningham7318Me too
No joe Pesci roles? That’s disrespect
Leo Bergner facts
joe pesci was born to play a gangster,he's seen it up close,he got robbed, but hell its part of hollywood and the pay off
He was certainly brilliant in his roles but he wasn't mentioned cause his characters weren't the main characters in the films I guess
A little bit.
Al Pacino as Tony Montana is "TRULY" One of the best portrayals of a Drug lord/gangster and I was surprised that Neither he nor the movie "Scarface" Were not given a spot in the Top Ten - Pacino, Deniro, and Washington are 3 Of The finest actors who ever LIVED ~
Montana wasn't based on a real life gangster. it was fiction and based on a old movie with the same title.
@@hollowclyde3433 so WHAT???! Pacino brought the character to LIFE, and made Tony M BELIEVABLE and worth paying $$$$ to go to a theater to watch! that was 1980 pardner, OK?! Pacino's portrayal was spot ON, FICTION OR NOT. That is WHY he is one of the finest Actors who ever LIVED. he brings LIFE and SUBSTANCE to the characters he portrays. NEXT???
@@davidmcpherson1347 I am a fan of scarface myself its just this video is titled "real life gangsters" so i can see why he isnt in here.
Still the movie is great.
@@hollowclyde3433 .... I agree, it was a great movie, and, in regards to Portrayals of real life gangsters (fictionalized or not) Pacino's portrayal of TM was as REAL as it gets ..... a few of the movie portrayals were fictionalized in the top 10 but after all, these are MOVIES, factual OR fictionalized. Pacino, Deniro, Washington, Fishburne, Pesci, Garcia, Brando, Caan, ect... take these portrayals and BECOME the characters. THEY set the standard NOW, as others have before them ~ Kudos
Tony Montana was one of the best and most iconic movie characters of all time but he is far from realistic to what an actual gangster is like
Tom Hardy - as Ronald "Ronnie" Kray and Reginald "Reggie" Kray in "Legend."
Bruh why did you use so many damn words? You could’ve just said “Tom Hardy - Legend” and we all would’ve known... 😂
Hello Max, long time no see ;)
@@kjb6637 Bruh why did you use so many words. You could've just said "Too much word. Hardy-Legend. Ugga Booga."
... Its called speaking proper English.
@@rowanmelton7643 you’re a bit slow aren’t you… using too many words in a sentence isn’t sPeAkInG pRoPeR eNgLisH (it would be writing btw smart-arse 👍), it’s called being garrulous and it’s widely regarded as a sign of poor language skills… try not to comment on things when you’re blatantly wrong, you just make yourself sound like a nob 🙌 (golden bit of advice for you)
Everyone was great in Goodfellas. Amazing movie!
fuck you pay me
Gangster cheese that quotes from casino not goodfellas
You mean, let me understand this … cuz I … maybe its me, maybe I’m a little fucked up maybe. I’m funny how? I mean funny, like I’m a clown? I amuse you? I make you laugh? I’m here to fuckin’ amuse you?
You say funny things, thats all
KINGCNT nope its from goodfellas trust me
The perfect bad Ass is Joe Pesci! In Good Fellas and Casino
+Andreas Sanchez Agreed. Goodfellas is a classic
He plays a psychopath to perfection, playing someone like that suits him very well
Amazing list!
Denzel sure makes Lucas look good ! On a TV bio , they had to put in captions when Lucas spoke since you could not decipher his words. .
Very proud of you for putting Ray Liotta at number 1 you did it right this time!
Denzel Washington as Frank Lucas was an amazing role
Maybe, but Denzel looked absolutely nothing like Frank Lucas, the real Frank Lucas looked like a heap of crap, literally.
All amazing performances!
When comes to this list of actors in portraying real life individuals... I am loving this list. Can you make another one if there isn’t any. Robert, Al, Daniel and all made great performances.
Your telling me Joe didn't get on this list for portraying both Tommy S and Nicky both goodfellas and casino. Not even a honorable mention. Trash
its because this list is made by a liberal
Michael Gwinn he didn't want to be
Why did Deniros Sam Rothstein get a mention? He was not a gangster he was a money maker for them..
Nicky was the gangster and didn't make this list?
@@denontaufa1568 he wasnt a made man but he was definitely considered a gangster. He was just brains not muscle.
It could be because the real life gangsters they played have different names to the on screen ones
I actually really liked Gangster Squad. It perfectly depicted 1940's LA, neon lights, palmtrees and all
Paramjit Atwal yeah but what movie isn't predictable nowadays? haha
How did y'all manage to leave Joe Pesci off of this list? He DEFINITELY should have gotten a nod for his role in Casino.
They literally played a clip of him from that movie at the beginning, pay attention.
He was the 1st clip
they usually try to stick to one spot on the list per installment in a franchise, and DeNiro already made the #3 spot on this list for his role in that film
This list needs updated ... 2 movies that tom hardy play in .. He plays real life twins in the movie "Legend" ... Playing both twin brothers is some of the greatest acting ever ...and the movie "lawless" shit tom hardy is way underrated ...
Ray Liotta is one of the biggest snubs for Best Actor in Oscars history. He was just brilliant in that role.
Scorsese was majorly snubbed for director too.
TheSlagathorr I'm not a fan of Scorsese but calling him a snub is just stupid, even if u dislike him like i do you should agree and accept that Martin made some movies that probably 90% of earth population seen at least one of his movies, what have you done on this earth that allows you to say something like that?when you will make a movies that makes hundreds of dollars box office then you call him a "Snub" .Just respect the guy for what he left in this cinema world.
razexxx20 I don't think you know what snub means...
Noooo. He said he got snubbed for an Oscar….meaning he was deserving of one but was denied of it.
you got denzel, al pacino and de niro!!! the best of the best
@bee boo I don't know - they were both great in those parts.
Denzel, You don't mess with a West Indian my momma is from 🇬🇩
Walken in King of New York
I appreciate that you mentioned Pesci a few times but why isn't one of his performances on this list? His roles in Goodfella's and Casino were classic.
They were all great!!
Tom Hardy as The Kray Twins.
and
Johnny Depp as James "Whitey" Bulger.
Wasn't that the two guys from Depeche Mode?
Those 2 movies. Came out in 2015
@@marccolten9801 tom hardy did legends, martin and gary kemp of depache mode , played the krays in the fim called the krays, i think they were both very good,
Depp as John Dillinger
@@marccolten9801 Not Depeche Mode - Spandau Ballet; the Kemp brothers. That was the earlier movie done decades before. It was more stylish yet they were at least as creepy if not more so than Hardy, but the Hardy movie went into the background of explaining why the twins might have behaved like they did.
It's amazing how many people missed the 'Real Life' aspect of this list. SMH.
Exactly!
+Stacy James My favorite real life gangster is an actual real life actor.
Who's that? Frank R
the very true story was "paid in full" but they changed the names of the characters.
the guy who that movie was based upon said he disagreed with it. scorsese movies like goodfellas do much better job portraying reality of the situation, but they are always films that take dramatic license.....that is the entire point of making an entertaining movie out of it
What about Eric bana in “chopper”? Absolutely amazing acting in that film still to this day.
"Here comes Santy Claus!" Lmao
Sounds like a Pesci line
Joe Pesci in Casino as Little Nicky 100% # one gangster in a movie
I'm happy that Tom Hardy got at least an honorable mention as Forrest Bondurant but I was expecting Johnny Depp as John Dillinger in this list too...
John Dillinger wasn't strictly a gangster. He robbed banks but he was never working for or a head of a crime syndicate.
"Don't ask for something thats a burden for you if you get it"
Thats some strong advice.
2:48 just beautiful music to the ears
Tom Hardy in Legend as the Kray twins
Where's Lil Z of City of God?
Yeah thats a great character and a real one but knockout ned was better
Katipunero PH Yeah, good one..
He's on the drug dealers list
GREAT list!!! Southie (Donnie Wahlbergh)
New Jack City (Wesley Snipes) Good Will Hunting (Matt Damon, Ben Affleck) Catch ME iF You Can (Leo DiCap)
Add one more: Robert De Niro as Frank Sheeran.
I was surprised that Jonny Depp's portrayal of John Dillinger wasn't on this list
Dillinger was a bank robber. We're talking mafia here. But haven't seen that one with Depp. Good?
+jinhyun1 It was pretty good...John Dillinger was number 1 on America's most wanted list so he should have been on
They said at the beginning only people with gangs. not solo or 2.
+jinhyun1 yes, its better than his portrayel of Whitey bulger. But when it comes to the TOP crime movies (believe me i've seen all of them) are: (imo)
Goodfellas, Casino, godfather 1 and 2 (3 isnt that good) Blood in blood out (one of the best and underrated) Donnie Brasco, The Departed, etc (there are a lot of crime movies, but very few are way up there like the ones mentioned above, and there are more good ones)
I love all these movies you mention. I also love Blood in Blood Out but doubt it will ever be considered seriously as a great crime drama, because it is somewhat stylized (probably unintentionally). American Me would probably get nods over it.
Johnny Depp as John Dillinger! Badass!
I agree, he should be honorable mention at least.
I MUST WATCH ALL OF THESE ASAP!!!
This is a good list. That being said, and I know there can only be ten in accordance with the list, many better portrayals were wildly overlooked.
I love all mob movies, Goodfellas is my favorite, but my pick for a smart leader was 'Sonny LoSpecchio' from the mob movie 'A Bronx Tale'. That movie has to be my second favorite mob movie.
Johnny Depp as Whitey Bulgur was cold blooded! Should definitely be on this list.
Movie hadn't come out yet when the video was made. Probably would've been if they waited a year to make the video.
oh yes! movie was rather meh though
@@devingilliam5601 ok thats an excuse i can accept :-)
@@TOKRocK84 Good because that's the only one I got.
Yeah he was great shame the movie was rubbish
Excellent choice for number 1
How y'all saying somebody accurately portrayed people you never met lmao
Thought Johnny Depp would get a mention for Black Mass..
+Ryan Dervan this was from 2014 though, Black Mass was released in 2015
+Sunny Black Just after seeing that there. My bad
Ryan Dervan. Good movie!!
You couldn't go wrong with this list. But Pesci (Goodfellas), Hardy (Lawless & Legend), Depp (Black Mass) could have also made the Top 10 list.
Public enemy Johnny Depp too
I’d just like to thank UA-cam for all the wonderful adverts neatly interspersed with film clips.
Amazing
#1 should be the whole Goodfellas cast! Such a masterpiece!
Masterpiece don't even describe it
"As far back as I can remember, I always watched Scorsese films."
Al Pacino as Lefty is uncanny. He & Depp are brilliant.
Merry Christmas
great list
Depp in Public Enemies was phenomenal.
Robert De Niro is one of my all-time favorite actors for portraying gangsters.
That's part of the reason he's so, so good in a bronx tale, i think.
Oh, and! Ever see the video of casino dubbed over a sesame street burt and ernie clip? It's been around forever. I'll forget about it for a couple years, then remember; never not laughed at it. Hard.
Jack as HOFFA!! Wow!!! Brilliant!!!
"I came for a proper shootout, with proper men."
Like a western
Fucking watse of my time
"Looks like your brother has done a runner ..."
"Nah, he's just genuinely disappointed, that's all ..."
Armand Assante as Gotti?
Awesome movie! The John Travolta version sucked.
As far back as I can remember I always wanted to be a gangsta!
I was a Bodyguard for 25yrs.Robert DeNiro came to Tampa for Genral Tommy Frank's retirement party. He was the quietest most down to earth nice guy. I would never think he was able to flip a switch like he does in his movies!
You can't have a these kind of lists without Pesci.
Johnny Depp was great in Public Enemy, where he played my great uncle John Dillinger
Really?
Lol Really?
Nah, he was Johnny Depp on that.
Purvis, played by Bale, was good tho
Bullshit everyone is john dillingers nephew ive seen about 100 of these comments 😂 saying theyre related to him .....damn everyones related to him .......im his nephew too 😂
0:16 thats where you put a clip of him runnin into traps made by a kid😂
Nicholson's performance of The Departed's Frank Costello (based mostly on Whitey Bulger) was chilling. Better than the actual portrayal of Bulger by Depp in Black Mass.
Tony Spilotro, Casino 1995.
definitely #1
he appeared many time on this video, but not mentioned in top 100 list
No Tom Hardy for his portrayal of both twins in Legend?
No Joe Pesci for any of his amazing roles?
.....no to this list
I was thinking the same about Hardy in legend, but then I realized Legend came out in 2015 and this video came out in 2014.
Also at the start of the video they say gagsters who were in gangs, not individuals or pairs.
Joe Pesci's character was not a real person.
@@jgfunk in goodfellas it was, different name but very close to the orginal. Real guy was even more brutal.
jgfunk still he got a Oscar
Y'all forgot 4 Classics WESLEY SNIPES as Nino Brown "See ya and I wouldn't wanna be you," in New Jack City, Christopher Walkens in the King of New York, "If a nickel bag get sold in the park I want in", Camron as Rico in Paid in Full, "what good is a soldier if you don't use them", Mean Danny Green, "If the Mob want me they know where I'm at". The Irishman.
Keep it up more videos
I'm surprised that Leandro Firmino da Hora who plays Li'l Zé in City of God wasn't on this list.
👍
Lil zee was crazy af..shoots kids and all..
Hoodlum is a unsung classic
Hoodlums was an amazing movie
its still one of my favorites on the list
*Jeff Futrell* was a unsung classic but did you know they portray Bumpy Johnson as a notorious ruthless leader but that's not what he was in real life he didn't barely kill or stab or people feared him he worked for St Croix as a guard he used his fist like he would beat ppl up like a boxer but not with a weapon.
Great pick at #1. Ray Liotta top dog
Kudos for the shoutout to Billy Drago in "The Untouchables". No disrespect towards De Niro, but he COMPLETELY OWNS that scary hitman/henchman role.
