It does have the iconic red box of doom on it. The ignition timing curve is really advanced so they will kick back hard put me in the hospital once with a boot on. Also remove the stator cover and look and see if the mechanical timing has been advanced.
If you mess with the jets and put stock jetting in it...it will blow up. The guys who owned this knew more than you do. it sounds sharp and crisp. This is how they are supposed to run. Your other machines ran bad, this one is perfect !
He is not as knowledgeable as you think 2vintage. That bolt on the cylinder is a coolant vent when trying to bleed the cooling system of air. Just one of the incorrect things lol
Toxcity anyone that knows anything knows that a decompression mechanism wouldn’t be on the cylinder, if anything it would be on the head, either way they werent an option on the 250r

@@motofarmmx2430 look at almost every 4 stroke any bike that is air cooled will have it in the side 99 percent of times and alot of liquid cooled 2 strokes have then there 2 not usualy liquid cooled ones tho

That leak by the exhaust would be exhaust O rings, cheap and easy. If youre worried about a lean/ rich condition check the plug. Black= rich, white= lean. If you’re worried about stator voltage, pull the plug, put a volt meter on the wires coming from the stator cover and see what the voltage. I would assume its an aftermarket stator and probably has an aftermarket timing plate to advance the timing along with the aftermarket CDI which is also more than likely advancing timing as well. Which will increase the amount of time the fuel has to burn. Longer burning cycle= less unburnt fuel= more power. Theres a ton of knowledge online but if you have a question let me know

@2vintage I would check the counter balance as the bearings are known to go out an effect how hard the kicking over the bike is. They do go out without any noticeable noise. One sign they are getting bad is the kicking over seem hard like it has mad compression, This is the part number for a reference you can look up. 13350-HB9-770. It doesn't cost much to check it just a couple gaskets. It is like pulling the clutch an stater covers
I am not sure sure your friend knows all that much about 250rs. I can count on two hands of all the stuff he was mistaking on. Although you did get a great quad, I would take that guys advise with a grain of salt. I’ve owned several Rs and have a hybrid yfz with a R engine now. If you have any questions about it I would help you if you like.
And plz bud don't sell it i sold mine it had a 310 bore and I miss it so much and these will always go up in value and u have to take this to the track youll get so many subs if u do because we all love seeing these 250r at the track he'll I used to have a lt250r fully race Ready and I miss that too now I'm stuck with a 400ex with a 440 bigbore race read quad
You know something I think that button is to take the Front plastic off when you unhook the back plastic in the front plastic you can take that and turn it sideways around over the handlebars try giving that a shot man

That thing is sweet my best friend had bought a CR500 in high school and man I remember trying to kick start that thing the compression on it was crazy and he had the engine completely re built so it was insane it was a fast bike for sure it was tough keeping the front end down I love the two strokes especially the CR500 but my first bike was the 4 stroke XR450 I loved that bike to I really like your channel to bad your probably to far up north I wouldn’t mind seeing what you had for sale especially if you had either 500 or an XR
You have a great quad there that doesn't need any work. Why not fully rebuild the CR80 including the engine, use that to learn engine building on. It must have been cheap so it doesn't matter if you balls up along the way. The guys in the comments section will help out if you hit trouble. Don't expect the jibes to disappear altogether though as the comments section on your videos is as entertaining as the videos themselves. And anyway UA-cam are paying you for every view you get. A proper build would get you more views guaranteed.

This quad has a stock looking cylinder on a 1985 honda 250r atc bottom end because its black 1985 atc bottom ends have a short connecting rod for high revs. I have a 1986 1987 and 1988 trx250r my 1986 and 1988 are beasts just like this one and also real hard to kick over, my 1987 trx 250r is stock. He needed to put on a lectron 38-40 mm and then see how fast it is. It looks like his has a stock kehin 34mm 1986-88 flat slide carb
the bike is 2 inches wider then stock and the swing arm is factory . the black button is not factory no clue to what its for until you follow the wires and figure it out hands on

Interesting conversation. Lean on low end, check for timing plate over 4 degrees, repack silencer and cut the grip wires off.

Oh my. At 7 minutes in the video that bolt is not a decompression valve. It’s the coolant drain bolt for the cylinder.

That’s an aftermarket CDI, they’re bad about producing kickback. Invest in a HA2 or HB9 oem cdi. Also, repack your silencer lol
