His beard is the only thing stopping the world ending
Cameron Steven you're damn right about that
My dad wanted a beard like his
*holding a pair of scissors* I just want to talk...
IKR everybody needs a pair of anal beads.
COVID is Temporary, Shavo's Beard, Wu-Tang and Wakanda are forever!
It still blows my mind Toxicity was 19 years ago. It makes me feel so old and I'm not even all that old lmao
@Dalle Smalhals nanhh im only 3 years older than Toxicity lol
Dalle Smalhals toxicity is older than me lol
toxicity older than me. but dont get me wrong, i grew with system of a down, avenged sevenfold, slipknot and rammnestein. my brother was the main cause for letting me grow up with amazing music.
Jaco Brosius dude me too
When the classic rock station, that played my dad’s music when I was a teen, started playing my bands, I didn’t like it. It shouldn’t be long before they start playing SOD.
Shavo is such a cool dude.
Your name though 😂
Yeah, you wouldn't expect that. But he is indeed.
Except for that part where he put Brent Hinds in a coma.
@@Treyorrrr came here to say that
No way there's a Hannoveraner in the comments
Hearing Shavo say bro as often as he does makes me feel safe
To be in System of a Down, your last name needs to end in "ian".
Well that’s how all the last names in armenia end and they’re all armenians
John Dolmayan??
Aidan Maggio it’s more about the sound “ ian” than the way it’s written

Gojira's bassist is perfect too
I have never seen him speak lol
Under which rock have you been living?
Same here. I’m just a casual SOAD listener so I haven’t been down their interview rabbit hole.
@@thrashtildeth247 well then you wont usually hear any band members speak unless it's the singer.
Dev n yep
There's plenty of Soad interviews where he speaks all the time.
Aahhhh. Please do with Daron Malakian too.
"Superman told me...........fellatio...."
Shit.....beat me to it!
Fallatio
They need to adjust their vibe
Daron would be awesome, I wonder how often he’d say “fellatio” in that interview
For years people have been heavily requesting a System of a Down fact or fiction. I hope they’re more than satisfied👌🏻
I know I am!
I want another SOAD album so badly! They are my favorite band, and they got me into metal and hard rock. I treasure their music. I hope they’re all doing well
Me too!
We have a really good tribute here in Quebec, they're called Sweet Revenge, check them out !
Carlos Lopes I have. They are great. One of my teachers said the same thing to me, and I’m happy to have discovered them closely after discovering SOAD.
I agree but Daron's Scars on Broadway work is pretty damn good and is probably going to be the closest thing we ever get. If you liked hypnotize and mezmerize then definitely check out Scars on Broadway.
@@carloslopes5322 you should try out scars on broadway it's Darons band.
Met Shavo when they came to play in San Bernardino. He was so down to earth humble and genuine.
I'm thankful for this fact or fiction opportunity, and more thankful that SOAD exists.
System of a down is the best smooth jazz band

@@rubi588 you ARE aware that John and Serj are brothers in law, right? Their wives are sisters, so they are family. Serj even posted a statement on Instagram that was condemning all the people who were talking about how the two of them hate each other so much.
@@rubi588 They're still amazing friends and family by law. They don't let stuff like that get in the way, they aren't children.
@@rubi588 More like Serj and Daron
Mike Geniole 2nd Channel are they on bad terms? i didn’t know that
@@Ohokk0 Yeah, their current underlying conflict is a main reason why System isn't producing more music. To the best of my knowledge, it started back in 2004 or so when they were making Mesmerize/Hypnotize. Daron wanted to be more controlling in the music-making (you can notice he has a LOT more vocals in those 2 albums), while Serj wanted everyone to be involved. Serj himself stated that he wasn't as close to the music on their last 2 albums compared to the other ones. So, after Hypnotize, they went their separate ways, with Serj working independently and Daron joining Scars on Broadway.
There are also monetary issues, as the members are not getting equal shares of money for the work SOAD has produced, but that's a whole nother matter. Basically, the beef is between Serj and Daron at the moment, while Shavo and John are just kinda twiddling their thumbs on the sidelines waiting for them to get along. Obviously its more complicated than that, but that's just a quick synopsis. Do some additional research on your own to go in-depth.
i've never clicked so fast and aggressively
I miss SOAD. They helped make me who I am. I hope to see them get together again one day, but if not, I do appreciate those albums that shaped me. \m/
Shavo is my favorite bassist this is a blessing
This should have been an hour interview.. im sure Shavo has so many stories to tell that fans would love to hear!
FINALLY Someone from System. Only took 7 years. Also can Graham please get a real camera for this please?

It's been known for years.

I could totally hang with this guy. Been a huge fan of SOAD since they started getting big.
Man imagine being in Andy's shoes. Must suck Not being able to play for a band that would end up being worth MILLIONS of dollars (and literally one of the biggest bands of the 2000's) just because he got mad at something and punched a wall. He wasn't a bad drummer at all, pretty decent from what I've heard from the demos. Just sucks that it ended up that way for him. But I'm glad we got John, dude is a beast of a drummer
Andy wasn't really right for SOAD's sound anyway, imo. Too '80s-ish for a band in the later '90s. He was getting better, but John really brought them into the modern era.
to be fair, that first Apex Theory album was pretty dope.
in my opinion john was better for the band
Graham, it’s great to see how much better and confident you seem. Been watching for a couple of years and it’s cool to see your growth
Shavo seems like a cool dude.
Shavo is my first inspiration of being a bass player. I've been waiting for this for a long time!!!
A band I got into early in my life. Many great memories with albums like Toxicity and Steal This Album. Totally awesome that we finally got System Of A Down for fact or fiction.
Shavo looks exactly like my neighbor. Same beard and no hair. My neighbor even plays bass. It’s freaky af.

Super awesome interview.
I love shavo so much
Very cool dude, met him when Linkin Park opened for them way back. Need to check the new band out.
Shavo is so awesome
During Snocore, when SOAD was touring with Incubus, Shavo met us outside the tour bus and went back to my truck to smoke a bowl. Spent 45 minutes just telling me about life on the road and what it was like, just down to earth, great guy.
@D H it was the State theater in Detroit. Got there pretty early. Saw their bus, and decided to walk towards it. As we did, off walks Daron and then Shavo. Daron had somewhere to be, but Shavo took a second to look around. My gf called his name, and he came over. We asked if we could smoke out, and he said we couldn't go on the bus cuz Serj was meditating and he had never played there before so didn't know a good place to roast. So I offered my truck. We walked about a quarter mile to where it was parked, he climbed in the passenger side and we hung out. He complained that being a rock star meant he had no address at the time and that his mom had to collect his mail from a po box. Dude works hard for where he's at.
Next time in Matt stories, I partied with Pantera after repairing Morbid Angels drum kit.
His description of the riots from that free concert was on point. Seems like a chill dude
Oh wow what a great interview! So exciting to know there is more and BETTER live material from the Yerevan show! It's like SOAD does not realize how much we WANT that! They are still a band, but they barely tour, and NOBODY expected any new music from them after 15 years of nothing new.
SOAD could have been one of the biggest bands on the planet, but they are still on that 15 year pause, bickering about what to do next. A real break up would have fans less STARVING for more SOAD. But it is what it is, whatever it is...
I'm actually really happy because this is helping me find my family too

The whole story about the bell tolling 100 times then they walk on stage and the whole country is waiting for them to play is the type of goals I want as a musician. Amazing!
I don’t understand wrecking a bands gear
If you ever been to a concert and you feel the hype after listening to some great music? Imagine that hype but playing it for thousands of people it’s just pure adrenaline and joy that you kinda “accidentally” start going crazy and start smashing everything lol
@@eothekingkong9727 again, humans in there purist form are the worst thing known to mankind.
I never understood when people get mad about wrecking gear
@@eothekingkong9727 This circumstance wasn't after hearing some great music. The band's gear was destroyed by fans after SOAD was told they couldn't play due to the fan-security ratio.

Damn, this needed to be at least 30 minutes. I was so sad seeing that the video was almost over.
That was a great soundtrack check it out guys☮️☮️. Great interview
So happy he gives a definitive answer for the etymology of the song title Chop Suey. I have seen countless different takes and explanations for how they came up with the title.
Shavo is bad ass and so down to earth. I wish they would put things behind and rock the fuck out

"Chop Suey is literally SUIcide CHOPPED in half." How on earth did I not figure that one out until now? 😂 Great fact!
