As a matrer of fact, beyond the tribute, the Queen team asked George to sing with them and replace Freddy in the band. After George first live performance, they all agreed that Freddy was irreplacable, despite George undeniable talent.

No one can compare to you Freddie ❤ You are missed every day and I'm so grateful, that we have UA-cam and can watch this amazing videos. And everyone is unique. There was only one Freddie. Myself I don't like when someone compare me to someone, because I'm unique as well as everyone else in the world.
You just cant compare the two. They were both great performers in their own right! Freddie was the greatest!! George Michael was fantastic as well. Loved them both! ❤ The photo at the end with the two of them together brought tears to my eyes. Hope you are both resting in peace and still making music.
I agree. You can't compare Freddie with anyone. He had a 4 octave range that many singers can't reach. Although MJ (4), Prince (4), Whitney (5), and Mariah (5) had ranges from 4-5 octaves (respectively). George Michael had a 3 octave range.
Both awesome singers and performers but George was singing this way better than Freddy did. Als keep in mind that Freddy has done that song hundreds of times with the band. George only rehearsed it for 5 days before having to perform this. Don't care what anyone says, Freddy was amazing but George was in a league of his own. His version is better than the original one and I'm sure Freddy would have agreed on that.
@@truijs65 George in a video admitted that in some parts he was "Winging it?". Don't know what he meant because it sounded perfect to me! The video is available on line, check it out.
I would like to comment on this comparison. First both had amazing clarity and crowd participation. Both have amazing, powerhouse voices!! The original, I believe was a great performance and showcase of Freddie's talent. Who can sing like that? Then there's Michael, a true artist of great caliber. His ending surely matched his predecessor with grace. Both are legends in their own right. AND both are terribly missed.
I heard a joke once about someone comparing God to Freddie, someone said he did some good stuff but he ain't no Freddie, think that fits with this comparison!
George Michael did fantastically well and is the version if honest I listen to most. But it's Freddies song and there is nothing left to say about this legend... RIP 🙏
Why compare? George's performance was a tribute, not an impersonation. You may as well compare a Ferrari with a Rolls Royce - they are both great for different reasons.

I’ve cried tears for both of these super talented singers. It is so sad that we lost them way too soon. However, we must be thankful that we had the opportunity to share in their exceptional musical talent. Thank you Freddie and George.
At a time of great hurt, I think George gave the performance of a lifetime. His vocal is almost perfect with fantastic energy and feeling. Probably George at his peak (also it has to be said - a wonderful human being.) Freddie however, achieved this every single time. Two outstanding performers. Todays ’superstars’ (2022) simply can’t touch this.
There's no way that you can argue the talent of freddy. No way to compare anybody with him. But I have to recognize that George put his heart, soul, body and voice to pay him the right tribute. No waste at all
Why do we need to compare the two? As a die-hard Queen fan I prefer Freddie but I'm not going to diss George - it's a different version and that's absolutely fine. To anyone who dislikes either singer here's an idea - don't listen.
Comparing the two doesn't mean having to pick who was better. It's looking and listening to each singer's different style and way of expressing the same song and checking for similarities. Freddie sang it raw with power and emotion, improvising even. George sang it more subtle, taking more time with each line, paying tribute to the song by being faithful to the original but still putting his own spin on it.
To hear both versions make me cry ... two exceptional voices. Nobody can rehearse better than Geogre this song. Was the best tribute to Freddie ... In the end of the song George sang as the original version of Somebody to love, all up voice, really I don't know how to say it properly, his voice goes up as in the original version. Sorry about my english, I have studied long time ago and forget about to express ... From Argentina! My regards for all of you
I agree with you, I have commented the same everytime I could. In the final of the son George rehearses the original version of Freddie, that´s was great because during the last years Freddie could not do rise his voice. George Michael's version was exceptional. I love it, since today I go on hearing his version. Jajaja, I am from Argentina, also studied english long time ago, so maybe my english is not so good, but I thing it was understandable what I've commented .....
I am Japanese. At the age of 12, I asked my family to go to London for Wham's dissolution concert. 36 years ago. I've been a fan of him for 40 years and I don't think there are any vocalists or artists who can surpass him yet. It's a pity that I'm not in the world, but I'm still a fan.
in my opinion, it's quite impossible to make a comparison between these two amazing performances. Freddy was singing a 2hrs+ concert and had to save his voice for the latter songs, George had just a few minutes on the stage and could deliver 100% of his power in the song. By the way, George's song is my favourite in Freddie's tribute.
@Black Dog I'm not musically educated but to me George's performance is just so much better. To me he sounds like he has a full technical control of the song while at the same time pouring his emotions into it, meticulously interacting with and singing off the band and the choir and holding the whole audience on the palm of his hand. He is at he same time the central piece and just an equal part. Freddie has a tremendous voice but this performance sounds a bit rushed and forced compared to George's.
@@erikleite839 not to mention that Freddie sing it Rocking it, he had a rock voice he changes a lot up and down fast and slow and super fast .. you can't hear that in GM version. in GM version is a regular way of singing a song
AND ABOVE ALL HE PAID TRIBUTE TO A GREAT FRIEND !....I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO HAVE FRENDS LIKE THESE 2( GAYS OR NOT)....♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🙏🙏🙏👑👑😭😭😭😭😭🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴🏴
George Michael was probably the only singer who was worthy to sing a Queen song. Many musicians admitted that it was almost impossible to "imitate" Freddie's voice. But George was also an outstanding singer and performer, he deserves all credit.
I'm 61 and I absolutely adored Freddy and George. They were BOTH phenomenal, accomplished singers who were hard to compare. George did a remarkable rendition of this song and Freddy would agree However, this belonged to Freddy and HE just had that "extra something." He was always possessed true showmanship, with a magical range of voice, and he was exciting. When you think of all the talented musicians in Queen, Freddy's face comes to mind instantly. I know I miss both of these singers. The world lost two great ones🙏❤🙏
Sorry there is 1 other and that is Adam Lambert. So much so that he toured with Queen for years and I did not get to see it 😢😢😢😢! Adam was a perfect person to do only what Freddy and George did!
@@GreenDragon11 True, Adam is also an extremely talented singer without a doubt. But could Queen have been so successful if he had been the lead singer in the band, instead of Freddie ? I don't think so. Freddie Mercury had that extra plus, in terms of showmanship, charisma, electrizing the fans, and he had that unique, incomparable voice, noone else owned. There was only one Freddie Mercury, he's irreplaceable.
Freddy is Freddy and of course he gets top vote. BUT George Michael sang it with more than heart and made Freddy darn proud for sure. Brian's smile says it all: George nailed it. No one else could stand next to Freddy but George in my opinion. Can you imagine them singing together? Epic!
I can't think of anyone other than George Michael who could've sung this song better other than Freddie himself. What a loss to this world those 2 were. But they must be bringing the roof down in heaven! 💕
Probably unfair to compare one singing his own composition & the other doing a cover version to honor him. But George was fantastic. Both sorely missed.
True, but this is George MIchael at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert I believe. Two of my all time favorite singers, and I'm sure that Freddie would have appreciated George's performance and felt honored. It's nice to see new generations appreciating both of them, they are standing the test of time, I just wish that they both had had more.

I read George went into the studio every day to practice he said it needed to be perfect, his partner at the time was in Brazil he preferred to get his treatment there, he'd just discovered he'd AIDs George himself wrote it was the hardest thing he ever had to do, but he was just amazing, two different artists who where totally different, both beautiful people who left us too young..both had amazing voices 💙💙
George said in an interview that doing this song for Freddie's tribute , he was very emotional not only because of Freddie's death but that his boyfriend, Anselmo would meet a similar fate .He also had Aids . Anselmo died 2 years after Freddie , but at that time they didn't know how long he had either.
I heard the same interview. When we see people on stage singing we always think their life is perfect and everything is great. But now we realize they have the same problems just like us. God bless George Michaels in Freddie Mercury I miss them both. I hope you have a great live
A great example of how a great artist can make another artist's iconic song his or her own. I never tire of hearing either version -- and the audience adds a special tribute.

George made Freddie proud!! No comparison, but George a great singer😅. Both are soo missed. Freddie will always be the man to me! God bless you both. RIP💔🙏🏻 singing in Heaven must be fun! Til we meet again. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🥰🥰
Both versions were awesome. I think George stayed true to the studio version at the end. So sad that they are no longer with us
George's rendition of this song absolutely takes my breath away. Both did this song justice.
all I can say is that George made the band smile and they knew Freddy was still alive somewhere in someone's soul....they stil are here ..in our souls ..as are Bowie and Prince and and all the rest off them...we live their dreams ..because we live through their music ..the show must go on...

Two of our best! Freddie would have loved George's tribute. I don't think Freddie and George were ever in competition with each other, both were pure magic in the music world!
Sono pazza di lui a 78 anni 💞💞
👏👏
Freddie ♥️
Legends in their own right ...listen to Adam Lambert sing this also..he is amazing but look at who he had to look up to

I love this. Freddie is just a raw talent and George is more polished. Both have absolutely brilliant voices. I miss you both xx
It is not a competition. George just paid tribute to Freddie he valued. He sang with his heart. They are two great artists, two great singers, two great voices, two great men.
I love them both.
Thank you for knowing the reality of 2 great singers, Grace knows.
Indeed I feel the same
Well said
grace, u r so right! i agree
As a matrer of fact, beyond the tribute, the Queen team asked George to sing with them and replace Freddy in the band.
After George first live performance, they all agreed that Freddy was irreplacable, despite George undeniable talent.
Zwei großartige Sänger, viel zu früh gegangen 😢❤❤😢
Danke für dieses wunderbare Video 🙏🍀🌞
I still get goosebumps & cry watching George singing this. He does an absolute Fantastic tribute & I will probably get lynched for saying it but I do love his version more ❤️ R.I.P Guys hope your having fun up there cos it's crap down here without you 💔💔💔😢😢😢
Yes I agree with you, but freddy was the king of England, cheers 🥂.
Me too friend. I've watched this more than once. I'm in love ❤❤❤❤
I hope you/we 12:58 don't get lynched. Agreed. Love your opinion

Personally, I am grateful for both videos. I really like both of their music, but George is my favorite too. I am grateful for your fantastic work and for this wonderful video. Thank you very much! It will last forever!
No one can compare to you Freddie ❤
You are missed every day and I'm so grateful, that we have UA-cam and can watch this amazing videos.
And everyone is unique.
There was only one Freddie.
Myself I don't like when someone compare me to someone, because I'm unique as well as everyone else in the world.
Dos genios!❤❤
Both great in their own style . I love them both . RIP …thank you for your music❤❤❤
You just cant compare the two. They were both great performers in their own right! Freddie was the greatest!! George Michael was fantastic as well. Loved them both! ❤ The photo at the end with the two of them together brought tears to my eyes. Hope you are both resting in peace and still making music.
Just that love them both
I agree. You can't compare Freddie with anyone. He had a 4 octave range that many singers can't reach. Although MJ (4), Prince (4), Whitney (5), and Mariah (5) had ranges from 4-5 octaves (respectively). George Michael had a 3 octave range.
George è meraviglioso
Two truly incomparable legends
Agree. Totally!!!
Agree a 101% nobody can replace them.
touche
I heard a joke once about someone comparing God to Freddie, someone said he did some good stuff but he ain't no Freddie, think that fits with this comparison!
Freddy Mercury ist einfach einmalig gut. Seine Stimme, Ausstrahlung in der Musik von Queen. Einfach spitze und genial

Never again. That era of music cannot be topped!

George Michael was and still is amazing and so darling to me! God rest in peace, George Michael
George Michael is absolutely one of few best male vocals in my generation.❤️

I caught that as well
It wasn't an easy performance for George. He had just found out that Anselmo had AIDS and was sworn to secrecy. Anselmo was in the crowd as well.
Úžasné video, sestřih, energie, nádhera, láska, jedno... :-), ale Mercury je Mercury :-) ♥
Probably George at his peak (also it has to be said - a wonderful human being.)
Freddie however, achieved this every single time.
Jacque Jasper George done Freddie proud, and all Queen fans,,,,two lost souls 🧚♂️🧚♂️🎸🎶🎶🎶🐝🐝😇😇
@@Harry-jz1dn I agree with you. Freddie & George are 2 of my most favorite male singers all the time.
How are they to be introduced to new music?
I agree! I love both and they are both uniq and the best ever will never compare those two
To hear both versions make me cry ... two exceptional voices.
You speak beautifully❗ Thanks.❤😂❤
I am Japanese. At the age of 12, I asked my family to go to London for Wham's dissolution concert. 36 years ago. I've been a fan of him for 40 years and I don't think there are any vocalists or artists who can surpass him yet. It's a pity that I'm not in the world, but I'm still a fan.
Yes they are both fantastic 😊🙄
Yes, George Michael is a best!!!! No 1
@@kristijanakristijanic I totally agree!
It is absolutely difficult to find someone to sing Somebody to Love. Both of you 2 were legend forever, but left us so early😢
ADAM LAMBERT!!!!!
Both great artists. I've seen George Michael live a few times, absolutely out of this world. He did Freddie proud this day
in my opinion, it's quite impossible to make a comparison between these two amazing performances. Freddy was singing a 2hrs+ concert and had to save his voice for the latter songs, George had just a few minutes on the stage and could deliver 100% of his power in the song. By the way, George's song is my favourite in Freddie's tribute.
Also George's was transposed down and he was younger than Freddie So it was much easier to sing the notes for George.
Freddie was just better by far, no comparison.
@@shapo001 He has control of the song because it’s made easier.
@@erikleite839 not to mention that Freddie sing it Rocking it, he had a rock voice he changes a lot up and down fast and slow and super fast .. you can't hear that in GM version. in GM version is a regular way of singing a song
George Micheal was so talented. He definitely paid tribute to the absolutely best rock vocalist off all times in my opinion.
Agree!!! Totalmente!!!
AND ABOVE ALL HE PAID TRIBUTE TO A GREAT FRIEND !....I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO HAVE FRENDS LIKE THESE 2( GAYS OR NOT)....♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🙏🙏🙏👑👑😭😭😭😭😭🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴🏴
Absolutely correct!
George, Freddie & Robert Plant..best vocalists of all time !
George Michael was probably the only singer who was worthy to sing a Queen song. Many musicians admitted that it was almost impossible to "imitate" Freddie's voice. But George was also an outstanding singer and performer, he deserves all credit.
George's performance was magnificent! Freddy is unique......but George did him justice! RIP to 2 amazing performers.
I'm 61 and I absolutely adored Freddy and George. They were BOTH phenomenal, accomplished singers who were hard to compare. George did a remarkable rendition of this song and Freddy would agree
However, this belonged to Freddy and HE just had that "extra something." He was always possessed true showmanship, with a magical range of voice, and he was exciting. When you think of all the talented musicians in Queen, Freddy's face comes to mind instantly.
I know I miss both of these singers. The world lost two great ones🙏❤🙏
Not at all
Sorry there is 1 other and that is Adam Lambert.
Amen. They have Jesus swirling around in circles.
Two of my favourite people, still sad they are no longer with us. This is not a competition but a tribute from one great man to another.
Probably unfair to compare one singing his own composition & the other doing a cover version to honor him. But George was fantastic. Both sorely missed.
They're differ though I like their perform....
I totally agree
True, but this is George MIchael at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert I believe. Two of my all time favorite singers, and I'm sure that Freddie would have appreciated George's performance and felt honored. It's nice to see new generations appreciating both of them, they are standing the test of time, I just wish that they both had had more.
I love them !! if we have to make a comparison:!!
it seems to me that freddy mercury will sing more loudly with a slightly........
broken voice
george mikeal will stay more on a clear voice!
for high notes! it seems to me that freddy remains more on his chest

Yes
You can;t really compare the two artists. They were both ultra talents with different ways of presenting a song.
I've said it before, you cant compare two legends. A rose can't be compared to another rose, they are both amazing on their own right.
George definitely channelled Freddie for this one. Couldn't of been a more perfect performer to give Freddie this tribute
Freddie Mercury...RIP. George Michael...RIP. George was the only man to sing Freddie's songs! Both guys are legends!
So sad that both these fabulously talented singers have died. George was a surprize. I miss them both.
George said in an interview that doing this song for Freddie's tribute ,
he was very emotional not only because of Freddie's death but that his
boyfriend, Anselmo would meet a similar fate .He also had Aids . Anselmo died 2 years
after Freddie , but at that time they didn't know how long he had
either.
