how do you get into the starting position?
with great difficulty lol I would just walk it forward, alternatively you can get a buddy to help you
christ, thank you - all i have in my home gym is a power cage with lat pull down, and low pulley. and a bench of course. boobam, now i can fully burn out my legs after my heavier lifts next week!

how do they compare to a leg extension machine
It's an alternative if you don't have access to a leg extension bench
leg extension machine would be better as it'll give you more stability and an ability to generate force production
Can this build quad muscles though?
@@av_cali4958 I actually prefer these to a standard leg extension machine and yeah... definitely can build some quad muscles
