In 1990? In 1989 us invades Panama, 90-91 Persian gulf war, 95-96 intervention in Bosnia, 2001-2021 invasion of afganistan, 2003-2011 invasion of Iraq
that’s just a few, didn’t bother to list the conflicts we are currently in rn. Compared to when this song was released were in relative peace, intervention, aid, supporting local resistance in quite a few different countries, not full blown wars & invasions. That’s just the US tho, Russia & Ukraine is a problem, not gonna cause a full blown war unless Putin just decides to go nuclear or foolishly try to invade somewhere else
Get mad if you want but Ukraine in the grand scale of things isn’t very important. They lose? Ok it’s Russia now, cease fire? They may lose some territory, beat the Russians & get their land back? Great. What matters is how their war ends & what Russia does next, Ukraine? Not so important, feel bad for their ppl tho

A massive song at the time - start of the 90s, Berlin Wall down, iron curtain crumbling, Gorbachev pursuing the policy of glasnost. There was a wind of change and people were genuinely hopeful that there would be an opening, people from East and West realising that there is more we have in common than we have that divides us. Sadly events took a different course over the next decades and here we are almost back where we started. Stand off across the continent of Europe.
But if you want more Scorpions, try Still Loving You.

Great reaction!! I see Scorpions...I click...and Like! This song still makes my eyes tear up. It was released at such a pivotal time - the Eastern Block was opening, Iron Curtain coming down, Berlin Wall dismantled...families that had been apart for decades reunited! There definitely was a wind of change occurring. Indeed, unfortunately today, 30 plus years on, it seems we're back to square one in some ways.

It seemed that we had evaded nuclear war. The 80s were such a scary time. You can hear it in the music. Check out any heavy metal band in the 80s we all had a Nuclear War song. We were facing extinction and we knew it! Now 30 years later and we're right back where we started! How can people allow this to happen again? His response: "We win; they lose.” Reagan was not content with detente, as his predecessors were. He, PM Thatcher, Solidarity, Lech Walesa, Pope Paul John Paul II, and others helped end the horror of communism in Eastern Europe and the USSR. I have been to the Berlin Wall, and it was remarkable. Cold Warrior and US Navy veteran here. Back then; when this video was produced, we all wanted nothing more than peace and understanding. After years of viewing Russians as cold and bloodthirsty killers incapable of compassion via popular media care of Rocky and Red Dawn, we craved the truth and reality. In the decades since, I have made a few Russian friends and have learned some of their language. Sadly, much of the stereotypes of the 80's were true.
I have learned that decades of oppression and psychological warfare has left most of Russian citizens as severely psychologically damaged and mentally incapable of compassion or morality. They are a beautiful and hardy people, but unfortunately, the psychological scars are too severe for the majority of them to live normal and productive lives. Lying and deception come as natural as breathing for former USSR citizens.
If you are approached by an agency claiming to represent beautiful Russian, Ukrainian, or Asian women willing to do anything for freedom, then run away and delete all attempts at communication.

I was a teenager when this song was released. People today can not understand how emotional and epic it was when the Berlin Wall came down. Russian, German, and all the people of the United States finally came together and found out that we all were not so different. People rejoiced around the world and decided not to listen to our the propaganda put forth by our governments. We the common people chose to listen to each other and come together as one people. At that time it was like a miracle for a Russian and a US citizen to be able to sit down together in a room or a pub and talk casually to one another. When I was a kid I thought that I would never in my life lay eyes on a Russian in real life, let alone be able to chat with one. Turns out I have hung out with and even partied with many people who were citizens of the former Soviet Union. Some of the best and down to earth people in the world.

Served during this time; there was an air of hope. We can get that hope back, today; we just need to reawaken to the fact that we have more in common than not.

A magical moment where we had hope. Today's world seems so far away. I worked in the ex USSR for a while during Perestroika and that hope was palpable around the time of the first Peoples Congress.

I watch many Russian reactors on UA-cam. Come to find out many of them live close to me. I love how the common people came together. In my wildest dreams growing up during the Cold era, could I have ever imagined that I would have Russian friends living down the street from me. Very friendly and loving people. Love the Russian accent.

At the time this was a positive song. In the late 80s and early 90s, the winds of change were the Berlin wall coming down, USSR dissolution, freedom spreading. Unfortunately 30 years later it feels like things are going in a bad direction around the world. You are the young people he was singing about. I hope for a better future for you.

When the Berlin Wall came down and then the Soviet Union ended two years later both this song and the Jesus Jones song Right Here Right Now were on the radio and both of them rang very true at the time. It was a wonderful moment in human history for anyone that lived with the Berlin Wall, the Soviet Union, and the Iron Curtain. To see it all finally end was incredible. And the look on your face when you started realizing what the song was about is why I watch reactors.
