    You're the official UA-cam ambassador for all of us everyday cycling enthusiast. It's so annoying to watch sponsored or paid endorsement videos or articles that say the same marketing BS about 10% stiffer and 15 watts faster at 48kmph. Thank you for the unboxing as well as showing the weight of the frame module. Outstanding work getting this content done quickly as I know it takes more time than we realize and I'm really looking forward to you future Soloist content. Keep it RSD !!!!!

    Hi, thanks for the unbiased video. I bought a Cervelo Caledonia-5 frameset earlier this year and built it with SRAM Red AXS eTap. The frame looks nearly identical to the Soloist but is more endurance based whereas the soloist has more of a racing geometry (lower stack and longer reach). I’ll be interested to see what you think of the ride of the Soloist. It probably has more responsive steering. I previously had an R5 and my guess is that handles much like this.

    • @chancebex5947
      @chancebex5947 Рік тому

      I also own a Caledonia-5 and I'm building a Soloist. I also owned a 22' R5 before it was destroyed in an accident. The R5 handled amazing so that why I'm building a Soloist with the Geo almost identical and my Caledonia will be for my Century rides and traveling in my bike bag.

      Hi Steve! Thanks for your time checking out the vid! While riding the Soloist around, I will be mainly comparing to my previous S3 and current fleet of bikes I ride each week Ostro VAM, Prince, Orca, and the Project China. Hopefully I can come away with something meaningful to share with you all.

    Finally! A regular rambling review. I’m getting mines built with Di2, and I test drove the Orbea orca from your review. Crazy thing was the Orbea rides better with the mech Ultegra than the etap rival. Weird. And it was heavier (20lbs) with rival. The cost was tempting at below $4k. But in the end I think the soloist will be the better long term bike. It rides simply amazing. I test drove it with a sram force. But I’m sure the grips on the Ultegra Di2 will be far more of a quality ride. Can’t wait to see your build up and review. Thanks again!

      My Orca actually weighed dead even at 20 out of the box. Once I ditched the crap stock wheels, cockpit changed along with the saddle, then it dropped to 17.5 which was a huge drop obviously. Out of 3 main steeds currently ridden, I dare say I like the Orca the most out of Ostro VAM and Prince. The Soloist... We shall see how she turns out. I liked how the price tag was not outrageous but the frame weighing in at 1050 gr by itself is a good indication that they positioned this more less '3' than '5' in their numbering scheme. Hope your search yields to an awesome bike to enjoy for years. And yes, I appreciate you toughing out my endless rambling which was even more atrocious today. Couldn't remember frame part names for the life of me...

    Amazing. Just watching this video you can see the finish quality and care difference between the Chinese frame and this despite them likely coming from somewhere similar. As you said the fake bike basically a blank canvas that needs a proper finish with facing, tidying up etc. ❤️👍

    • @DiabeticCycling
      @DiabeticCycling  Рік тому +1

      It definitely shows the ol' "you get what you pay for". While I am not going to say how a frameset can be justified for $6500 on some which you do pay for overhead, you definitely get more quality. This frameset sells for $2700 USD and I thought that wasn't too outlandish in today's overpriced market. I recall buying my brand new S3 back in 2004 for $3200 with Ultegra/Mavic. With inflation in mind, it appears to be priced reasonably if you ask me. Still expensive, yes. Not as insane as some, yes.

    I ordered a black frameset and set out to try to match the force axs complete bike price but with some upgrades (ceramic bb/carbon bars/elite drive 65d wheels). I still have a couple components to secure, but I managed a few SRAM Red parts in the mix and I'm on pace to be almost exact with the price.

    So, if you buy a frameset - where do you get an "st36" stem?
    No mention of it on cervelo's parts section website, no one carries it online as far as i can tell.
    So yeah... frame is basically useless without a stem, any info?

    • @yeungline
      @yeungline Рік тому

      You can use any 1 1/8 stem.
      What makes the st36 stem special is that it has a clip underneath the stem to hold your 2 brake hoses.

    • @DiabeticCycling
      @DiabeticCycling  Рік тому

      The steer tube is the typical size which you can put on your favorite stem. While I think Cervelo should have included the stem as that is one of its distinguishing feature, you do not need that exact stem. The dust caps they provide and come with, have notches at the front for the house cables to be neatly fished through. I myself will be using an integrated cockpit which would conceal cables all the to the dust cap and then enter the head tube completely out of sight. Nonetheless, it would have been cool for them to include the stem.

    • @BrianMcDonald
      @BrianMcDonald Рік тому

      It's kind of strange that they included garmin/gopro out front mounts but not a stem, and I've seen videos that say there is only official compatibility with the st36 stem yet there is no way to get one if you are a frameset builder (that I can see). Theoretically it has the same headset as the R5 so you'd think that if you got the R5 integrated stem it would work, but so far the official word I got is that they don't have an approved method for installing a fully cable integrated setup. I feel like they are just covering their bums especially with recent stem recall stuff, but I'm going with an FSA/Vision stem/bar combo for my build and I'll be experimenting with possible custom integration methods.

      @@DiabeticCycling sl8 maybe will come this year, maybe not. Nobody knows!!! Any prediction from UA-camrs it’s a speculation, Click bait. They assume it will come out. Literally nobody knows! Let me say it like this. I don’t think Specialized knows yet if they gonna launch it or not. I think they have a new bike but I would be surprised if they launch. This is what I hear, usually my hearing is very good. If they launch it will probably be because they need to push their brand during this recession, since sl7 has become like submariner for Rolex. Personally if I was running specialized I would wait for next year to launch sl8. There isn’t a disc brake bike that can rival sl7 yet. Dogma f comes close but it feels a little sluggish compare to sl7. I will end by saying I hope you get to try sl7 before you ever move to sl8.

      The weight is in-between the lightweight R5 and the Aero S5 so I feel like it's respectable. For someone who can't afford/doesn't have room for a full on aero bike and a superlight climbing bike, I've rationalized the soloist being in the middle as far as weight and aerodynamics as something that can be good all around. You could always enhance aero or weight/climbing with wheels, and you can always switch up the bar situation to improve drag while not having two bikes. The other sad thing is that the pricepoint is actually "cheap" compared to everything else in the market when most frames are $3300-5500
