Despite of its popularity its one of the most underrated movies in history... I mean it’s just amazing. Especially this scene. This scene has an amazing vibe and it makes me so emotional.
That is cause of the epic cast.. If you look the cast most of them was not really that known till after Almost Famous.. But the movie stands on it own..
Ekin KIYAK Well, that's the thing about AF : everything about it is great. There's not a single damn scene that isn't great, at least in the bootleg cut. I still remember the look we had with my friends during the end credits... ("dudes can you believe how good was this fucking movie ?!")
The way he looks at the camera after "You are home" and how she lays her head on his shoulder is so profound. It's always given me goosebumps. I've seen this over 100 times.
If we are lucky in life, we've all shared moments like this with friends singing songs, drinking, laughing and letting the day unknowingly turn to night that turns to day.
My high school english teacher played this clip as part of his farewell speech to my senior class. He compared college to the road trip. He said there would be times when we would want to come back home, but we'd have someone tell us "you are home" and everything would be alright.
Im a senior & in high school and I can see why your teacher would and did show this clip and say those words because I know right know im scared for the future but soo excited for what It'll bring!!! Love this«3

This scene depicts the 70s so perfectly. From the music, the lifestyle, the touring. It’s very seldom a scene can capture and describe an era in the space of a few mins. Well done all
Stuck eternally in the 1970s! Watching this movie is like watching my life as a teenager. Great music, great times. I was deeply in love, and 15. I married him one year later and we are almost 48 yrs of marriage and still deeply in love. Funny how the Spirit inside of us never ages, then we catch a glimpse in the mirror and stop cold in your tracks. What the hell happened? Who is this old woman?? Where did the time go?? In my mind and heart, we still look that good, but the outside means nothing next to sharing every minute of your life with your soul mate!! Thank you Jesus and Thank you, John.
I think thousands of people watching this feel the very same, and have that exact lived experience. It really was the best of times to be a teenager. The music just brings it all back.
Yeah ... Now WE are not even the parents - but the Grand Parents if not the Great Grand Parents ... I just wrote some big long thing on stuff I did when I was young. Yeah. One thing that's universal - is that the best time of your life - is when you're young. Glad things worked out for you. Some of us have not been so lucky but - hey - I'm still alive ... so - what the heck ... .
I just love how the band members were so mad with each other just a few minutes before this scene and then, all they need is music, the simple and beautiful music that reunites them and remembers them why they are here and what their dreams are. This movie means so much to me.
I think this is a great scene and very entertaining, but it just shows how superficial all of this actually is. A tour bus is not “home” for any of them, and singing a song together doesn’t actually resolve any of their underlying issues.
Not being "musical" I still have, twice, experienced the "power" of music as it lifted the performers into a different realm, one beyond the understanding of observers.
@@matthewbryan-taff1306I half agree with you and OP. To me this scene has always been about the power a good song can have on people. Like you said, this didn't actually resolve any of their actual problems with each other and they will continue being at each other's throats throughout the rest of the movie. For a few minutes though that suddenly doesn't matter and they all silently agree to put that stuff on pause to listen to a kick ass song.
Kate Hudson makes this whole movie, her performance makes everyone better and makes this film a classic. Her gleaming smile many times in this movie I think is just the best smile of all time and her sadness is heart wrenching.
It's excellent. I've never seen a movie that so nicely treads the line between an almost documentary realism and a rock-n-roll fantasy. It captures what the music FELT like to a teenager at the time -- like an adventure, like something heroic.
I know how good Kate Hudson was in this, but Billy Crudup and Jason Lee were the ones that really impressed me here. Seriously. If I ever forget how good they are, I just watch this movie. Ridiculously great.
Hoffman and McDormand were perfectly cast in my opinion. Lee was good, Noah Taylor was quite good, Kate was wonderful, but Crudup gives my favourite performance in the film.
One year ago, I watched this scene together with my mother on her death bed just four days before she passed away at just 59 years young. This was her favorite scene and one of her favorite movies. I chose to play Tiny Dancer at the funeral.
Might be one of the best songs ever written. A guy at my brother's wedding after party busted this out on the piano and everyone sang, just like this. Will never forget that.
One of the most incredible scenes in music-movie history. Despite everything that has happened to the band, in the end the magic of Tiny Dancer reminds them that their love of music is what brought them together and made them who they are. I love it.
I haven't seen any of these and I'm about to start watching them now. Can you please recommend some more? Also, a pretty amazing feel good movie is Little Miss Sunshine.
Little Miss Sunshine is great!! Watch Everybody Wants Some!! too. Its from the same director of Dazed and Confused, it is basically it spiritual brother.

It's a masterpiece for sure. I'm younger than you (born 1980), but this movie is timeless. I showed it to my parents after I first watched it over 20 years ago. They loved it. They loved how many memories it brought back. We watch it almost every time I go down to visit. I can never thank them enough for everything they did for me, but this film is something we connect through. Few films can do that.
As I grow older, I take Penny's 'you are home' in an even more meaningful way. To William, he's still that young teen wanting to get back home to his familiarity, and Penny says 'you are home' to reassure him that he is in his place of comfort - music, so he will always be 'home'. But I feel it's so relevant to life in general. We're always trying to return 'home', to a place of comfort and stability and reassurance, like scared little kids. But we are always 'home', with our feet on the ground, air in our lungs and the strength to power through. Ok, perhaps with no promise of another day on this earth, but we always have the moment, and if we keep living in that moment, we will grow and learn and never have to feel we aren't home.
I remember on my senior class trip in 2003 we went to inner harbor Baltimore, It was about 3 hours away. On the way home the song ‘I hope you dance’ by Leanna Womack came on and the entire bus started singing, even macho football players and it felt like this exact moment. I knew I would remember that moment and feeing always and still do 20 years later.
I'm a drummer in a Elton Tribute Band. Playing his catalog for years I find my self getting board every now and then but when we play "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" and "Tiny Dancer" you can just feel the vibe of the theater/Venue get so nostalgic and you see little kids and their Grandparents mouthing the words. Then I realize why we do it and are privaliged to "Tribute" such a Iconic Artist...
Possibly my favorite movie scene because it takes me back to the early 70's. We had our group, we were tight, like family!! 40 years later it only exists in my memories!!!
This is such an underrated scene... everything about it is perfect. The way they join in all together even though their mad, the way Kate Hudson starts to song kills me because of how powerful and confident she is, the way Russell sits their pissed and disappointed and finally gives in to the music. And this part especially kills me because Russell does LOVE the music more than life. Its everything to hims. It’s so perfect because this it what it means to be a band. The drugs, sex, tours & road trips, groupies, and journalists.. it’s the definition of rock band. And the song is just so wonderfully written by Elton john that you can’t not want to be apart of that kind of life after watching this. This song makes me dream of a life like this. And what makes it even more perfect is that it’s based in the 70s it’s like living in the “Golden music era”... well done to the screenplay who wrote this scene it was genius!
@@terrygracy8345 Yeah, and it turned out to be THE iconic line. She is on my list of fantasy loves. My wife agreed that if she showed up at the door and wanted to take me away she could... hers is Andy Garcia. haha
That scene with everyone is singing Tiny Dancer on the bus, William tells Penny, "I have to go home"! Penny runs her hand up to his face, and says, "You ARE home"! That scene always gets to me!
My mom showed me this movie when I was younger so basically grew up watching it, she just passed away a few months ago. So this movie means a lot to me. in this scene particular when penny does that, I do it to people all the time, cause its true home isnt always a place, but a person
Without doubt, one of THE most evocative and poignant movie/music scenes of all time. If you don't shed a tear watching this, you have a heart of stone!
For me, the underrated part of this scene is Billy Crudup's slow reintegration back into normality, with Elton carrying him along. It's very unrushed acting and potently effective.
Billy Crudup doesn't get the credit he deserves, and this scene is a great example of how subtle but powerful he can be, even in a scene with so many other people.
Magical movie moment. I can't quantify what makes this scene so wonderful. Personally, it represents all the best things about being young and in a band. Kate Hudson is a composite of all the girls you fell for at fifteen, but were just out of reach. Just perfection.
I first saw this film when I was 33 years old. I found it to be rather emotional. In a good way. I laughed, I would tear up, I would get angry, I felt young, I felt old. This scene always makes me long for someone to look at me and say with such conviction "You are home". This movie just worked!
I watched this movie for the first time in junior high in the early 2000’s. It was the first movie that made me feel something while watching it. This scene is iconic.
I'm here to re-watch a great scene from a great movie and read the comments. It's amazing how people living across the globe have had similar experiences with a piece of art? We're more connected that we've realised. I'm writing this in the middle of the pandemic but I'm sure we'll emerge from it stronger and better.
They all forgot it was about making music with their friends and realizing this is exactly where they were supposed to be. Playing golf, fishing, camping, barbecuing, celebrating Christmas, going out to dinner, and a million other things, is all about making music and harmony. Life IS about making music with your friends and family.
Amazing scene - brings me to tears. A SF Chronicle movie reviewer, Mick LaSalle, said Almost Famous made Tiny Dancer famous, but I think that's crazy. It was a classic way before this movie, but is the PERFECT song for this scene.
He was dead wrong and I'm surprised people didn't come down like a ton of bricks on him for such an ill-informed and inaccurate comment. This song was HUGE back in the day. It's part of the soundtrack to a half-dozen of my memories of that time.
@@gibsongirl2100 10000% agree. No one called him out because he would have responded with one of his typical arrogant tongue-lashings about how wrong you were. At this point, I pretty much ignore his reviews but I just couldn't let that one ride. Insane. Also, if it wasn't already a hit, why did every single person on the bus know all the words and music? Mick LaSalle really showed his idiocy on this one.
I was fortunate to see him in the Coast of Utopia Plays (three plays at about three hours each all in a day) - he was simply amazing: passionate, fierce and charismatic.
Yes! YES! This Scene!! This moment right here encapsulates so much and so many things. That perfect, perfect feeling that only comes along a few times in our journey through life’s-being together and totally unified with a group of like-minded friends who all share a love and connectivity for their common passion, in this case, music. This brought me back to my running 🏃♀️ 🏃 Family and traveling with our Run Club to various marathons around the country-we ran, trained, sweated, cried, and very much SANG together in moments similar to this. I’m 52 now. I’ve lost three dear friends from our group to cancer in the past three years and I will always remember and never forget our shared experiences together. Weeping as I write this. This scene. What Life Is All About #home #connectedness #belonging #passionsshared
76 model here. This is what I think the 70’s would have been like. The music that was put out in this decade I don’t think will ever happen again. One of the best movies.
This movie, this song, this scene. It remains my favorite memory in any movie. Despite their differences and arguments, it's the love of music that put them together and all it takes is one great song to bring them together again. On a side note, despite playing a lesser role in the movie, I was in love with Anna Paquin from the first time I saw her, not Penny. Keep in mind I was in my early teens at the time I first saw this but I was in awe of Anna's beauty ever since.
This is without a doubt my favourite movie scene ever. The way it captures the spirit and the soul of the music, hardship, friends, life. I connect with it.
You all know most of us have a song that takes us instantly to a time/place in our like. I was 23-24 when this came out and this for me is one of those songs and always has been. Thank you Sir Elton!
Its a really remarkable thing, when a director can set up a scene and leaves the delivery to the actors and with just the right music and the right dialogue you get something so powerful. I remember the first time i saw this scene it really blew my mind
Man. Just watched this movie again for the first time in years. Left my gut in a twist. Truly a masterpiece, in my opinion, and Cameron's best film. You just can't make something as magical again after this one. ""The only true currency in this bankrupt world is what you share with someone else when you're uncool."
thatainthay AF is indeed a masterpiece and Cameron's magnum opus to date ; Jerry Maguire is an awesome and delightful movie, but it doesn't have that stature - AF tells the story of an era and a generation, and is worth its extended cut. It's painful to see what he's been making since then.
I love that shot right after Penny says "you are home" and they're all singing and happy and a big family. You can feel the motion they feel cruising down the road.
This movie.. I love how good and thoughtful the dialogs are. I love the charisma and complicity of the characters. I love how it shows the beauty of that rock group road trip setting. How it tells a surprisingly nice and respectful story of a groupy.
YourTube, Please don't replace this. This is the best moment in film and rock history. Cameron Crowe rocks. I've been watching this over and over again since I saw the film.
Unbelievably late to the party but had the pleasure of viewing almost famous for the first time lastnight and this scene gave me literal goosebumps, made me feel nostalgia for an era i wasn’t even born in! Hats off the Cameron Crowe and the entire cast for giving me a movie moment I’ll struggle to forget
Can we all just acknowledge how freaking legendary Elton John and Bernie Taupin were in the 70s? My god ...
They still are
The greatest
Without doubt.
No words needed they were awsome
“Timeless”
"I have to go home."
"You are home."
These are the best two lines of the whole movie.
It’s all happening
Favorite line ever
Good lines. I'd say the best two lines were...
"Jim Morrison??!!"
"Hes a drunken baffoon!!"
Not really, they don't make any sense.
Definitely, and at the perfect time during a great song that totally encapsulates the situation.
Despite of its popularity its one of the most underrated movies in history... I mean it’s just amazing. Especially this scene. This scene has an amazing vibe and it makes me so emotional.

Fun fact, "you are home" wasn't in the script, it was improvised by Kate Huson. That may be one of the greatest adlibs, it made the whole scene.

The scene where they remembered they were all there because they loved the music
YES! Exactly.
❤
I remember on my senior class trip in 2003 we went to inner harbor Baltimore, It was about 3 hours away. On the way home the song ‘I hope you dance’ by Leanna Womack came on and the entire bus started singing, even macho football players and it felt like this exact moment. I knew I would remember that moment and feeing always and still do 20 years later.
An.d another 30, 40 years down the road, you'll still remember it, and cherish it even more.
Elton absolute best period of creativity and thoughtful music.
bonnzzo play Crocodile Rock or I'm going home
Bored not board
......and my late husband was THE DRUMMER on Tiny Dancer!
@@theBellydancer1949
He must have had a few interesting stories to tell, Sue. God's blessings be with you.
When penny says you are home is magical 💓
This is one of the best scenes in movie history and Im dead serious. Its emotional, you can like feel it in your gut somehow.
This shows the power of music, how it unites people
@Brian Schlanger then you play more music
Music is a catalyst of the soul
Elton John has badass tunes
Magic.
Music, Sports, Movies and Food bring people together.
This scene shows the power of music and how awesome it is between friends
J. Creller and
Possibly my favorite movie scene because it takes me back to the early 70's. We had our group, we were tight, like family!! 40 years later it only exists in my memories!!!
That is my all time favorite seen in any movie I've ever watched. Penny Lane......you ARE home. Goose bumps.
Probably one of the most underrated films ever made.
Almost Famous was art with artistry ....
Always loved the song. It is of my Era. Long long ago.
It really happened to the author of the screenplay!
not underrated at all. its probably the most famous scene of the movie.
If you watch the making of, you will find that her line, "You are home", was improvised. Even more brilliant...
Seriously?!?
@@terrygracy8345 Yeah, and it turned out to be THE iconic line. She is on my list of fantasy loves. My wife agreed that if she showed up at the door and wanted to take me away she could... hers is Andy Garcia. haha
This scene is just pure magic. I can't describe it any other way.
That scene with everyone is singing Tiny Dancer on the bus, William tells Penny, "I have to go home"! Penny runs her hand up to his face, and says, "You ARE home"! That scene always gets to me!
One of the best movie moments of all time.
My mom showed me this movie when I was younger so basically grew up watching it, she just passed away a few months ago. So this movie means a lot to me. in this scene particular when penny does that, I do it to people all the time, cause its true home isnt always a place, but a person
I’m so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing but what a lovely memory you can revisit at will now.
Love
When the fuc did we get ice cream wow that makes me happy.
Sometimes it's not a place or a person, but some thing, like music.
I just watched it and it's one of the best movies I've ever seen
That little affectionate back scratch as the song starts to kick in always gets me.
This one will resonate with anyone 55 or older. I laughed. I shed a tear or two. Oh, to be young again, in the 70s.
Wouldn't you have needed to be almost seventy years old to relate to this scene tho? To be in your late teens or early twenties sometime in the 70's
Magical movie moment. I can't quantify what makes this scene so wonderful. Personally, it represents all the best things about being young and in a band. Kate Hudson is a composite of all the girls you fell for at fifteen, but were just out of reach. Just perfection.
I'm a girl but I get it!
I first saw this film when I was 33 years old. I found it to be rather emotional. In a good way. I laughed, I would tear up, I would get angry, I felt young, I felt old. This scene always makes me long for someone to look at me and say with such conviction "You are home". This movie just worked!
It’s a beautiful love story to the 70s and my god it’s just a wonderful movie. Thank you.
Takes me back to my teen years , the 70's were great . I just didn't know they would ever end .
keyman keys Me too, simple times, great music. History will pass to legend and legend to myth for soon there will be none who remember it,
Me too
One of the greatest movie clips ever
I love this scene so much. It is so beautiful and at the same time so sad. Those times are gone and you will not find people like them nowadays :(
It's a sad and beautiful world.
"Rock stars have kidnapped my son" and jots down those notes will never stop being funny to me. One of my favorite scenes from any movie.
They all forgot it was about making music with their friends and realizing this is exactly where they were supposed to be. Playing golf, fishing, camping, barbecuing, celebrating Christmas, going out to dinner, and a million other things, is all about making music and harmony. Life IS about making music with your friends and family.
"Looking back...she just laughs...the boulevard is not that bad.."
Elton John and Bernie taupin were a dream team
I'm sure I'm not the only one that can watch this scene for hours
me too
Everytime I watch this scene, it is just as powerful as the first time. Maybe even more powerful. The whole ambiance and emotion it provokes is magic.
This film is cinematic gold. Needs to be put on Netflix to teach the uneducated in music
One of the most iconic scenes in the history of ALL of cinema.
So right!
One of the best uses of music in a movie EVER. Perfect song for this moment, moves the plot meaningfully. Cant imagine another song working as well
“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.”
BOB MARLEY!!!!!!!
The most perfect use of a song in a movie.
Everything about this scene is perfection, particularly Kate Hudson.
2:46 - that look breaks my heart. Billy Crudup is such an underrated actor.
Agreed
Big Fish is great, but yeah, he hasn't had as many great roles as you'd have expected.
@@UxCANxDOxIT "Waking the Dead" another one
He's beautiful... Loved him since "Sleepers"... Great film and he was ssssssmokin hot in it🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I was fortunate to see him in the Coast of Utopia Plays (three plays at about three hours each all in a day) - he was simply amazing: passionate, fierce and charismatic.
Yes!
My parents got married in 1974...I didn't get here till 1985. Freaking love Elton John's songs though.
All time favorite movie. This movie gives me such an at home feeling that I can't describe.
Almost Famous is one of the best movies regarding the 70's Rock and Roll life. The Tiny Dancer scene is just brilliant. A must see movie!
So so good!
words to live by, bro
thatainthay AF is indeed a masterpiece and Cameron's magnum opus to date ; Jerry Maguire is an awesome and delightful movie, but it doesn't have that stature - AF tells the story of an era and a generation, and is worth its extended cut. It's painful to see what he's been making since then.
thatainthay I loved this movie. It did make me feel desperately lonely
When his mother said , “Rock stars have kidnapped my son.” , and the girl wrote it down. I burst out laughing.
Forever bitter that I missed the 70’s. I’ll die mad about it.
This scene murders my heart.
RobotWookiee I’m late to responding but I never related to a comment more in my life
Greatest ending to a classic scene ever every delivery is perfect
One of the greatest movie scenes of any movie of any type....ever. 'Nuff said.
YourTube, Please don't replace this. This is the best moment in film and rock history. Cameron Crowe rocks. I've been watching this over and over again since I saw the film.
Great casting, even down to the smallest parts. This movie perfectly portrayed the early-70’s rock-n-roll party and drama.
On so many levels, this is one of the greatest scenes in movie history, especially if you grew up during the 70s.
What a fantastic movie and Kate Hudson is priceless!!
+tteague7 all she did was impersonate Drew Barrymore. I wasn't impressed.
+ted norton drew who?

One of my favourite scenes of all time. Absolutely love this movie!!!
One of the best cinematic moments ever
Brings back memories of the love and good vibes of the seventies. Of course some never felt it. I feel sorry for them.
