Despite your caveat about it being so much work, I'm so glad you did this video! It is very well done without being tedious to watch, very informative, and makes me want to create something!
Kimberly Chatfield Thank you so much Kimberly, I knew I might hear that it's too much work but I have these pots outside now and they're holding up great in the high temps, humidity and rain! I'm happy you feel inspired too! Patti
Mrs. Elhoff,Thank you so much, for going trough all of this work, just so we can this information. I truly appreciate it. The pots turned out beautifully!. Thank so much.
+Antoinette Lee thank you so much! It's so nice to be appreciated like that. The planters were out all winter and they held up as if I decoupaged them yesterday. :) Patti
Thank you so much for all your lovely videos. I hope this winter I will work on some of these. It's worth putting in the effort rather than having them disintegrate in the weather
I love this video Mrs. Elhoff! I have all the supplies and will be making the Rose pattern while using wrapping paper. Thank you again for posting this video!
The pots are just beautiful. I think worth every bit of time invested. But, I have NOT made them yet! May have a totally different take later, tehe. Love love love your music.
+Norma Rodriguez You are so welcome Norma. It is worth it, it's raining outside right now, as it has done off and on since I've made these pots, and they're holding up just great! Patti
Thank you for the detailed video. I’ve learned a lot from your previous videos. I’m kind of stuck on a clay pot decoupage project and I don’t want to ruin it at the final step. I sealed pot with Patio Paint, then used Mod Podge Dishwasher to apply tons of pictures (laser printed). Coated with same Mod Podge X5 thin coats. (Might’ve been x4 or x6, lost count.) It’s been 8 days. I want to apply a final waterproofing coat. Mod Podge Dishwasher directions say cure 28 days. This won’t ever see a Dishwasher and it’s a gift for early May. Can you recommend a waterproof method and can I apply it now? Thank you for the time you take to read this. And advice!
Another glorious project and another one that I forwarded to my girlfriend!! I can see using this technique for those really popular "The Jones'" kind of big planters that are so popular near the front of a home, to welcome guests. Beautiful!
rubymimosa I like your idea of doing this on a larger planter, it is a lot of work for something smaller though you can also do a few of them at a time. :) Patti
Those pots are gorgeous!!!!! I do have 1 question about the varnish and its effect on the plant.....does it chemically hurt the plant's growth? I have a new greenhouse room to decorate and painting pots is a priority! I want to sit in a warm, cozy plant filled room in the middle of winter....a dream come true!!! Thank you for sharing this beautiful tutorial with us. I will look forward to more of your channel!
I love it. I agree if you don't like it don't do it just keep your comments to yourself. I was taught if you don't have anything to say good then don't say nothing at all thank for sharing with me
Not quite sure which you're responding to, however, assumably a negative reply? That's the only way DIYer's will know what to video and what not to. Thanks for sharing your "good vibes only" but wake up, this is a CHANNEL in REALITY

patioelf What a sweet treat for my afternoon! Thank you, Patti. I have enjoyed your channel so much. If all goes well, I will be including the clay pots in the $5 Summer Goodwill Challenge, going up on 6/29. xo
Very nice video. Well done and easy to follow. Although a lot of work, if I do 4 pots at once then put them all in the oven at the same time then maybe not so bad. Thank you again for the great video.
Lots of work but we'll worth it. BEAUTIFUL. I have 2 LG clay frogs I purchased that need color and this technique would be perfect. Hope they fit in the oven lol thanks for the inspiration♡
Eileen Blair You're welcome Eileen. Spar varnish is finally ready in hardware stores so you don't have to go to a Boat showroom to buy it. (at least here in the US) It really holds up well out in the elements. :) Patti
@patioelf: Thank you for your great visuals and explanations. Here in Michigan anything left outside in the elements is subject to a beating, but I can see how your weatherproofing techniques might withstand all save our hard winter (would move your nice pots inside during that time)! Sound advice, excellent tips, inspiring advice. Many thanks. Please continue to post. By the way, your work with the decorative napkins in particular is very cool.
Hi Patti The pots came out so pretty, love them. But boy they sure are alot of work. I have never heard of Spar varnish, I will pick some up the next time I am out. Love the twinkle lights at the end have a great day Patti deezie
Deneen Lotz Thank you Deezie, and you are so right! They took 3 days to do-so much work. Mostly oven and waiting time, that's why I keep mine inside. LOL. But a lot of people have been asking me how to waterproof their clay pots…maybe once they see all of that they'll change their minds. :) Patti
If you are still not going to use your decoupged clay pots indoors for house plants, do you have to do the baking and clear coating? Can you tell me which steps to skip for house plants? Love your video, great ideas?
Hello Anna, if you don't seal the inside of a terracotta pot, the water from the plants will seep through the pots and eat away at your work from the inside out. :)
Thanks to you, I just got an idea. We let someone borrow my son’s mobility scooter and they scratched it up. I was not happy and planned to replace the cover. I think it would be even better if I decoupaged his favorite team, Nittany Lions and/or some other things he likes. Now, I know how to prepare it. You know what? He has dozens of ribbons from Special Olympics. Maybe . . . Only one really big problem - the cover is plastic. Hmm. I’ll look at some of your other videos.
Hi Patioelf. This tutorial is really good for some summer time creativity however if you could tell me how do you bake them in the oven (as I've never done anything like this before) it would be of great help. :-) Love your videos. Keep posting.
+Gargi Tarafdar Hi Gargi! I use Mod Podge which is good to use in the oven. You decoupage your item, then set it in your oven-turn the oven on and set it to 170 degrees. When it reaches 170 turn it off but leave your project in the oven until it cools off. (about an hour) I hope this helps! Thank you, Patti
Thank you so much!! I grow geraniums in pots that I paint. I'm going to try this because it's more beautiful than my 'stick figure' hand painted looking work. 👏
Love your artistic talent...So many creative ideas. Ive watched so many of your videos that just about eveything i look at now i see myself "decoupaging" it! .... I would like to try some plates, bottles; small projects first. Im going to get supplies. Could you tell me what kind or brand of brushes you favor?
Thanks for all your good tips. I'm making a pot with my grandsons to give to their mother. I know she will love it. She will only use it in her home on the dining table so I won't have to make it waterproof.
what a nice idea Jena. I prefer to keep my hand made ones in the house too, I don't want to take the chance with the weather and the wildlife damaging it. :) Have fun! Patti
I am new to Decoupage. I enjoyed your video. I tried doing one, came out beautiful. Followed every steps. Feeling happy about the end result. I have few questions can you please help me, * can decoupage teracotta pots be used like regular pots? If I put soil, plants and water them regularly will it spoil the pots? Thanks
Can I ask, why do you put the painted pot in the oven before you Modge Podge the pictures onto the pot? I have decoupaged several terra cotta pots with napkins or die cuts. Then sealed them with a spray sealant. I don't understand the purpose of putting the painted pot in the oven and then proceeding to decoupage. Thanks I love the idea of decoupaging the pots. I like the results when I've done my own pots.
Sue Bryant Hi Sue! I am with you! A lot of people have asked me to do a video on weatherproofing these, maybe once they see this they'll say -I'll just go buy one that's already weatherproofed - usually kiln fired or just not clay. These are outside now with flowers in them but the next video on clay pots will be about the ones we keep inside. :) Patti
JustBySoco Hi- sorry I don't make that more clear, I mean to just put your work inside of your own oven that has not yet been turned on. You want the item you're working on to heat up at the same time as your oven. :) Patti
These are so beautiful and are amazing decorative pieces in and outside the home! Thank you for sharing and all your great tips. Just one question, is the oven temperature in degree Celsius or Fahrenheit?
OMG!! once again! I have lots of ugly clay pots and pretty ones are very expensive. I'll love to be able to do this to them. I will, thank you very much!! (that is the pic of my hubby)
+KevAndCheryl Acton Thank you Cheryl, it's funny you mentioned that was your husband-I was just thinking, Wow, he's very expressive! LOL. Have fun with this though it sounds like you will! Patti
OK. I've done my postcard TV tray, my question is how do I not leave lines from the foam "brush? I used mod podge --- outdoor (green label), which I found to be extremely thick, not like the " regular" mod podge. Thx!
Chanelle StPierre Hello Chanelle and I agree! I also had lines because I used the bristle brush. And you are on to something. The Mod Podge was too thick. You can water it down a little and continue to use a sponge brush but when the medium is so thick you are right, it will leave brush strokes. It may help you to use a 'flat' finish or matte, and use the regular brand of Mod Podge or a product called Collage Podge. The important thing is the Varnish since that's what will be doing all of the protecting work on the piece. Hope that helps. :) Patti
Hi Shay, it's called Spar Varnish, and if you're here in the States you can get it in most hardware stores-a few companies make it so it shouldn't be hard to find. Patti
Sorry new question! To oven cure, you said 350 degrees was too hot and you used 300 degrees instead. Later in video, 170 degrees was used. Is the 170 degrees also in Fahrenheit? Because 170 Celsius = 338 Fahrenheit. I’m going with it all being in Fahrenheit. Ok I’ll stop thinking too hard. Thank you for a great tutorial!
I want to do something like this with my fluid or but I don’t wanna spend a lot of money on the spar varnish so I saw one by mini wax helmsman water based spar urethane in clear shape gloss do you think that is doable?
Patti, these are beautiful, however, it does require a bit of processing to create. I wanted to ask you, the Spar paint/water proofing, would I need to cover the outside as-well-as the inside? Thanks.
All the videos I saw, the people distressed their cabinets. Is that the new style now.? I don't think that would go with my scheme but is it a technique that goes with everything? And what are your thoughts on chalk painting furniture? Does it really work? And do I have to buy the name brand (I forgot her name) lol or can one make QUALITY chalk paint themselves....or in your opinion, is it worth it to buy the proven kind? You're so kind to respond so quickly. Thank you so much! Oh btw, it seems as though you can chalk paint EVERYTHING!! True?
+TheBlueDaisy Hi, yes, the store bought chalk paint is really good. There are several brands and you may find one that you like more than others. Some are more chalky, some are more smooth, and some like Annie Sloan make trend setting colors that are gorgeous. You can use chalk paint on metal, wood, glass, plastic, canvas etc. Rubber is not a good surface to use it on, and if there is rust on something, you would have to get rid of the rust. :) Patti
I love your video. I can’t wait to try this. I’ve never done this before. What decoupage do you like best? Does the spar sealer turn yellow? I am looking at doing something with white.
I'm not sure if you've done this yet but I've been using spar varnish on pots that I painted with chalk paint. Initially the varnish is pretty clear when using a fresh can. And I haven't noticed those first projects turning yellow. However, as the varnish in the can ages, it gets thicker and turns a much darker caramel color. I've used this old varnish over white chalk paint and actually really like the "aged" look, as if the pot has been sitting out for a long time. I've also found that it take 3-4 days to completely dry. Even the new varnish took at least two days to dry completely for me.
I apologize if you already answered this but I couldn't find it among the comments: do I need to weatherproof quite so for flower pots to be used indoors? I mean, surely on occasion there will be spills over the pot but does that warrant the extra steps? Thanks
Pretty Pots! Why did you paint the inside with paint when it doesn't show up and add the modge poge and spar? Could I use a plastic pot and do all of the steps the way you outlined? Have you had any pots in the oven explode? Thank you, Dawn
hit there Dawn and thank you! The terra cotta pots are so porous the water from the plants will seep right on through to the outside causing the decoupage to peel away. So you really have to waterproof it inside and out. Do you mean could you just use a plastic pot inside of the terra cotta instead? You could do that. Never had any problems using the oven although it never goes over 175 degrees. I also won't put them in the oven after using the spar varnish. :) Patti
We are remodeling our kitchen and I have painted cabinets and instead of stripping the paint, I'm going to clean and repaint them. Do you have a video or know someone that is good at this type of endeavor? Thank you!!
+TheBlueDaisy Chalk paint!!! You don't need to strip your cabinets and you don't need to sand them. You will probably need 2 coats, and you can get chalk paint everywhere these days! Look on youtube for video's on how to chalk paint ....there are so many of them! If you want to get a high gloss on them you can use a high gloss top coat over them instead of wax as they always suggest. Hope that helps! Patti
+Anna Kitchin You could probably do that, but you would have to first use the spar varnish all over the inside and out of the pot. Decoupage over it, then add it again. Chalk paint will wear down if/when water seeps through the clay pot from the inside and ruin your work. It could get a little expensive. :) Patti
Question before buying product. Is Spar Urethane or Polyurethane Sealer dangerous to breath in while using it? Is it dangerous if it gets on your skin while using it? Thanks for your help.
Can you use the spar varnish without placing the pots in the oven? I want to do this project on LARGE terracotta pots I have (and therefore, they do not fit in the oven).
I KNOW THIS IS A VERY OLD VIDEO BUT THERE IS A PRODUCT CALLED: MIRACLE SEALANTS, 511 POROUS PLUS SEALER SPRAY THAT IS THE BEST OF THE BEST !!! IT SEALS THE TERRA COTTA AND IT KEEPS LETTING THE PLANTS BREATH. YOU HAVE TO PUT A THIN COATING OF THE PAINT THEN SPRAY THE SEALER ON TWICE.
😂 you are very nice!! I'm trying understand English, but I'm 71 years old, it's not easy for me. Maria from Argentina! Thank you! Beautiful job!❤
What can I say apart from thank you so much again, brilliant tutorial. Enough to encourage all of us to have a go.

Best video on decoupage I’ve watched so far. 👍
You are really great at this. Your projects are bright and beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic! May I do it without having oven?
The pots are just beautiful. I think worth every bit of time invested. But, I have NOT made them yet! May have a totally different take later, tehe. Love love love your music.
URGENT ****** Where did you get the paint roller that you applied the Martha Stewart paint to the pot ???? I can't find it any where ??????
Beautiful work, I always wanted to learn how to do this project. Yes it's a long process but great results. Once again thanks
+Norma Rodriguez You are so welcome Norma. It is worth it, it's raining outside right now, as it has done off and on since I've made these pots, and they're holding up just great!

Where do I go to see you supplies link does not work ..do you have a website?
Great tutorial! Well paced, good tips ... my mother's day project begins tonight!!
I loved how all of your DIY'S ame out today they are so beautiful.i can't wait to make some myself. Thank you for explaining each step.

Patti
is the varnish non toxic? I want to weatherproof my pots, but don't want any toxins in the soil (will be growing some edibles in them)
I wish they would have answered this because I had the same question
Those pots are gorgeous!!!!! I do have 1 question about the varnish and its effect on the plant.....does it chemically hurt the plant's growth? I have a new greenhouse room to decorate and painting pots is a priority! I want to sit in a warm, cozy plant filled room in the middle of winter....a dream come true!!! Thank you for sharing this beautiful tutorial with us. I will look forward to more of your channel!

Shut up Karen

Thank you Tom, you give excellent feedback. I put a new video out each week on Thursdays before noon (EST) I hope to hear from you again!
Patti
This is a great way to re-use pots that would otherwise be thrown away! Might I ask what music this is? It is beautiful and uplifting as all get out!
Can this be done with acrylic paint that is not the Martha Stewart multi-surface paint?
Thank you. Great information, and I like your technique of writing instructions out on a white board.
+Londa Carter Thank you Londa, I love hearing that kind of feedback :)
Patti
Patti, I have learned so much from you videos. Thank you Marcia
Marcia Jones awww, thank you Marcia, that warms my heart. :)
Patti
Great job. I wonder if you could use yhe same process with glass or ceramic vase? 🤔
This is an excellent video with very clear instructions. Thank you so much! 😊
I have done alot of decoupage....I am wondering if that spar varnish will turn yellow...most varnishes do, so take that into consideration.
My understanding is to use water base and not oil
Marine Varnish works well too!
I believe you said that you had patterns for cutting paper or fabric for clay pots. I sure could use some.
Hi Patti
The pots came out so pretty, love them. But boy they sure are alot of work. I have never heard of Spar varnish, I will pick some up the next time I am out. Love the twinkle lights at the end
have a great day Patti

Hi Patioelf. This tutorial is really good for some summer time creativity however if you could tell me how do you bake them in the oven (as I've never done anything like this before) it would be of great help. :-) Love your videos. Keep posting.

Chanelle StPierre Hi Shay! Yes, it is. Mod Podge is one of the more popular decoupage glues. Have fun-you sound like me with the creativity. :)
Patti
An EmeraldGypsyHeart Production I think so
Thanks for all your good tips. I'm making a pot with my grandsons to give to their mother. I know she will love it. She will only use it in her home on the dining table so I won't have to make it waterproof.

I am new to Decoupage. I enjoyed your video. I tried doing one, came out beautiful. Followed every steps. Feeling happy about the end result. I have few questions can you please help me,
* can decoupage teracotta pots be used like regular pots? If I put soil, plants and water them regularly will it spoil the pots?
Thanks
Wonderful tutorial! Question, if the pots are for indoor use only do I need to do the varnish step at the end? Thank you!
I love your pots! I don't put my pots outside at all. They are for houseplants only. So can I skip the last step of varnishing?
Can you use something else besides "Martha Stewart" paint for the background color? What is hers made from oil/acrylic/chalk paint?
Same question here...
Thanks for writing some of the decorations out. Thanks so very much
Great tips! Thank you and Merry Christmas :)
WOW! what a fabulously thorough video. Thank you.
Thank you Kari! I love that kind of feedback too..
Patti
The pots are beautiful! Thank you for such an interesting video!

Can you use material also like cotton broad cloth, use this same process?
Another one of your great videos! Thanks a bunch!
+Deborah Deal-Blackwell, APR you are very welcome, thank you for taking the time to let me know!
Patti
Hi,I love your vídeos ,you allways talk about the cold oven were can you get it?

Love the project, but really throwing away the plastic after using it one time? Is there another technique that wastes less plastic?
Where do I go to see your supplies...also do you have a website? I love you work!
I want to do something like this with my fluid or but I don’t wanna spend a lot of money on the spar varnish so I saw one by mini wax helmsman water based spar urethane in clear shape gloss do you think that is doable?
yes, any spar varnish is good for outdoors. :)
Those are so beautiful, did you come up with this by yourself?
Patti, these are beautiful, however, it does require a bit of processing to create. I wanted to ask you, the Spar paint/water proofing, would I need to cover the outside as-well-as the inside? Thanks.
Antoinette Lee Yes Antoinette, you would need to cover both inside and out. (and thank you!)

Love ur videos. Is it possible to leave them dry without oven baking?

I painted my pots with regular acrylic paints - can I still put them in the oven ?
I just found you on UA-cam. great works. could you tell me how to do a cake plate with a cover...where I can still put food on it.
Muy bonitas las dos mesetas... gracias por tu trabajo y enseñanza...el Señor te bendiga grandemente muchos besos desde Sevilla España
Hi. I'm new to decoupage and really love your pots. I have Helmsman spar varnish. Do you know whether it works as well as the rustoleum?
I apologize if you already answered this but I couldn't find it among the comments: do I need to weatherproof quite so for flower pots to be used indoors? I mean, surely on occasion there will be spills over the pot but does that warrant the extra steps? Thanks
Do you put the pots directly on the oven rack or on a metal tray when in oven? 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
Pretty Pots! Why did you paint the inside with paint when it doesn't show up and add the modge poge and spar? Could I use a plastic pot and do all of the steps the way you outlined? Have you had any pots in the oven explode?
Thank you,
Dawn
hit there Dawn and thank you! :)
Patti
Perfect for what I'm doing right now. Thanks a million
marion mcginn I love hearing that Marion! Thank you…
Patti
Great colors
Can you use paper that you put through a copier? I have personal art I would like to be able to use in decoupaged projects.
I loved the results ur amazing ❤️ !! How did you make the second pot color metallic?? Am new in to decoupage. Thanks
Thank you so much Pati! I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and tips.

Great job! Hailey. 6 years old.
Hi. Thanks for the videos. Can u use a different brand then Marta's? Same kind of paint.
do you think instead of Martha stuart multi surface you could use chalk paint and then after all the deco podge steps, seal with the spar varnish??
+Anna Kitchin You could probably do that, but you would have to first use the spar varnish all over the inside and out of the pot. Decoupage over it, then add it again. Chalk paint will wear down if/when water seeps through the clay pot from the inside and ruin your work. It could get a little expensive. :)

I have painted many pots without ever putting them in the oven, but I wasn't decoupaging them, so maybe that's the difference.
I wanted to decoupage glass jars and use them in my garden. Is this possible? What would I use for this?
Is your website still up and running? I've not been able to open it up to order products. Love your videos by the way!!!
Can I use my acrylic paints instead of the one you are using? I have a lot 🥰
Beautiful pat xx great tutorial xx
You Rock !! I love your pot. Very nice!
Is there another type of paint, besides Martha Stewart, one can use under the Spar varnish? Perhaps chalk paint?
There was nothing on vista print site. Can you give written direction and names of paint again etc.?
Will the varnish work with fabric decopaged onto a plastic pot thankyou
