Rub with a baby wipe while still in the silicone mold to remove those extra thin bits. Alex Plus is the caulk to use. I bought a case last time because its all I use for castings. Thank you SO much for spreading the word with this video!
@@AndreaStevens2012 DAP Alex Plus in white. The clear stays too rubbery. And it doesn't mix well with the white nor will it stick to the white if you try to layer them. I ran out of white and finished filling the mold with clear, they wouldn't stay together.
DAS Air Dry clay can be removed from the moulds when still wet and can be glues to a rounded surface. You can paint it after you have glued it to your project when still wet as well. DAS can crack but not as much as other air dry paint.
Thankyou, as a beginner i was having all sorts of problems. Not now, the freezer has done the trick. Brilliant. No gas bagging about nothing, just straight into the demo. So much better. So thankyou again.
I have those sugar craft fondant molds, too, and struggled with air-dry clay. Silicone caulk is a brilliant casting alternative. Thanks for sharing this tip!!
Great information. I love that you aren't hesitant to show us what NOT to do as well as what works. Wanted to share that i have had success with stencil chalk paste in the fondant molds.
I'm so happy to have found your channel. This is a very instructive video. I've been using IOD mouldes for years now....and I've never put one in my freezer, I do agree that some of their mouldes are extremely detailed and for those I use resin.....some times I do use a brayer on the back side of the moulde to make sure It's flat.... Thank you for sharing these very useful tips!
The caulking tip is a game changer! Thank you for making this video, my desired application is entirely different from decoupage, but your wisdom is still incredibly helpful.
I have been watching a bunch of video’s and had not seen anyone use those fine detailed shallow cake mold decorations. I was amazed at how delicate they looked. 😊
I LOVE this video and the info you gave me! I’m wanting to make some doors for my dollhouse that’s missing them and wanted to know how to add details to it and this is giving me some wonderful ideas on how to do it! Thanks so much, new subscriber! ❤️🤗🥰
I have learned to decoupage from you years back, I could recognize your voice after years break... When I accidentally came across your video. Thanks for sharing. Stay healthy and happy❤❤❤ Lots of love from India.. Nagaland .
Thank you for all the great info and tips. I just started to play around with molds to add to decoupaged pieces and have been struggling. Such a big help!
It was a pleasure spending time with you! So Helpful!! Now I know what to use for those pretty bakery molds I just had to buy two years ago! Lol. Thank You!
I am thrilled to have just discovered your channel and this tutorial. I found this extremely helpful and the information and advice you offered are invaluable for making molds. Having tried air dry clay only so far, I was left disappointed in the cracking tendency when drying. The hot glue and silicone caulking are definitely "must tries" after watching your video. I love the fact that the silicone caulking is ideal for lace cake molds. Thank you so much.
OMG! WOW! 😲🤩👍 I'll take a look! I haven't seen such an informative video in a long time!!! Great!!! Thank you so much for this!! When a professional like you makes such a detailed video, it's always brilliant for people who don't have much experience with these types of molds. THANK YOU SO MUCH again from the bottom of my heart!!!
Hello, This video is going to take my hobby life to ANOTHER level!! I have used a ton of "Alex Plus" caulk for all my interior painting. I am so excited about knowing that it can be used for molds as well, and also using hot glue! This info made my creativity go wild! 🤔 I was just wonder about the one mold you use? The dark grey one at the 2:50 part of the video? Any info on company, and or any info on that type of mold would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for sharing your amazing work. ...J...
Oh! Those paints looks similar to the Pebeo setasilk shimmer range if that helps to find more of what you like for future projects after the Martha Stewart ones were discontinued
When I unmolded the air dry clay I used it crackled slightly after it dried on the bottle .. I used cornstarch and it came out if the mold ok .. but I didn’t leave it in the mold very long .. like only 10-15 min before I took them out!
Use gloves with E6000 glue. I used it for years with jewelry but suddenly started breaking out in hives and a red rash even when using gloves. I was always careful to use it in a ventilated area but I still developed an allergy.
Hi. I have never seen such an informative video on making clay molds. Plz make a video on how to apply aur clay on fondant silicon molds. I have a stock of fondant silicon molds & I want to avail it. Thank u 😊
Hi. Thanks for the great tips. I’ve used the Mad clay and find it very brittle much to brittle to put on furniture. I’ve had it crack and chip on me. I’m wondering did I get a bad batch? I’ve used glue and resin also but love the clay for layering but unfortunately won’t use on furniture as it’s not robust enough. Could you recommend a clay that is? Someone suggested using a product called bondcrete on clay to attach it to wood but I’ve not tried this yet. I’d love your advice. Thank you.
There are the little plastic pieces that you can use on toothpaste tubes- they can help u on the caulking tubes- you slip it on the bottom; and fill it up as you go; making the caulk come out more easily
I have been trying to use air dry clay to make little kid safe fidget spinners, but they curl when taken out of the mold. to finish drying on the pattern side. Is there a way to prevent or correct this?
The glue gun is no longer available and Amazon doesn't know if or when it will be available. Can you recommend another one. I can't wait to get started on molds. Thanks
What is the best adhesive to use to affix the acrylic-silicone caulk lace casts to bottles? Im thinking hot glue or E6000 might fill in the spaces ruining the lace effect....
Not sure how well this will work for the lace, but it works for air dry clay that's still "wet".. I use "triple thick". I think if you paint it onto the surface in a thin layer, then lay down your molded piece, it should work great. I get it at Michaels.
Curious...why do you say to not use 100% silicone or acrylic caulk? What is the reason behind using the blend? This is the first I've heard of using calk at all (great idea for larger projects for sure!) so I am just wondering why/why not. Thanks!
Are there any types of clay you can use at home that are similar to ceramic clay? I don't want to use it for decoupage projects. I want something that I can use to make doll tea sets, but something that's harder and nicer than sculpy clay.
First time viewer here...this is a good video in terms of all the helpful tips you provide...but what's with the speed? Just from the title I assumed this would be a learning type vid therefore it is okay to take some time to explain &/or demonstrate. For example, using a rubber band to hold the clay in place is genius! You shouldn't rush through such tidbits...don't assume that all viewers know what you know...people who already know this info can either enjoy the refresh or not watch if they are concerned with the length. Hurrying through such content really is not helpful. Please consider slowing down a bit when doing tutorial type vids. Thank you for your consideration and for sharing your knowledge!
Yes, thank you...I am aware of how to control the playback speed, which I di. However, my point is, you still do not mention some of your movements, i.e. the rubberband. Again, brilliant idea, but you just put the band around the clay and jar and didn't say what you're doing or why. This is what I meant when I said, please don't assume that viewers know what you do. You might do this all the time, but it was a first for me. Anyhew, the actual speed of which you speak is not the issue, I was asking you to take time and explain details such as the band as you go...you know so much and since you're making vids, I assumed you wanted to teach. No worries. I'm sure you have plenty of followers and newbies like me are incidental. Thank you for replying. Best of luck!@@annaorthodox4653
