Certainly makes a boring pot more interesting! 🙂 But remember, use indoors only, to protect your hard work and use a liner inside if filling with a live plant.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it. Watch out for my upcoming video where I'll try out compostable cling film! I hope its good! Should be up in a couple of weeks.
Beautiful. Great for giving us the lil tip about the cling wrap & the baby wipe. And using water on your paint brush to tear the napkin much easier. I Love to Decoupage. Your Pot is Beautiful 💜🤗
I’ve always loved decoupage. The reason I found your video was because I have a bunch of terra-cotta pots I’ve got to spruce up. Thanks for the video and yours turned out gorgeous!!
A very clever technique for smoothing everything out - BRILLIANT! Thanks for sharing your tip with us all. I just stumbled onto your channel for the first time today and it was relaxing and interesting to watch.
I'm so glad you enjoyed my video. I'm planning a new video where I'll try out the new compostable cling film for smoothing the découpage. Please do keep an eye out for it. Should be up in a couple of weeks. Thanks for watching.
Beautiful work. You should think about a sand bag... I use one in painting curvy objects. I have an old wash cloth partially filled with rice... I found that didn't come out like the sand one.😊
Great job, it looks really beautiful and I'll certainly give this a try, what a lovely gift for a friend one of these beauties would be, thank you for inspiring me xx
Thank you SO much for sharing your napkin technique on a Terra Cotta pot! Your video was incredibly thorough and I love your calm uplifted voice This was my very first decoupage project and it turned out beautifully! I shared your techniques with 2 other friends! So much appreciated !
Awesome idea. I Wonder if can you the same with photographs? You have given me a great idea , I love your creativity, I enjoy being different creative wise.
Hello! Thank you, glad you enjoyed my video. You could perhaps scan your photos onto thin paper or a napkin taped to printer paper and then découpage with that. It works best with a laser printer as the ink doesn't run when wet unlike an ink jet printer. One day I might do a video about it but I haven't currently got a laser printer. An actual photo on photo paper would be too thick. Hope this helps 🌸.
I really like that brush you're using for the base coat, I'm such a brush fanatic! I looked for "reeves" on Amazon but couldn't find them. It seems soft and sturdy and I like the shorter bristles. Love your videos! 🥰
Thank you. I think I got that brush from Warehouse Stationary here in NZ. I'm not sure where you would find them overseas. I'm sorry I can't help with that.
I enjoyed your video and plan to use it to make a set of decorative outer pots sealed on the bottom for use indoors to protect furniture from potted plants. Do you find it necessary to wait until you have removed the designs from the napkin before separating the layers? I usually do that step first.
Hi, thanks for watching. I recommend using a plant that has a plastic pot around it. If you want to plant directly into a découpaged pot I'd suggest sealing the pot inside and out with two coats of varnish before starting this project.
Gardening is my passion and will be doing a few pots. You are so relaxing to listen to and have subscribed. Look forward to doing more of your projects, thank you. 🇬🇧🌺
Thank you Pixie girl. I also enjoy gardening and these pots are a way to bring the outside in. 😊🌷 I have some more videos planned so thank you for subscribing.
Hi Susy, I do enjoy your videos of the different projects that you create, they are all beautiful. I am inspired to try doing decoupage! Also I love hearing the Kiwi accent, makes me feel quite homesick 😪 Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing more videos in the future.
Hi Beverley, thank you so much. I'm so pleased you enjoy watching my projects. I hope you do give it a try. My own voice sounds horrible to me but I'm glad you like hearing it! Ha ha Are you a Kiwi too?
No problem. Happy to hear from a fellow Kiwi 😊. I think there are a couple of places in nz that send single napkins. Just Google "decoupage napkins nz". Or if you're near a King's Plant Barn or Plamers its worth looking there.
Hi, I often find them at my local garden centre but for an online option you can buy from a company called Wimmel Napkins. They ship internationally and have the most extensive range you'll ever see!
So beautiful😍😍! I love this idea. Ive tried painting terracotta in The past but didnt varnish inside and out so my paint bubbled. hopefully this way the artwork is protected from the moisture wicking properties of the terracotta.
@@suzyscrafts thank you! Ive looked a bit at home depot but didnt find the right thing so ill try again now that i have a better idea. I hope the sun is shining on your beautiful garden today🧡😊💐
Your pot is beautiful. I think that I will try this. I have one question. Why do you tear the napkin? Could you use scissors to cut out the section you want to use?
Hi Gail, please do give it a try. Its so satisfying. You could cut the napkins but what I find is a torn edge seems to disappear into the surface whereas a cut edge you can see and feel when you're finished. I prefer to make mine look as smooth as possible so that's why I tear the edges.
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed my video. These are only suitable for indoor use. You can wipe the outside with a damp cloth to clean but I wouldn't immerse in water.
Great question! Yes, you can use it if you use a plastic liner. Most plants come in their own plastic pot, so just pop one in like that. You can remove it for watering. 🥰🌷🌼
hi Suz, this looks so good, thank you! just want to ask if the porter's paint can go on a glass jar as you did with chalk paint in the other video? I do like the egg shell finish 😊 and can you mix students acrylic paint into white chalk paint to get a colored background?
Hello and thanks for watching. I haven't tried the Porter's paints on glass myself. The test pots I use are quite a matt sort of paint finish so they maybe okay but you would need to do a test to see if they stick. I wouldn't recommend mixing student acrylics into chalk paint as they have different formulations. You can get the chalk paints in multiple colours these days so you might find one you like.
Hi Katie, yes I put two coats of a water based varnish inside and out to seal the pot. I would still use a plastic liner if potting a live plant into one of these pots though, and indoor use only.
Good question. I find if I cut the napkin rather than tearing it I end up being able to see the hard cut lines once I'm finished. Torn edges seem to disappear into the painted surface more seamlessly.
Hi, my first time exploring decoupage on flower pots. May I ask if there is any particular type of paper napkins for decoupage or just regular paper napkins? Thank you very much for any advice 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
Suzy, I'm having problems with the saucer. Should I seal it , paint it then decoupage it or no decoupage but seal it. I've sealed it with mod podge, painted, napkins, sealed and it wasn't waterproof. Ideas😢
Hi, i don't usually bother with saucers. Mod podge wouldn't be strong enough to seal it. If you plan to put live plants with water. I think you would need to use an oil based varnish (will turn yellow over time) or a boat varnish. Best if putting a live plant in your pot to keep it in a plastic pot as a liner or seal the inside with one of the above mentioned.
Thank you. Yes, I'm still learning about making videos and I agree with you. Since that video I have changed the cover on my work table to a more simple design.
Hi Suzy, can you (or anyone) advise plz on where I'm going wrong? I'm new to decoupage & tried the napkin technique on 3 terracotta pots. Ens result is lovely, but i find that no matter how long I leave the glue to set, when I do the 2nd coat on top it disrupts the image & goes soggy. Ive used both Mod Pidge & PVA glue & not overloaded, so I dnt know why this is happening. How long are you meant to leave the 1st coat to dry? Hope you can help. Thanku❤
Hi Julie, I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your glue drying. I'm not sure I've had the same problem. Can I ask, is the paper dry when you go to do your top coat of glue? Sometimes when you do the top coat of glue it does moisten the paper so you do need to be gentle in application so that the image doesn't move around. Once that top glue coat is dry you shouldn't have any problem with varnishing. As for how long it takes the glue to dry, that really depends on the temperature. Where I live, in summer it can be dry in minutes. In winter it can take hours.
@@suzyscrafts Thanks so much for your advice. Like i said, I use either PVA or Mod Podge & let each layer dry accordingly. I put a 2nd payer of PVA on a pot yday, as it felt totally dry, but once I started putting on a thin layer it started shifting the image. I used your cling film method (genius) & smoothed it out thankfully. Decoupage paper seems much more resilient than tissue paper, it seems so fragile to work with. Ive ordered a sealant spray to finish it off, so fingers crossed.🤞

Awesome! I hope you enjoy making them as much as I do.
I sprayed my pots with 2 coats of a clear sealer. That way my paint doesn't get absorbed into the pot.

@deborahsewell202 do you mean after you paint it with two coats of paint and let it dry?
I think she means she seals the terricotta pot with a sealer before she begins.

@@suzyscrafts im wondering about the varnish, if theres a spacific kind that works best
I tend to use water based varnish. Simply because it doesn't yellow over time.

I use British Paints water based varnish. It is advertised as a timber varnish but perfect for découpage.
Verry good. 👍

Love your video. I have a question about the varnish. Does the varnish change the color of the pot and the white background? Thanks
Good question! If you use water based varnish it won't change the colours. Oil based varnish turns yellow over time. Stick to water based.

Very pretty, love this. Can this be put on a covered porch? The napkin is beautiful. Thank you 🌺

Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed my video. These are only suitable for indoor use. You can wipe the outside with a damp cloth to clean but I wouldn't immerse in water.
And to a plant it's like plastic and don't paint the inside if you want to put a plant in it.

Great question! Yes, you can use it if you use a plastic liner. Most plants come in their own plastic pot, so just pop one in like that. You can remove it for watering. 🥰🌷🌼
Set a coin under each side of the pot to keep it from rolling😊

To separate the layers, put a little glue between your index finger and thumb and press the corner of the napkin. The layers will separate easily.
