  • How could practicing simulated attack and defense be called 'The Art of Peace'? How could training this art create a one world family where everyone could live together in peace?
    And if it does work:
Is the magic in the moves? Or is it in what you're doing, while you're doing the moves?

Nicely done Sensei! This is a dimension of aikido not discussed or understood by many aikidoka.

Michael Baraz Thanks for the feedback and thanks for joining the discussion. I think we agree that these ideas should be discussed and understood more often and by more people.
Any thoughts on how to accomplish this?

Well said, Moon Sensei. Aikido is the practice of being present and active and remembering that nothing is ever personal unless you accept it.

    If you have not
    Linked yourself
    To true emptiness,
    You will never understand
    The Art of Peace.
    Move like a beam of light;
    Fly like lightning,
    Strike like thunder,
    Whirl in circles around
    A stable center.
The Way of a Warrior is to establish harmony.
There are no contests in the Art of Peace. A true warrior is invincible because he or she contests with nothing. Defeat means to defeat the mind of contention that we harbor within.

"Aikido is not for the purpose of defeating other people. Nor is it for gaining victory in a fight, or to conquer in war. It is the purpose of attaining success in the individual mission, which Heaven has assigned to each one of us." O sensei

Really great, piece, Richard. I think the best that I have seen of your work. You are talking about the elephant in the room that most haven't even seen.

"The art of piece"describes the way it is trained, not the final result of learning. And it's not a self-defense martial art, such nonsense does not exist.

"Rush of energy" means demons. We deal with a realm that is spiritual that binds us. We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual wickedness in principalities and high places. Therefore, an attack is that of a demonic nature. What the Aikidoka must understand is, you cannot contain something beyond your understanding. That can never happen. Therefore, putting the techniques in your hands merely is a way of expressing the conflict that we feel in life not in a way of actually dealing with it.
Why is this? We are all flawed. We cannot do for ourselves. If we say we can, we lie to ourselves. We are not the bearers of right and wrong, nor the interpreters. So to resolve in Aikido is meaningless, because we have no idea if the outcome we are seeing is one that is the correct one. Because the guys face isn't splattered all over the concrete we feel as if we love more than a Karate practitioner. No, it merely means the technique is better if you want to avoid that. However, what happens if their head does splatter? I know, I have used it in a situation, and that is what happened. It looked anything but peaceful.
So let's get real here, and truthful. If we cannot trust ourselves and our feelings to keep from getting mad, scared what have you, then training in the spiritual realm is an exercise in futility. We are flesh and blood, and cannot stop time and see what is happening with our partner, adjust and give the correct outcome. And even if we could, could we trust our minds to know what the proper outcome is?
No, that is why there is a God, and we are not him. We are not to be thinking we know right from wrong, or what peace looks like. And certainly we do not want a world full of people who believe they are one with each other and peaceful. That has been tried before with disaster all over it. And in biblical terms, Aikido is following a path that leads to the same place all religions that do not know the true truth leads. Into believing that we have all the answers. That through our intellect, our training, if only everyone knew Aikido etc, would discover the path to being a perfect person. That is impossible. We all have different standards. There will always be a conflict. And that is why you need a mediator between you and God. And that is why the bible is the answer for spirituality. God through Christ.
I have trained in Aikido since 92. And if students came to that realization, they would train only in honesty with the techniques. Train them to work. And feel the nature of conflict and resolution through the techniques. Aikido can protect you, if you focus on that. And that is of God. Let the Holy Spirit handle the spirituality and you have integrity, honesty, truth, and spirituality in your Aikido. And that is something the founder did not have.

I know it's been a very long time since you posted this but why did the founder not have spirituality in his aikido like you say? Is the only spirituality through Christ therefore his attempts were invalid?
