Growing up ive heard the word queer used so negatively all the time. Although i understand that it’s an inclusive term, i don’t use it for myself. It’s like calling myself a f*g
I did not find this video in my subscription box nor did I get a notification when it was uploaded. This isn't the first time this has happened, I'm so disappointed UA-cam. but overall this was a very interesting and educational video I love your channel, keep up the amazing work!!!!
awesome Tyler!!!!, great to see you here. I am a longtime old pal of your dads..he is proud of you. I am too. I remember you as an infant. This is wonderful and I love what y'all are doing. #AlwaysOkayWithGay
i'm really really interested in the uses of queer in current PoC circles especially in terms of the decolonial movement. if any of y'all wanna chat about this, please do hit me up :) x
if you don't like it, don't use it. I'm a 48-year old gay man and I'm fine with it, but I can respect that others aren't. A marginalized community is always going to struggle with a 'label' for itself, especially when we are a wide group of diverse people. 'Queer' is 5000% better than the politically correct and tedious and impractical as hell LGBTQLMNOP22+ acronym that keeps growing every year. Other terms like 'rainbow' community make me want to barf. What are we? Seven year olds? Use what you want but I am proudly queer.
it wasn't glossed over, did you miss the part where its been used as a label, a sense of pride, defiance, and community BY the community, since as early as Stonewall in the 60s, ie the birth of the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement in the US? no one will ever force you to use it but you can't act like it's just something "kids these days" are saying when its been used this way for decades
@@coldbrewcat I lived through that period in London and never once heard that term used positively or it being reclaimed by the LGBT community; quite the contrary. I viscerally remember the vile hatred with which it was used and the often physical violence that accompanied it.
Cristina Ledesma well it was explained how queer has been used historically Then how all the or letters have strict definitions Then a bunch of people talk about what they "feel" that the word queer means. So I guess it doesn't mean anything.
Rapmons stolen jams nah, it doesn’t necessarily mean that. It’s more like a term for people who either don’t conform gender wise or sexuality wise or both. Basically a person who identifies with the lgbt community but doesn’t feel like the term gay (for example) fits them completely. Queer can mean a lot of things, I think it’s supposed to because people want it to be a broader term for non-conforming, kind of like a labelless label. Basically, it means that you’re either not cis or not heterosexual, or neither of them.
so succinct and well put. i love this channel, and i love that shirt. also WHY was this not on my sub page?! I've missed three of these videos now because they weren't there. youtube...
The Q word is like the N word. I don't like it. I prefer intersexual because it is more accurate and direct in addressing the complexity of the human intersexual bell curve. Intersexual is inclusive and is not so generally abusive.
TaesFanboy grayromantic = significantly low romantic interest pan = regardless of gender asexual = varies individually, but i personally experience no sexual attraction to other people
So.... They are gonna talk about a homophobic dude in detail but skip over the fact that stonewall was lead by trans women like Marsha P. Johnson????? Trans folks felt like an after thought in this video when they have been leading the way for rights for the whole LGBTQ2S+ community. I get that this is a video on the word queer, which is more centred around sexuality, but you can't bring up Stonewall without talking about Marsha P. Johnson and making it seem like it was predominately cis folks lead the revolution.

Just because the term is "reclaimed", doesn't mean it's not any less offensive to those that have experienced it in a negative matter.
Agreed.
Also wonder if it is mostly white people and/or mostly people om mainstream media and celebrities who use "reclaimed slurs"?
It's like the N word being 'reclaimed';
Offensive and ridiculous.
@@Neil-DaimondIMO it gives power to the oppressors to not reclaim words like this.

Siv Greyson In spaces I go to it's fine but qpoc down south may say it's bad.
I’m just watching this because two boys came up to me and screamed “QUEER” then walked away
they never asked the older gays actually affected by the word if they wanted to use it
Based on how quickly it was glossed over in this video--they don't care.
alberto gonzález this. Thank you.

I still don’t quite understand what queer means. Is it fluidity with one’s own gender and/or sexuality?
today queer means anyone who isnt cishet
It's a slur
@@ThePizzafire yeah, but many people reclaim it. (I agree that it’s still a slur though.)
I thought queer always meant "strange", at least that's how I use it.
I think one of the definitions that comes up is "weird" or "abnormal," so I guess it's not far off?
Also do not believe anything is "strange", let alone anyone?
This didn't actually explain anything
Skippy Zc I think queer just means gay in general ?? Cause it didn’t define if it was lesbians , bisexual or gay ?
Cristina Ledesma well it was explained how queer has been used historically
Then how all the or letters have strict definitions

Skippy Zc-Queer is someone not identifying as a gender. They dont identify as a boy or girl.

I've never heard of that word before, are you talking about being intersex because intersex isn't a sexuality term
Thanks for the enlightening video. One comment though, if you spoke a bit faster, the video could be , say, 2 minutes.
Can anyone here tell me what the word "squirrel" means? It is used at gay parties.
I haven't heard it before, but when I think of a squirrel trying to get a nut I think I understaaaand
The background music is WAY too loud compared to the narration.
I still dont understand what it means being queer
Helga Lind Same!!
Helga Lind same
It's now used as an umbrella term for LGBTQ+, but it's still a slur when used by cishets(?).
ilu tyler
this was uploaded on mi birthdayyyy
I use the word queer for myself not just as a gay person I'm also a very strange person.
i love your beard!
And what if you are not that strange and/or a "minority" any more, if ever throughout the multi/omniverse?
can y’all do the word masc

Very interesting
JUST TELL ME A SIMPLE ANSWER TO THE WORD "QUEER" FFS 😒😒😒
Used for people outside the colonial normalization of s*xuality and/or gender?
And in the dictionary "weird", "odd" and/or "pervert/se" in Japanese, with "Hen(tai)"?

I'm asking this as a graypanromantic asexual: does the term "queer" also cover cishet asexuals/aromantics?
TaesFanboy
grayromantic = significantly low romantic interest
pan = regardless of gender
asexual = varies individually, but i personally experience no sexual attraction to other people
HardToBeAPoopGod you're an idiot
It can include anyone who's not cishet so...
love hat top.

To me Queer means sort of still deciding and trying out. Can anyone tell me if there is a real word
A real word for what? Figuring stuff out? A lot of people use queer, a lot of people use questioning - whatever you want to use is totally fine!

Is that a guy or girl? 🤔
