We use the Remind App in our city for EVERYTHING! My kid's stay informed from their coaches (I rec'v the same text), teacher's, etc...even youth ministers are using it at church. I'm currently finishing my bachelor's degree and even my professor use the app! It's great! As a mom of three and full time college student...I need ALL the help I can get! Great video!!!
I'm a middle school teacher and I use remind! I love it! I send out reminders to parents almost daily. Because I teach over 100 kids this is the easiest way to stay in contact. Parents can even send you a private message. When I send out a message to parents I can add pics, or voice messaging. I download the app for my phone and I will shoot off a reminder before class is over. Sometimes I'll log in afterschool to send out messages. On my website, I added a Remind widget so it scrolls my messages. Parents have an option to opt into emails instead of messages. I love it!
I agree, working and being a mother is a tricky balancing act. I have just had my fourth child and am loving being on maternity leave. Both my school aged children's teachers use the remind app, I have found it so useful. It truly does remind us busy/forgetful parents!
Nice to see you are back, first weeks of school are just insane! I'm happy your getting your classroom downsized I can imagine how crazy it is to have 36 kids in small room. Thanks for all the tips, very helpful!
36 children puts you in the running for some kind of award! I have 31 grade 4/5 students and they do my head in on some days. 36 would have me racing out the door in hysterics I think. I'm going to see whether my principal would let me use the Remind app. It would save a lot of hassle. Our admin sends out whole-school reminders on the school app, but I'd love some way of communicating that quickly with the parents of just MY babies. Hope your room is back to "normal" soon.
Great video! 36 students... I have 19 in my 2nd grade class. Hopefully by now all the extra students are moved out!! What state do you teach? I teach in Norfolk Virginia.
+Dannydee79 I am in Michigan. Usually we don't have that many students. For some reason we had a whole bunch of them enroll this year from charter schools. They came faster than we could hire teachers!
I am trying the remind app this year. So far I have had seven parents sign up for it. I like it because I can send reminders of picture day, grandparents day, etc. because we know not all of our babies make it home with the typed up info. We are having a parent night this week so I hope to hear some feedback from those already subscribed and get more to sign up.
+Applejack 1522 Awesome. I'd love some feedback on it. Like i said, until my son's curriculum night I had never heard of it so I am really excited to learn more about it.
+Tina Bietler There are several teachers in my building that use it and love it. I forgot to mention it also helps keep your personal number private and parents don't have to see each others numbers like they would in a normal group text.
+Tina Bietler Well we can both learn something new this year. I really enjoy all of your videos and can't wait for a classroom tour when everything settles down.
+Applejack 1522 Classroom tour will be coming in a couple of weeks! +toocoolformiddleschoolblog and I are planning on doing a collaboration! Can't wait!!
What is your opinion on the ESGI program? Have you used it in the passed or do you know any experience Teacher that has used it? I value so much your opinion. Thanks
+Gliced Torres My district does not use ESGI. We use NWEA Mapping. I honestly don't know anything about ESGI. I do love the NWEA tests though. When we first bought into the program I was skeptical but it really is an amazing assessment that adapts to the students levels and is very accurate in my opinion for letting teachers know exactly how they are performing. If ESGI is a similar test where the test gets easier or harder based on student performance (which is how NWEA works) then I would think its pretty good, but again, I am guessing.
+Tina Bietler OK, thank you so much for the information. I will be doing my research on NWEA. I start in my classroom in January; So I am in the process of researching everything I can that will help me be successful in this drastic career change. I am passionate about this path that I am going to take in becoming an educator and I love the videos you make. They give me so much great ideas can't wait to have my class. Thank you again
+Jeanine Lochen It is an app you get through the App Store. You sign up a computer component too. If your parents join using the number and enter your unique user name the app gives you, you can send out a text message with remind and all the parents in your class will get the text, at least the ones who join. It is advertisement free, and phone numbers stay private. It's great for sending out a simple text, "Math test Friday, don't forget to study." and that fast all parents are kept in the loop.
