- Paradigm shift! I did so many different things on this horse intarsia! I bought this pattern and a contouring DVD from Judy Gale Roberts and followed her along while I did this intarsia. Wow! I learned so much! Some new techniques I’ve learned are making sure your pieces are square and removing the fuzzies right away. I learned about sanding shims and how most of the contouring can be done by the sanders. I also tried a new way to trace out the backer board. I also used a magnifying light and foot switch while sawing with my Hegner, Bob.
I really recommend using sanding shims. You can order the DVD or go to Judy Gale Roberts’ website and read all of her intarsia tips!

Hi Cy I'm from India just starting wood work making animal planter . I like your videos
Hello! Thats great!!! Have fun wood working!
Another beautiful project as ALWAYS!!!!!!!
Thanks Curt :)
greetings from Turkey
Greetings :)
Beautiful selection of wood and some great new technics. Thanks Cy! Great work as usual!
Thank you Kerry :) :) :)
That came out very nice, Cy! Beautiful!
Billy
Thanks Billy!!!
Absolutely beautiful!
Thank you Ron :)
Very cool! Can't wait for my first intarsia project
So excited for you!
That looks fantastic Cy. Some really interesting techniques there, will have to give them a try!
Thanks Phill!!!!
WOW, you just get better and better
Thank you :)
Absolutely beautiful Cy! Great job! I find myself using the TB Quick & Thick more often as well. I love it.
I really love it too, it's good stuff!!!
Beautifully done, Cy! Thanks for passing on new techniques. I, too, have the lighted magnifying glass at the scrollsaw. It is so helpful. The blower quit working on my little saw so I rigged up a crevasse tool attachment from the shop vac. Now the dust goes straight into the dust collector!
Thanks! Perfect dust solution!!!!
Wow! Another great project and video. Always learn something new from your videos. The tracing paper for the backer board was a great idea. I’ve also wondered about the sanding shims and your video made that more understandable for me. Thanks for sharing. Love the wood choices!
Thanks Eileen!!!! Yes, these new techniques are great!!!
Uşaqda fərasətə bax! Afərin! 👍👍👍👍👍
Çox sağ ol :)
Love your wood choices. This was my first intarsia piece which I made in February. I never thought I could do something like this, but Judy is an amazing teacher and it all started to make sense. Now I’m totally addicted. Thanks so much for your videos. I love your enthusiasm.
This was your first one? Sweet!!! Yes, Judy is amazing, I hope to meet her one day and take a class :) Thanks for watching and writing :)
Beautiful job on the horse Intarsia Cy! Thanks for sharing the video with us!💖👌👍😎JP
Thanks JP ;)
Your very welcome Cy! Have a great week!😎
Very nice Cy. I love the videos.
Thank you :)
I just love the horse i bought it it will be my first intarsia excited to do it. Your videos are wonderful i 💘 your love and psssion. Also your assurance that it all takes time step by step. Thank you
Oh yay!!! I love this pattern! I'm so happy youre going to make it as your first one!
Wow!!! you skill level has moved up way past the next level. Great project Cy.
Thanks Dennis :)
Your horse intarsia turned out beautifully! I've done this pattern following JGR's DVD and like you it helped me immensely. As far as I'm concerned, the magnifying light and foot pedal are essential to scroll sawing. I couldn't work without either. I hope to see more intarsia and can't wait to see the finished desk.
Thank you :) The DVD was great and so helpful! And the mag light makes a huge difference!!! I have another intarsia in the works and have been working on the desk too. I'm having a blast ;)
GIDDYUP !!! THIS IS BEAUTIFUL !!!
Thank you :)
That was so neat! Just found your channel while looking for the difference of band saws and scroll saws and then your personality made me look at more videos. New subscriber here!
Thank you and Welcome!!!!
Evolving as a wood artist is always rewarding. Your usage of the new techniques is spot on and your horse piece looks terrific. I have a similar Hegner setup with foot pedal etc, and it works great. I evolved in recent projects to double bevel cutting on the scroll saw and most recently cutting pieces with perfect precision on a CNC and then shaping and finishing by hand. It's always fun to look back at how you started tackling the processes to where you have come to with your most recent piece. Keep up the great work and enjoyable videos!!
Wow, that sounds like you have an interesting set up now! Cutting the pieces with a CNC would never give you gaps!!!!
@@CysCorner Wood being wood, you still may get some very minor gaps, but the majority are perfect and the ones that may be out are so minor, you really can't tell. I wrote up some detail of that build here: www.lumberjocks.com/projects/414359 and many more build pictures and some videos of the CNC running here: facebook.com/joel.kaufman.1865/posts/227399231901809
Excellent! Love your vids. Keep em coming!
Thanks Bob ;)
It's really beautiful!
Thank you Jolien :)
Very informative tutorial I have done a few of Judy Gale Roberts patterns not many there is a huge learning curve I am a scroll saw artist mostly fretwork so I have to be a bit more detailed in y'all staying within the lines and making tighter cuts but I like how you broke this down and provided a lot of information I loved how you broke down all the the shaping in the detailing so all in all a very informative tutorial thank you for doing us
Judy actually has a tutorial on this particular piece. It really helped me and teaches a lot more than i mentioned. Here is a link to the DVD if you are interested :) intarsia.com/collections/books-dvds/products/intarsia-scroll-sawing-contouring-dvd-set
Looks awesome! 💕
Thanks Faye!!!!
Señora...excelente su trabajo. La felicito.
Muchísimas gracias :)
Great looking horse
Thank you :)
Outstanding! Inspiring!
Thank you :)
thanks for the great content.
Thank you :) I appreciate that :)
That turned out AWESOME Cy!!! I don't think you could have selected better types of wood to use. What a great way to use up small cut off pieces and that monkey pod really enhanced it. The horse head turned out so life like. I am totally impressed. Horses hold a very special place in my heart so I especially loved this piece. Your skill level is excellent!
Thank you Lori :) I'll have to hear your connection with horses!
very good job,I congratulate you
Thank you so much 😀

OOooh, I like that!!!
Wow! Amazing! 😍♥️👏👏👏👏
Thank you so much :)
I like it horse🐴🐴
Good jod🐎🐴🐎

Thanks!!!! :)
Cy, great project. I have never tried intarsia but might one of these days. Here is a hint for you...when you use spray adhesive to hold a pattern directly to the wood, a really easy way to remove the paper pattern is with mineral spirits. I keep a jar of mineral spirits close by and a foam brush. I dip the foam brush in the mineral spirits and coat the paper pattern. Let it set for a few seconds and the paper will peel right off. A paper towel and some more mineral spirits will clean up any residue. Lay out the paper and paper towels to dry thoroughly before discarding. Another option is to carefully use a heat gun to remove patterns. Hope this helps.
Thanks for telling me this Paul!!! I did this today and it worked fantastic!!!! I don't know if I had heard this before but you reminded me and yay!!! No more hassle with that!!!
very very beautiful your work.
Thank you so much :)

I first saw a 30 minute video, then a reupload. You meant to break it up into parts? Your artwork is always AMAZING! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Hee hee! There was a clip 15 minutes after the end of the video I didn't know was there. OOPS!! Funny you saw it, anyway, had to fix and reupload :)
Its so pretty! *sob*
Thanks!!!
Hi Great video .New to intarsia as i have just retired .I have ordered the DVD as you mentioned From Judy Gale Roberts .It might take some time to arrive as i am in England ! So while I am waiting I will try to order some timber .What thickness of timber did you use ? Many Thanks
Hello, a thickness of 3/4 inch gives you nice dimensions to the finished work. But you can also use thin pieces or even thicker than that. You will discover what thickness you like best as you go. Good luck to you!!!!
Top.
Coolamondo as usual 😎
Thanks Tom :) :) :)
Cy's Corner Hi Cy , that horse 🐴 is beautiful and I loved the verse you used 😊
Hey Cy. Projects look great! What brand/model sanders do you use for your horizontal drum sanders?
I have a Woodtek pneumatic drum sander that is no longer available. But one that is similar is a Grizzly
My smaller is a flex drum, the sandpaper surrounds a foam cylinder and it is attached to a variable speed grinder motor.
Here are links to the sanders and the bench grinder.

Is your foot switch just an on-off switch or can you control the scroll saw speed with it?
My basic Delta scroll saw has some things that bother me. It won't start at the slowest speeds, You have to start it near full speed and then dial the speed down. If you stop the saw you have to do this over again. I also don't like how the knob is located under the table. It makes it hard to shut the saw off quickly if something goes wrong. Finally, it uses pinless blades so you really have to grab the blade ends tightly which is hard to do. I wind up tilting the table to get at the nut and then I have to re-square the table.
It is only on and off, no variable speed with the foot switch. Ahn man that sounds like a hassle. I was always adjusting my blade clamps on my last saw, it was always slipping. I am very happy with my Hegner!
👍muito bom
Muito obrigado :)
Good morning Cy, my question is did you make your own down draft table?
No I didn't make this downdraft table, I found it at a garage sale!
Question how do you get the verse on the back. Tool and technique. Thank you
Hello, I have a few videos on the different techniques for transferring, here you go:

Excellent video, but where do you get the wood from?
I get my wood from a few different sources :)
Hi Cy. Where do you buy the wood for your projects? Thanks
Hello, on my website I have a page that says all the places I get wood.
Here is a link 👍cyscorner.wordpress.com/where-i-get-my-wood/
Hi Cy, what name brands are you sanders? I noticed the one on your bench has a variable speed on it. The other is on it's own stand. I would appreciate if you would share this info on both. Thanks, Richard.
Hello, the smaller variable sander is actually a variable speed grinder. I put the flex drum kit one side and the wonder wheel on the other. The large sander is a Woodtek. I've talked with Woodworkers Supply who carried these sanders and they can't get them anymore. I've referred so many to this Woodtek and about a year ago people were telling me they weren't receiving their orders. So I called and they sadly said they weren't selling them anymore.
But I know of a similar sander and I give that info to folks when they ask.
So I'll collect up that info for you and send it soon.

Thanks so much for the info. You're the greatest !! Richard.
Genial
Gracias Claudio :)

How do You transfer text on the backside?
I have a few videos showing the techniques I use. I will put the links here for you. It takes some practice but you'll get it!

I used Rubio Monocoat, it is an oil wax finish :)
Utilicé Rubio Monocoat, es un acabado de cera de aceite.
