Intarsia of Faithful and True's Horse

- I have an intarsia pattern by Judy Gale Roberts, link to the pattern is below, that I have been wanting to make. I had one board of Aspen and it was enough for the pattern. I did end up making the nostril and eyeball with ebony and the ear with Myrtlewood though. I did a few new things on this project. I used a Dremel to make some hair marks in the mane and smaller hairs around the horses head. And I also prefinished the pieces before gluing everything together. I really like the looks of the wood after applying the finish this way. I will do it that way again.
I found this great verse to go on the back: Revelation 19:11 (NCV)
Then I saw heaven opened, and there before me was a white horse. The rider on the horse is called Faithful and True, and he is right when he judges and makes war.
So I am calling this piece Faithful and True’s Horse. :)

Very , very beautiful Cy's Corner . Wonderful job.
Hugs from Mauro Teixeira - São Paulo, Brazil
Thank you so much :)
Try using the dremel flex shaft and fan blower attachments. The flex shaft is like a pen attachment, which is more of a familiar tool to most people, and the fan blower keeps the dust off your workpiece.
My neighbor just gave me a flex shaft for my dremel!!!!
Stunning as always Cy. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Phill!!!
Love your intarsia projects!! 👍👍
Thank you!
Gorgeous!!
Thanks!
That is truly a marvelous piece.
Thank you Donnie :)
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Chris :)
Love it! Great color!
I love the aspen!
Stunning peace of intarsia 💋💋
Thank you Paul :)
Hi Cy, Great job.! !
Suggest once you put your peel and stick on the board turn the board over and use a knife of some type to trim it then turn it back up. Try tilting you Hegner with a
piece of 2 + 4 or what ever size lets the table tilt towards you so you can see your work easer. Try using 2 pieces of painters tape very close to your blade to make a temporary o clearance table so as to not loose those small cuts.
Maybe try making a holder out of a 2 in. or what ever size works PVC so you can move the work piece rather than the tool.
Joe
Thanks for the tips! I have a zero clearance blade insert for my Hegner, but the tape is a good idea!!!
So beautiful, well done!
Thank you so much!
I like that piece the best of all your work. Great job
@Kim Grannygoodhag Thankyou, it is one of my favorites too. 🙂

Hi, Cy. Love your enthusiasm for intarsia. If you can get an extension for the dremel you will find it much easier. Thanks for your teaching videos. God bless.

The peel and stick is so nice and the saw is soooooo awesome!!!
genial el caballo FIEL Y VERDADERO , hermoso trabajo .------great the TRUE AND TRUE horse, beautiful work.
¡¡¡¡Gracias!!!!
This turned out GREAT!! Nice work with the Dremel. I noticed it was burning and thought "Oh Oh!!" but it actually added to the piece. It kinda looks like shading or something. The Alder came out very nice. Good choice!
Thank you, the burning freaked me out at first!!!!
Bellissimo lavoro complimenti 😀
Grazie mille!!!
Cy,
Great work and it's always fun trying new techniques as you evolve into your own workflow. I have the Hegner 22 and it's a beast. I'd definitely recommend a foot pedal into your setup. If you plan on doing more carving and detail work in your intarsia pieces, I'd also recommend a rotary carver that has a small carving handpiece. Holding a Dremel for long periods of time is difficult and working around curved already shaped pieces is challenging with its size.
Always look forward to your videos!
Great to meet another Hegner owner, I know a few now!!!! I may look into the foot pedal, not sure about the carver though......maybe!
Beautiful work Cy! Thank you for sharing the video.👍😎JP
Thanks JP :) :) :)
Your very welcome Cy!😎
Hi Cy, You are going to have to get some air masks for Gibbs and Wally to keep them safe. Great intarsia pattern and very well executed.
Thank you, I wonder how they would tolerate those....hmmmm
Another beautiful project! Glad you liked how it came out coating the individual pieces. I got the gel from Woodcrafter. I also heard it is available at Lowe’s but I haven’t looked there yet to confirm that.
@DocEE Hey! I tried it because you said you liked it so well! I have looked at Home Depot, Lowes, and a painting store. They had some but they were all colored, no clear. Thank you for sending me a little jar, I am excited to try it out!!!
Nice job! I appreciate your videos because I run into some of the same issues that you encounter during projects.
It's good to know it happens to others!
Look's good.
Thank you :)
BELLISSIMO
Grazie mille :)
Love this Cy!! I took an intarsia class with Judy this May 2019. I learned so much and I will share an OPP with you soon. The hair can be made by a wonder wheel. Judy sells it and it attaches to a standard grinder. Thank you. Ps. Judy also sells the wipe on gel poly in that is tinted white that will not yellow.
Awesome Jim!!! A class with Judy would be soooo awesome! I look forward to seeing your work. I know about the wonder wheel and will look into the wipe on poly, I didn't realize she sold it!!! Thanks!
Beautiful horse intarsia, Cy. Check out a jeweler's vise to hold the small pieces while sanding/texturing. They come in hand held or clamp-on table top versions. They are easier on your hands than trying to keep a solid grip with a pair of pliers. Hope this is helpful. God bless!
@fryefoto Thanks for the info on this little vise, I will check into it!
Good job 🐻🐻🐻
Cool wood👍🐻👍
Thanks again Jason!!!
wow that turned out really pretty . as far as the dremel gos i would go to harbor freight or you can get them on amazon and get some mini carbide bits . they are kinda like little drill bits and you will only use more then likely the largest of them but for ten bucks there worth it and you will find them great to have on hand for small detail work .
Thanks! Good to know!!
It is amazing
Thanks Robert :)
Awesome
Thanks!
Such a pretty pattern. Great outcome. Would buy this if I had monies!
Thank you :)
I enjoy your work, and I love your enthusiasm! You make people want to jump right in, and try something! I think you should invest in a Foredom flexshaft machine, so much quieter, and the smaller hand piece makes it easier to control. The speed is controlled by a foot peddle, so you can vary speed as needed. Also, try some small "ball" burs for even your Dremel, you can drag them along to make those lines as well, without them trying to get away from you.
Thanks, I am glad I can be enthusi-ating! I do have some small round burs for the dremel, didn't think of them!
@@CysCorner The biggest advantage of the flexshaft over a dremal type tool, besides the ones mentioned, is the wide variety of burs and different hand pieces that can be attached. I carve waxes, and mostly use 3/32 shank burs, designed for the jewelry and dental field. The one I particularly like for "hair" or "lines" is a knife edge router bur. look at Gesswein Tools, when you have a minute.
Dremel makes a holder for the tool which can be clamped to the work bench so you can hold the project with both hands for better control
Thanks John, I just googled it and it looks pretty handy!!
Wow Cy the piece is supper realistic. You have grown so much as an intarsia artist. Did you just lay the main above the ear or did you put some kind of a backer to raise it above the neck? I always enjoy your videos.
@Gerald Shultz Thank you :) The one piece of mane is sitting on top of the horse, the rest of the mane is sanded very curvy to create depth. I did use a riser piece on the dark eye, but that was the only piece.
Hey Cy, great intarsia project. about holding small pieces, I made a simple vise out of a $8 screw clamp. easy to make and I find it can hold piece of any shape, and can hold strong or delicately, and I can change angles of holding easily. I did a couple of videos on it. search "otb vise" to take a look if interested. takes a little practice to adjust the jaws using 2 screws but after a while it gets easy. I love mine now and use it a lot. BTY, I love watching your videos even though I have never done an intarsia. Must be those cute dogs :>)
@Russ Veinot Thanks for the info about this vise you made, I will check it out! Yep, must be those puppies o' mine!!! ;)
ive done intarsia for over 20 years, love it, you did a wonderful job, if i may ask, what are the steps you took to add the saying to the back of the project?
Thank you :) I have a few videos showing the different transfer techniques I use. Here is a link to them. ua-cam.com/play/PLRyBXMS_0BNBIQnIttXetA1e3W2DNJEdt.html
another fantastic video, and the finished piece looks stunning, I like you do not have a wonder wheel, and have wondered what to use, the dremel is a good substitute I had not thought about, how long did it actually take take to complete the piece.
Hello, it took me about 20 hours or so. :)
Hi Cy,
Wonderful video and great work, congratulations. How thick is the Aspen that you used on the horse? Thank you very much!
Thank you, It was about 3/4 inch thick :)
Excelente su arte gracias por compartir seria lindo que se tradusca el idioma para aprender😂
There should be a way for you to translate it from your end, it would be subtitles that may not always be accurate but could be accurate enough!
How does the new scroll saw compare to the Excalibur? The Excalibur is hard to beat when you are cutting at an angle.
@Harry Ragland All I can say is this saw is like non other that I have used. I used the tilting arm on my Excalibur once so I won't miss that feature!
Where do you purchase your wood? I'd like to buy some bundles but I can only find small pieces for pen or bowl blanks or full size boards in narrow widths.
We have many places to go to for wood here in Oregon. There are many lumber places so I get my wood locally. Lumber mills have cut off bins that they let people rummage through for free, it's garbage wood for them but some pieces are rather large. There is a place in Florida called Peeples Exotic Wood, he does ship and has a lot of different species at good prices. Look them up, it may be worth it for you!
bellissimo
Grazie !!!!

Acaba hayvan resimlerinin testerede kesilmeden önceki çizilmiş halini bilgisayarda hangi programı kullanarak alıyorsunuz. Rica etsem programın adını söyleyebilirmisiniz?
Merhaba, kendi kalıplarımı yapmıyorum ama yapmak istiyorum. İnsanların desen yapmalarını 2 farklı şekilde okudum. Biri Glass Eye adlı bir program, diğeri Adobe Illustrator kullanıyor. İyi şanslar!
