A few days ago I ordered the same one you listed. 🔥. I have a M2 MacStudio but needed a system for full-time Editing on the go. This M4 Series is something incredible.
Never owned a Macbook. I went for 14" M4pro, 48Gb Ram, 2Tb ssd and nano texture as im always on the go! I hope i made the right choice. Hopefully if i dont like the nano texture they will excahnge within the 15 days :)
@peaxz9125 i went into an apple store to check out their Mac displays, side by side, and the nano texture was mind-blowing. Colors were still sharp and detailed, but It cut out all the harsh reflections from the overhead lights. I figured with 1000nits of brightness I shouldn't have a problem. I'll definitely check back here on November 19/20th once I receive my laptop and let you know :)
@@peaxz9125 On LCD it is very good, OLED has minor contrast loss but still a worthy trade off for a small mobile panel. Just don't compare it to "matte screen protectors" like some, go see it in person on ipads or M4
In dim light, the nano screen is barely noticeably less contrast. You'd have to compare side by side and even then you'll barely notice it. In bright light, the difference is immense. About 90% of the reflections and glare of the standard screen are gone. It's really amazing.
Great Job Matt with your comparison! You make it easier to understand for new Mac users. I have gone from Windows to Mac and love it. Already have a Studio and recently purchased the MacBook Pro M4 16" (48 Gb RAM 1 TB memory) which will be delivered in about a week from now; first Mac laptop. Enjoy your videos!!
Impressive video, especially your point on the M1 models! It’s refreshing to see such balanced advice that doesn’t push unnecessary upgrades. Tech can be overwhelming, so clear content like this is a big help for viewers.
Thanks Matt! I came up with the perfect rationalization to upgrade my M3 Pro 14", I need/want the larger screen. The wife bought it and I get the benefit of the larger screen along with all the other upgrades.
I'm looking to get a new 16in MacBook Pro. The entry le3vel M3's are now on sale for $1900 compared to M4's $2500. I'm wondering if there's a significant difference and worth the investment in the M4? thx!
My M4 MacBook Pro 14 inch arrives this Monday. 24 mb ram 1 tb hard drive. With thunderbolt 5 supported I can add extra external fast storage as I need it.Should be great for photo editing.
Lovely comparison video. Quick Question - I'm getting a 16 inch 32 gb Ram M1 Max renewed at amazon for 1760$, is that a good deal? My main use will be coding, I want to do some of my own projects
M1 Max user here w/32GB RAM and 32-core GPU. It’s been a fantastic machine, but not without hiccups. I’m a voice actor and audio producer and I’ve made the RAM work for every meal between producing some larger projects and my multi-tasking habits. Considering shelving it for a family member or selling it in exchange for an M4 Pro 14” (been wanting to downsize from the 16” for a while) with 48GB of Ram or potentially the M4 Max with 64GB to give me some more headroom as my business grows.
Great video! I have the 16 inch M3 Max 48GB, I do a lot of heavy 4K video editing and animation as its my career, and the M3 Max has been great so far, but I thought maybe the M4 Max was a lot better perhaps in performance? With greater GPU memory bandwith? Why I was thinking of upgrading and perhaps even going for the 64GB version. But if I will notice little to no difference than perhaps I stick with the M3 Max that I have? Or do you think with what I do I will notice a difference upgrading to the M4 Max?
I'm still running a 2017 15" MBP and will soon upgrade to a MBP 16" M4 Pro. It's finally time to bite the bullet. I wonder if my old MBP is still worth anything.
Didn’t think I’d be upgrading anything but lately I’ve been really starting to notice my 16” m3 pro’s weight, and Best Buy is offering me enough to make it almost an even trade to the base model m4 14” pro (I worked for Apple when I bought the machine so I’m technically coming out with a profit considering my discount at the time)
Love it! I'm doing just the opposite! Have the 14" and going back to the 16". Last year it was about portability and this year it's about screen size (at least that's what I told the wife 😉!)
I am a student and i currently use macbook air 2015, in the near future i will require more power and performance for rendering and programming. So i am upgrading to macbook pro m4, any opinions?
I still have the Mac Mini M1 and the iPad Pro 2018. I likely will go onto the 5 year cycle that Apple will be using. Apple upgraded the iPad Pro in 2024 so I may upgrade there. I will likely wait until 2025-26 to upgrade my Mac Mini to Mac Studio or Macbook Pro in 2026 when Apple will have their major Macbook Pro cycle upgrade to OLED. My Mac Mini right now is just fine for me till then. Right now I am not sure I would need Apple AI. I use ACDSee Pro on my desktop PC and turned off all AI features (really slows my INTEL Alder Lake i7 despite having 64 GB RAM).
Could you do a review on which M4 chip is most ideal? For the general user, not heavy duty work. I need to get a computer but am confused on what I need vs what is available. Thanks for the video!
General user should probably wait for the M4 MacBook Air or go for the iMac if portability is not important. You could also get the base spec of the MacBook Pro if you want more ports and a better screen. 16 GB of RAM is enough for the general user but you could always upgrade to24 if you wanted to future proof a little more. 512 GB SSD should also be fine as you can always add your own external SSD at a later date. M4 Pro and M4 Max are definitely not for the general user.
I'm running an M2 MacBook Air with 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD. I'm debating on going to an M4 MacBook Pro with 24GB RAM and 1TB SSD due to the fact I'm doing school soon for networking and cloud.
I have a 16 gb + 1 TB MBP from 2013. I wonder if it's finally time. (yeah.. it's time.. the M4 finally seems like a convincing leap.. but now I can't decide between M4 Pro and M4 Max.. my MBP was very high end 11 years ago.. it's a question of whether I'm going to keep the new machine for 10 years or upgrade after just a few years.. I prefer the former)
Will probably upgrade to M4 Air next winter…then upgrade my iMac for my desktop setup. Unless…I can get used to using a MacBook Pro as main driver both on the go and on my desk.
What I'm having trouble with is getting a new and shiny M4 Pro(perfectly good for my workflow) or an M3 Max with 40 core GPU (overkill but technically more powerful in multicore and graphic workloads)
Nice video, I just upgraded from an M1 Air to an M3 Air a few months ago because my brother needed a MacBook, and he got my M1 Air. Pretty pointless upgrade because it ran great and had 16GB ram, and the M3 Air that I have only has 8GB ram. Sad that they didn't make 16GB ram the base amount when the M3 released.
So i should get the rectangle in side the other rectangle. Got it! 😂 Seriously though, if we are looking for a deal for a 5+ year supported ownership, should we then be considering m2pro 16gb and m3pro 16gb?
I'm not going to be manipulated by Apple marketing, the 2017 or newer MacBook Pros don't need an upgrade, the 2020 or more recent M1 MacBook Airs don't need an upgrade, and the 27-inch 2017 or newer iMacs don't need an upgrade (RAM can be added for less than $30) Mac mini 2018 recommends upgrading due to its low graphics performance, which is unable to run the Mac OS Sonoma wallpaper smoothly people who have intel macbooks who travel or who do not have access to an improved socket will be a good idea
