My first too! Coming from a Dell XPS 15. I went with the 14” M4 Pro 14/20, 48 Gb RAM and 1TB SSD. I went with the standard display as I was concerned about reduced contrast and detail clarity for photo editing with the matte finish.
Just FYI I ordered the exact same configuration but in silver. I have a M1 Mac Air and the M4 Pro with 48 GB / 2TB seemed like a solid upgrade that will last 4-5 years.

I bought the base model. M4, 16GB Ram, 512 SSD. My old HP laptop has a 9th-gen i5. It’s my first new computer in almost 5 years. I’m more than happy with it.
The external USB drive you're advertising is USB 3.2 gen2x2, which is NOT SUPPORTED BY ANY MAC AT 20Gbps! You'll be limited to 10gbps unless you pony up for a Thunderbolt/USB4 version.
My 16" M1 Max with 64GB ram is still rocking just as good as the day I bought it. I think I can wait it out another year or two. M1s are just too freaking good. Would definitely like to see a real world comparison to M1 Max vs M4 Pro though. Not just benchmarks.
Well if you need 64 GiB (or more) of RAM, you need the M4 Max. That's unfortunate, because many software developers do need lots of RAM and CPU cores, but wouldn't need the extra GPU cores or video decoding/encoding HW.
Good point. I’ve been looking at configurations and find that Max to unlock ram over 48gb annoying. Am I the only one who leaves a lot of chrome tabs open and still want to run other apps that need RAM? :)
48gb is plenty for the vast majority of software dev. If you need more than that you are doing something that would be better to do while SSH'd to a server. Either that or you need to convince your project manager to move off Teams. In that case, God help you
@ Haha, Teams. If 48 GiB works for you that's great. We're a 400+ people software company, with over 50% of developers using Macs (mostly MBPs), and 64 GiB 1 TB with as many cores CPU as possible is our default, only to be had with the Max chip. Some are thinking to go 128 GiB, as that's our default for Linux/Windows 16-Core Ryzen PCs, but because the upgrade price is outrageous I don't see that happening except for very few specific workloads.
Very sound advice. I hit the wall in a couple of apps with the M1 Pro and was ready to upgrade. I passed on the M2 and M3 versions. The M4 is a definite upgrade. I also went for the unbined version and upped the memory to 48g while I was at it. Something tells me that AI will be a big memory Hog as these apps develop and evolve. Far cheaper than the M4 Max and best bang for my buck. I will upgrade to the M4 studio whenever they come out from my M1 studio.
I upgraded earlier this year from a 2018 15” MBP to the baseline M3 Pro as a refurb from Apple. No regrets and while of course I love the new ones, not on my agenda to upgrade for several years
A lot of good information here. I pulled the trigger on my first Mac, an M4 MacBook Pro with 16GB RAM, 1TB Storage, Space Black. The plan is to move my current PC Laptop contents over and effectively retire my PC laptop. This means saying goodbye to Windows (personal anyway, work gear has to be on PC) and changing my software choices for video editing. I might end up with Final Cut Pro on that score, though it doesn't look like it will be able to write to DVD or Blu-ray destinations.
I use an M2 air base for everyday stuff, and an older 2021 M1 Pro and really only use it for music production. Both laptops are still running just as good as the day I bought them.
I ended up ordering a M3 Pro 14" model refurbished for a bit cheaper and very excited to get it! Hoping the extra GPU cores and extra fan will make a difference vs the base M4 MacBook Pro. So excited, should be coming later this week! I'm coming from the M1 Air, especially excited for that amazing mini-LED 120Hz display! Plus I'll actually be able to really play some games on it!
For me the best combo seems to be a Mac Mini or Mac Studio with an iPad Pro since I do a lot of sketching and need the Pencil Pro and do my main video and photo editing on desktop. A laptop is kind of in the middle not fulfilling completely either use for me. I will still try to wait until maybe 2026 when maybe Apple will finally upgrade the iPad Pro to where it is a complete laptop replacement. Apple seems to be going to a 5-year cycle with their products so I will too.
The one big issue for buying a lot of SSD storage is that some tools will not work with external connected drives. For instance I have a very large Microsoft One Drive for business. One Drive does not work with external drives. Dropbox and many others do, but not good old Microsoft. That dictates a large SSD for me. Combined with the inconvenience of having an external drive for lots of video to lug around. Everything else you provided was good advice but SSD size has to be carefully considered. Yep Apple is charging too much.. but that is the way it is.
I’m probably gonna get the M4 Pro, 48GB of RAM and 4 TB of storage. While its probably overkill I want no question of future proofing and its not that difficult of me to justify paying 5k if it can last me 10 years. Personally I would love to get 8TB of storage. For those wondering I simply want to not worry about storage whatsoever.
If getting base m4 chip, might as well wait for Mac air. Cheaper, Lighter, screen size is perfect, for me at least, at 15 inch. Fanless. You will lose out on a few pro features like 120hz and mini led etc
I purchased the M3 Pro MAX 48Gb upon release last year and that was a mistake. I needed more RAM but wanted it immediately. If you want to run LLMs with 70+ billion parameter LLMs, then you really need the 128 GB RAM. For that reason, I am purchasing the M4 Pro MAX 128 Gb with delivery expected 11/22.
The price really isn’t bad considering the competition. Probably by the time they add those things it’ll be more expensive. I’m surprised they didn’t raise prices this year
Finally a reason to upgrade from my M1 Max MBP with the fully spec'd chip and 32gb memory. I went with a 16" M4 Max (16" purely because of heat and throttling - unfortunately), and 128gb memory and the fully spec'd chip. I think this thing is going to fly. Nothing in between made sense for me to upgrade my M1 Max though... so I'm happy to upgrade this year.
@ I maxed it out with 8tb. I still have a number of NVME RAID enclosures daisy chained via Thunderbolt 3 on top of that too. I have so much data in high res photo/video it’s ridiculous.
I have a 2015 (Intel) 15" MBP that's having problems. The battery (its second) is way up on its cycles and way down on capacity. Besides that, the battery has swollen and warped the case. Trackpad has been acting up and shuts down occasionally. Time for a new one. Your video has helped me decide: MBP M4 Pro 1 TB 14 Core CPU/20 Core GPU; 24 GB RAM
Went with a specced out MAX cause I want to keep this thing for the long haul. Owned my last pro for more than a decade, and I'd like to do the same with this. I edit 8K video, so the more horsepower the better. Did opt for jus the 2TB HDD cause Thunderbolt 5 is going to be blazing fast, plus, as a filmmaker, it makes sense to relegate different projects to different SSDs.
I hope to test the popular configurations in the future: M4 pro 14CPU + 48GB RAM + 1TB and M4 MAX 16CPU + 64GB RAM + 1TB. What will the battery life be like when M4 MAX turns on low power mode?❤❤❤❤
Have you considered that the fact they raised the base to 16GB RAM across the board implies that Apple Intelligence is much more of a drag on the RAM at all times and thus increased RAM at all levels is necessary? and 16GB won't be "good enough" for everyone anymore
Agreed. And they can't really test it now, because Apple is rolling out AI sequentially over the coming months...Apple goes in multiples of 8 GB, so 16 GB was next step. But does that mean that AI needs the full 8 GB or less? I am having the M2 with 16 GB and feel I need more (Xcode & Co). But 24 GB might not be enough due to AI ...
I'm going to deactivate this Apple intelligence, I don't need to make bunny emojis merged with cucumber and I don't want AI to summarize my emails to me, so I'll save memory 🤣
These machines are so good now. I feel the only thing stopping people from buying them is just program and game availability. So many people I know want one but have to get a windows coz it has 1 game they want to play or a program that they need for work (like revitt) is only on windows.
I am currently on my new base model M4 MacBook Pro. So far, I have been able to play war thunder with 0 lag, run code faster than my old intel processor and much more. Apple doesn't disappoint. I will probably upgrade my storage since I was in a rush when I pre-ordered mine.
I do not like the idea that this guy gives recommendations on the devices that haven't been shipped yet. Who knows, maybe they have issues with cooling, maybe M4 is too unstable or faulty, maybe the screen hinges are too weak. I know Apple strives for the highest quality, but they had unpleasant f-ups in the past
I know, Apple Silicon is a known entity and so is the 3nm lithography process. Mac Mini is the only form factor upgrade and its cooling is more than adequate, considering the same chip is running without a fan in the iPad Pro.
I would agree with you for the most part if Apple was releasing a significant upgrade like the jump of a new chip such as intel to silicon, however, this is the 4th generation of these chips, and the rest of the machine is relatively consistent overall compared to the last few years across macbook pros, macbook airs and ipads. In addition to this, I believe Apple have a 14 day return/refund policy and consumer law (at least in AU), so overall, there is minimal risk on the consumer side.
I'm a musician and eventually want to use it for live performances with minimal latency. I'm on the fence because on one hand the M4 may well suffice for the task, but on another hand apps that are used for real-time audio like Live Ableton apparently don't do much with efficiency cores at all because they aren't really well fitted for the task. So a 4/6 p-core/e-core ratio feels like ass for that purpose, while 8/4 ratio of the M4 pro seems to make a lot more sense. What do you guys think?
Still on a M1 Max, I upgraded and future proofed It and it literally works so well I don't need to upgrade. I am def gonna hold out for the M5 before deciding to upgrade.. as much as I want the black color way.
Would love to see what the M4 Max can do in the 14" chassis compared to a 14 inch M4 Pro. Am also interested in seeing the performance in "low power mode" compared to older models without low power mode turned on. This imo is where it will excel as a travel editing workstation, being able to do long bus or plane journeys without eating the battery but having great performance.
Ain't that a shame, if I got my I-pad pro m-4 13"1tb and the 2 magic things before I bought launch nov 20, 2020 of M1 I'd have to trade in the M-4 i-pad pro for my 8/8 gpu 16gb 1 tb MacBook (G) Air. 🤣
Watching this on my 15' MBP mid-2014 i7 16gb 512gb.. I just love it, I do video and photo editing and it works great, but it's time to upgrade as I want to try some new programs that won't run on Big Sur.. Guess I'll be buying a 16' M4 Pro 24gb 1tb! Thanks for this video 🙌🏻
Last time I had a Mac, it was an old 2011 iMac I used until around 2017-ish. I've been thinking about a Mac since they switched to their own silicon, it may be the time.
i bought a 14 inch M3Max 14 C cpu 30C gpu with 36 gb ram and 1TB ssd and i love it.. it has 2 prores encode/decode engines over the single engine on the M3pro and the same goes for the M4 pro and max.. so if your video editing i would say get the MAX chip it will be worth it especially if u make money creating content...
That’s why I bought the M1 16” MacBook Pro: I knew it was so good that I wanted the most time with that form factor .. no regrets I love it and even have the M1 iMac too
Great advice in this video. I have the 14 in base 1TB model in space black. My first Mac. Occasional light video editing, managing my digital music collection, the photos and videos in iCloud, web browsing, email and a little messaging. From what I've seen the Apple ecosystem with the MacBook looks amazing.
I've been seriosuly considering upgrading finally, but my issue is my current M1 Pro 16-inch MBP. This thing has been an absolute beast, and still is....
smart decision, well I have all the necessaries (G) unbinned 8/8gpu 16 gb 1 tb. but I'd probably take a base with all the mess since m-2 and what I mostly do. always keeping a tight grip on it but probably get a MacBook I-pad combo full touch screen 18" foldable even if its not the most powerful. Cause all you need is a M-chip. I like it better than my 13" m-4 I-pad pro 1tb even. W/both magic things and this cost $1,000 more, maybe the 5 watts thing? don't know but it's the best thing I've ever bought, the M1 air. Have a 15 PM too.
Please test these machines outside in bright sunlight. If I can work outside with this new display, I will upgrade 😊 Thank your for your hard work on these comparisons!!
I bought the MacBook pro m4 max 14 inch here are the specs that i chose: Standard display Apple M4 Max chip with 14‑core CPU, 32‑core GPU, 16‑core Neural Engine 36GB unified memory 1TB SSD storage
I always buy the base 16 inch pro model. Cheaper in the long run to just trade in everything 3-4 years and get the latest base 16inch pro than to plan for longevity.
Great Video! But I have got two small questions remaining: - Does it make sense to upgrade the ram to 48 to prepare for the future (I am planning to use the mac as long as possible - maybe 10 years) - Is thermo throttling a big problem for the M4Pro 14C on the 14 inch model? Thanks in advance!
I think it’s a waste to upgrade to 48gigs of memory, 24 will be good for years to come. I have seen UA-cam videos that show more memory is actually a hinderance. We don’t know if there are throttling issues until the machines come out and get tested.
@@otwer22 How is more ram bad?? The excess is just not used. Arguably the only bad thing about it is if you bought more than you use, then you just wasted a bit of money on nothing.
@@Dejf depends what you’re using it for, Lightroom says 16th is recommended from then for optimal performance yet Iv seen tests that it can use up to 20gb at a time, I just ordered one with 64Gb to cover my ass as I plan to have this for years (current laptop is 10+ yrs old) I’m a buy once cry ones guy, rather spend the extra now to cover my ass than in 3yers have to look into a new laptop because the new programs are using far more memory/gpu’s etc than I anticipated. Thank you Max for that tip on getting the 16" Pro Max option instead of the 14" if the _true_ performance is expected. I was actually contemplating between the Pro with 14/20 and the Max with 14/32, but I was thinking 14" because of the portability. M4 Pro is sadly limited to 48GB on the Macbook pro, where as on the macmini, it does support 64GB... if you need the memory, you have to buy an M4 Max, and you are obliged to take the larger SSD and extra GPU's Damn apple ! And... why no 10Gbs ethernet on the mini? I have 10Gbs from my swiss ISP, but the ethernet port on the mini can't cope with it.
hey there! just a quick tip, since computers are lasting longer, please don't forget to add the m1 benchmarks in the comparison =) most of us that want to change have an M1 but trying to compare our perfromance form a m3 or m2 benchmark is quite hard :D thanks agian for the great videos!
Question: for me the most important thing is an absolut quiet MacBook (Music production). You were mentioning, that the 16 inch MacBook has bigger fans. Do you expect, that a 16 inch MacBook Pro with the pro chip (not the Max chip) would be cooler and quieter due to the bigger fans than a 14 inch MacBook?
Before watching your video I'm thinking of getting a MacBook Pro with an M4 pro chip (base variant)....and now I'm thinking of upgrading the M4 pro chip to (14-core CPU/20-core GPU) But my question is I will not be upgrading the SSD from 512GB to 1TB will it be a hindrance to its performance capabilities Note : - I don't know my workload I just need a device that can do anything that I throw at it. I'm new to Apple/Mac devices this is going to be my very first Apple/Mac device or product
If you need the storage, turn your old machine into a file server. Install Turnkey File Server or something, and take advantage of very cheap SSD pricing
I ordered it with M4 Pro Chip base variant. The problem is that once you upgrade to higher tier, you'll start thinking of the next tier. Don't overthink it. You probably won't notice the difference at all. For that money, you can buy some Mac accessories.
@@TeodorPetrovic7 Same here.. Exactly what im going through. I got the m4 pro chip base varient too and seeing everyone say to get the "upgraded" one... But im mainly using it for pen testing/coding/ having a few VM's so i dont really need the extra gpu cores
Thanks for great video. There are rumours that Apple will release Macbook pro with touch display and apple pencil for Macbook pro. Do you think is it true? It would be great to have such option.
Creative Professional who blew a bag on a M1 Max in 2021 and it's still throwing punches at everything I throw at it. 4k video editing, graphic intensive work ! Save some money buy a previous version M series laptop unless you absolutely need this new shiny machine.
M1 and M2 machines are way overvalued (at least in UK/EU). We're talking 3 to 4-year-old machines with mileage to match, soldered-on storage and hard-to-replace battery. Scrapping all 8GB models obviously, as they were meant to be the e-waste they are, those that were upgraded to 16-32GB or RAM are hard to come by, and they tend to cost 65% of the new M4 models. Example: street price for an M1 Pro 14-inch with 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD is £1500, its new equivalent is £2500. In other words, you lose 3 years of useful life (probably its best life too) for a 35% discount. The right price for used M1 macs now should be £400 for base M1 and £600-700 at most for Pros. We're nearly a grand out of whack. Sadly, the fact that new PC laptops are also overpriced sh*t doesn't help.
@@user-iq334 Depends on how much you value time. Businesses buy absurdly expensive workstations based on the h100 because that thing just crunches through numbers like nothing else, so for any sort of R&D work, that high price tag is well worth the time saved.
Thanks Guys! Great run through! Last year it was about portability this year it’s about screen size. At least that’s the excuse I gave my wife😂! M4Pro 14/20/24/1TB arriving the week of 11/18. Looking forward to the performance increase and larger screen!
It's a contradiction to say you don't need the M4 Pro but then proceed to list all the limits of the M4 Base. The real question is, do you need the "base" (14-Core) M4 Max with 32 GB of RAM, or is the M4 Pro with 48 GB the way to go for $400 less? That will be a popular question, so "Thanks!" in advance!
I'd like to add that for folks who plan to use DaVinci Resolve intensively, one should plan 2 GB of RAM per GPU core to avoid swapping. Of course, we have not tested this for the M4 yet, but it's true for M1 to M3.
Hi - great video, thanks for the detail. I've just subscribed. I have a question. I'd like a 16", purely because I prefer a bigger screen. I definitely don't need the Max. I think Pro is correct. Are there any differences to the advice for the 14" configuration that the video mostly focused on? Thanks!
Great Video. I currently have a 16" M3 Max, 40 core, 64 Ram, 4TB. I want the nano screen technology so going to upgrade. I was considering downgrading to a 16" M4 Pro, 20 core, 48 Ram, 4 TB. I'm not a high end complex computer user, but I hate the dreaded spinning ball. Never had that once with my M3 Max, but I don't use a fraction of it's capable power daily. Thoughts? Go to a M4 Max or M4 Pro . Not worried about the CPU on M4 Pro, more worried about max 48GB Ram, and 20 core GPU. Thank you
Already ordered a M4 max, do i need the max? According to this video probably not but have the money and I call it future proofing. I’ve always brought the best i can afford and it’s served me well so far so i see no reason to stop.
Hey! Great job with this. Felt like you were talking to me lol... I think I'm the 16" M4 Pro guy. Making money editing, but not huge productions. Coming from an OG M1 13", so I feel like this'll be a great move. I do have to use some AI tools (mRotoAI, Topaz, etc) so I'm hoping to get something that won't get in my way, but won't murder my finances. Cheers!
I would appreciate tests using “Paralles Desktop” and running multiple operating systems at the same time. Will the internal bus speed make a difference?
Capacity is the much bigger deal there. That's where the 24GB in the base M4 Pro model will run circles around the 16GB in the base M4 version. Most VMs recommend no more than half the system's memory dedicated to the VM, so that's 8 GB vs 12 GB, and you're leaving your Mac a bit more RAM to work with to process Mac tasks while Windows is running.
I’m thinking of doing a trade in and getting my very first M4 Pro machine and the only configuration I would do is go to 48gb ram and leave the SSD at 512GB with everything else staying the same
I have just ordered the Samsung 5K monitor at a great price for my 16 M1 Pro as I will have more use for that than a new Macbook. When the time comes were I am going to need faster speed or more memory than the 16GB in my Macbook I will be buying the M4 pro MacMini with either 48 or 64GB memory.
As a Motion Designer for the worlds biggest brands I've been waiting for this one. My current MBP is a M1 Max with 64GB ram and I will be upgrading to M4 Max with 128GB ram. I've always had a laptop and a desktop. I am hoping that this new MPB will finally kill the desktop. We shall see! P.S. yes I need all the RAM!
I'm upgrading from m3 pro to m4 pro because, frankly, I'm a sucker and I have absolutely no valid excuse for it. My not really valid excuses are my current machine runs at 80-90% ram usage at all times, but this is practically completely irrelevant because the ssd ramcache is fast enough you literally could not tell if you're overusing ram in practically any scenario. Gaming on it is super cool though if only more games were available.
What about re-sell ability? I opt'd for the M4 Pro 14c/20c/24GB/1TB not because I do anything that needs it, but I feel like it would be easier to resell down the road.
Don't make Mistake #11 : getting the Sabrent 2TB drive Max Tech is promoting You can get a USB4 enclosure that's twice as fast , with a replaceable NVMe SSD for less to similar money
Still have an i9 2019 15” MBP that I use as a daily driver. I do 2D autocad and automation programming and it still runs like new. I’ll probably update to an M4 PRO soon.
I’m more patient. I will wait for your testing. Also don’t forget the security vulnerability built into the hardware. I am very excited about all of the new generation laptops. If I’m going for Windows I’m waiting for Windows 12 late next year. I would want my full ten years of support.
Which model or upgrade will statisfy the following requirements? I have a 15-in 2018 with 2.9 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i9 and Radeon Pro 560X 4Gb Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB and 32 GB 2400 MHz DDR4 Ram with 1TB of storage.
Great video as always. Also, please make a video on whether you should buy the M3 Macbook Air right now or is it worth the extra money to buy an M4 Macbook Pro (have to buy this month itself).
Based on what I saw so far, M4 would fit 99% of users and pros, M4 Max would aim more specific niche who needs high demanding CPU or GPU calculations and M4 PRO would be kinda "The sweet spot for both worlds". M4 Ultra would be really redundant and waste of money.

Just upgraded from the M1 macbook pro to the base M4 MacBook pro. Excited to see the difference.
Please can u say same m4 macbook pro with 512gb is enough for video editing?
In that case, God help you
Such deliberate positioning by Apple, but happy with the higher Pro chip and 48Gb RAM. With the swap memory it'll be absolutely fine.
"many software developers"? Speak for yourself. Many of us don't need 64GB or more lol.
Just ordered M4 Max with 64Gb, future proofing as I don’t upgrade every few years, my current laptop is 10+ years old and want this one to do the same
how much?
Same. My 2015 MacBook pro is finally having hardware problems and slow driving a single 4k display.
16 inch?
Same
Stupid move. For that money you could probably upgrade every other year to the cheapest entry level and benefit from all the newest innovations.
still watching this with a 2018 intel mbp 13.
Mid 2015 15" here haha
Mine just died 🥲
M1 Air 😅
Time to upgrade
I’m upgrading from MacBook Pro, 15-inch, Mid 2014.
Have chosen the following specs:
- MacBook Pro - 16-inch - Silver
- 16-inch Liquid Retina XDR display
- Standard display
- Apple M4 Pro chip with 14‑core CPU, 20‑core GPU, 16‑core Neural Engine
- 24GB unified memory
- 1TB SSD storage
Are you me?
I got this but with 48gb memory
M4 pro 14cpu 20gpu with 24Gb of ram is absolutely the sweet spot.
I'm tempted to upgrade, problem is my M2 pro 16" is still running great. 😂
I think a trade in for this year’s gen is awesome… longevity wise.
Port generation is up to date… ram upgrade ( unless yours is 16gb n above! )
I would wait for those with oled displays
@@vasilisvita when you know about pixel burning on OLED displays you really don't want that kind of panel for static content
This is utterly confusing. I suggest you drop the ‘don’t think that you’ and just state the freaking facts man! 😂
What do you recommend buying, a new m4 or a m3 pro with a discount?
if it's the m4 (non-pro) go for the m3 pro. it will have 18gb ram and an extra fan inside. also, on geekbench the m3 pro slightly outperforms the m4.
@@nasimahm3d Thanks for your advice
If getting base m4 chip, might as well wait for Mac air. Cheaper, Lighter, screen size is perfect, for me at least, at 15 inch. Fanless. You will lose out on a few pro features like 120hz and mini led etc
Screen is nowhere near as nice, speakers not as nice and missing ports.
For the price, No WiFi 7, no tandem OLED, and no Face ID. I’ll wait but I’ll also watch the videos
Nothing in between made sense for me to upgrade my M1 Max though... so I'm happy to upgrade this year.
how many ssd did you get
@ I maxed it out with 8tb. I still have a number of NVME RAID enclosures daisy chained via Thunderbolt 3 on top of that too. I have so much data in high res photo/video it’s ridiculous.
Thank you for the awesome review! For someone who hasn’t gotten a new MacBook since 2012 this was super helpful lol
I’ll wait for the M7 because my M1 16GB 512 MacBook is still working fine with 94% battery life. OpenCore will push me to the M7.
Mine has reduced to 82% so that's why I am considering
Just use power adapter
i thought about to do the same but i broke the screen.. repair cost about 700-800$
Went with a specced out MAX cause I want to keep this thing for the long haul.
Just did the same thing, future proofing
I hope to test the popular configurations in the future: M4 pro 14CPU + 48GB RAM + 1TB and M4 MAX 16CPU + 64GB RAM + 1TB. What will the battery life be like when M4 MAX turns on low power mode?❤❤❤❤
Have you considered that the fact they raised the base to 16GB RAM across the board implies that Apple Intelligence is much more of a drag on the RAM at all times and thus increased RAM at all levels is necessary? and 16GB won't be "good enough" for everyone anymore
That’s what I was thinking! I’m very curious to see how much ram will be used and if it will equate as having 8gb of ram
@@rezidtv honestly it's very overhyped. Cant see too many useful cases unless they completely make grammarly and github copilot obsolete to me

Please compare base M3 Pro vs base M4. Base M3 Pro on Apple refurbished is currently same price as new base M4.
@@jansix4287 It seems like it for sure. I plan on buying mac mini on m4 pro as well
I would agree with you for the most part if Apple was releasing a significant upgrade like the jump of a new chip such as intel to silicon, however, this is the 4th generation of these chips, and the rest of the machine is relatively consistent overall compared to the last few years across macbook pros, macbook airs and ipads.
I am a programmer. M1 MacBook Air 8gb quite enough for me for all my work
Ain't that a shame, if I got my I-pad pro m-4 13"1tb and the 2 magic things before I bought launch nov 20, 2020 of M1 I'd have to trade in the M-4 i-pad pro for my 8/8 gpu 16gb 1 tb MacBook (G) Air. 🤣

But I have got two small questions remaining:
- Does it make sense to upgrade the ram to 48 to prepare for the future (I am planning to use the mac as long as possible - maybe 10 years)
- Is thermo throttling a big problem for the M4Pro 14C on the 14 inch model?
Thanks in advance!
I think it’s a waste to upgrade to 48gigs of memory, 24 will be good for years to come. I have seen UA-cam videos that show more memory is actually a hinderance.
We don’t know if there are throttling issues until the machines come out and get tested.

Save some money buy a previous version M series laptop unless you absolutely need this new shiny machine.
It is a good thing though that Apple Chips are getting better and better.
Worst advice ever. The jump between m3 and m4 is huge. You actually wouldn't save money.

Could you make a video on which iMac configuration to buy😊?
I’ve always brought the best i can afford and it’s served me well so far so i see no reason to stop.
what do you plan on using it for?
Cheers!
I would appreciate tests using “Paralles
Desktop” and running multiple operating systems at the same time.

Thank you very much for this video! Would you recommend Apple matte screen cover for $150?
Don't make Mistake #11 : getting the Sabrent 2TB drive Max Tech is promoting
You can get a USB4 enclosure that's twice as fast , with a replaceable NVMe SSD for less to similar money
Going for a Silver 14” M4 Pro/14c CPU/20c GPU/48GB/1TB. Undecided about nano-texture.
Planning to buy the 16 pro 48gb ram . 👍🏻
