You ought to check out some "Dark Souls Pacifist" videos. There's a couple that explain how to pull off large amounts of the game without killing. Thanks for watching 😀
I wonder if it is possible to finish 1st place on every mario kart track (wii or gamecube) without touching any object boxes, I know some tracks could be interesting, such as the DK sumit on wii, where it seems not possible to avoid boxes before the canon, so having another racer in front of you to pick the box to clear the way could be a strat.
Beating the original skyward sword without having Fi talking to you. It was so annoying that it has been fixed in the HD version (you can mute Fi) maybe by getting out of bounds you can avoid Fi triggers
map the mouse movement to a wii balance board (meaning you have to aim with your feet and your weight distribution over the board) and beat a sniper FPS game

I'm thinking the failsafe isn't in case you didn't buy the pack, rather it just equips the right pack for you so you don't have to stop in the climactic moment to change your pack.
@@AlryFireBlade Yeah there's a similar failsafe where Ratchet can travel into outer space without needing the O2 mask, simply because the game doesn't check if the player has the mask, assuming it would be impossible to reach the level without it (It was a randomizer mod)
@@mar_speedman yeah alot of the eariler Ratchet games just assumed you wouldn't be at that point of the game without it (although skipping 02 mask is impossible), like also in R&C 2, the game would assume you have upgraded the Heavy Lancer and use it on cutscenes regardless if you had or hadn't.
I doubt it's intended as a failsafe. It's probably just the devs auto equipping the Thruster Pack and just assuming you'd already have it, because why wouldn't you?
Ah, it might be auto-equipping the thruster pack in-case a player had the heli-pack equipped. Might have found out that it helps heli-pack loving players remember how the buttons work during testing, or maybe just since it spawns you into a timer and they didn't want fussing about in menus to ruin the tension.
I think the best part about this is that your name literally IS NGPlus, but the moment you see a speedrun that’s NGPlus only you decide to do it base game. lol
I just realised something. Normally, back in the days when the games were made and tested before shipping, they would test all sorts of movement and stuff to see if the game can handle it. I am very sure all these new speedrun techniques were never tried back in the game testing phase. What i am trying to say is that i am surprised that these glitches and tricks don't crash the game. Or put the game in a sort of loop out of which you cannot recover. And this goes beyond R&C of course. So many games being speedrun these days, i watched many videos, i never seen any speedrun technique that crashed the game. Makes you appreciate how sturdy the games were made.
I agree with you, however, there are a couple of times I've seen a speed runner explain that a certain trick is too fast and will crash the game. But considering it's only a couple of examples, you are right.
propap why its hard to find speedrun tricks that crash the game is bc glitch hunters dont tell about them bc there is no reason. there propaply are a lot that do crash the game, but only glitch hunters know about them.
the movement in the old RaC games is very fluid, and made to be like that, which plays a part in making a lot of the movement chains used in speedruns possible, as you can chain together momentum really well (see mid-air longjumps, where you cancel a sideflip with momentum into a longjump, those show how "forgiving" (for lack of a better term) the movement was coded) though there is definitely a lot of sequence breaking / skipping stuff that one would expect to cause crashes, like using ratchet in a semi-dead state to infinitely longjump across a level at insane speed and skip a bossfight by just collecting the infobot behind a closed door
The reason why the majority of glitches don't break the game is because most of the time it's just the game functioning according to the code it has, like how negative speed works in SMB64 giving you more speed just because you're still below a certain positive number, the code works, just not how the devs wanted
Just stumbled on this video, I had no idea someone from outside the rac1 speedrunning was the one to find ng packless. Major props dude! The dedication is insane and I wanted to thank you for this major achivement (even though the category looks awful and I'll never run it lmao). Just going to add that it's actually possible to get those gold bolt packless without the PDA, the one on pokitaru requires divebomb which is a pretty tricky glitch where you get it while in the ship fight and the other ones can be reached through clips and movement pretty sure. You don't need to use the thruster pack in the drek fight if you kill him fast enough, eg using the RYNO, which leaves the final button after the fight to press
@@AimlessSavant I was able to do it. You just literally spend no money an any gold weapons, or ammo and grind collect bolts. I’ve done that one every R&C game.
The reason you had the Thruster pack (TP) on Veldin 2 is likely because the boss fight was constructed early on in development, the same time the first part of Veldin was made (or the level where you obtained it wasn't made yet). So they were probably just testing the fight by giving Ratchet the TP and just didn't bother to remove it (as they figured the player would already have obtained it before the fight). Therefore, the player has it regardless of if they obtained it or not.
I think it's more likely that just in case you were using the Heli-pack and you preferred it. The devs didn't want you to pause the game and switch packs as to not ruin the tension as it happens in the middle of a long boss fight

Wow, this was amazing. I appreciate all the effort that went into this. I was wondering the whole video how you'll get past the final boss. Didn't expect the game to be so generous lol
Whenever I find interesting videos about this masterpiece of a game I get flooded with excitement and nostalgia, I enjoy watching these so much. And so worth the sub btw
I've always been impressed with self-imposed challenges/challenge runs, especially ones that seem like they're impossible. This one really impressed me a lot! You even ended up creating a literal new speed run category for this game! Big props for not giving up on this challenge even when speed runners told you it was impossible!
Another awesome video! I can't wait to see what you come up with in the future. On a side note, I still feel that game companies should use speed runners as beta testers for their games as they seem to find all kinds of unintended bugs post release 😀
I think the only problem is that speed running contains a lot of building off of each others work. I mean, if you look at portal, new discoveries are made seemingly at random. Even here, years after the release new things come into play, so it wouldn’t really work to have certain speed runners test the game out. I also feel obligated to mention that people normally dedicate themselves to a game, with hours upon hours of practice to pull off skips consistently
Fun fact: QA actually does tend to find most if not every bug that exists in a post-release game, but producers do not usually task devs with fixing bugs that don't halt gameplay and/or will not be seen by the vast majority of players (unless there's still time and budget to do so after all of the important bugs are fixed). Of course, this only really applies if there is a normal amount of QA involved in the dev process, which may not be the case with RaC given that it has a history of being forced into crunch and short time windows.
They say that necessity is the mother of invention. well I say that obstinate refusal to accept something is impossible is the mother of new strategies, in speedrunning and in life
You are SO underrated!! I absolutely love Ratchet & Clank, it seriously brings me joy to see people still doing challenges! (I also saw your Spyro video) your videos are right up my alley! Subscribed 😁
12:20 A long time ago on the ps2 edition of this game, I accidentally discovered you can crouch after letting go of the swingshot and slide briefly in mid air. It doesn't always happen though and I don't know if it works on any later versions of the game.
This is impressive! I was constantly intrigued with how you bypassed some of the game's obstacles with tons of glitches. Never imagined this would be possible until now, so glad youtube decided to recommend me this video lol
I had no idea Ratchet and clank has a speedrunning community, nor would I usually watch a long video on a classic game, or even a speed run video. But it was soo well made and interesting I had to watch. Especially the "fuck you" to the speed runners and did the impossible anyway!
WOW!! Good job! I'm a big fan of R&C; Grew up playing all of them. My first reaction to your challenge was "nope" because of the final boss fight but that built in fail safe blew me away lol!
This was awesome! I really appreciate your editing and this was an entertaining playthrough to follow. Never thought it'd be possible from the lack of movement options at the beginning! Nice job!
Thanks for putting in the time and effort to figure this stuff out and make a video. It was very enjoyable to watch and congrats on overcoming this challenge

Whenever I find interesting videos about this masterpiece of a game I get flooded with excitement and nostalgia, I enjoy watching these so much. And so worth the sub btw
Thank you, I am attempting a RaC2 challenge as well :)
@@NGPlusVideos 👀👀👀
I've always been impressed with self-imposed challenges/challenge runs, especially ones that seem like they're impossible. This one really impressed me a lot! You even ended up creating a literal new speed run category for this game! Big props for not giving up on this challenge even when speed runners told you it was impossible!
One year later. I just checked the speedrun website, and there is currently one run listed for this at an hour and 25 minutes. You made that possible.
Thank you, it's a crazy thought
Congratulations for the wr of the first packless ever
I always loved the PS2 Ratchet games, even Ratchet: Deadlocked or whatever. They were all fun for various reasons.
I love them as well. Here's hoping PS Plus Premium adds them to PS4/5
@@NGPlusVideos I would love that, as well as porting over the Jak and Daxter games
finding out and finding a situation where you *need* that failsafe against drek is very impressive.
Another awesome video! I can't wait to see what you come up with in the future. On a side note, I still feel that game companies should use speed runners as beta testers for their games as they seem to find all kinds of unintended bugs post release 😀
Speed runners/glitch hunters could finally make a living off their efforts too. Thanks again 😁
Of course, this only really applies if there is a normal amount of QA involved in the dev process, which may not be the case with RaC given that it has a history of being forced into crunch and short time windows.
you are a menace to speedrunning society
I was waiting for one particular moment this entire run, and oh boy what a plot twist!
The ending?
@@NGPlusVideos Of course!
They say that necessity is the mother of invention. well I say that obstinate refusal to accept something is impossible is the mother of new strategies, in speedrunning and in life
Congrats on creating a new goddamn speedrun category for R&C.
I played this game since it came out and apparently I have no idea how the game even works. The stuff and areas you find is crazy
I used to play the Ratchet and Clank games so much when I was younger. Just seeing you play it made me want to dust off the old ps2!
My man is out here changing the game, I'm so here for it
This was awesome! I really appreciate your editing and this was an entertaining playthrough to follow. Never thought it'd be possible from the lack of movement options at the beginning! Nice job!
Much higher quality than I anticipated! Liked and subbed 👍
I really was fascinated by how glitchy the trilogy is, it's a reason why i love it so much, great video make me want to play rhe first game again
Thanks for putting in the time and effort to figure this stuff out and make a video. It was very enjoyable to watch and congrats on overcoming this challenge
Thanks a lot, it's what I do. I'm glad it was enjoyable, and I hope to improve as I go too :D
fucking incredible, like i saw a unicorn in the middle of a battlefield, wow, incredible, this game was my childhood
Man looking for a youtube content created a new speedrunning content as well as skips… man I commend you for your dedication
Damn... This man really isn't packing 🙂
These challenge runs are so well done. I hope more people see them! I've watched a couple, and so far the Metal Gear Solid one is my favorite.
wow. just amazing. the amount of dedication and patience you must have to do this is incredible. immediately subscribed!
The amount of subs you have is criminal
Thank you so much! Considering we had less than 200 Subs before November, the fact that we have gone up over 1,300 Subs in a month and a half is insane to us, and we still can't quite believe it. Suddenly there's pressure to make sure the 6th video is good!
"Thats impossible"
"Aight, Bet"
This maybe something need to be done and you did it by been the person who got the job done this is a massive respect you massively need it
i love that he never got to upgrade the ship🤣
Absolutely fantastic work. Your strat hunting intuition is top class.
Homeboy really just came in like a wrecking ball and did what speedrunners said couldnt be done
They are the ones who show how its done
I can't believe after all of that a button was the one thing stopping you from a pure packless run
... I'm almost scared to ask what a "Boobs%" speedrun is.
This was really cool and fun to watch, the amount of patience you have is unimaginable, love the video! Definitely subscribing!
"You see, this part requires a helipack...... so I just clipped through the wall"
Alternate title: Can you beat Rachet
Definitely got a new subscriber. That was a great challenge video. You even discovered new stuff while doing it which is insane.
Thank you, I appreciate it, I suppose I earned the title Strat Hunter now 😅
Walking and swimming at the same time? Wow, I'm more surprised you just presented Schrodinger's Cat in gaming form.
surely this is schrodinger's lombax
this has become one of my favorite channels virtually overnight. awesome content man, thanks!
Well I don't know what to say. Thanks a lot for that 😅
@@NGPlusVideos no problem. Love the challenge runs. Mgs is my favorite series so the no steps run video was awesome for me, would love to see something just as off the wall for mgs 2, that's my favorite in the series.
did man just destroy a speedrun block-wall out of spite and came out on top? nice.
packless any% all gold bolts. that sounds like an amazing speedrun catagory!
Ratchet defeats Derek by spawning a thruster pack out of the ether through shear force of will.
