Let’s not forget to be amazed at the original artistry and all of that gothic detail…. I don’t know where to start with your indescribable talents to bring this piece back from the dead! I don’t think my fingers could have been pried from the throats of the transportation company if this was mine! Carving new claws???? New ornate dowels???? Good grief but my jaw kept dropping!!!!! Just purely GIFTED you are! A true artist!!!!! God given talent! Thank you for sharing ❤

What a fantastic concoction of chinoiserie. The dragon (male), the phoenix (female), the pineapple finials, pineapples for hospitality, the 18thC dolphin, and the elongated stylised swirls representative of Chinese depictions of clouds. Thanks for restoring a most unusual piece, and saving it for posterity. Well done.

There are no degrees of uniqueness. A thing which is unique is one of a kind. Never say “ it’s very unique” or that was “much more unique”. It was, or it wasn’t. That’s it!

@judeirwin2222 Your lesson in the constructs of the English language and my use of it, (although accurate), is neither applicable here nor solicited. I am/was expressing my sincere appreciation of not only the piece of furniture and its construction and beauty, but more importantly the man who restored it to it glory (through traditional methods) and his gifts, talents and work ethic. I was not posting my comments for an English lesson and/or to be critiqued. Should I choose to, in the future, sign up for your English class, I will contact you.

@@karencooper9185 Dude you didn't get it? Grammar and what he said.. it doesn't matter what language you use to say it. the message in the proposition.. is the same.. wrong or right.. no matter the language used.. So you better start learning the grammar in your language first then use another language.. Because he is quite right.. that you don't know what Uniques definition means. Unique means is one of a kind.. and there is no comparation with anything..when it comes to talk about any unique object/thing.. Period. Do not get frustrated when someone is trying to teach you the right way of saying something..and say thank you for it. and That's it.

Ahti, I can believe why you were asked to care for such a magnificent piece of furniture....ART. I was glued to the screen during the entire process and the love and care you showed that beautiful hall mirror/vanity was unmistakable in the way your hands moved around the piece. Skillfully, artfully and masterfully. I hope that the moving company had to pay through the nose for your time, etc. I would love to have a piece like that. Also your commentary was just too funny. Your one liners are getting better and better my friend. Thank you for allowing us all into your world to see what beauty comes from your hard work!!!

That is one of the most amazing pieces of furniture I have ever seen, that definitely was in some very elegant estate at some point in an entry, the tray for the visitors cards, that would have had a crystal inset at some point I am sure. The work you did on that? AMAZING. You saved a beautiful piece of history. The carving and details on the dragon, the bird and the dolphin or fish (on the far bottom right), its just exquisite and that you were able to restore the pieces missing and even the claws - there is no end to your talent and skill. I would love to know the backstory on the piece! Where it was made, where its from… just amazing. In addition to your master craftsman’s skills you must have the patience of Job as that fine detail not only took amazing skill, it took a lot of patience as well. Thank you for yet another wonderful video!

The creature in the corner on the bottom right is a dolphin. There are quite a few similar representations of dolphins in 18th century European art. My best guess as an former art historian (not a furniture expert!) is that this was made mid- to late-18th century. I say this because at mid-19th century "chinoiserie" was all the rage in France and Rococo was still in favor, and other European artists and furniture makers followed suit. It is interesting to see some of the Neoclassical elements coming into the design when Neoclassicism generally didn't become "all the rage" until the 1770s and 1780s. So that's why I say later 18th century. Of course, I could be entirely wrong and this could simply be some 19th-century furniture maker's mashup! There was a lot of that going on in the second half of the 19th century.

OMG! What a wonderfully unique piece of furniture to have the movers destroy it was tragic. The restoration job you performed on it is outstanding! Your attention to detail is stellar as you dismantled what was left intact. Cleaned and restored all the carvings and filled cracks where needed as well as replaced veneer that was past the point of restoration. The way you recarved missing or lost sections was performed with a lite touch with respect to the historic nature of the piece. Use just enough stain and finish to blend all your hard work away as if no damage had ever happened. A stunning piece of furniture I would be proud to have in my home.

In hindsight the owner must have secretly been glad that the moving company broke it. You went above and beyond by even repairing things that were already broken prior to the company's involvement and restored them to their original condition. Your craftsmanship is truly remarkable!

    You're like a jeweler!
    Master with a capital letter.
Such an old object, there is no longer any hiding place!
    I understood,museums give you
    these things for restoration,
because the inhabitants do not have such goods!
    Cool!
