What a fantastic concoction of chinoiserie. The dragon (male), the phoenix (female), the pineapple finials, pineapples for hospitality, the 18thC dolphin, and the elongated stylised swirls representative of Chinese depictions of clouds. Thanks for restoring a most unusual piece, and saving it for posterity. Well done.
That is the most unique piece I've ever seen....what an amazing opportunity for you to showcase your phenomenal restoration skills on. BRAVO yet again. Much as I appreciate the skill and artistry of both the original craftsmen and the best furniture restorer I have ever seen, I wouldn’t give this thing house room. Is over ornate dust magnet too harsh? I endorse the museum option!
Ahti, I can believe why you were asked to care for such a magnificent piece of furniture....ART. I was glued to the screen during the entire process and the love and care you showed that beautiful hall mirror/vanity was unmistakable in the way your hands moved around the piece. Skillfully, artfully and masterfully. I hope that the moving company had to pay through the nose for your time, etc. I would love to have a piece like that. Also your commentary was just too funny. Your one liners are getting better and better my friend. Thank you for allowing us all into your world to see what beauty comes from your hard work!!!

Not exactly "my cup of tea" but I can still appreciate it for it's beauty. Simply an amazing restoration of which the customer must have been ecstatic.
That is one of the most amazing pieces of furniture I have ever seen, that definitely was in some very elegant estate at some point in an entry, the tray for the visitors cards, that would have had a crystal inset at some point I am sure. The work you did on that? AMAZING. You saved a beautiful piece of history. The carving and details on the dragon, the bird and the dolphin or fish (on the far bottom right), its just exquisite and that you were able to restore the pieces missing and even the claws - there is no end to your talent and skill. I would love to know the backstory on the piece! Where it was made, where its from… just amazing. In addition to your master craftsman’s skills you must have the patience of Job as that fine detail not only took amazing skill, it took a lot of patience as well. Thank you for yet another wonderful video!
The creature in the corner on the bottom right is a dolphin. There are quite a few similar representations of dolphins in 18th century European art. My best guess as an former art historian (not a furniture expert!) is that this was made mid- to late-18th century. I say this because at mid-19th century "chinoiserie" was all the rage in France and Rococo was still in favor, and other European artists and furniture makers followed suit. It is interesting to see some of the Neoclassical elements coming into the design when Neoclassicism generally didn't become "all the rage" until the 1770s and 1780s. So that's why I say later 18th century. Of course, I could be entirely wrong and this could simply be some 19th-century furniture maker's mashup! There was a lot of that going on in the second half of the 19th century.
Absolutely beautiful restoration. I love to watch restorers like yourself bring life back to fragments of history like toys, appliances, furniture, or in this case an artist’s handiwork! I have high respect for your craft good sir. Please continue saving these beautiful bits of history.
