Restoration of the WORST TABLE

- This table was made around 1950´s and somewhere in the 1990´s it was painted white, to hide all the problems. My goal was to restore it to its original glory. Tables like this are highly appreciated today and they cost around 700-1000€ when restored.

Title: Restoration of the WORST TABLE
I'm owner of this table. Originally it belonged to my grand-grandparents. I have grand memories of spending time behind it with my grandfather and sharing grandmother delicious meals with all others. Now it is in my home, with the story behind it. I'm truly happy that I could resist temptation to do it my self. Ahti did a great job and I believe that otherwise it would have stood in my barn for several more years. Anyway, this table has sentimental value to me and is great Christmas present to my own family.
In times of 1950s the vast majority of people can't afford solid hardwood furniture (after II WW). Actually I believe that it was not even possible to by new one. Because of all that nationalization and focusing only to mass production by Soviet Union.
If this was your great grandmothers table, then why would you have it restored so completely? I would feel that the damage is part of the charm, filled with memories, and would only have it partially restored to functionality to show its age.
Such a gorgeous table. With this stunning and thoughtful restoration this can now be a piece handed down for more generations to come. May many more memories be made and enjoyed by your family around this very beautiful table!
Gorgeous table!
So happy that you have a piece of furniture to share good times today around. Hope you make many happy memories for you and your family at this table.
@@martinvho What a strange comment. If his Great Grandmother were alive, what do you think she would prefer? Of course, she would like to see the table as good as the day she bought it new.
The way that it kicked and screamed and refused to open for more than one person in the beginning is EXACTLY how I feel when my family drags me outside to spend time with people. I felt that, little table...I sure did. LOL

The fact it comes with a free nail is all the reason needed to buy it.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Best comment! You win!!!
😅

Oh my goodness........... patience is golden.
I was cringing when the veneer removal started.
Hours and hours of hard work.
Well done
The table was free, with the purchase of a nail.
I can hear you now telling your wife, "I can't come now, dear. I'm ironing the furniture!" Excellent job. The table looks really great. Looking forward to your 2023 videos.
The work you do is absolutely amazing, I don't believe I have ever seen anyone who has done any furniture restoration as well as you can. I always look forward to your videos.
Couldnt agree more Alex.
Have a look at Thomas Johnson Antique Furniture Restoration! He is from Maine, USA.
Also look at John's Furniture Repair, out of Canada - 2nd generation, amazing work
Couldn’t agree less I’ve seen way better
The restoration you do are expensive and time consuming, but I can't argue with the results. You are the best restorer I've ever seen.
I saw a better one today ;)
@@ATRestoration Don't play down your skills and dedication. Every restorer has their specific skills etc which shows once the final product is restored. This was a fantastic revival.

The quality of your work is extraordinarily. It is so nice to see furniture restored rather than being discarded.
That came out beautifully! So many people think painting a piece with damaged veneer will improve things. Instead, it makes everything so much worse, making the veneer bubble and lift, crack and break or chip. You took it right back down to its starting place and made it as beautiful as it ever was. Bravo!
Happy New Year!!🎊
I agree, it should be illegal to paint antique furniture!
I think we should remember that the person who painted it probably did that instead of throwing it away, and it's because of their choice that the table is here to restore.
@@BrooksMoses
I think we should remember not to paint broken veneer.
Sometimes we do the best we can with the information and resources we have at the time.
Maybe painting was the best option they had at that time. Today we have access to more information and options in restoring and reviving antiques.

Thank you for another engrossing video. Your patience is matched only by your skill.
Boy that table brought back memories. My dad had cut one of those down to make a coffee table in the mid-1950s that's still in use today. I cannot imagine how long that took you to get the old veneer off. Thank you for memories of my childhood. This was beautifully done. 💖
My Grandmother had a worn out kitchen table. I never gave it much thought, till she had it refinished by a real master. You are recreating memories for your customers. Your best one yet!
That's great, it must've looked so beautiful!
Love the “grainy” footage! Thanks for another fine video, and thanks for all the videos this year. I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that you are a small but important part of my life and you made 2022 better by sharing your time and talent with us. Happy 2023!
Thanks Angelino!
Well said!
Always look forward to seeing Ahti's videos.
@@btmalo6817 Thanks. And that goes for my exchanges with engaged and fun commenters, too. Happy new year, BT.
Also, thank you for not playing that ghastly elevator music that so many good videos are spoilt by. We can just concentrate on your work.
A handsome and fully functional table that I'm sure will be cherished for generations. Beautiful work!
I watch a number of furniture restoration channels. Yours is the best. I am impressed with your thoroughness and competence. Most all of you guys excel at matching colors. That's something that takes the quality of your work to another level. Thank you for all the lessons and techniques I pick up as I watch. Happy New Year!
@harold Choate you probably did not watch the channel of @Thomas Johnson Antique Furniture Restoration
@@Akin_Cakin Yes, I watch Thomas Johnson. I agree he is excellent but AT is more precise and his degree of perfection is just a notch higher. Both men are very good and I would be happy to have 1/2 of their talent. Happy New Year!

Beautiful: the snow, that table after you finished it, and that stunningly stacked wood shed. Scary: how close you get to your fingers with that iron. Sometimes I get the urge to call out, "Be careful!"
When I first watched you working on this table, I thought it was not worth all the effort. The result was absolutely worth it.
Beautiful work. The little brass brush to get the deep set paint points out is a good tip!
Thank you for not giving up on a project like this... many would have stopped when they saw the condition under the original vaneer.
This just proves that wood furniture can last many lifetimes if repaired and cared for!
If there were a contest, I think you would win the award for the most patient person who has ever lived.
Since I found your channel, my weekends are more enjoyable with this range of talents that you show us as a master of restoration. I've been watching the videos and looking forward to the next one. The Internet connects us with such unusual places and people and your work has allowed me and so many admirers to get to know you a bit. Congratulations! And a year of many joys and blessings for you! 🌷✨
Thanks Monica and Happy New Year!
@@ATRestoration you are so very right, monica! i'm always looking forward to AT's new videos. happy new year to you and to mr AT in tallinn. thank you so much!
What a beautiful table! You carefully fixed it and put it back together like someone setting the table for a festive feast! Thank you for sharing. ❤

Thank you for rescuing that beautiful table Ahti! I love the little hand-turned buttons that match the wood grain. One of the small details that make your restorations works of art.

Watching your videos, there's always that feeling of inevitability that the finished product is going to look spectacular, whether its the most humble chair or the fanciest wardrobe.

Another epic job. The end result looks much better than the original paint job would have.
Every time I watch a video, it's like a master class in restoration.
Gorgeous!! You do beautiful work!!
Beautiful renovation!
Beautiful work as always 💖
Ahhh you've done it again maestro! Another ugly duckling turned into a beautiful swan. Thank you for these wonderful restorations - I have learned so much from these, and enjoy all of them. Have a happy and prosperous New Year.
Oh it looks so awesome! I loath painted furniture. What a fantastic transformation.
Wow - superb restoration!
That was quite a journey, but the end result is gorgeous!!❤
QUÉ ENTENDERÁS TÚ..!!!!,
That table is beautiful. Another terrific job!
That was some beautiful work! I love seeing old things brought back to their former beauty.
My late father loved working with wood, and he would have been very pleased with this excellent restoration. Well done indeed. 👏 😊
Thank you for sharing your video. Very beautiful restoration, I love your results. I hope you and your family had a merry christmas and hope for a happy new year. God bless you and your family.
Wonderful work as always, what a fantastic little table it turned out to be.
With leaves it was 1.8 metres long, so not very little ;)
@AT Restoration well then just a nice table, my grandparents had a similar one.
Just that the leaves had brass pins and it had corresponding brass lined holes in the table.
Beautiful and inspiring work as always. Watching you work brings me joy. Thank you.
You made that table look Stunning!
Amazing transformation! Your skill is evident in every step of the process :)
I love how you refinished that table. Always great watching you work. I sincerely hope you had a great Christmas and now looking forward to the New Year. Stay warm in all that new snow. Thank you for sharing your projects throughout this year. It's been great watching them and learning some great tips along the way. See you next year!!!!
A stunning transformation!!!! Bravo!!!! Happy New Year!!!
The care that is given this work is fascinating. I am transfixed and can't stop watching every second of the video. It is like seeing the dead brought back to life.
Beautiful job! 😍 At first glance I thought that table is far too gone to come out anywhere near decent...but Blimey! You cracked that one! I've subscribed and until your next miracle is uploaded I'll be watching as many as I can of your previous videos as possible. I love to see the trial and error parts too.. It's all about learning and improving as you go along. Thanks for a very relaxing twenty minutes. All the best from London. X
You'll find a ton of great old videos. Our Estonian magician.
@@susank4878 I know I've watch a few since I left this message a couple of hours ago. Great stuff! 😁
You never disappoint...another stunning restoration. BRAVO.
When I started watching this, I thought there was no way it was worth restoring because it was in such bad condition. But you showed me. It looks incredible.
This was so satisfying to watch! Man restoring this must cost a lot but it's so good for the environment to fix the old rather than just trashing it and buying new. I love a good ol' rebirthed furniture!
You have created a wonderful one again. As usual, he made that old table look like new. Congratulations and Happy New Year!
What an amazing restoration. Thank you for sharing.
This would pair nicely with your WWII chairs, each piece having its' own story to tell. Bravo sir, you're a master.
We have one of these in a village house. Never thought they could be so beautiful!
Beautiful work, as always! My favourite part of your videos is where you take everything apart - and then put it back together in the end :)
Oh my gosh, that table is gorgeous. So much work but so beautiful!
You poured so much care and love into that.. it was a joy to watch ...here in South Africa on new years eve morning... happy 2023...
Beautiful workmanship
This table is absolutely beautiful. I am in awe of your talent in redoing veneer.
Happy New Year to you and your family.
You did a wonderful job here, Ahti! This table came out beautiful! Again, you are an artist.
GOAL ACHIEVED!! MAGNIGICENT! Breath-takingly beautiful. As a child of the 50's, it makes my heart break to see beautiful, re-usable furniture like this table, being trashed and dumped. We live in a throw-away society and have not yet RE-LEARNED to Waste NOT, want NOT.

Beautifully restored so satisfying to watch you bring such an old an damaged piece back to a magnificent piece of furniture that will now survive for many many more years.
NO ENTIENDE DEL TEMA, SOLO HA FORRADO LA MESA.
You turned a ghastly white painted table into a very elegant table. It is now beautiful! Beautifully restored. :)
Hard to believe that it’s the same piece! But, of course it is, because your projects are always amazing. Never miss one of your videos and often watch the old ones. Plus, who else uses a laser in one project, and a humble household iron in the next? Stay well, and a wonderful 2023 to you and yours! 🇨🇦💕
WOW now that is a beautiful round table that I would be happy to own. You do such great work and glad to see that you also use the old tools as well. I don't like painted wooden furniture, it makes it look cheap when it truly isn't. Have a great day and Happy Holidays to you and yours
Beautiful restoration, Ahti, that truly was a mess when you started. It was well worth restoring, just for the heavily-built frame alone. Nothing spindly and delicate in that construction, I'm guessing that is the appeal of this table. Wishing you and your family all the best in the new year.
You make it look so easy. Great inspiration for me to tackle our old dining table.
NO INGLES
You are the BEST, thank you for teaching me how to upholster an old armchair I inherited.😊🏴🙏
Love the free nail. And the results are amazing. Great job! Question, is it shorter than modern tables or was it the point of view?
It is just me, I´m tall ;)
I was wondering too. Maybe someone shortened the legs?
@@ATRestoration Lol. That makes sense. Lol.
Yet another fabulous restoration. This channel shows us lots of techniques to restore furniture, but what it teaches me most is that it is far far better to have a professional do the job - someone who knows the best way to approach all the big and small issues that come with the task of making something beautiful again.
Your channel has taught me so many new things and I apply them to my own projects quite often thank you
Incredibly beautiful! I love the results. Very impressive.
Once again, you have done beautiful restorative work. Thank you for showing how you do it.
I am smiling from ear to ear. Such a charming and stunning restoration. It looks so happy now 😊
Fantastic Job! Thanks for showing. So glad, this table is treasured by the family of the former owner.
I thought you would make new legs but your repairs are practically flawless.
Der Tisch ist wie neu. Nein, der ist NEU! Filzfuß, ein kleines Detail, aber sehr nützlich. Tausend Dank für all die tolle Videos!
Such a transformation loved the end result 👏
Beautiful result from what looked like a table heading for recycling. Also, have you ever thought about advertising as a relaxation therapist? "How to go from murderous to chill in 19 minutes."
Amazing restoration! It’s like a piece of art now.
I have to say your wood restoration channel is the best out there, you have ruined all other channels for me. Great work on this one as well. I look forward to all your videos just to see the process and final product
It's all down to the free nail!! 😂. Seriously, this is a true labour of love. What a fab result! Like always... 😊
This might be one of my favorites. It’s so simply clean and beautiful. No frills. Just gorgeous
Absolutely stunning work. Well done. Thanks for sharing the video.
I love watching you restore things. So incredible!
Awesome! As always, a pleasure to watch you work and witness your skill, talent and attention to detail.
Wow! Absolutely stunning!!!!
Beautifully done. Thank you for your videos.
I like that you show the obstacles and mistakes, and how you go through them. Happy New Year!
I wish I found your channel a year ago. I restored an oak veneered round table that was my great grandparent's, and while I kept many of the 'dings' because they were made by everyone who ate there over the years, seeing you run the leafs through the drum sander made me laugh because I went through 200 sanding discs trying to remove the varnish... I should have known that the scraper was the way to go.
Love your work.
Incredible! A piece of junk becomes a treasure! Wonderful!!!
