- Time for another lightning round! Mattel has made so many movie tie-in versions of Uno and I gotta cover them all at some point! This video will cover.. a lot of them.
Those of you that were disappointed by the addition of only ten Uno versions in the last episode will be pleasantly surprised by the contents of this one! The Amalgam must grow!
Every episode of this series gets us closer and closer to the goal of finally finishing this thing, and believe me, I'm even more excited than you are to get a physical copy in my hands.

one of my favorite parts of this series is the crusty jpegs of the cards, you can tell how obscure an uno version is by how many pixels are visible

While Uno Infinity is not represented, it had a useful mechanic that would help this game. The word 'discard' naturally meant 'without triggering effects', where 'play' meant triggering effects. This would be nice, and works with the meaning of the word 'burn'.
That’s true! I’m not sure if I’ll be using the word discard, but I do plan on assigning one word terminology in a similar fashion!

@@MassacresMansion It's good that you are making so much progress through all the versions of UNO, I wonder how many versions of UNO will have been made by Mattel between the start and end of the project though. By the nature of the project the finish line is moving forward the entire time.
Edit: Legitimately as a "numbers guy" it will be cool to see that number when you finish, but it's more mild curiosity than something I would actually want you to take any time to actually do.

genuinely thank you for bringing up how people gatekeep disability aid for the sake of money. People didnt ask to be disabled, so making it that much harder to accommodate them is more of a punishment for the people than it is a gain for the company

Okay hear me out... With Chemicards having the whole "science and technology" theme, you could totally make it so the number card from UNO Harry Potter reads "9.75" instead of "9 3/4". This would make for some hilarious antics when you consider scoring down the line, and is just way more recognizable because who uses fractions when determining a partial number like this?

With how many cards we are reaching and only a little over halfway there, this will be a fun nightmare to play with friends with how humongous this will be.
I'd also reccomended having a digital version of the manual for the sake of Ctrl + F shinanagins as well for if that tickles your fancy.
Litterly binged all of the vids in the past 12 hours and it is a blast.

@@MassacresMansion here's an idea for the TTS version: have a display that shows only the rules that are currently in play. and maybe a display for each player for the cards with rules that haven't been shown on the center display
so functionally like yu-gi-oh, but the rule text aren't on the cards themselves
Imagine if Mattel watching the Amalgm and taking notes and gonna make there own version of this
if they did do that, they'd probably take one of two approaches:
1 - the nintendo route: annihilate Massacre with legal junk like they did to that one Mario Battle Royale before Mario 35
2 - the mojang route: hire him
It would cost them so much money to get the rights to everything again. 😂

This is absolutely fascinating, I’m a big fan of spicy uno so this seems like the logical next step in insane uno-ish themed card games, can’t wait to see it all come together so i can keep torturing my friends with my epic “i remember random rules you forgot about” skills

Proposal for the card format:
Have the number be displayed in a square as if it were an element, have the modifiers in the corners of the square, and have the symbols in hazard triangles.
Also, as others have said, have the batman/superman cards be acidic and alkaline/basic.

A cool 1k card game, perfect for friends and families.
But here's a suggestion: if Uno Amalgam will be themed after chemistry, I suggest renaming the "One in a Million" card to something like the "Hitting a picobarn" card. A barn is an actual unit of measurement used in high-energy physics, and it is used to measure the probability of interaction between small particles (according to Wikipedia). It fits both the card's mechanic and the game's aesthetic pretty well, while also being humorous.
Yes, the name of the unit does come from the phrase "Couldn't hit the broad side of a barn."

Colorblindness support could be done with patterned card backgrounds - for example red cards could be checkered, blue cards could have stripes, yellow could have polka-dots, etc.

I can't believe Mattel made an UNO wild card that references one of the stupidest moments in the Star Wars films and made it a really interesting card. Props to them I guess. (No props for the endless CAMs though.)
Gonna cross my fingers and say that you might finish the game this year at the rate you're going. I have no reason to believe this, but I'm hoping.
I know someone who likes this series and said it inspired him to make their own game. It would be cool to play the final version of Chemicards with him sooner or later.

So I came here from the choopo video, and I've spent over 7 hours today watching all this. And I am now realizing two things. 1 holy f*** I wasted my day today (joking this is honestly a cool project) and two this guy is only halfway done. Among the list of uno-esque games not officially sponsored by Mattel that won't be in Chemicards you mentioned at the beginning, you should also bring up Tycoon, a card game that was made for the jrpg Persona 5 Royal.
It also appears in a bunch of other Japanese media too. I first learned it existed when I was watching Fruit’s Basket.

Here's some uno versions/cameo games and what they could add to Chemicards.

Uno 30th Anniversary.
(Anniversary Wild Card Rule.) This card can be played anytime on any color or number. The player gives their entire hand to any other player except for one card and says, "Happy Anniversary!" That player then calls "Uno," and changes the color of play just like "Wild." Counts for 100 points.
Uno Junior Move.
(Move modifier.)
Uno Madness.
(Has a Overload like mechanic.)
Uno Batman 2005.
(The Joker's 3 Wild Card.) Draw 3 cards. You may distribute these cards in any manner (i.e. 3 cards to 1 person; 1 card to 3 people; etc.)
Uno Batman 2012.
(The Joker Wild Card.) Draw 4 cards. You may distribute these cards in any manner (i.e. 4 cards to 1 person; 1 card to 4 people; etc.)
Uno Disney.
(Sorcerer's Apprentice Wild Card Rule) When this card is played, the next player draws 1 card, the following player draws 2 cards (increasing one card as it goes to the next player), until every player except the person who plays this card has drawn cards. The player who played this card then chooses the color of play and play resumes.
Uno Disney 100.
(Wild Mickey Movie Madness Card Rule.) Choose another player. You will then choose a movie from Disney’s first 100 years. The player you chose has to name four characters from the movie you chose. If they correctly name four characters, nothing happens. If they are unable to name four characters from the movie, they have to draw four cards from the Draw Pile.
Uno Sofia the First.
(Cute 'n' Cuddly Wild Card Rule) When a Draw 4 is played against you, use this card to block the effect. You then choose the color of play and take another turn.
Uno Pixar's Coco.
(Remember Me Wild Card Rule) When this card is played, the next player must identify the two cards directly underneath this card without looking at them. If the player cannot remember, they draw 3 cards.
Uno Platica Polinesia.
(Token modifier and ¡Mira! Wild Card Rule) All other players must draw 3 cards unless they have the 10th anniversary token in front of them.
Uno Texas.
(Last Stand Wild Card Rule) You may use this card at any time during the game to switch hands with any player who only has one card left. The player using this card then chooses a color and play resumes where it was before the Last Stand card was played.
Uno New York.
(Skip Everyone Wild Card Rule) Skip everyone and take another turn immediately after playing this card.
Uno Sock Monkey.
(Hat Wild Card Rule) Every other player must show a red card or draw 3 cards.
Uno Willie Wishers.
(Kindness Wild Card Rule) Choose a color. All players get to discard one card of that color. That color is also the color of play.
Uno Vacation.
(Check Two Cards.)
When played you can immediately play another card of the same color, a Wild or Wild Draw 4 Card, the wild color called must match the color of the Check Two Card played. The Check Two Card can't be played without a card of the same color. If the Check Two Card is the last card in a players hand you must draw. If the card just drawn matches the color of the Check Two Card, you may directly play the Check Two Card, say UNO, and play the matc hing color card to complete the game.
Uno Speed Racer (Racer X Wild Card Rule.) Flip cards over from the top of the draw pile until a number card is revealed. The next player must play a card from his hand that is one number higher than the revealed card (e.g. a 5 on top of a 4). When the pile shows a 9, the next player must play a 0 card. Players continue playing cards in this manner until a player cannot play the required card. That player must then draw 3 cards.

Mao’s main gimmick is that you are not allowed to tell any new player the rules of the game, and they have to figure it out themselves as they play. Every accidental infringement of any rule requires them to pick up cards. That would be absolutely hilarious here

I haven't yet found out if they're mechanically different, but I'll update you when I find out.

Plus, according to the UnoVariations description, you also get to take another turn after using it.
So using it as a nullifier, AND taking another turn afterwards - that's different enough to be included.
Dang, wish i got around to finally watching this series through fully sooner, i basically predicted that Batman/Superman card split with my suggestion of making half the colors represent Basic chemicals, and half the cards represent Acidic/Alkaline colors, and that was before they had a mechanical use!
In a mere couple of weeks i went from being unaware there was even a Dos to accidentally predicting mechanics 200 Uno versions ahead of where we were at, the Amalgam is absorbing more then just Uno versions, its drawing all of us in as well!
Learning about Uno is all part of the fun! 😂
I'm actually quite happy to hear about the triforce extending to all multiples of 3. When I saw that in the previous episode it bugged me a small amount, but I just took it knowing how many rules there are. But divisible by 3 is less complicated, so that's a good change.

for colorblind support: blank already has colorblind support (remember? that uno-like legacy game i commented about before) and i think is really good. basically, each color is also assigned a basic shape (square, triangle, circle, etc.) and that shape is placed under the number on the card
Shapes are definitely a possibility!
If there are OP cards in the game, do this:
make an extra pile. In that pile there is 1 of each OP card,
at the beginning of the game, everyone gets one of the OP cards and is not allowed to see that card,
until someone says UNO and then everyone can use there OP card

Great work as always. On the subject of CAMS - the system you've got to deal with them works great as it is, but perhaps an alternative that might be able to more faithfully represent some of them would be to have a single list of 'card arts' (perhaps a single icon in the corner all cards have?) from a list of 'chemical types' like 'basic', 'acidic', 'flammable', 'organic', 'radioactive', and etc as needed, with these different chemical types distributed randomly among the cards. Every CAM then refers to these chemical types, so for instance if someone should need to draw until they draw a card with Mario art or whatever, they instead draw until they get an acidic card. This would decrease the overall importance and effect of the standard 0 - 9 cards and might encourage players to have a wide range of chemical types in their hand ontop of trying to also have a wide range of colors and numbers.
This is a cool idea, unfortunately I’ve determined that it would be (nearly) impossible to incorporate all CAMs in this way while keeping them all faithful. The variety of effects and distributions of CAMs would likely lead to cards having multiple cam symbols on them, and even having one may not work just because these cards are going to be so cluttered as is. ):

Imagine, instead of rewriting every CAM, there was a new symbol added to some of the cards to represent the CAM. So each card would just have a load of small symbols on the corner and you have to look up in a massive rule book to see what it's called.
Unfortunately that’s literally what I’m trying to avoid. 😂

I need to find a game that is so cumbersome in rules, mechanics, and symbols that it would require a college course to learn the basics. I would bring it to parties and give my friends the choice of that game or just some mundane version of Uno™ (Or maybe Chemicards when it comes out).

(Shift-Up Card Rule.)
This card allows a player to a color sequence of consecutive numbers. Example: the card on the discard pile is a red 7, a player lays the Shift-Up card followed by a red 2, 3, 4, ect. A player can play as many card as possible as long as it's in ascending order and the same color. They can't play two cards of the same number. The Shift-Up card can only be played on a card of the same color. If it's the first card of the discard pile, the same rules apply.
(Pit Stop Card Rule.)
After this card is played, a player must discard their hand and draw a new one with the same number of cards as their discarded hand. This card can only be played on a card of the same color. If this card is the first card of the discard pile, it's put back in the draw pile.

Honestly with how much cards that target strange and distinct groups of cards, I just know that if there's no easy reminder on the card itself ala colour diamond or a trim down on the number of those groups, anyone playing this game will groan as the cards get played and the designated rules lawyer at the table searches the enormous rulebook for a particular card, only for the next player to play another one of those as the cycle continues.

Since you were talking about Cars, what about "Uno Master Cars" ? We may not need its timer BUG, but it's other mechanic can't even be called a CAM, because it's pretty much exactly how you add modifiers to number cards :D

I had no idea the ColorADD system was so proprietary and licensed. I wanted to use it for some of my games, but I'm definitely not doing that now. I wanted to ask about its inclusion in the amalgam since I thought it was a simple and elegant system, but now I'm grateful you brought this to light. There's 1 house rule of UNO I always have when playing with my friends: You may discard multiple cards of the same number/symbol at a time. But we also mandate a card must be played during your turn, if you dont have the card, draw until you can play something. You are not forced to play card you draw immediately under this rule, so you can be sly and keep drawing if you want, but watch out for the 21 card elimination rule.
These all sound really similar to existing mechanics in Chemicards!
I'm only familiar with the first of those. Great way of skipping UNO.

I think that since uno power grab already uses the primary colors for its mechanics, the color power cards should have their colors changed to some of the other ones, and the same for similar future mechanics. It may not be the same as the source material but its more interesting than the primary colors being loaded with way more mechanics

Quick question that probably has an obvious answer but if it's not said it *will* come up in play: if a card like the "played with too much" wild card results in someone discarding the rest of the cards in their hand *and then immediately being required to draw more* does that player win in the brief time where they hold no cards?
No they do not. Both win and loss conditions are checked at the end of any given effect. An effect can temporarily make someone have 0 cards but if the effect isn’t resolved yet then they haven’t won.
The sacrifices are complete, the amalgam grows, praise the amalgam

Gonna do what I always do and toss out some reflavoring ideas, but this one kinda has farther reaching consequences.
For the Batman V Superman color groups, I was thinking about what categories split chemicals into two parts, and I realized: Acids and Bases. Not only does this work as flavor for the mechanic involving these new groups, it also makes sense. Acids and bases cancel each other out!
Like I said this kinda depends on what thing you’re planning on representing each color with. But if I recall correctly each color is a chemical.
(Side tangent, but I can only imagine choosing chemicals that are easily identifiable and distinguishable by the general public will be an entire can of worms though!)
