The Amalgam is a combination of every version of Uno, at least I want it to be, and this is the start of that journey! Join me as I struggle to make these games collaborate with each other!

"Dance until your next turn" is a great mechanic because it pairs nicely with the skip/reverse turn cards to potentially prolong the dancing for multiple rounds.

so now you can have a round where you are dancing, while paying attentions to everyone else's amount of cards(shouting uno), the topics they are talking about (veto card), the card that is being played (jump in), and if someone else is bluffing (playing a +4 when they could play something else). Amazing game. 10/10

An intriguing start, though I'm compelled to mention that the Ubisoft version of Uno should probably make a reappearance given that, as far as I can tell from the Steam pages, many of its skins actually do introduce new mechanics.
(Also, given 3 of the new colors are orange, pink, and purple, I really do think you should make the fourth color teal/cyan rather than gray after all, since then it would be the four colors that Uno Flip adds anyway and be more distinct from black.)
You read my mind! I’m going to talk about this in the next episode but I’ll definitely be revisiting the Console Versions of Uno at some point. It may even get a whole episode! The reason I wanted to mention them early on is because if someone wanted to try this for themselves, the Jump In rule is crucial for a balanced game!
Also there’s a reason I included gray over cyan in the Amalgam. In my brief playtesting experience, there were several blue-adjacent colors, and a common issue was people would mistake all of the blues for each other and it was pretty annoying. For this reason I basically eliminated all blue variations for the sake of avoiding confusion. In Uno Flip it isn’t an issue because blue and cyan aren’t in play at the same time. Also, gray exists as a color and I thought it would be better to have more color diversity rather than two blueish colors. I hope that all makes sense!

Man, this video just made me realize the new Uno Show ‘Em No Mercy is just Flip with a draw ten, draw six, and a bunch of cursed rules.
But the rule I like the most is the mercy rule, which just kicks people with 25 or more cards out of the game.

I dunno, as much as this seems like a good rule for something like this, I honestly prefer to trap my friends in an endless purgatory from which we can never escape, and there's nothing more fun than watching the hope drain from their eyes as they go from one card to 37 through sheer bad luck.
I love this idea so much. It reminds me of those board games or card games you would see in children's shows where they just put every single mechanic together into one game as a sort of "generic" board game, and I love it

also there is one somewhat notable, more recent version you didn't mention: Uno All Wild!, which apparently adds new cards like Wild Skip, Wild Reverse, Wild Skip 2, Wild Targeted Draw 2 (I don't know exactly what these do, I just remember hearing about it and looked it up)
oh and also I think you forgot to mention the Custom Wild card, that's where the "X or Draw 25" meme came from
You’re not the first person to suggest Uno All Wild! Don’t worry, I’ll be covering it in the future! Also I intentionally left out the custom wild cards! I’ll be talking about them much later as well! Good catch though!
All I can think of is the fact that your design philosophy so far would make a Tabletop Simulator version of this relatively easy to make. Great job so far on your research!

I also meant to mention, your game design reinterpretation of some of the weirder cards and mechanics felt pretty smart (the bts dance card and the uno attack rules + 10 sided die come to mind).
I did have some trouble towards the end with understanding the logistics of the number of cards, their effects, and the relationship with colors, especially once the Flip rules were introduced. For the next video, could you maybe have a visual to show the contents of the deck, if at least at the end? Even a list would be nice.

Honestly hearing about all of the chaos and variety in these different forms of Uno kind of makes me kind of wonder if an Uno deckbuilder/RPG could actually work. Maybe you fight enemies to get better cards and use it to defeat bosses or something? Perhaps you fight some evil card god at the end? Just kind of an interesting idea I had.

Just something of note that you could choose to or not to incorporate into the final version: in Uno flip, the "light" side of the cards (red, yellow, green, and blue) is is more kind and gentle, featuring only the base game cards, the plus ones, and the wild draw twos. The "dark" side, (purple, orange, pink, and teal) is significantly more cruel, and is home to all of the plus fives, skip all cards, and wild draw color cards. I feel like this mechanic could tie in quite nicely with your game, as the added cards range in levels of absurdity. Additionally, having all of the cards even distributed on both side as you suggested completely nullifies the flipping mechanic, as the gameplay doesn't change at all depending what side you are on if the cards are the same either way.
You’ve done your homework! While it is true one side of the cards are more cruel in base Uno Flip, I think the added chaos of allowing everything to happen at any time adds to the experience that will be the complete Amalgam. If you don’t have your sides labeled, you don’t have to worry about making sure all of your cards are facing the right way when shuffling and putting the game away which is always nice. These cards are going to be busy enough in the art department as is after all! The Flip mechanic isn’t completely nullified either, as the back of the cards of Uno Flip are basically randomized compared to the front side of the cards. If someone uses the Flip symbol, your hand will completely change! I appreciate the thought you put into the comment! I’ll definitely keep it things like this in mind in the future!

Here, I've got an interesting one for you.
You've already covered "UNO Flip!" but there's actually another version of UNO with the same name, the Target Exclusive 2009 "UNO Flip" which I used to play all the time.
The main gimmick with it was using a small catapult to flip a little rubber character onto another player's "crash pad" whenever playing a flip card, and the reward for landing that flip would be giving one of your cards to the player whose crash pad you landed on. I feel like this mechanic would be a pretty cool addition, considering even without official hardware, you could effectively emulate it with a spoon, some plates, and pretty much anything that weighs roughly as much as a dollar coin, but I also feel like it could fit under the category of BUGs, so I could get why you wouldn't use it.
Also, it's very unexpected to find out that UNO has a scoring system, something that in all my years of playing I never knew. I think it would be rather humorous of you to shake things up and add different point values to every single new card you add, just so that the very few people that care to actually follow that convention now have the added fun of having to do even MORE math. Just a little extra spice when everyone thought it was over.

Also I’ll briefly be talking about the Uno scoring system more in the next video. The scoring may have to be rebalanced but I won’t know until much further down the line!
When I was a young lad, my friends and I made a new rule set for Uno, we called it asshole Uno. The rules basically went instead of having the exact same card to jump in on you could jump in as long as it was the same number alone, and you could take cards from other people's hands at any time for no consequence. The rules themselves made the games a lot more fun and chaotic.

The Tabletop Simulator workshop on Steam has a lot of custom UNO games. Most are just art swaps, but there are plenty that add rules and mechanics. Here are a few:

One of my favorite rules which Is not in the video (or in my light search of the doc) is slap on six where once a six is played the last person to slap the six draws 2-4 cards depending on how evil you are to the distracted, disabled or dancing

I wouldn’t recommend doing that. 😂
There are a couple cards that you could add from the Console Version too; specifically from the DLCs
Rayman DLC:
-Magician Card (or whatever it’s called): A card that hides the amount of cards the person playing it has, while also making a person of their choosing show their hand
-Duplicate Card: A card that acts exactly like the one that’s on the top of the deck
-Shuffle Card: A card that forces everyone to put their cards into a mini deck, have it shuffled, then passed around randomly
-Reflect Card: A card that, upon the holder being hit with a plus card, can be played to reflect the damage back to a person, doubling the damage to them
Rabbids DLC:
-Fast Card: Play it to make everyone’s turn only 3 seconds long. If you fail to play a card in that time, you have to draw
-Explosion Card: Adds a (figurative) explosion to the deck. If someone draws, they get +4’d
-Deflect: Similar to reflect, only doesn’t double the damage and instead sends it to the next person instead of the previous
Just Dance DLC:
-The swap hands to the person across from you is back, but forces everyone to partake
-Alien Card: A card is placed into everyone’s hand that will act like any random card (could be +5, could be a skip everyone, etc.)
-Even Card: Everyone randomly discards cards until they match the amount of the lowest card count of the group (so say someone has like 3 cards and someone else plays it, not everyone needs to discard until they have 3 cards)
This is all stuff I’ll have to add eventually. 😂😵💫
Jump-in, stacking, and 7-0 are all from an official version of Uno in 1998 (called “Uno Houserules”)where they held a competition to see who could come up with the best homebrew Uno rules.

SO! I have a friend, who has been steadily adding decks together for the past 3 years now, and every so often our friend group gets together to play what we lovingly[and hatingly]call Hell Uno
It's SO large, that shuffling it is an active pain, and we even have random Blank Card custom rules. We also have a house rule. Instead of reshuffling the deck, we take the discard pile, and set it aside, and just KEEP GOING
We can get 6-10 rounds in before the game is unwinnable, and it's AMAZING
There WERE some custom things we had to do, like for the Stranger Things cards, we had to add Waffles to a proportionate number of cards, so that they would actually, y'know, exist at a normal rate.
Then we had ONE card, that is the absolute WORST. One of the "Draw til Waffle" cards? It landed on a "wild draw til color" card. Which we decided. YES THIS SHOULD STACK
Wow! That’s so cool! That sounds like a really funny and massive version of Uno! Your story is really similar to how Uno Amalgam was conceived in the first place! I have like 30 ish versions of Uno all in a massive custom box right now. Maybe I’ll have to show it off sometime. 😂

Me and my friends used to play what we called chaos UNO in high school. Every plus card can stack infinitely, you can reverse skips and plus cards if it's the same color, you can jump in if you have the exact same card that's on the table, playing a 7 would allow you to choose a player to swap hands with, playing a 0 would swap everyone's hands clockwise, etc. It is honestly one of my best memories from high school

It’s funny, my friend has a version of uno like this, where we have regular uno, non-partisan, all wild, uno flex, uno 90s, dos, Zelda Uno, and Super Bowl uno all in one giant deck, with tons of custom cards. There’s probably over 800 cards in our deck lmao.
That’s what this started out as! I have a deck that has 30-ish versions of Uno in it and I was tired of spending money. Maybe I’ll show off that deck someday. 😂

There's a game rule I've encountered in an unofficial Uno game on Roblox, UNOfficial (it was originally called that, but now it's known as "Locofficial"), that being the slap on 6 rule, when a 6 is played, everyone places their hand on it as quick as they can, last player to slap draws 2

This reminds me of this group of friends I met in my university's board game club who made their own version of Uno called "class uno"
It had rpg classes and used dice and it was actually really fun

@MassacresMansion it was! My favourite class was the swordfighter where you could jump in if your card matched the number at all, but doing so would skip your next turn, so you're essentially just jumping in and nothing else
There were more reasonable classes that gave you stat changes like +1 to all pick up cards played by or against you and also some insane ones like one where you can "kill" other players, permanently removing from the game or like. Time travellers.
I think there were some that had you essentially playing a completely different game too, it was insane but a lot of fun
my math teacher made an uno like game. it doesn’t have as many drastic changes as this, but it does have 4 different piles
It wouldn’t make it simple, but it’d be funny if you added Uno Ultimate: just this entire game, but everyone gets an entire deck and each wild card has its own special power corresponding to each deck. (Also enemies exist)

The further along this project comes, the closer we get to a 16 player game creating the conditions for the full BTS dance routine to be performed while play continues

I remember the Peanuts version of Uno had a Wild "Red Baron" card which was a regular Wild card but also let you "fly" over to someone else's seat and see their entire hand. That better be included!

me and my friends just played a game of uno for 5 hours where we allowed trading, which was amazing and chaotic and allowed for the biggest betreyals for those who never wanted the game to end, and at one point, someone had every card of a single color, and we all had at least a full set of them. it was hilarious

Have you heard of Uno Spin? I don't know how you would incorporate the Spin cards without the spinner itself, but "it would be so awesome, it would be so cool." Also, Uno Triple Play has three separate discard piles, and everytime someone plays a card, a timer goes down on the discard pile they played it on by one, until it hits zero, and the person who made it hit zero has to draw (I don't remember how many cards it was, I haven't played it since last Christmas). Again, not sure how you could incorporate that one either. I would also suggest Uno Blitzo, except that's not a card variant, rather a bullshit electronic "game device" that is super rigged.
Oh don’t you worry. I’m VERY familiar with all of those versions of Uno and I plan on incorporating them in the future! Obviously they contain BUGs but I’ll do my best to innovate a cheap solution! Stay tuned for more! I absolutely love your energy!
Me and my friends love to play "Magic Uno", a tabletop simulator steam workshop game. The basis is that it has multiple different types of uno you can play with, but just like your project adds the "magic uno" titular game mode. this version simply adds all the special cards from the uno version that are in the workshop mod. No core mechanic changing ones like flip or any that include a "BUG", but a LOT of powerful ones like "kill Kenny" making you draw until you get a normal 4, or creeper that makes everyone draw 3. You also have the special cards from harry potter, raymen, Just Dance and a "normal looking" uno that adds "No U" and "communism". While there are a lot of powerful day-ruining cards (Kenny can make you draw 1 card or even 53), the existence of the other powerful cards tends to balance it out (in those 53 cards, you tend to draw a solution. A player has 1 card left that can stack on card draws? play a creeper, he HAS to draw). I would suggest giving it a look for operation or even just having a taste of how fun your project can be if the cards balance each other well.
That sounds ridiculous and fun. 😂 I may have to try something like that out sometime!

@@MassacresMansion The best part is that the whole thing is scripted, so all the card effects are automatic (Although some things act a bit weird, like stacking and challenging +4 or the experiment card being able to be played on any stacks) I suggest trying "basic stacking", "no challenge +4" and "jump-in's on"

In UNO planes, like the Pixar movie planes, the cars spinoff, there was a spacial "racing" card where everyone picks a card and the person with the lowest number draws 4

I would love to play this version of uno adding some traditional Brazilian house rules such as slapping the 9 card every time it is played, making the last person who slapped draw 2 cards and staying silent when a red 7 is played until someone plays a 7 of another color, with the penalty of drawing a card for every sound made.

You should add in Show 'Em No Mercy. 0s rotate hands, 7s let you swap hands, stacking is legal, there's at least one Wild Draw 10, and if you have more than 25 cards in your hand you instantly lose.

in the name of chaos, the d10 should stay on whatever number was rolled. this means that if you roll a 10, you got the die to 10 so you have to roll it again
While that does sound evil and awful, (in a good way) that likely wouldn’t emulate the Uno Attack machine as well in the final version. :(
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who's had this idea. I've been collecting UNO decks to add to a big-ass deck that me and my friends break out on special occasions for a few years now. I've currently got 20 distinct decks of UNO cards in my deck and a 30-page Google Doc of rules for what I call "UNO X".

I'm doing my re-watch of the amalgam and I really like the idea of different wilds having different colors it could add alot of veriaty to the slapped wilds. Though it could be complex or too hard to balance over just having full access

the stack +2 rule is an optional ruling along with stacking +4 in Ubisoft's digital Uno game. Its how me and my family always played it so it was nice to see officially somewhere.

One thing though - as an UNO attack lover, I feel like the substitutions for UNO attack are a bit too deterministic. That is, while in this version you can predict exactly when it you'll get shot, the original UNO attack you could go shot multiple times in a row, and no press is free.
So let's replicate that. Let's keep the D10, but starting on a random value. Let's call it "the doom die". Instead of pressing the button, you play against the doom die. To do so you:
* Roll a separate D10, and if your roll is less than the current value of the doom die, you lose the roll. You roll your die. You draw that many cards and then roll the doom die to determine its new starting value.
* Otherwise, you win and you increase the value on the doom die by 2. If not possible (9 or 10), you increase the value on the doom die by as much as possible (set it to 10).
This solves the determinism problem as you can never be 100% certain whether a play against the doom die will cause you to draw or not, and allows for things like "press twice" to still possibly cause you to draw twice, and for "everybody press" to possibly cause multiple people to draw.
(To be polite -- I'm not trying to be prescriptive here or say "this is the right way", I just find it easier to suggest rules like this in a declarative way)
Cool ideas! I’ll definitely consider them! Although you don’t truly know when you’ll be hit with the Attack D10’s mechanics as it relies on the draw pile’s randomness and other player’s hands. :)

Theres another wild card where everyone passes their cards to the person who played it, they shuffle the cards, then re deal them starting with the person on their left! The deck i have that includes this also has wild cards with blanks so you can write in your own permanent rule or leave it blank and choose every time :)

I actually really liked this video and I am here to suggest more uno versions to add to this thing
"Uno Spin" witch was a version of uno with a BUG but I think if we had like a very small spiny thing it would work.
"Uno Power Grab" witch adds another bug and I have no clue how to add this in without making it too big and bulky that I have no clue on how to explain the rules of it as well.
"Uno Reflex" would be impossible to add without making a smaller electronic bug.
"Uno H2O" witch adds transparent cards witch can't work in this amalgam due to UNO flip existing in here and we are using normal cardboard but it adds "Wild Downpour" cards witch basically is the wild draw 2 except there is also a draw 1 one and all players have to draw the amount of cards the card said to draw when you play it.
"Uno Blast" This has a big bug in it but basically we can replace it with 5 small decks that you add to and you add to them when you draw a card you can't play we can use another dice to detect when the blast to happen but the person who made it blast gets all of the cards that blasted out

Sorry if this has been addressed before, I just found this series today, but the “left handed Uno” and “Uno Flip” things game me the idea that maybe you could make the left-handed and right-handed versions of the cards on opposite sides of each other, just for a tiny bit of added visual chaos without adding any mechanical complexity.
That’s a neat idea!
