    Jaymz: "Ok Kirk, it's your turn, just pop in the studio will you, bring what you've written so far, your riffs, recordings etc"
    Kirk: "Errrrrrr, what riffs/recordings?"
    Jaymz: "Fuck man not again, you fucked up, you should never have lost all your riff recordings dude, and stop surfing so much, you might find time to write some good solos then!!....Ok fuck it, just make it up on the spot, we ain't got time now, the first take will have to do"

    If Metallica had a lead guitarist... I've been complaining about kirks playing for nearly 2 decades now. he's written iconic solos throughout the 80s and 90s but since then nothing even above what you would call "lazy"

    It took me a few spins, but I enjoy it. It's not groundbreaking, but that's fine.
    Metallica set the bar to unreachable heights with their early work so we'll never get another Puppets or Lightning. They're older and this is more or less the appropriate direction for them. You're entitled to your own opinion of course. I can understand why people don't like it.

      I don’t mind them slowing down it’s the lack of trying in the solo that ads insult to injury for me. I’ve heard some else say “it’s like they are trying to see how little they can do and still get away with it”.

      Up to reload it's pretty good, then "descent" on DM and HTSD but utter crap on 72S. I'm not saying he is a "bad" player. I'm just saying he could spend ANY time working on a solo and it would be 100% better than he just winging it and one take improvising on the pentatonic scale...

    I appreciate the reaction and breakdown....and I get it from a channel like yours (although this is my first time seeing one of your reactions). I'm an old fan. My first Metallica show was during the Kill 'em All days at a club in SF. I saw them at Day on the Green and Sacramento in '85. I was 18. I learned all of those songs (Kill em All and Lightening...most of it) the old school way, listening to the album and doing it by ear. Back in those days, the music or tab didn't come out for years. Anyway, I feel these guys are put under a microscope on youtube and the shit is broken down way too much before it's actually listened to. We used to just crank the music like it was intended to be through a full stereo system. It seems people are seeing this the first time on their phones or some cheap laptop. Even the old music doesn't sound great like that.
    Do I like this one? Yes I do. It has that dark and evil sound. Is the solo great? NO. I really don't know what happened to Kirk. He creates some good ones and then just craps out something like this? Not sure what's happened. Let's face it. They are much better live. That's just how it is now and I believe this song would be awesome live and loud with some dark and evil stage lighting. Anyway, sorry about the rant. Keep up the good work. I just subscribed.

    • @PatPosse
      @PatPosse  Рік тому +2

      I’ll take that as a compliment !! I agree that we must give time for the melodies to sink in and give them an honest shot… people’s attention spans are way shorter these days though and if you don’t grab them by the throat during the first few seconds, you are done! And I personally think this song fails at that… too long an intro and way too repetitive a song. I can’t justify it being 7 minutes long… the Melodies are actually good and the vocals are on point. It sounds great but it’s just too long for no reason (too me, anyway) the solo is a monstrosity. I KNOW Kirk Can do better cause he has, time and time again. That’s why I’m so pissed at it. I think he didn’t even try to do better. It was just good enough. Metallica is way better live, FOR SURE! But, even though I agree that they are scrutinized more on UA-cam because of the fact that they are Metallica, I also know that this song would never get given the time of day had it been released by a local band independently.
      Love the rant bud! Welcome to the channel! 😁

    The problem with people is no one gives credit for their musical growth that no other band does- Everyone wants Metallica stuck in a time capsule and never grow musically. I would say from musicians perspective I applaud their ability to keep cranking out quality songs, and continue to grow as musicians. I don’t think the reviewer here appreciates that one bit, and like most other people with kind of a limited musicality want them stuck in a certain area and appreciate nothing beyond that. I like to see people grow and not be repetitive. Metallica has nailed that.

    • @PatPosse
      @PatPosse  Рік тому +3

      I beg to differ... strongly. I have NO PROBLEMS with change and/or growth. In fact, I have praised Load and Hardwired and never once compared this song to an older song. I was completely objective here and spoke only of this song. The fact that it's a long drawn out song and the lame ass solo has nothing to do with the first albums... I can definitely understand change, growth and quality, this ain't it.

    • @mikerauter1859
      @mikerauter1859 Рік тому

      And what you my friend sound as though you are not factoring into the equation is people want Metallica stuck in time because their origins - thrash metal is purposefully aggressive, destructive and antisocial music. Unless you take it in a technical progressive direction like Justice, 9/10ths of musical growth usually dilutes, weakens, sells out and polarises the hardcore fanatical fanbase who put them on the map by supporting them when the mainstream - even the established metal bands at the time didn't. Obviously - a band's music is theirs - if Metallica want to record a folk album they have every right to do it - as long as they are prepared for the backlash from metal fans who also listen to black, death and grindcore. You want inoffensive growth bro go listen to Polyphia.

    Man, I am right there with you. Except I was a teen when the Black album came out and having already been a die hard fan of their first four albums i was disappointed with the direction the Black album went. And yeah they haven't really failed to disappoint since. As for Hammetts solos, they blew my mind when I was a kid and he single handedly was responsible for my desire to learn guitar. Lets face it though 30 plus years later his solos have just become stagnant and predictable. Mr Pentatonic only. Have you ever taken a Metallica backing track and redid Hammett solos the way you think it should've been played? I do that all the time at home, it's pretty fun. My friends love it when i do that.

    • @PatPosse
      @PatPosse  Рік тому +1

      Thanks brother! Yeah, we are on the same page. On justice and the black álbum even load he seems to have pushed himself but ever since then it’s pentatonic salad galore with no intent or melody. It sucks but it is what it is..

      @@PatPosse I saw a video that was happening during the making of the Black album i believe, where producer Bob Rock was pushing Hammett to do better. Like Hammett was writing a solo for one of the songs and Bob was saying "Cmon man, your solos are garbage and you know it" ( I might be paraphrasing a little haha) and Hammett was all being a winey bitch about it, but ultimately he was pushed to play a little better. It might be a video that's in a Metallica box set. I haven't seen it in a long time so my memory of it is a little foggy.
      As for Justice for All, I think that is their best album except for one crucial detail. You cannot hear the Bass at all. I bought the tab book for that album when I was a teenager and it was by far the worst transcribing I've ever seen. So fucken frustrating.

      The problem with Metallica is their Guitar tone has been very weak, blunt and frail.
      Too much of mid is killing their awesome riff compositions in Death Magnetic, HTSD, and the new album.
      Ideal Thrash Metal tone would have proper balance between heaviness & sharpness which Metallica has been missing since mid 2005.
      Just put Black Album tone in Death Magnetic, HTSD and this new album; the riffs would have sounded more aggressive ferocious.
      Metallica has shot themselves in the foot for poor choice of Guitar tone in their last 3 albums despite making great compositions.

The interviewer politely didn't mention the obvious - that it must have been then sped up post recording producing the inevitable raise in pitch. We even listen to the songs way more times and give them far more chances trying to find some redeeming qualities, meanwhile there are tons of bands out there who are coming up with way more interesting efforts, better, catchier songs, inspiring lyrics, technical solos, etc… and we won’t give them the time of day. Having heard this song 4 times now.. It's dreary and Drab.. It's terrible.. With Kirk being extremely lazy. The other two songs.. No.. Especially that Suicide song.. No. Metallica are at stalemate. Bob Rock is not there to Challenge Kirk. Am not excited about this album. Recently I went back to Death Magnetic.. Having only heard it twice when it came out.. I went back to it.. No.. Drab and Un interesting. Hardwired to me is awful.. Absolutely not. The title track to Hardwired was maybe the worst Metal song I've heard.
    The last great Metallica album was St Anger... And Lulu is terrific.. Heard it for the first time a year ago.. Great album. I bought St Anger the day it was released. Heard it twice.. Couldn't connect.. Then disconnected from Metallica for many years. A year ago.. Decided to Re visit(no pun intended) St Anger.. As it has a terrible reputation online.. Here on youtube. I went in with no expectation.. Prepared to not like it.. I had no reason to like St Anger. I pressed play and the journey was smooth sailing.. In fact some of the songs were familiar to me. It was a great listen.. A great flawless album. I listen to St Anger semi regularly. As for Load and Re load.. I had a listen to them both after not having heard them in 20 years.. Meh.. They are Ok.. But I have trouble getting through them.. Less trouble with Re load.. But still No.
    More recently went back to the Black album.. Yeah.. Interesting.. Though have trouble getting all the way through it.
    After Jason left.. I disconnected from Metallica completely.. Never liked Rob.. Never will. Yeah.. Have seen a couple of his interviews.. He seems cool.. But just No.
    For me St Anger is their best album.. It's my preferred to go to.
    This song.. I thought about it and what it reminded me of. Slither.. Velvet Revolver. Also this song is very much in the sense of Load and Re load. Kirk being the weakest link.
