That is my favorite MetallicA song.....flying the MetallicA flag since Garage day re-revisited and CLIFF EM ALL. Inamorata is currently getting me through rough times.
Don't let haters talk too much. Metallica are the fucking best. They write and compose great music, simple or technical. At 60, it is amazing to listen to Hetfield blast out amazing vocals. Lars never gets the respect he deserves
@ghost mall Passion, Energy and Creativity... (Lack you said.). I just think exactly the opposite. This song is all Passion, Energy and Creativity.... But, yes, everyone has a different perspective.
@ghost mall make sure you come back and tell everyone how much energy you have when you are 60 years old. No band in history still had new quality music beyond 30 years. And you wanna critique the fact they don’t act like they are 21 lol
People forget that they're getting older and arent as aggressive as they could be. Metallica is my favorite band and they have variation and are purely unique instead of stuck in one mode
The song in general is very good but from the solo to the outro it's something special. You right that ending transition is dummy sick, that rhythm at end just hooks into my bones.
EDIT: Your WOOOOOO in unison at 17:28 cracked me up. Contrary to some opinions, Metallica never went anywhere, they never fell off. They are the most successful metal band of all time. Their true passion is playing live so they don't release albums as frequently as other bands that have been around as long as they have. They sell out venues wherever they go. Their audience contains 70 year olds and 17 year olds. Only heard 3 songs off this album and so far, I feel like they are making music they can play live and sustain over the next several years. Bottom line, I am happy they are still releasing music and can't wait to hear these live. You 2 didn't really like "Battery" but that song comes to life in an entirely different way when played live. Long live Metallica!
As much as I love Metallica (they were the band that got me into metal as an early teen with Master), Reload and especially St. Anger were definitely "fall off" territory. Death Magnetica was an uptick, but Hardwired to Self Destruct didn't do much for their catalogue. In any case, this new album has some good promise.
The amount of people that say "they dont sound like AJfA, MoP, nothing compares to those albums".... they were angry, passionate, enthusiastic and in their 20's out to make a name for themselves. Now theyre making music cause they love what they do... just appreciate the shit they put out and listen to it with an open mind. I personally love DM and Hardwired, some of their best stuff is on those albums. Nothing beats the thrash metal of the 80's yes but people are allowed to evolve and experiment, as Metallica have done over the years, successfully IMO
This isn't about not having an open mind. I can go from Cattle Decapitation to Devin townsend then straight into Low fi then come around to Solstafir and roll right into Japanese city pop. The problem is they have a hit and miss with the riff writing and the vocals just aren't cool. They just plain miss the mark half the time in just a single song let alone a whole album.
To me, this song sounds almost like what we’d get if Metallica immediately swerved back to their Black Album sound after Load. Parts of the song sound directly taken from Load (like the guitar hang after the intro, sounds like the opening to King Nothing, some of the vocal work sounds like Load/Reload) while the instrument sound (especially the bass) and the song structure is closer to Black Album. I think it’s hard to fully appreciate a song like this if you’re someone who grew up with Metallica and keep crossing your fingers to feel the magic you felt when you first discovered them. But I think this song, if it were released by just about any other band, would be treated with a lot more respect than it’ll be given because it’s Metallica. Also, PLEASE do Bleeding Me. It’s one of Metallica’s best songs overall and it’s on Load. I think it’ll be one of those songs that sneaks up on you, maybe you won’t feel it at first but by the end, when the song it taken as a whole, you’ll feel much differently.
There's more than a little Death Magnetic in this one, too. I specifically hear "The Day that Never Comes." Personally, I haven't been thrilled by any of the singles from this new album. They all sound like retreads, and they're all so damn long (and this coming from someone with a friggin Joanna Newsom pfp that used to be an Opeth pfp...).
I have thought exactly the same thing about so many Metallica songs - "If any other band had made this..." Metallica has the best and worst fans of any band in history. You are so right about the music being tied into nostalgia for lost teen years. I'm about the same age as the band so have been there for the whole journey. I guess I grew and evolved with them because I haven't been mad at anything they have put out (especially when hearing it live). The songs off Load and Reload are some of my favorites. I like Death Magnetic and am always amped when they play All Nightmare Long or The Day That Never Comes. HWTSD was great. I like these new ones so far too. However, I had so many idiot friends who burned their Metallica shirts when the Black Album came out, who ran over Load CD's with their cars lol. Met "fans" are an odd bunch. I do go to a LOT of shows and it always makes me laugh when The Memory Remains gets played. They whole crowd keeping that ending melody going forever and I KNOW those are some of the same people that called it trash.
Bleeding Me is in the top 3 for Metallica songs for me. Great lyrics, excellent musicianship, and one of James’ best vocal performances if not his best.
I love how even 40 years after Kill em All they still have immense quality in their work. 40 years is a LONG time, and they’re waaaaay older now, but they’re still killing it. They gunna fuck around and be as old as The Rolling Stones and still touring and making music and I’m here for it. I love how much y’all love Metallica. Keep being great guys!
I introduced my now 13y/o daughter to Metallica a few years back, and she loved them. Now I played this song, and just the beginning made her smile so big. Playlist addition for sure, for both of us.
ReLoad was my first Metallica album when I got my first portable CD player when I was maybe 7-8 years old. Load and ReLoad were the albums I grew up on, and then every thing was based around that. But the BEST album by Metallica, is and always will be, And Justice For All.
I'm glad George mentioned the drums taking him back to hip hop because as I listened to this song for the first time right after I listened to Nicki's Red Ruby Da Sleaze, I thought that If Darkness could be a good song to introduce a hip hop elitest to metal. The guitar, the pace of the song, everything I thought was perfect to have anyone with interest in the genre to listen to for the first time.

Really hope y’all react to some songs off of Death Magnetic (the album before Hardwired) one day as others have mentioned before this album was a return to their roots while still sounding fresh at the time.
Honestly yeah. A lot of people have this idea that Jordan was washed on the wizards, but he was still amazing and leading the team to the playoffs before injuries.
Fucking love this reaction 😂 exact same reaction I had on first listen. That nasty bottom end riff that keeps coming back in is just a thing of beauty.
Yea this song marked the moment I got excited for the new album, feels like something off black album with the percussion and I can’t get enough of it ❤.
Their in their 60s. It’s an evolution of all their years. Theirs Kill em all in there. Load/reload. I love Slayer but every album doesn’t need to be reign in blood. Solid new songs. Life changing? No. Solid. I hope I’m still this good at what I do when I’m 60. Metallica are the Goats.
Lars grew up on jazz music and within the jazz community so a lot of his fills and licks come from jazz influence. His dad was really into the scene. Lars’s godfather is actually Dexter Gordon, jazz saxophonist and composer. Lars has a very creative out of the box mind, he doesn’t get a lot of credit for it probably because he’s not the most polished drummer but he’s made some of the most bad ass songs.
The drumming is better so it makes the song better....he's actually doing fills and mixing it up with halftime which makes the song much more immersive and impactful!
I Agree that the drums sound cool and has different parts, but there are not fills in this song ..just change of tempo and the " Eye of the Beholder double bass" part.
@@NandR very few man...Lars went really minimalistic in this song. Very few snare rolls, a few toms. The song could have been way better with more fancy drumming.
the sound production on this album the way the guitars all the instruments sound awesome highly recommend adding this to that music collection i dig it
Been listening to Metallica since the early 80’s one of my favs but doesn’t mean I’m gonna like every song the put out so far out of the 3 new songs they put out this is the best one and seeing then live you will not be disappointed they sound just as good
Thankfully Metallica are one of the few bands you can get more excited about hearing a live version of a new song compared to the studio version. I bet this one will be 🔥.
@@jochencooper2751 No bro they truly suck live. And i mean high school band kinda suck. They have been the laziest triple A band since the late eighties.
@9:35 ...."I don't know what's coming up but..." Yeah, no you've heard the whole song half way through. To be fair tho James sounds amazing, it's straight crazy how good he sounds, and the first 3 minutes or so are fu**ing cool, it just repeats waaaay too much. Should have been a 4 min song, max. Someone needs to put their producing big boy pants on and tell Metallica they needed more editing.
Lars’ whole mantra post Black Album has been “make the music swing”. He is always about the groove and making song have a great rhythm and pulse. He also plays on the back-beat which gives it a particular sound as well. I think all those Jazz records that his old man was listening to in his youth rubbed off on him. Great reaction guys! Hopefully you will do more once the album drops. 🤘🏼

To a Metallica purist, I agree with you. Love this song. After the Black Album they lost the plot, but I think Death Magnetic was nice return to form. A lot of people simple hate on them because it is "the thing to do at this point."
@@K1ng69Floyd I did and It's really not that good. I don't hate on them, but even this new song is a bit uneventful, imo. They will probably never top their first 5 albums and that's ok.
@@lenni-hazels not many bands could. That was probably the best run of albums of any 80s/90s rock/metal act. I just wholly disagree with the notion that the mid 90s and early 2000s stuff was bad.
You realize the hate is coming from diehard fans right? It's not the thing to do. It's just that Death Magnetic is far inferior to any of the first 4 albums. It's not even up for debate. You don't think the diehards actually want something incredible from Metallica?
Metallica albums (basically post-Justice) that haven't been touched on the channel: Load (Bleeding Me, Until It Sleeps, The Outlaw Torn, Ain't My Bitch, Hero of the Day, King Nothing, Mama Said) Reload (Fuel, The Memory Remains, Unforgiven II, Devil's Dance, Fixxxer) S&M (No Leaf Clover and Minus Human) Death Magnetic (Cyanide, All Nightmare Long, The Day That Never Comes, Unforgiven III) Metallica fans who only like thrash don't like these albums at all, but only because it's not trash. The only reason these albums are trashed on is because it's not what the first albums sound like. It's not a bad thing that it's different. There's some really good music here. There are bangers on all of those that deserve a listen. If I had to choose a select few for y'all: Bleeding Me The Outlaw Torn Fuel No Leaf Clover The Day That Never Comes All Nightmare Long

We need reactions to Room of Mirrors and Inamorata from the new “72 Seasons” album! Both are 🔥🔥
Great review thats the love this music pulls everyone together
Really hope y’all react to some songs off of Death Magnetic (the album before Hardwired) one day as others have mentioned before this album was a return to their roots while still sounding fresh at the time.
Been a fan since the beginning and this song is daaaaang good!
"This is Wizards Jordan" was an excellent analogy. I'd say Metallica's still putting up 20 a game.
Kings of Music….period 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘
Yea this song marked the moment I got excited for the new album, feels like something off black album with the percussion and I can’t get enough of it ❤.
Their in their 60s. It’s an evolution of all their years. Theirs Kill em all in there. Load/reload. I love Slayer but every album doesn’t need to be reign in blood. Solid new songs. Life changing? No. Solid. I hope I’m still this good at what I do when I’m 60. Metallica are the Goats.
A TOTAL BANGER!!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR ENTHUSIASM!!! KILLER VIDEO!!!
Great reaction!!)) Metallica rules!!
It's great to see James using lyrics from the discarded presidio sessions
Metallica is one of my top favorite bands ! 🤘 I've been a fan since the late 80's ( even as a kid ) and I was very pleased with this song.
17:28 is the best part of this video ! 😂
Still watching years later. Keep on rocking in the free world. 🤘
Before I even watch the reaction I have to say I'm loving the song more with each listen. Just sticks in my head.
This sounds like a song off of Load or Reload…it’s METALLICA!! Will ALWAYS be cool! Been listening to Metallica since 1988’s …and justice for all!
Just found you guys on the Metallica forums. You are awesome! Thanks for bringing happiness and positive energy to the world! You've got a new fan 😁
LARS RULES
Lars sucks
Lars is a great composer.
So much bs. LOL
LMAO
I like that too Ryan the contrast between half time rhythm and a faster riff or melody line floating over top of it can sound dope af
It’s a great Song!! I lIke it a lot!!
LOVE the Wizard's Jordan analogy... "...seeing holes in the defense, still hittin' f*&!n' floaters..." Great stuff!
We need 90’s Metallica reactions from our boys Lost in Vegas!
They have a couple, check their older videos
Definitely! Bleeding me, Outlaw Torn, Devil’s Dance.
@@facelessandnameless it’s definitely gotta be Devils Dance or something with groove. King Nothing or Ain’t My Bitch.
I really enjoyed listening to this with you guys! I like the song a lot more now that I hear what you’ve heard
@@victorherrero4790 No there are fills. Mostly snare rolls, but some toms in there too.
I'm glad they finally came to their senses and added the bass back into the mix more prominently. Good stuff
Trust me this is going to be straight up fire live,Metallica still kick ass even though they are nearly in their 60s
Source? Trust me bro.
@@moondawwg if you know, you know bro
They're not quite in their 60's yet! (Only Kirk, who is 60)
@@jochencooper2751 No bro they truly suck live. And i mean high school band kinda suck. They have been the laziest triple A band since the late eighties.
@@Hoscitt oh sorry in their 59 and a half's then, my bad
Heard this song for the first time today. I am digging it !!!!
Holy shit dude, as a lifelong Metallica fan, I never thought I’d hear something this good from them this late in the game.
What?? It sounds like it came directly from the "Load" album
Mediocre.
@@patrickbateman7369 there’s not one gallop or riff as heavy or metal as some of these anywhere on those albums. you aren’t qualified to speak on this
Good????? Wait..
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@NoahParker98 why isnt he qualified to speak on this dude? Based on the 3 singles he doesn't like this album, it is his opinion as is yours to not like load
In my opinion load and reload were ok albums and both had great songs they were not heavy as ajfa, mop, ride or kill of course but they were a couple of great songs which were created with immense passion and some parts are heavy or at least more creative than the 3 singles combined, the outlaw torn for example man you should listen to it especially to the ending
15:36 this is 💯 🤣
That was a classic Lost In Vegas transition reaction at the end there. love it haha
You must listen to Inamorata, Shodows Follow, 72 Seasons and Screaming Suicide.
To a Metallica purist, I agree with you.
Love this song.
After the Black Album they lost the plot, but I think Death Magnetic was nice return to form.
A lot of people simple hate on them because it is "the thing to do at this point."
These guys need to listen Death Magnetic! So underrated IMHO
Load and Reload are good albums. This song, however, sucks ass.
I've watched these dudes go from not knowing who Metallica is.....to becoming Metallica experts and it's fucking awesome
This is my favorite of the 3 singles released so far, by far.
thank you for trasmiting good vibe!
Metallica albums (basically post-Justice) that haven't been touched on the channel:
Load (Bleeding Me, Until It Sleeps, The Outlaw Torn, Ain't My Bitch, Hero of the Day, King Nothing, Mama Said)
Reload (Fuel, The Memory Remains, Unforgiven II, Devil's Dance, Fixxxer)
S&M (No Leaf Clover and Minus Human)
Death Magnetic (Cyanide, All Nightmare Long, The Day That Never Comes, Unforgiven III)
Metallica fans who only like thrash don't like these albums at all, but only because it's not trash. The only reason these albums are trashed on is because it's not what the first albums sound like. It's not a bad thing that it's different. There's some really good music here.
There are bangers on all of those that deserve a listen.
If I had to choose a select few for y'all:
Bleeding Me
The Outlaw Torn
Fuel
No Leaf Clover
The Day That Never Comes
All Nightmare Long
id add suicide and redemption to DM it is a masterpiece IMO
@@brianthiebold that's true, very underrated
Been a fan since 1988, first heard Master of puppets. Sounds great to me.
The lyric Temptation goes back to the St. Anger recording sessions. it wasn't ever used until now.
Maybe if I just scream Temptation over and over, people won't realize I didn't write any lyrics.
@@mikehauncho4874 nice try
This song is really growing in me. Definitely the heaviest of the three so far
That's my favorite of the 3 new tracks released so far. It's for sure an ear worm. I've been humming it for a week straight.
Love most of Metallica, this one included. Wish you guys would do All Nightmare Long!
I really really think you guys would like a lot of the blues metal found on Load and Reload.
