Lots to take in here. The opening reminded me of Eye Of The Beholder and the rest was very load/reload ish for sure. Lots of cool riffs in there to learn.

I like the chorus a lot, and what is played behind the verse. It’s cool, sitting in the 9 spot b side it fits the Hardwored/black album profile.

As an alcoholic, the lyrics James penned for the new single "If Darkness had a Son" hits hard. James has struggled himself with alcohol. It's wonderful he uses music to vent, share, encourage and strengthen.
Pretty bad ass. Happy these guys are going on at 60. This new tune is my favorite released so far. Sound like the darkness of AJFA with the bounce and groove of Reload. Love it

James finally got his song! He has been carrying this song Temptation for almost long-time all the way back to the Presidio/ Saint anger days. Anyone that paid attention to the movie, and specially the outtakes that came with the DVD, will realize that he's been waiting to get this song/lyrics out in a song for a long time! I think it came out great. Kudos to James!

Totally feel your reaction! I heard this brand new Metallica song the other day and it really resonated in me. Not sure if James has ever been so open about his inner demons. I have them too. The Unforgiven songs come close. Musically, it is a 100% banger! Love the time changes. The honest spiritual aspect and heaviness of this song digs deep into my soul!

@@StephenWyand yeah, the best part is that sometimes they catch on stuff that for some of us that are metal heads might fly over our heads cause we are so used to it (like transitions and stuff like that) and at least to me, it gives me an even better appreciation for some songs!

72 seasons is a reference to the first 18 years life. It's a reference to growth and evolving.
Every song they released so far sounds like something off their old albums. 72 Seasons is a reflection of their discography. They're taking their old sound and mixing it with who they are today. It's like a "Best Of" album with twist! That's also why they're releasing 72 Seasons on Vinyl and Cassette.

In my opinion If darkness had a son sounds more like Load than screaming suicide.
Screaming suicide reminds me Hardwired to self destruct specifically Atlas Rise but yeah

It's too good. It's amazing how Metallica makes a simple, catchy song yet so groovy. Although a pretty conventional song structure, somehow it feels fresh.

Dude that was FAST!!! Love this song. Feels like a grower but it has a vicious and dark edge that I love! Heavy as fuck, both musically and lyrically. Plus, LOTS of bass cutting through in these new songs!

The intro has some DM vibe, and the vocals are like Load/ReLoad, then it turns to something like Eye of the Beholder.

nice one! always the first guy I run to for a Metallica reaction! we had the same reaction when James started singing the verse part... the drums and guitar riff was totally different from the intro, and the singing was great! i hear a combination of bands in my head (influences, perhaps?) the intro is very similar to The Eye of the Beholder from AJFA, I hear a little White Zombie's "Electric Head" in the verse, and the outro sounds like Pantera's "Regular People (Conciet)" Cool reaction as always! can't wait for the full album!
I bet, Metallica are doing the opposite from how they released the singles from Hardwired. Wherein, they would release the cool songs first, then the average songs next on Hardwired, while in 72 seasons, they releasing the average songs first, then the really cool headbangers later on, before the actual release date. wouldn't that be cool??? remember when they released Spit Out The Bone??? Hell yes!!!

That Dark Chorus was sickk af , from Lars's drumming to James's dark vocals , but honestly I wish Kirk had more thought process behind the solo , I understand he improvises but come on kirk at least make the lead line up with the rhythm section a bit lol , overall awesome song tho :)

Definitely dig this one ( as I have all the singles so far). A little nasty, a little swagger and heavy.
The song hooked me just from the intro they teased us with. Hearing the song (3rd time now) gave me chills. Epic. Easily my favorite so far from 72 Seasons. After the letdown from Screaming Suicide (IMO) this song just proves that SS will ultimately be classified as "filler" in the end but only time will tell.
This is now my favourite on the album. This is sick. Screaming Suicide is a close first. Lux Aerterna was alright.

The middle part where they switch from fast to slow and back reminded me of Here Comes Revenge or Am I Savage.

I was really upset by this song at first, but I wanted to give it an honest chance so I gave it a couple of listens and it’s really growing on me. it was different at first but I’m really starting to dig it

I remember when I first saw a video of you it was with the reaction of "Hardwire". Here we are enjoying having our favorite band still releasing records and being able to experience it live, not everyone has that privilege. It's a great song, Metallica even the simple sounds good, the guys already gave it their all in the 80's. Even so they are rocking non-stop, possibly if they release the Master today and Ride would look for anything to criticize them. with you the best Metal band still alive giving it all, living legends. Lars and his halftime patterns make this song from a musical viewpoint. Of course the big dog James nails the vocals. For me he’s NEVER sounded better. What a song. For me a modern masterpiece from the band. It’s right up there for me

This song sounds like it could have been included among the tracks on the second disc of Hardwired, but it’s so much better than any of them (aside from Spit Out the Bone)

For me this is the Best song of the three so far.
The song is real nice, the double bass part sounds just like "The Eyes of the beholder".
James is in top form, bass sounds cool and Kirk solo is catchy.
