we have been making these for a while now and we have found that if you mix in a couple tblsp of melted butter, garlic powder, pinch of Himalayan salt and a dash of Italian seasoning along with the one part water it makes for a great crispy italian style snack and is great as a salad crouton substitute.

By "1 part water" do you mean the 1/2 cup he cites in the recipe? Or does it have to be reduced since you're technically adding more liquid (the melted butter)?

@@mamawanderlust6000 I used the same amount of water with it and I've done butter and I've done olive oil...both were good. You can't mess up the recipe...all you have do do is cook it till it's dry...I have even done it in the microwave and if comes out crispy

I make at least a batch a week. My wife loves them! A few modifications; I add a few teaspoons of raw organic chia seeds, and some turmeric powder, and I've been setting it at 277F and am up to 90 minutes (always crispy!). I also fold and store the parchment paper for reuse.

In the oven `For an hour at two seventy five`.... So you said and so I did and the whole thing was turned into charcoal!
Being a Dutchman (Europe) and a novice in baking I presumed it to be 275 Celcius Hah ha ! (which made 527 Fahrenheit)
Later didi it the right way (135 C) and it is an amazing simple and a satisfying snack to deviate from temptations to carbs.
    Thanks for the video :)

    2 quick tips:
    (1) Add your seasonings FIRST, and mix them dry for more even distribution.
    (2) before baking, run a spatula or butter knife along the mixture in a grid pattern to create "score" marks for even breaking

This would also be very good as a breakfast cereal. Cook regular , without spices, and crumble in a bowl then add unsweetened almond milk and a little Monk Fruit. A morning breakfast cereal.

I just made "Oatmeal" Cookies with this: 1/2 c. flaxseed meal, 1/4 ground walnuts,2 tsp Monk Fruit sweetener,1/4 tsp cinnamon,1/4 tsp salt,2 T. butter, 1 egg yolk, 2 egg whits ,beaten stiff. Mix together dry ingredients in bowl. Crumble in yolk and butter with fingers. Beat in beaten egg whites til combined. Cook on parchment lined cookie sheet in preheated 350 oven for 20 minutes. Press tops in Monk Fruit. Makes 8 cookies.

I was feeling impatient to try these and made them after soaking for only an hour. And they are delicious!! Especially with the rosemary and other seasonings you recommend. Thanks for the great recipe!! But I'm wondering, what is the benefit of soaking them overnight, when it seems to work after just a bit of soaking?

    • @TSunshineful
      @TSunshineful 5 років тому +5

Stephanie Spielmann it releases the nutrients from the seeds otherwise just use flax meal and disk five minutes . Also grind the rosemary and use very little as it has a strong flavor .

FYI: The nutritional value of flax seeds is diminished if they are left whole so you may want to use a mix of freshly ground flax seeds for nutrition and some whole flax seeds for texture. Also do not buy flax meal or flour as the nutritional value rapidly decreases with time, best to grind your own and use immediately. I use Nutri Bullet or VitAMix to grind mine.

I do this and it makes them easier on the digestion. Those little buggers are very sharp when they’re cooked even if you think you’ve chewed them properly. I like to add some butter for a real craft cracker experience. The only problem is that I end up eating them all at once (which is a lot of calories even if they are Keto).

The recipe says "3 net carbs", but the video says zero, implying the seasoning adds 3. Which seasoning did you guys use that added 3 carbs?

Just discovered flackers and can't wait to try your recipe! Thanks! (I will try a little apple cider vinagar, as in the flackers)

How to prevent sticking to parchment paper? Is it too much water? I end up using non-stick Teflon but am not a fan of that.

Help! I made a batch tonight. They are almost done (gave them som extra time) because when I touch them they simply fall apart. They aren't staying together. I used Bobs Red Mill Golden Flaxseeds (1 cup) and (1/2 cup) of water, added some similar seasonings. Fridge for 18 hours, covered. Rolled them out, baked for one hour at 275. What did I do wrong?! I was so looking forward to these with some hummus! ;(

April Eslick depending how thin you rolled it, it could need longer to bake. plus you used way more than they did so that can also make the bake time longer as well

I have seen much longer baking tines on other recipes so maybe they just needed to bake longer

it could depend on how thin you rolled them. also, if you have high or low humidity. give it another try!

Here's a question. Well more like idea. What if you blended the mixture to make the seeds more fine. It would be more like a chip I think once you make it.
