Nice job. A fourth 'nut' Dr. Sten is a fan of is coconut meat. Trader Joe's here in US sells bags of unsweetened coconut 'chips' / flakes for $1.99, much more convenient than butchering a whole coconut!
I learn so much from this man! He is so calm and teaches so clearly. The best part is that he isn't trying to SELL me anything like others. I've learned more from him than I did in my college nutrition course!
Yup, when I hear a sales pitch at the end I feel like I'm being hustled!!😳lol. There's only a small handful of UA-cam Docs who DON'T do that. This awesome Doc is one of them!💜
I agree, it seems like he likes balanced diets not selling high carb or high fat diets, but giving advice on balanced diets even though he kind of supports healthy high fat diets to some degree. High sugar and processed fat diets seems to be the enemy number one to health and I couldn´t agree more. As a type one diabetic (who works out 5 times a week and have an active lifestyle outside of that) medium carb, and medium fat has been the best option for me, which doesn´t mean medium fructose, medium processed margarine :)
I will never give up my berries, so many great benefits, Antioxidants. Have a blueberrie, raspberry, kale and flaxseed smoothie every morning. The rest of the day is low carb. Never felt better.
I have changed my life, I have lost weight because you teached me the fasting. I lost lot of fat. Thank you very much 😘. If you see many likes its me 😁
Going low carb helped me bring my blood sugar A1c from a high of 9.3 to 7.2 in 9 months. Bonus: my chronic nail fungus cleared up during that time (I had struggled with it for ten years and nothing worked). My nails have continued to improve, I've lost weight, fat and my skin has improved as well (no more hormonal breakouts). I'm 63.
I have been on intermittent fasting for about ten weeks. Amazingly I have lost 23 pounds, my hdl/ldl and A1C are at historic low levels. I have bought a new wardrobe and with delight donated shirts, pants, jackets and more. I listen to Dr Stan every night, over and over again as he keeps me reinforced. I have my first meal of the day at noon and don't eat anything after 8pm. Eight hour window for food, sixteen hour window for the body to do its work. I may have lost all that my body will allow but will enjoy the health benifits for the rest of my life. We were on a cruise a few weeks ago and I didn't eat bread, pasta, rice or deserts. It was easy.
@@greenleavesofsummer9673 You are wrong. Michelle Obama tried to teach kids how to eat better and right wingers called her a Communist......you are not informed enough
Same for my partner. 'Accidentally ' leaving a playlist of Dr Ekbert and Dr Fung's videos streaming on the tv when he came home one evening has completely turned his health, and weight, around! He does miss his Crunchy Nut Cornflakes though...!
Yup. In order to avoid the heart disease and the quad bypass my father got at 63, I went 'low fat' and used to plow through bran flakes and skim milk and skipped all the steak and eggs and bacon for many years, and it got me coronary artery disease and a heart attack in my mid-50s. They fooled me big time. I should have gone HIGH fat, low carb. I had no idea.
@@pelon1977dl Basically Only had 30 grams of Carbs a day and cut out all sugar completely. Every morning had Turkey bacon with eggs and Unsweet Almond milk. I'm 58 and in good health but staring down the barrel of the last third of my life. We all need to adjust as we age and to do that we just need the plain facts. Thank you for presenting them here.
My personal goal with keto is to manage my ood sugar levels. I'm type 2 diabetic and aim for ultra low carb intake each day. So far so good, I'm off my meds and bloods are under control.
I can attest to the keto diet as a type 1 diabetic. When I first went on it I lost 45 pounds and I have been able to keep my A1C near 7.2-7.5 over the last 5yrs down from 13! For the first time all the highs and lows are way more under control. I have found that when I get low sometimes still, if I eat some carbs like (depending on how low I am) some grapes and some cheese (protein) then it's not just a straight up high and it levels it out...I have learned a lot from learning about food and health, we have GOT to take responsiblity for our own health and stop being lazy fat butts about it! (I include myself in this!) I still struggle with my food addiction but my diabetes is under control for the first time in my 46yrs!
Thank you @lauraslanestravels for confirming just how important it is also for Type 1 diabetics. So many T1D's are told to eat what they want and just take more insulin as needed. Congratulations on your great results. 😄
I've been on a carnivore diet for about 3 weeks now. I've lost 15 lbs. and I feel calmer, I don't have cravings and I am not hungry. This is the perfect diet for me. My weight loss has slowed down a bit but that's okay. I plan to continue until I get a bit closer to my goal and then I'll start adding back some foods. All of the ones you've highlighted are on my list. But the really great news is that I'm not feeling I MUST have them. That's completely new.
2 meals a day was giving dad in his 90s half a cup of berries with cream! He loved it and his sugar level was good. wheat or rice or potatoes only once on Sundays
Dr. Sten , I learn so much from your every video. I know you spend much time and energy to present this information. I am 66, and in the best health of my life by following the knowledge that I have gained from you. Thanks so much.
I won’t give up fruit entirely. I eat strawberries and blueberries with high fat yogurt, heavy cream and almond milk, with a tbspn of peanut butter and Stevia for flavoring about every day and have lost 25 lbs. easily doing keto. Dr. Ekberg - you are a gem! You’ve changed my life for the better. ❤️✊
CutZy, I agree. I enjoy some fruit every day. I will throw a half cup of blueberries into my Keto pancakes or will have three to four strawberries with cream. I only eat berries as these are lower in sugar in small quantities. It’s the only carbs that I eat and doesn’t raise my blood glucose.
I’ve done Keto on and off for 2 years with amazing results and not just weight loss! I limit myself to 20 carbs a day however I only have around 10-15 max. It’s a hard diet to start but once you have it sussed it’s easy. I recommend it to anyone. Thanks for your info 👍🏼
Yes! I testify to this, I have the same results. Two things I found have a beneficial effect to reduce blood sugar and keep it lower are daily exercise, and a good sleep pattern.
@@dalcow1101 I eat fairly normally on Keto just by tweaking normal meals. I usually have plain Greek yoghurt, keto friendly cereal and coffee with cream for brekkie. I have a low carb chicken wrap for lunch and for dinner things like, steak egg & salad, lamb chops broccoli and cheese sauce, lamb and beef mince lettuce cups or I make my own Pattie’s for “low carb burger” with lettuce instead of the bun, chicken stir fry’s, “Chaffles (look them up so delicious!) homemade pizza using a low carb pizza base, wrap or Chaffle for pizza base, and heaps of other “low carb meals” I’ve found. I also have a keto friendly dessert every night! If you don’t know much about Keto I would suggest researching it and knowing and understanding what “ketosis” is and how to achieve it. Then once you understand about carbs, protein & fats and how they work for Keto diet just search keto recipes there’s heaps of UA-camrs that have amazing keto channels and recipes. It sounds overwhelming at first but now I don’t even need to track my carb intake its become habit. My biggest pieces of advice are understanding what foods contain carbs, planning all your meals a week ahead and drinking lots of water! Good luck 😁
It's weird to read labels, ingredients, organic, GMO, sugar, fake sugar, etc for years, but never paying any attention to the carb count or fat percentages at all until now.
LOVE your channel! I’ve been watching for some time and am a fan. I’m a very long-term ketoer - 11 years with a couple of low carb (under 50) per day and a sad break during the pandemic. When I started, and for many years afterward, there was little info and nothing like the proliferation of YT channels and FB groups. I had spent so long figuring it out and refining my diet through research. It was wearying, when the internet ramped up, to see the amount of misinformation being spread and the complete slavery to “the lists” with absolutely no knowledge to back their viewpoints up. I appreciate your factual, common sense and science-based approach.
There are so many “Top 10” lists of food videos out there. This channel is the Only One that explains the reasons & science behind why it’s a ‘Top 10’. I might be stubborn but I can’t just change my eating habits because some guy on UA-cam makes a list. But when it’s explained to me in plain speak as Dr Ekberg does I’m 100% on board. Thanks Doc.
Thank you Garry Rowland.😄 I love to hear that. And obviously you are very smart, not stubborn. I have to shake my head every time someone says in a comment "just go to time stamp __:__ for the list so you don't have to watch the whole thing." Those people are gonna skip around and never gain any understanding of what to do.
@@drekberg it annoys me when people do that, i think its disrespectful to people such as yourself that go to the time and trouble to make these helpful videos
I just had to let you know that I love listening to you. You have such a comforting way of expressing your knowledge. It's much appreciated over here 😊👍
When I did this in 2018 it took a few weeks before I lost 1 pound. I was actually at my goal weight for quite some time. Then we had the plandemic and I learned to make sourdough bread. That was my downfall. Although, I thought sourdough bread was more nutritious and less carbs.I guess I ate too much for too long. I put on 15 pound and can't fit into anything. Now that I'm back on Keto, I've lost 5 lbs in 2 weeks but it's much more difficult for me this time, and it took longer for the me to shed the first pound. This video was very helpful because I cut out all fruits and sweets and the craving for something to finish off after a meal was making me crazy. I'm accustomed to having a clementine or some berries and now I know that I can have some berries. Yippie!!! Thank you for your comment MiHiHemi...Many Blessing...

When you say protein turns to glucose, "relatively quickly" what is that relative to? Not the SAD? Or do you mean fat? Maybe I'm missing the point. Thanks for the inspiration and hard work it takes to make these videos.
Great clarification on the Carnivore. So many now go "carnivore" but don't realize the way protein can also elicit a glucose response, depending on how fatty the cut. It is not a black and white, one size fits all. Thanks for your content.❣👍

I have started the Keto diet 3 weeks ago and have lost 4.5kg which i am very happy with. Maintaining the scores is a bit confusing and I did not appreciate what the Macros were meaning, until now. I have got amuch better understanding of it all. Thankyou
Great video! The only thing you didn't mention is that when we eat meat (sometimes a lot like being Carnivore) Gluconeogenesis does not happen automatically just because we ate meat. Gluconeogenesis is Demand Driven, not Supply Driven. It will only occur when certain cells have a need for glucose, it doesn't just run all the time, converting protein to glucose causing blood glucose to rise every time we eat meat.
Thank you Steve Fulgione. Great point. The body is not random. I'll do some videos in the near future on the types of protein and how they are utilized. 😄

Hi Dr. Ekberg. I started the carnivore diet last week. So far I've lost 2.7kg. I'll naturally have days where I don't feel hungry before 13:00, and other days I wake up hungry. But so far its working. The reason I'm doing the Carnivore diet is because its a bit easier to maintain in a household where making meals for everyone's needs is impossible. I've also changed my to a better quality water supply. In my personal life I've noticed that I get a severe insulin response when I mix carbs with protein. Especially if its a lot of carbs with a little protein. Was wondering if you'd mind making a meal prep video?
Berries and cream is my special "prep weapon" when doing 24h or 48h fasting. I like to make this my last meal before I fast and eat that as a meal if I want to extend my fasting with a day and I also make it my first meal when breaking my fast. It's a great cushion against hunger!
I knew about fasting for a long time, but low or no carb and high fat was something I was sceptical about. Knowing thoroughly the ins and outs really keeps me on track since I know what the benefits of my efforts are ! Thank you so much for the way you present the information ! What I would love to see is some examples of meals you eat on an average day, whether it’s an intermittent fasting day or one where you maybe have to eat out: what do you eat? Thanks in advance 🤗

This is your best video for someone starting a low carb or keto lifestyle. If only people would pay attention. There are far too many people who think low carb/keto means swapping low carb junk food for the usually high carb processed things.

Keto is the easiest diet to stay on and a quick way to lose weight. I love that I can eat steak, bacon, cheese, etc. Obviously one must still control portion size but the food amount and type is so much more satisfying than what one can eat on a strictly low calorie diet.
Life and health was totally different before knowing you. After watching your videos and by following them I changed myself a lot. My mental strength, confidence and physical condition improved tremendously. Thank you so much Dr. Ekberg. And my request to you to educate us posting new videos.
Low carb diet definitely works. My problem is that I am sensitive to salt and I have high blood pressure. I read that to do a keto diet, one must increase sodium to 4 gm daily- which I cant do. Any suggestions??
I absolutely love you Dr Ekberg, in a single day you transformed me from eating five or six random protein meals a day trying to body build to two meals a day fasting for 11 hours. You showed me I was getting 17% of my whey protein, eliminated the fear of drinking a carton of egg whites because #1(protein) is the whole egg, stopped all processed food and soft drinks. I'm a Health Champion now! I have one question if you could Grace it; I'm trying to build as much muscle tissue as I can I'm in the gym for 3 hours a day, is two high animal protein meals a day going to develop the muscle tissue im after?
I never knew that the combination of foods (strawberries vs strawberries with cream) could affect how your body’s insulin response is affected and how your ketosis works. Thank you for an amazingly informative video

One of the best videos out there to truly understand fat, protein and carbs. I have watched hundreds of hours of videos and may have learned as much from this video as I have in hundreds of hours of your tube viewing.
My question is everything you eat turns to carbs. So, how can you eliminate carbs in your diet. I have been on keto for over a year, and haven't lost weight. My A1C ranges around pre diabetes. Even though my blood sugar results have improved the results are very frustrating.
Would apple cider vinegar in water before meals help? I'm trying out acv in water with cranberry concentrate to make it taste better, and sometimes some fresh lemon juice too .
Thanks Dr. Ekberg. It’s helpful to learn this kind of detail. I am reminded to combine foods (fats and fibre), to reduce their insulin response (and to allow nutrients to combine together for their best absorption). Giving up fruits just when they are all freshly abundant is really difficult, but I have to choose instead to achieve fat adaption. There is no sense in shooting myself in the foot after putting in all this time and effort! It is great for us to be empowered to regain our health and affect our family’s health as well, not making the same errors that we unknowingly have made all these years.
Thanks very much for this as I have been diabetic for whatever reason for the last 20 years. I eat exactly like what's described in this video other than no dairy. Very helpful information!
Thank you so much Dr Ekberg, I really really enjoyed watching you talk to us again. It’s so helpful and useful too. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags

Hi, Dr. Ekberg, I really enjoy your videos because you explain the why's and wherefore's of Keto, Insulin Resistance, etc.. I find the vast majority of people talking about Keto and related material, rush through their presentation never really explaining why something works or doesn't work and constantly trying to sell me some product. Thank you for your work.
Many thanks Dr Ekberg, you've changed my life. In March this year, when I first bumped into one of your videos I didn't knew anything about how my body works or doesn't. It was literally against all my beliefs or knowledge but I've told to myself that it worth trying. Although it was the hardest thing I ever did now I am enjoying this new life, I've lost fat weight, I found time to exercise every day, I have a fit body and a brilliant mind, all of this thanks to your videos and your professional way of explaining and presenting it. Can I ask something? What happens with the digestion at the stomach level when it comes about having high stomach acid when I fast? I think that in the fasting period the stomach has acids which will damage the stomach..
Great way to contrast, by weight and by calories. It really tells a better story of the foods we eat. I never thought of it this way. Or how a particular food could dominate the numbers. Wow. Good science, thanks Dr. Sten.
Dr. Sten is cool, calm and collected. My other Keto gurus are Dr. William Davis and Dr. Ken Berry. These are the Three Wise Men as far as I am concerned.
THANK YOU for this video! It taught me way more than others, you weren't trying to sell me anything AND you had visuals which helped tremendously! Thanks! I try and stay between 25 to 30 carbs a day (easier than you think!) and so far I've lost almost 70 lbs in about a year VERY happy with that :D
I'm blessed to have 4 mulberry trees that birds planted for me. They're pretty low in carbs from the research I've found. I take your advice that if we could find it in nature to eat then it has to be better for us than anything man has tried to create as ''food'' Love your videos! I went from 300g + of carbs to only 70 a day and have lost 10 pounds in the last month and feel like I'm thirty again at age 50.
Thanks a lot for your videos, After watching a lot of your vídeos and if I did understand them correctly I know now why my health and body changed so much after rmy Road accident. Accident = PTSD. PTSD = Stress. Stress = Cortisol. Cortisol = insulin. Before the accident I had any health isues and I was not fat.. After the accident I had a fatty liver, high blood pressure, cholesterol, hypothyroidism, diabetes type 2 I put 23 kg on weight I had a moon face and a potbelly. I stopped to take the diabetes tablets because of having a lot of low sugars episodes with them. Because of the lockdown I could not see my doctor and get tests done, so that I started with intermittent fasting diet. I lost at the start 5 kg very fast, my moon face and my potbelly, now losing weight slower but still losing. I lost a total of 11.6 kg and just with intermittent fasting diet. No low carb diets any diets at all. Very happy with the intermittent fasting diet just wishing I could lose more than 0.5 kg a week.

Low carb / low lactose dairy is: cream, sour cream.
High carb lactose dairy is: skim milk, low fat dairy.
5) leafy greens. - lettuce - fibrous filler food sources. Arugula, spinach, kale, etc. Add 2tbsp olive oil even better.
6) non starchy, fibrous veggies - broccoli, cruciferous, cabbages, peppers, etc.
7) nuts. - macadamia, pecans, walnuts, coconut* "meat"*, pistachios, pili nuts.
8) seeds - flax, hemp, chia.
9) oily fruits - avocados, olives.
10) the low carb fruits are: (lemons, limes, currants, cranberries have less sugar than berries), blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries. Berries - esp the sweeter ones: 1/2 cup when eaten with heavy cream, the macros improve / less spike of insulin.
11) - additional comment from me / other sources: eating fiber or a fiber rich food first, BEFORE eating more simple carb / higher glycemic foods, can also help cut the insulin spike from the simple carbs by 25-30%.

Thank you Donna Hanna. Thank you for your kind words.😄

As a type one diabetic (who works out 5 times a week and have an active lifestyle outside of that) medium carb, and medium fat has been the best option for me, which doesn´t mean medium fructose, medium processed margarine :)
i agree 100% , couldn't have said it better myself Donna Hanna
I will never give up my berries, so many great benefits, Antioxidants. Have a blueberrie, raspberry, kale and flaxseed smoothie every morning. The rest of the day is low carb. Never felt better.

I'm completely controlling my diabetes with low carb diet no drugs no insulin

So you fast for 16 and only eat from 12-8 pm ? And when you do eat it is very low carb meals ? High protein ?
Great job
I like the way this doctor explains everything slowly and simply and you can understand much more easily than most.

From a parent to a Type 1 child. Well done 👏
Thankyou😅
Thank you @lauraslanestravels for confirming just how important it is also for Type 1 diabetics. So many T1D's are told to eat what they want and just take more insulin as needed. Congratulations on your great results. 😄

It was wearying, when the internet ramped up, to see the amount of misinformation being spread and the complete slavery to “the lists” with absolutely no knowledge to back their viewpoints up.

Hm, maybe try listening to Dr. Boz. And maybe go more carnivore.
Thank you Alina Toma. The stomach will typically not produce acid if there is no food in it. 😄
I like Dr Edburg's pace in the videos. This is helpful to those whose native language is not English.
Dr. Ekberg , thank you for this guide. So helpful to me since I am on a low carb diet for 5 years now and it really works👍🤗
Thank you Bing Yu for sharing. Glad it works. Keep it up! 😄
Thank you for all of your hard work Dr. Ekberg! I appreciate you. 🙏☺️
Thank you mfischer387. I really appreciate your feedback. 😄
Great way to contrast, by weight and by calories. It really tells a better story of the foods we eat. I never thought of it this way. Or how a particular food could dominate the numbers. Wow. Good science, thanks Dr. Sten.
One month into IF - it was possible by eating keto. The morning coffee with 12% cream is a game changer.
Look up fibrous versus starchy carbs. Fibrous are the better ones for sure, and you need them to provide so many vital minerals and nutrients!
Wow this is great info for me since I’m doing a low carb diet. Thanks Doctor.
Glad it was helpful!
I eat 10 carbs daily...lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks.
Thank you Doctor. watching you all the way from Kuwait
I have an update! I lost 15.1 kg since the intermittent diet! Slowly getting back to my weight. So happy.
