I'm sorry but I just don't understand the rationale behind doing this diet. Of course you can choose to eat whatever you want but it seems that your approach is so different. In the past you seemed to back whatever dietary approach you were taking with scientific explanations. But this diet doesn't seem to have solid scientific backing. What is it supposed to achieve? Why cut out grains but then drink a ton of sugar in the form of juice minus the fibre? Because I can't see our distant ancestors in European countries eating all this fruit on a regular basis and even in tropical climates it would have been bulked out with the fibre. Anyway just interested why you chose to do such an obscure diet so different from what you were previously doing.

More like 6 years +. I will have been on keto for 5 years, come the end of this month and I'm pretty sure you were at least a year ahead of me, maybe more. I couldn't have survived the first six months of keto if it weren't for you, your YT channel, and your website. I still make many of your recipes -- both from your channel and your cookbook -- that have become some of my favorites.
I was so sad to hear that you have had a rough road of it, Megha. I'm really glad the worst is past and you're starting to feel like yourself again. The boys are adorable, btw. I love listening to Theo talk!
Whereas I got sick 2-3 times every year (before keto), I haven't been sick once since I started, not even a 24 hour sore throat, nothing! I attribute that to keto. It's the only thing I've changed, but of course, it changes everything.
I look forward to hearing how you do on this new eating plan, Matt. I will also look for the books you recommended. I'm glad you're doing that.

There's nothing wrong with doing a clean, whole foods diet, including all the complex carbs like fruits/veggies/whole grains, especially if you either limit the high glycemic complex carbs or make sure you're active enough to burn them off after you eat them. I used to lose weight just eating clean whole foods, including complex carbs, and working out with weights 5 or 6 times a week. Because I was active, I could eat a lot of calories per day of whole foods and still lose weight, or maintain my weight.
But this new diet you're describing sounds ridiculous.
Just eat healthy whole foods instead, avoid refined carbs, and don't be fanatical about somebody's weird dietary rules that don't seem to make sense.

I am really glad that Megha is feeling better and I hope that she continues to heal. I have a chronically ill family member and I know how painful it is for them to miss out on life. However, they have made nutrition a huge priority and I believe it’s been key in helping them heal. I do think that strict keto with no processed keto crap or carnivore/ketovore would help Megha a lot with her interstitial cystitis and managing flare ups.
Matt seriously always seems to low key be hating life as a dad, lol. Ray Peat diet sounds kinda bananas, but who knows, he might thrive.

Thnx for sharing so much of your life with the world. Glad Megah is healing.
The best way to know if you’ve overdone carbs is to gauge how crabby you feel 2-3 days later. Of course the more carbs you consume the more cardio output you need to put in. But insulin spikes alone will tell you if you’ve over done it, cause you will get more crangry, then usual…. At least that’s how i gauge it. Grains tear me up the most: body aches, depressed mood etc.
Life is not static bro. Forgive yourself always. It’s ok to binge on carbs once in a while, sometimes for energy sometimes for comfort. What is the least detrimental carb? For me its fruit or dairy items.
    -Best wishes

I had significant health issues after having both of my boys (due to a chronic condition), and agree that I feel like I lost time during those precious days. I have to reframe the way I think about that into something more positive, or it's an endless cycle of "why me" or "what if". I'm SO glad you are finally on the other side of that horrible time.

I started watching you guys back when you were still in Philly, you were what inspired me to start keto. I did fantastic for a long time and watched you and the savages regularly. Then about the time I started deeper state keto both your channels really started pushing a mentality that if “you really want it you make time for it” and having kids and work and life struggles was just an excuse to not eat healthy and hit the gym every day. I loved watching you guys and knew that as young couples you would one day find out how that’s not really true. But it was still really difficult to hear and I had to stop watching both channels. I’m glad to see your on the other side of things now, your family is amazing and you both deserve all the health and happiness in the world.

I used to have really bad planters fasciiitas wich is inflamation .I could barely walk for the first hour I was awake in the morning and was in crippling pain all day! I started keto diet for other reasons and the planters fasciitas went completely away along with many autoimmune problems I had
Whenever I fall off the keto wagon the pain in my feet comes back. Maybe going back keto or low carb or figure out whats causing the inflammation. Its not worth the pain for me to eat inflammatory foods.I wish I could but I cannot! I hope you feel better!

Changing up the eating is normal. Most of us use keto cyclically, I've been doing it on and off for 40 years, having started with Atkins. Problem is the gaining of weight when not on keto and yes life and kids do get in the way.
Let's face it, there are times the body craves tropical fruits, ice cream etc. My kryptonite is ice cream when I'm not on keto.
Now I'm nearly 70, fighting the inflammation created when not on keto, not to mention the excessive weight gain during the last 3 years.
I've decided that keto has to be a way of life for me with the odd higher carb day to shake things up.
Wish you all the best on your family and dieting journey.

I had to take a step back from food journaling because it began to affect my daughter. She's 6 and my keto restrictive diet was causing me to spend more time in the kitchen preparing my food separately, plus I would OMAD and my daughter asked questions and even though I would answer honestly... the diet began to take time away from my family and more. Adjustments are still made, but I need to focus on instilling healthy long term habits for my children that aren't extreme.

I will always regret the time my daughter baked her own cookies in Home Ec class and was so proud for me to try one...but I was going hardcore on keto and I apologized and told her I couldn't eat it. 😩 I could tell she was disappointed. Why didn't I just take one bite?? I definitely feel that I have alienated myself socially on countless occasions during my on again/off again keto journey these past 4 years. It's definitely harder when you have kids. Still looking for the right balance now 🥴

I'd say that even meat nowsdays is not really natural, devoid of many things and with broken ratios (for example, grains fed beef omega6 to omega3). I missed you guys so much my gosh the boys are so big and adorable. I am glad you are doing better Megha I have a chronic illness diagnosed at 20 and I'm 51 now it has been a long hard road those who aren't chronically ill really have no grasp how many challenges we have physically mentally emotionally I fought everyday to do as much as I could when my boys were younger they are in their 20s now and help care for me as I am on oxygen and use a wheelchair. I carried guilt anger and sadness when I was younger about the cards I was dealt and the chronic pain was so debilitating. Once I really decided to face it head on and kind of mourned the disease free life I was never going to have and embrace each days new normal with a champion spirit that was really the turning point for me in mentally freeing myself and my focus on living it the very best I was able each day. Wishing you guys all the very best looking forward to seeing more of you 💓
