    What Is Peritoneal Dialysis?
Peritoneal dialysis, which is also known as PD, is a type of kidney treatment where the peritoneum in the abdomen is used to filter waste and excess water from a person's blood. The word "peritoneal" refers to the membrane that lines the inside of the abdomen. In PD, a fluid called dialysate is put into your abdomen over a catheter using either gravity when lying down or pressure when sitting up. The dialysate flows through the membrane and absorbs wastes and excess water from your blood. Your blood then carries these wastes and extra fluid out of your body when you urinate. This type of kidney treatment is used for people who have severe chronic kidney disease, especially those with end-stage renal disease (ESRD).
Your kidneys are your two organs located in your lower back or your flanks, and they are responsible for filtering your blood, cleaning out excess toxins, getting rid of excess water from your blood, and balancing out your electrolytes among other things. Unless you have at least one functioning kidney, you cannot live unless you have some form of renal replacement therapy or kidney replacement therapy, such as a kidney transplant or dialysis.
    Types Of Dialysis
Now, there are a couple of types of dialysis, you have in-center dialysis or hemodialysis, where you actually go into a dialysis unit at least three times a week for several hours. And then there's another type of dialysis that you can actually do yourself in the comfort of your own home, and that is PD or peritoneal dialysis. Now, if you have to do dialysis, wouldn't you rather do it at home sweet home?
    So today, we'll discuss:
    Benefits of Peritoneal Dialysis
    How Does Peritoneal Dialysis Work?
    Types of Peritoneal Dialysis
Types of Access for Peritoneal Dialysis
How to Control How Much Fluid Is Removed From Your Body with PD
    Complications of Peritoneal Dialysis

Thank you for taking the time to do a lecture on this topic. Most doctors cut corners when it comes to the welfare of the patient. Does the doctors make sure the port is working PROPERLY BEFORE they discharge the patient ? Procedures are a huge problem these days because they are not performed properly and the patient ends up in the emergency room only to be told nonsense like "follow up with your doctor"

Great video. However, you neglected to discuss drain pain which is very real and very painful. I am a PD patient who has yet to be able to sleep through each cycle of nightly dialysis. Hence, I sleep 2 hours at a time, every night. This has gone on since July of this year with no end in sight as the drain pain persists. Consequently, I stay sleep deprived.

It does hurt, as I also get TIP pain. The nurse redone my program on the dialysis machine to leave a small amount on drainage. The pain has eased so much. They called it a tidal program.

I thank the Lord Jesus Christ for you passing my way, whom I sense you know by the fruit I see you bare. Grace be with you and yours, blessings I pray upon your service to him and his Kingdom. See you at his wedding banquet.

Hi doc, thank God that I came across your vlog. Thank you for your videos. I was wondering, instead of 3 days of dialysis, can it be only 2 days of a dialysis. How to know if the dialysis patient kidneys is working. Do they have to do the test to see if the kidneys are working if they are getting dialysis.

I'm in stage 3 Kidney Desease. I've been doing good with 25,000 MG of Crandberry capsules twice a day. Lots of water with lemon. I've tried everything but still having trouble getting Ecolie in the Urinary track. I can go for a couple of years without. My issue is I'm chemicaly sensitive and have multiple drug allergy. I was diagnosed in 2014.

Sounds like you have a fistula because otherwise you would not have E coli in the bladder
