I can't believe how out of touch Nintendo is with their audience; they try to make us forget single player fun and miis and turn a complete 180 on what made the games great in the first place; after winning any game in NSP, something I kept wondering was; what was I playing for? the cosmetics are cool and all, but that's not at all what the previous games focused on. improving and grinding until you were deemed a worthy opponent to whoever was the champion in their sport was a great motivator, but in NSP you will still face the same uninspired enemies with the same difficulty, while wearing something different now. And why are they focussing mainly on online, it's like they tried to ride the wave of games focussing on online, with improved tech and online compatibility, but this isn't Mario Kart, Smash or Splatoon(perhaps bad comparison, but you get the point). Online wasn't at all what the earlier games focussed on(bc it was the 2010's), they made the most of what they had. Single player was the main focus and the different modes, split screen multiplayer and easter eggs were just the cherry on top. I also don't get why they got rid of the iconic Sports games art style, it takes away so much of the charm and character out of the game, they could have remade Wuhu island in HD but decided to create a whole different (imo kind of an uninspired) place, but what's the point if you can't even explore it, it just feels off and out of place. I wanna do a sword duel in an open air arena, not a college campus. But imo the most infuriating thing about this is that *they didn't even add the top sports from previous entries into the game* ; boxing, basketball and baseball aren't here, WHY ARE THEY NOT IN THE GAME, those were the most popular and most liked games and they ditched them in favor of new games that who exactly asked for. it'd be fine if those were added on top of the other games, and that brings me to my other point, why are there only 7 sports in the game compared to WSR's 12. How could they've expected anything after release, not seeing all these flaws. I wonder if during testing, did they ever have 2 TV's in the HQ, one with Switch Sports on it and the other Wii Sports Resort and were like "yeah, these games are from the same franchise"

I have been a huge fan of wii sports resort since I was a kid. Every time when I had a break I spent almost my whole day on it just to climb up higher in the ranking, defeating the champions, and end with a flight in the sky of Wuhu Island. NS sports just lacks all of these things that make me explore the island for hours without even noticing the time.
Also I have to complain about the AI in NS sports. Unlike the Wii one they have a ranking system that make sure the AI opponents would be around the same level as the player every time to make it keep challenging but also not too hard, the only difficulty in NS you can choose is either too easy or too hard. That's just not engaging anymore. I gave up after I few time I tried to play hard mode of chambara. It felt so different when I finally defeated Matt in Wii after years of enjoying struggle, compared to constantly being defeated by random AI in NS.
Maybe the only thing they did great on NS sports is the online playing, but I DID NOT JOIN NS ONLINE. How the hack can nintendo release a game only relying on online playing?? They even didn't do it on Mario Kart. They totally forgot the players who just want to enjoy the game by themselves. Everything just went so different and wrong in NS sports.

The Wii with all its games felt so passionate. There were a ton of new games making great use of the motion control and the games were really fun with friends and family. And since the Wii is quite dated by now, I recently decided to buy a Switch in hopes of getting an even better experience thanks to the new hardware. But as it turned out, the games feel quite lazy and uninspired in comparison. The first game I got was Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. And that was my first tip off of how uninspired all games would feel. And sure,it looks gorgeous, there are new maps and features, the gameplay is fun and it is still always a good time just playing casually with friends and laughing with each other about how incapable everyone is to complete a lap pf rainbow road without falling down. But if you look at the details it falls flat compared to the Wii version. Firstly I had almost no motivation to complete the cups because all the characters are unlocked from the start. And the carparts will be unlocked for collecting coins. There is just next to no reward for getting all three stars in a cup. Also, in the Wii version, after you completed a cup, you would see a little cutscene of the top 3 players on their victory lap which would then pan into all the drivers and guest standing on the home stretch with the 3 best drivers standing in the podium. Now after you played a cup you see the thumbnail of the cup and the leaderboard. And sadly, it looks like it is the same thing with Switch Sports. The original game was a sports game with a clear incentive to animate you to move a bit, but it was full pf character and passion. From dropping the bowling ball over the fans reacting when you shot the tennis ball into their stand to the training and challenges modes. Also it was just a good game in general. The Boxing in Wii Sports is to this day the best boxing game I have ever played and the general progression with the skill level rising an falling based on your performance might be one of the best difficulty selector in all of gaming. You could compare yourself to friends, you could see your improvement, and you had a great incentive to keep grinding a game. I still remember losing to specific Mii in Boxing 3 times and always getting a bit nervous when I got back up in my skill rating and knew I would face him again. Also I can still remember my joy and how proud I was after I finally beat him. Now with the new game I guess the graphics are great and the controls are really precise. But what am I playing towards except to kill some time. Why should I grind a specific discipline if not to overcome my virtual nemesis?
I really home Nintendo will at some point get back to making their games as passionate and charming as they did with the Wii. Not only because I would enjoy it now, but also because I would want my kids to enjoy it. Because its these little details that make it unique and worth remembering. I can still remember being proud of myself after beating my Dad for the first time in Mario Kart. Not because my Name stood higher on the Leaderboard, but because my character stood above his on the podium and the whole grid was cheering. I still remember dropping my first ball when bowling, not because there was an embarrassing message telling me again how to throw the ball, but because my whole family was laughing tears when all the Miis jumped up in panic because nobody expected it.

Multiply that by 12, thats 27 minutes for 1 single game. 27 minutes of doing nothing for 1 game of golf, even going 2 games of golf is 54-55 minutes, nearly an hour. And that's assuming everyone even makes it in the hole in 3 strokes, not including people who need to do more because not everyone is the same in skill or they accidentally stroke into water.
You see how much of a problem this is? Its full commitment for little to no payoff aside from seeing your name advance on leaderboards. You can clean your laundry in around the same time as it takes to play 2 games of 12 hole golf. Yes, in isolation 30 seconds isn't much time at all, but once you add factors like that and its no longer about the 30 seconds, its about wasted time just waiting.

I'm still holding out hope for at least one more mode. They don't stop updating these types of games until the "last major update," and if Mario Maker 2 and ACNH have taught me anything, it's probably going to be huge.
Hopefully they bring back Showdown, but combine it with the movement system from Soccer to create an arena-style showdown, and they could even do a Survival Showdown for online.

NS Sports really just feels like a soulless cash grab. It lacks any charm or passion in the original game and Resort. Honestly Resort is tought to beat, but on Switch? In 2022? Nintendo really messed this one up. Especially considering it wasn't even a complete game at launch and follows Nintendo's recent trend of releasing content later, like Golf.

Chambara is the worst sport included because the movements are stiff, in the sense that if i want to swing, i either swing with a set animation, or i don’t swing at all. in Resort, it follows your exact movements and if you so much as touch your opponent, it counts as a light hit. In Chambara, if I swing, it always registers it wrong, usually even swinging in the wrong direction

They could have combined Wii Sports Club and Wii Sports Resort and made the best Nintendo sequel possible to date. They left out baseball, boxing, basketball, archery, and even frisbee. They had the blueprints and made what I think is a cash grab and a mockery of its predecessors. Imagine a cycling race online versus twenty others or a pickup basketball match with AI or online players as your teammates. Making GOLF a DLC package is just insane.

I actually like how Nintendo is moving more towards a modern design language with Switch Sports, and I rather enjoy the outfits/customization that the game has. Nintendo has been quite ungrateful to motion gaming. Look at the sales of games such as: 1 2 Switch, ARMS, Super Mario Party, Ring Fit & Switch Sports. All these games have in common million in sales & low effort/resources put into them. Profit margins are probably way higher than most other Nintendo games.
Now if these games start declining people will fault the "motion gaming fad is over", when in reality Nintendo didnt put the effort. How is it possible that a 2009 game 3 console generations apart is far supeior than Switch Sports?

Tbh, I’m not a fan of this direction. It’s a little something I call ‘scale creep.’ Trying to add too much fluff to a sports collection can make the game feel less focused and it just leaves less time to actually polish the sports themselves. Go Vacation feels more like an open world sim game first, and a sports compilation second. Despite having a lot more mini games, they aren’t as fleshed out as most of the ones from Wii sports resort. That’s admittedly most likely by design, but it’s partially why I don’t really see it as a spiritual successor to resort inspite of the inspiration. Ultimately though, even if you could find a way to somehow tie an open world to a sports collection without them feeling like segregated experiences it probably wouldn’t feel like wii sports anymore since its pick up and play aspect is one of its most recognisable qualities.

But I still enjoy the game just as much, just for different reasons I guess and I guess I just also really enjoy whatever type of game go vacation is. I guess what you said makes sense! because the things I enjoy about go vacation more than the sports games you can play is actually the scavenger hunting for hidden chests and customizing your own house and earning achievements and just in general enjoying the environment especially with multiplayer!

Cons: No offline progression, limited customisation, not enough side modes, needs more exploration
Feels like the biggest issue of this game is that it feels disappointing after Resort than the original more than anything. There is a genuinely great game and concept here, it just isn't fully realised, might be one of the few people who doesn't mind the sports mates. I even wondered how a "Switch Sports" title would do if it was the first two games remade, upgraded, and sold on the Switch, or if the game was treated as entirely separate from the OG series, even if comparison is inevitable. I know some people may look back at it fondly in a few years (like the Wii U)
