There's a deleted scene when the "native Hawaiians" are driving the Stotches to their hotel, and when Butters sees some actual ethnic Hawaiians and asks "Who are those people?" the "native Hawaiians" tell him "Those are just some Mexicans. They're harmless."

Did you make the turn your first try?
This is unusually a very personal episode to me. I was born in Hawaii during my dad's time in the military, and I was told stories of being the whitest boy in the hospital that day. I then moved to Colorado right before preschool, and went back to Hawaii on tour later on my life, only to see the divide between the natives and the "natives." Butters literally had the story of my life 😂

I love how eloquent Kenny is while he's writing those letters back home.
2:42 Stephen's "biology" explanation for Butters' change in behavior, his reluctance to talk about it to outsiders, and Butters' need to return to the place of his birth are an homage the "Amok Time" episode of the original "Star Trek" TV series when Spock was going through Pon Farr and needed to return to Vulcan.

The word Haole is hilariously misused in this episode in the perfect way. At least in my Grandfathers day, it actually refers to what native Samoan Hawai'ians call the poorer white population that live on the islands and can’t afford to leave. It’s basically a term for “Hick” or “White Trash”. So the affluent American families calling tourists “haole” adds a whole other level of tone deaf and ignorant.
No Haole is used towards any white person the reason it’s ironic in this episode is cause they are super haole too

I am a Haole I spent much of my youth with Native Hawaiians. 😂 this hit hard. To this day, much of my Ohana (family) lives throughout the Hawaiian islands, and they absolutely call it Ha•vi•ee. Mainlanders move there for two months and try to claim everything. 😂I never saw this episode. Thanks for the upload.

My Grandfather took my Father when he was around Butter's age and moved from Hawaii to Wisconsin. As a Physician, I feel confident and saying none of this is true 😂😂
The roundabout commentary in the episode is interesting when you delve a bit deeper with regards to the "Native" Hawaiians and the colonization leading to it being made a U.S. state. It was its own nation for at least a century
Hawaii's history is so weird. The islands weren't united until 1795. And although the King that unified them was native (properly native) he was supported by Americans who he gave lots of land to. Because they wanted land to build churches on, in classic American fashion. So Americans have always been there, since it became a nation.
This eventually led to these "natives" (the white ones) overthrowing the monarchy about 100 years later. As the US looked on from a warship, menacingly. Which is what I think this episode is about.
I like that the only costume change kenny has when he travels to hawaii is he removes his gloves
I was fortunate enough to have been stationed on Oahu from 2000-2004 and I relate to the "natives" so well. 20 years later I still feel the urge to move back there permanently someday.

This i got to be the funniest things I've ever seen. An American, not just an American but descended from slave America from Africa, highly educated, learns Japanese, lives on one of the islands, huh? My favorite South Park duo is Cartman and Kenny.
In the movie, South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut, after Cartman gets done explaining how awesome the new Terrance and Phillip movie is, all the kids leave to go see it.
With just Cartman and Kenny left, Cartman turns to Kenny and goes: "I hate you Kenny."
My favorite joke of the whole movie, I love their relationship throughout the show.

As a haole who spent a lot of my developing years on Kaua'i, this is one of my favorite episodes. They even depicted most of the local places spot-on, lol.
