When doing preacher curls open your shoulder more. 90 degree to chest. And don't look at the mirror.
I can't seem to get any mind muscle connection with preacher's?
Imagine you are squeezing an egg where your arm folds at the top and when you are extending your arm, go a little more than halfway before a full extension but no more than that. Try not to use your shoulders because they are naturally stronger than your biceps and will give you the illusion that you can lift more than your bicep can actually manage. Also, if you feel like your veins are about to pop then you are doing it right but the bicep doesn't need much weight to grow so anywhere between 10 and 25 pounds will still get the job done. If you can lift more than that by all means but after 35 pounds you are kinda pushing it and can cause some injury especially at the extension point of a workout. Biceps are a small muscle group after all so focus more on reps rather than weight.

It should be done 12 to 15 times and in 4 sets.. So, totally 12×4 = 48 to 15×4 = 60 times.
