Just a heads up, in this video when you re-install the silver home bracket, it's installed the opposite way as the original placement (compare 2:36 to 7:45). I found that if it's installed the same way as the video, it makes the home button feel "loose" or like it was installed incorrectly. May want to add a note to the video for your viewers. Cheers, - kdugas06
MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE HOME BUTTON ON CORRECTLY LIKE HE MENTIONS.
Everything else you need to know about replacing the cracked screen on your brand new apple iPhone 5s is shown in this video. This video shows how to replace the whole screen as a unit, (digitizer/LCD combo). It is pretty easy to do this repair yourself. No need to pay someone else a ton of money to fix it for you. If you have any questions on how to replace your shattered iPhone screen, make sure to leave them in the comments below.

After 2 hours of swearing every living thing of the world, I finally made it
lmaoo same well done
thats my kind of repair too...
😂😂
Protip if your screen is so cracked that the suction cup doesn't work, use scotch tape to make a handle width wise, then reinforce it with tape running the length of the screen. Works quite well
Thank you, it took me about 2 hours but I fixed my son's broken lcd screen for about $25!
So cool! Good job with the repair.
lol I just Spent only 12Dollar to get a new Lcd
My dad literally fixed his iphone 7 plus for $7 he just ordered screen and replaced it very easy he didnt have any special tools like in this video
helo
Thank you so much! I am not a techy person at all but I fixed my phone screen with no help and saved $200! You are literally a lifesaver- I didn't have many issues but did strip a screw on the home button bracket, so some info on how to help that problem would be great, that problem added some stress and an extra 45 min to the fix. I ended up breaking the old screen plastic backing around the screw and undoing it from the backside because nothing was loosening up the screw! Keep it up!
Thank you for such a great and easy-to-follow video! My niece broke her screen, I found a replacement online for ~$30 and by following your video, I was able to swap it out successfully in about 45 minutes. Easy to follow video, saved a lot of money doing it myself, I appreciate it!
I can just put this video on and leave it running in the background. Such a soothing voice.

It's called ASMR my friend, and yes, I think his voice is soothing too.
His ASMR voice is made for this! SO RELAXING TO WATCH this video.

Seven years later and you are still the best
Thanks dude! 7years later and your work is still of great value. You weren’t kidding about that last fn hinged bracket.😭 nice work
Thank you for the video. I was able to get the screen replaced on my son's 5s. Took me about two hours. I can see why they sell screens with parts attached. It was a bear and those screws were so small. The "lego' connectors were a pain to get aligned. I was afraid I would mis-align and smash them. When my 15 year old saw what I had to go through he said "sorry dad, I'll try to be more careful". He busted his GBA... but that screen was a whole lot easier to fix, once I got the correct screen. Blessings John 20:29
Followed this video, actually replaced my battery and home button while at it, too. This was a great guide. It took me a loong time though! Common mistakes some people might make... not transferring the metal plate, not taking the thin protective film off of the back of the new screen unit, losing screws, pushing too hard to try to get something to re-snap... not quite re-snapping something correctly...if you are just careful and thoughtful about where you are keeping the screws, you should be fine. Worked for me! Great video, but this dude makes it look easier than it is. Each step is a series of very tiny coordinated movements.
You NEED to do a quick edit as you replaced the home button retaining plate the wrong way round.
Thank you so much! We were trying to figure out why the home button wasn’t springing up for 2 days, and I happened to scroll down and see your comment. You’re a life saver!!!
What’s the right way around?
@@nicbray1673 at 2:22 you can see the plate in correct position
my new favorite youtube comment, that was driving me mad
So glad I checked the comments before taking it to the repair shop. Didn't know why home button wasn't clicking
45 minutes on my first try. Saved me about $80! My daughter kept nagging me to try it so I ordered the digitizer/screen from Amazon, and I'm so glad I found your video. Thanks!
Excellent and easy to understand walk-through of this repair. 30 minutes and a bit of patience (and non-shaky hands a bonus) saved my iPhone 5s. Thanks so much!

Fantastic tutorial with key specifics for beginners ! - Thanks Jerry, successfully implemented. FYI when placing the home button bracket on towards the end make sure to read the subtitles :)
Zak Man Thanks for catching those subtitles! A lot of people miss them. And I am glad you were successful!
Just want to give a huge shout out to Jerry for wonderful in-depth yet quick guides on iPhone Repairs.
I was able to replace both my iPhone 5s battery and screen with the help of this video.
However, I too installed the metal plate of the touch button the other way round which made me re-open the phone to fix the home button issue.
Also, since mine was a refurbished one, it didn't have the tiny metal piece in the touch ID kit but I guess it's not a big deal since so far all functions work perfectly!
Thanks again Jerry and keep up the good work. looking forward to more videos from you (especially iPhone 7 is around the corner)
Jerry has the best videos! Fixed my friends iphone with the help of this video.
NICE! Thank you. I'm glad you got it working.
JerryRigEverything hi there pal where will I be able to get a decent iPhone 5s screen from?

You remind me of Mr. Beast lol. Nice
yay it works! although i had one left over screw... ill just ignore that
good
There's always a left over screw at the end, haha!
or one short, in my case

Am stuck at Apple logo screen after replacing the screen. Cannot update software and restore to the factory setting.
Oh, three things for the next user of the video. 1) very useful to get a pair of tweezers and slap a small magnet on the shaft of the screw drivers!
2) small error in video
The bracket on the home button was reversed during reassembly at the end. I discovered that I wasn’t getting a nice click on the home button.. that was the reason why 3) that tiny metal thing on the home button cable with the screw is important to put back in the right direction(mentions in passing in video!!). If it’s not correct, there appears to be a grounding problem that prevents bootup/battery charging. I couldn’t get device to power on, that and the bracket were the only things I needed to redo to get things working!!!
I'm going to try this as my first phone repair next week when the parts come in. Thank God for people like you Zack, this will be a fun project for me.
Thank you very much for the tutorial!! Fixed my phone very quickly.
Don't know how a video like this get 500 dislikes. explains everything so well thanks for the video

Worked for me!Except for the home button shield it should be the other way around or else it won't be actually pressed (the click sound)Thanks for uploading :)
Thank you so much. Geez I thought i broke it.
Glad that i helped
Cheers ;)
Mohammed Baban same happened yo me. Damn video 😡
I was sure I had broken it.
***** yeah
What if I put it the other way and there is still no clicking sound? :(
It's cool to see how much he has changed in his demeanor and commentary.
Thank you for this great tutorial! I got the shattered screen replaced relatively quickly and easily. It’s perfect!
THANK YOU. My daughter's phone is as good as new with your help. Suggestion: I rolled up a small piece of masking tape, stuck it to the thumbprint sensor hinge, and stuck other side of tape roll to my pry tool. This allowed me to snap it into place. Seemed pretty quick.
Awesome suggestion, that worked perfect!
Great trick! Worked perfectly. Thx.
09/2019 & still using 5s 16gb 😁
RND OP me 32🤣🤣
RND OP 01/2020 still using iphone 5 16 gb 😕
4-22-20 - Still using a 5s 64GB. I placed my phone inside of a LifeProof case, with an aftermarket wireless charging coil. It must have flexed the phone, because the top of the screen is pulling away. Luckily, it will probably be an easy repair and I have all of the necessary tools, as well. If it’s not repairable, without replacing the screen, I still have my wife’s identical 5s, to swap with. She’s currently using an iPhone Xs. As long as I can keep this 5s going, I’m not going to spend another 600 to 800 on a replacement phone. I mean, I love iPhones, but damn.... the price! I paid less for my first (used) car!
I know this is old but still running my 5s 16gb (I dropped in water so many times ) in 2020
05/20 still using 5s 16gb
Thank you. Just performed a screen replacement for the first time and this video talked me through every step. Perfect!
Thanks mate. Great instructions really easy to follow. cheers
i just wondering the repair apple stores skips the final step or just put randomly
hi i accidentally snap off the other piece at 1:56, it looks like it was connected to the battery now it wont snap back on. is there any way to fix this
edit: its the small one of the left bottom corner, plz help
Good to see uploads still serving the community in late April 2020. Thanks!
My iPhone 5s was in major need of a battery and new screen. Both of your videos helped out tremendously. Infact they were so detailed I didn’t have to look at any one else’s videos. I feel like I have one of the last iPhone 5s out there.
Great video, just wondering, how often and where should you replace the oil?
id reply but my phone is at 2% and about to turn off so shit but idk maybe once 50k mjles
what oil??

Another successful repair to an old phone formerly out to pasture and now a prezzi for a mate with a phone that's keeping her in the 90's - thanks so much!
I just finished repairing my iPhone 5S with your video! Thank you so much! It took me a bit longer than 11 minutes, lol, but I'm very happy to have my phone working again. I used the link to the site for the screen and tool kit, $30 and an hour of time are so worth it!
thank you so much I save a lot of money and great instructions . God bless you man.
+Ruth Oscar Glad I could help!
is there any way to fix a touch of button
Very thorough. Great step by step instructions on a fairly scary and tedious project. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much, that helped me fix my little brothers iPhone 5s instead of buying him a new one, he is going to be so happy!
I replaced screen but screen does not respond, volume key and lock key don't work but home button works. What might be the problem is ?
The problem is most likely one of the 3 connectors that are under the tiny metal plate at the top of the phone. Go back, remove the plate and reconnect them.
Hey, thanks so much, this was a great video and helped a lot. Also, for anyone out there, if you put everything back together and the finger scanner works but the home button itself does not, check to make sure you didn't put the plate that cover the home button on backwards. I did and the home button didn't work and I couldn't figure out, but then I found out it was on backwards, so there you go, helpful tip.
Thank you so much! I replaced my smashed screen on my 5S in half an hour with no problems! After replacing the screen, my touch id stopped working, but after some time and a reboot my Touch ID started worikng again! I'm so happy! Thank you Jerry!
I have no tech abilities whatsoever and was able to replace my screen because of this video. Thank you!
My 5s screen is non responsive and i thinks its one of the digitizers thats messed up because the screen is kinda pop of at the top and I took it to a local phone repair shop and they said Id need to replace the whole screen does that sound right? Thank you
Same thing happened to me just now bro, a cheap screen that i had fitted in a couple moths ago has become unresponsive and the top of the screen is slowly coming off. Going to try this tutorial now :)
good video bud, it shows all the wee fidgity bits. i can just imagine me tryin that with my fat fingers and improvised tools. petrol and a lighter would be my preffered tools
This was probably the best video on phone repair that I have watched and I can assure you that I have watched a bunch of them. (tech support) Good clear video, honest communication regarding removing and replacing the components and very concise. I will look for your videos when I have future needs for knowledge transfer. Thank you very much.
Just used this video to replace my screen. Watched it a couple of times before I even ordered a new screen and had the video on during the procedure. Incredibly useful.
Everything works well again. I'm very happy. Thanks JerryRigEverything.
You've put your metal home button plate upside down on 8:16
+Quinten Bent I saw the same ;)
+Quinten Bent yeah i saw it if u do that it wont work as good clicking the home button
+G-UA-cam its bit tricky loll check out 9:00 he removed it again.
+Quinten Bent Yeah this screwed me over so much, i took it apart again and smashed the glass screen putting it back in....
+Harry Smith that sucks
sir. I replaces the screen, and when I power it up I get the white apple logo showing it is starting up, but after a few seconds the screen goes to blue and restarts back to the white apple booting up again. what does that sound like to you?
Oops I guess I could have posted what I did wrong. I put a wrong screw in a wrong spot. I removed it completely and it has been fixed ever since. Almost a year now.
brooooo where did u order the screen from
25-30 mins and the screen has been installed, camera fine, finger print scanner fine, and ear piece fine! Great instructions! Very Clear! Tip - keep your screws organised, long nose tweezers are great for picking up screws that fall into the body of the phone and if you have access to another phone/tablet, use it to take pics of where brackets/plates screws go.
Thanks JRG!
Thanks so much. Really appreciate the clear and concise instruction.
We had an old iphone5s and hoped to switch the screens at stage one but seems like also doing the home button was essential.
WARNING: I advise you to not use this video to repair your iphone, it has at least three mistakes/missing steps which I have noticed (and could have even more I didn't, I'm no expert). 1. he does not tell you to take ambient light filter/front camera place holder from the old screen and place it on the new one. 2. he also doesn't mention to peel off the anti static film (usually a reddish colour) from the new screen before fixing the plate on. 3. he even puts the home buttons' bracket back on, but the wrong way round! I'm not hating just advising as luckily I watched this but then decided to watch the 45min vid on youtube instead. I'm actually quite sure there was a few other things but I'm not bothered to rewatch it just to point them out, it's your choice now.
R0DSTER Fair enough. 1) Doesnt need to happen. 2) Common sense to remove any packing materials that come attached to the screen (There is also a clear protector on the front that needs to be removed usually.) 3) You are correct about the home button bracket. I have corrected that in the video description, as well as video annotations, AND about 100 times in the comments. I do appreciate your comment though. It'll help others see my mistake, hopefully.
Just followed the video and it worked perfectly. Everything was common sense...
I appreciate your help from the video tutorial.. one watch-out you might add to this... when screwing down the the two screws over the home button bracket, only tighten half way down. If you tighten completely, it makes the home button unclickable. Otherwise great job on the video:)
DUDE I FUCKING LOVE YOU
That was incredibly easy to follow and helpful! Thank you!!!
Perfect tutorial. Thank you for taking the time to post.
6 Years later...This is recommended for me🤣🤣
HOME BUTTON PLATE THE WRONG WAY AROUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Super helpful! Made the screen replacement go super smoothly! Thanks!
Thank you... you made my daughter a happy happy girl!! and great instructions!! Thank you again!!
Need help. 5:12 what is that sticker on the back of the screen? i rip mine apart from the rest of the camera part
right when he said "the less you break the better" too :(
should i buy that whole part new?
+Another You are fine. Just stick the sticker back together, copper touching copper. It is only a grounding sticker. Not a big deal.
+JerryRigEverything copper have to touch each other? kinda hard since its tiny but ill try
Im screwed. I put it all back together now but it wont start, when i tried starting it, apple logo appeared for couple second than black out and theres also 3 vertical in the middle on apple logo.
i tried holding down the power + home button to no avail
Make sure the screen and battery are connected correctly.
how do you connect the screen and battery correctly?
"Just like Lego's"
My ass! Legos were never such a pain for me lmfao
Have you ever stepped on a lego? Huge pain in the ass
XD
You my friend have been an amazing help, thank you!
Thx for another great video. I used to watch yours first because they were listed first on UA-cam and had the most views. Now I ONLY watch yours. After 7 repairs on 3 different iPhones, you are still my goto instructor. (I subscribed after the first). Thanks again.
he put the home button on upside down guys...
Why am I watching this? I never owned an IPhone, don't have an intention to do so, watching this on a Samsung, and never planned to fix anything.
You make scary stuff not so scary! Great video as always!
wonderfully helpful. Changed my screen and was good as new. I had to double back bcuz the touch screen connector came loose.
My only suggestion is to identify the connectors such as flex cable and touch screen, etc. if you did that and I missed it nvm.
THANK YOU SO SO MUCH!!!!
Thanks for the video. But you installed the bracket for the home button the wrong way. Check 2:27 and then 7:43
So my iPhone 5s cracked but I have another 5s that not cracked can I just take that screen off and transfer it ??!!! Please need help!!!
Like without removing any parts on the screen just take the screen and putting it on another device because my phone cracked so hard the front camera broke and button !!!
uh, yea. if that's your set up, i don't see what wouldn't work.
S
hell yea thats perfect
I'm going to do the same, did everything work? My concerns was if the iOS is going to read another camera and finger touch.
Thanks for the Vid. I’ll be doing this when my screen arrives. Also replacing the battery. The old one was soooo stuck! Cheers!
Just replaced my 5s screen/digitizer...and it worked!! Awesome video, and great step-by-step instructions!
bro can you fix my phone
aaaaaand crap my phones broken
go complain somewhere else
Maya Clarke. I just fixed one steps were easy to follow. Great video once I was putting the screen back though BOOM there went the screen... But it was because the top right corner of the phone frame is bent in :,(
....oh well...
Great video though.
Thomas huang is a bitch
Did you disconnect the battery?
Legendary video! First video I found for 5S specific cable that runs from the home button straight to the main body. All other 5 just pop right open and lift screen straight up. You saved me big time!
I had two iphone 5s phones (both broken screens and digitizers. About 45 minutes for the first one (forgot to take plastic off the digitizer) and 20 minutes for the second one. Better than the pros that fixed our others. Thanks - videos were clear, concise and very informative.
I can't connect the digitalizer idk why Apple made this shit so difficult
It takes me about 30 - 45 minutes for an iPhone 5 or 5C

Thanks Jerry, I could not get to your time of 11 minutes, ended up being closer to 45 min, but got there in the end, I found the last metal plate at the end was the hardest, and just could not get the screws in, so chucked it out! my daughters phone is working great. the cost of the total repair was 12 pounds!!! Thanks again, great video.
Thanks a lot for this step by step tutorial. It helped me perfectly.
the top portion of my screen is lifted off the screen even when I push it back in
Mine also, were you able to figure out how to fix it?
@@kailanatwick push harder seriously mine was doing it too
it look a lot easier to fix a 5 then it is to fix a 4
It is, Apple messing with their buyers haha. Check out the battery replacement on an iPod 5...
+Luke Armitage even easier to fix a 6
I've just done a 4s just fancied a go I'm a chef so no experience in electronics what so ever the hardiest thing was putting the 4 little screws in the corners to fix frame to screen.it's so easy you could make yourself a little business
Luke Armitage Yeah those washers are a piss take to get in well. Best to use a magnetic screw driver. Doing the screens on a 5 or above s much easier as the screen is the first thing to remove to disassemble the phone
Thank you for the tutorial sir, it's really clear and helps me a lot..
I just want to say THANK YOU! SO MUCH!
Thanks for the tutorial, just fixed my smashed screen. It took a lot longer than eleven minutes and was super emotional as experiences go, especially since I had to re-open it because I hadn't clipped the touch screen ribbon in properly but it works great now. I do however need a large glass of wine to steady my poor nerves. Couldn't have done it without you though!
This helped. Thank you for the tutorial.
Did not quite expect this to work- thanks Zack you made my Sunday
Learned a lot, thanks. You have a very calming voice which helps when I am annoyed about having to repair intricate things like these.
