To know that all the middle earth story came from one person’s mind is mindblowing. All the details almost made me believe this is a documentary, not only a lore
Thank you! :D It was probably my most difficult topic to research so far since the info is spread out across so many books and passages, though I'm really happy with the way it turned out.
"Guards were set at the haven of Moriondë in the east of the land, where the rocks are dark, watching at the king’s command without ceasing for the ships’ return. It was night, but there was a bright Moon. They descried ships far off, and they seemed to be sailing west at a speed greater than the storm, though there was little wind. Suddeniy the sea became unquiet; it rose until it became like a mountain, and it rolled upon the land. The ships were lifted up, and cast far inland, and lay in the fields. Upon that ship which was cast highest and stood dry upon a hill there was a man, or one in man’s shape, but greater than any even of the race of Númenor in stature. ‘He stood upon the rock and said: ‘This is done as a sign of power. For I am Sauron the mighty, servant of the Strong” (wherein he spoke darkly). “I have come. Be glad, men of Númenor, for I will take thy king to be my king, and the world shall be given into his hand.” And it seemed to men that Sauron was great; though they feared the light of his eyes. To many he appeared fair, to others terrible; but to some evil. [J.R.R Tolkien, Christopher Tolkien, The Lost Road and Other Writings, p.73-74] I like this verse. Sauron is literally toying with the 'mighty' Numenoreans lol
Both Tale of Years in LotR and Unfinished Tales specifically say that Tar-Minastir was the king who sent the fleet to help Gil-Galad in 1700, even though the Heirs of Elros in UT says that Tar-Telperien ruled until 1731. It will be interesting to see how the Amazon series will explain this discrepancy. My guess is that there will be a political strife between isolationists and interventionists in Numenor that will lead to Tar-Telperien temporarily abdicating the throne.
Thank you SO much for making these videos! Not only are they informative in the lore, but the presentation is really good too! Going to have to watch this again, so much to take in.
I may be alone in this, but I feel a great deal of empathy towards the Numenorians even when they attacked the Valar. Manwe, how can you impose a ban without coming off as a tyrant? Treating humans as children that need to be protected from themselves is almost insulting. There's something exciting about humans marching in revolt against their gods, while in fact they were subjugated by an evil god themselves.
What an excellent video! I learned a few things, and that’s rare given my years-long Tolkien obsession, haha! In particular, I had no idea the Wild Men of Dunland had been driven there by conflict with the Numenorians or that the Mallorns of Lorien came from Numenor. Bravo!!!
Recently read about Aldarion and Erendis' tale in The Unfinished Tales. The history of Numenor happens to be one of the best parts of the legendarium of Middle Earth.
This is one of my favorite stories. Great video! I surely hope they cover the Numeoreans in Amazon’s new series, that would be epic. Nonetheless, I just hope the series is done right.
Better to have the promise of a greater, immortal place to believe in than to know the world the immortal elves would live in forever. Makes Arda seem like a prison for the elves, why would mankind want it since the creator didn't even live there and had made another place for you? It really means mankind had little faith; but if you know for a fact that immortals exist and they don't claim to have made the world, than the one that does can be banked on.
All I could think watching this was how incredible this would be for film or TV if done right. It certainly looks as though Amazon will be dealing with some of the peoples mentioned here. I just hope they realise that throwing money at something isn't a substitute for good writing and direction. Also, this is my favourite video so far, utterly gripped!

It’s almost as if Men were too flawed to be given such a gift as they were given. Almost, since Aragorn and others turned out well. It’s like the Numenorians were given such great blessings and it drive them mad.
Of course elves were captaining the ships. And I bet the elves were allowed to live on Numenor if they wanted to 🙄 I'm telling you, elves were definitely favored!

Could you make a video explaining why death is supposedly a gift to men? I never understood that and the men of middle earth certainly seem to not agree. Maybe you could also include the conversation between Finrod and Andreth
Because it's a gift of freedom. Men don't belong to the world, they are only visitors in it. Their ultimately destiny is somewhere else. Because of this, as long as they're not afraid of death and don't cling onto the world in panic, they're free of the world and free of destiny, free to use their short time in it as they please. But when you lose your sight of this larger picture, of the unknown adventure that awaits you after you pass on, or you lose your faith in Eru's good intentions and good plans for you in that unknown adventure, then your gaze turns solely to the world - it starts to look like the only thing you have, and you become bitter and jealous that you have less in it and less of it than the Elves. Elves, by the way, are actually in the same boat. Their existence in this world might be unending... but this world isn't unending. They know one day this world will be scrapped, and they don't know, what happens to *them* then. So they too have to just trust that Eru has good intentions for them.
In war it's certainly an advantage because it means men aren't as celibate and prudish as the elves. Elf birth rate is almost none existant as they don't die unless killed. So every elf soldier who dies in battle is pretty much a permanent loss. Men die anyway so even if they lose a huge amount of soldiers or their kingdom takes a tremendous blow. In about a century they will have recovered.
@@Imperialistic82 You may be right. Yavanna and her Maiar seeded the land but the plants must have been protected from insects to grow and flourish in a short time. @@lordebrazen look, its not hard to figure it out it probbly would be a disaster, why you ask? because of the woke political times were living in. so yeah, if they dont leave that shiat out, it will be a cringe fest, unbearable to watch
I feel pity for the numenorians because they showed the great capacity of what humans can achieve when united together for a singular purpose or goal but their fear of death slowly changed their outlook on life and like many of us in this life they no longer appreciated what they had and it caused their eventually defeat.
To be fair, this is a classic case of some immortal God promising something but seemingly misunderstanding the flaws of it's own creations. As in letting men suffer disease, death and ruin while never actually showing up to support that they will ever receive anything better. Meanwhile their elvin bretheren live long, healthy lives as well as having mysterious powers. Kind of negligent
Well The elven messengers from Tol eressea or even eonwe could have told them, that they are not immortal because they would lose their gift. Some would probably nonetheless turn against the valar but they would be in the minority. That is why I take pity on them.
@@ScreenFiends I think they just did not know better. For example if eonwe Herold and messenger of the valar did not mention this why should the elves think they have to. Or maybe they thought that the men of Numenor already understood this.
They we're a great people with magnificent and beautifully inspiring qualities about them bravery, loyalty, the arts, knowledge, wisdom, deep understanding, sailing the seas , and a yearning and taste for adventures would of loved to see them in their glory lol 😎
Something I wish Tolkien had done a better job of; taking the polish off of the elves. Eru Illuvatar wanted the two peoples to be different, yet when the time came to reward the loyal Edain, it was done by making them more elf-like, as if that would make them even more jealous later. If he could change them, then why not even more, they might ask, and make them even more like the elves? He let the elves live in the Undying Lands, but also on Middle Earth, yet the Men were denied this same gift. The elves were basically perfect, and it got annoying. We understand that there were legitimate reasons why Men couldn't live in Aman or Valinor; it wasn't made for them, and they would have suffered there. The elves also eventually had to return, or diminish, so they couldn't just spend eternity in Middle Earth, but they could stay a long time, and many did, erecting another double standard. When the elves had to leave, it never seemed to trouble them as much as it could have. Did they have no attachment? Would they not regret forever carrying just the memories of someone they knew they'd never see again? It was bad that the Men would come to curse their own gifts, and lust after those of the elves, but even though both were made by Eru Illuvatar, the perfect elves never seemed to struggle with their gifts, or want other things, and it just added to the perfect image they are sometimes gated for. Maybe if they had seemed more like a scale in balance, and leas like a climbing peak, with the elves alone at the top, things would have been better, or if the elves had just always been in the Undying Lands, where they seemed to belong, instead of also being in Middle Earth, seemingly without consequence (though there were), they wouldn't have seemed like such a great thing to aspire to, and more Men would have been happy with their lot. Maybe not; they are based somewhat on real humans, and we can be selfishly greedy at the best of times, but... As a second, how did the Numenorians "strengthen" their navy? Apart from just building more boats, and maybe figuring out better sails, I don't get it. Even dwarves never figured out cannon, I don't think, and most people's Magic was subtle, or downplayed. I doubt they had casters setting fire to enemy ships, or devout people calling on the Valar to affect the seas, so then it just seems they'd sail alongside other ships, board and savage, and be done. As well, I'm uncertain who else had a decent navy to fight, some nor the elves? Oh well.

I will only quote from Tolkien's works. In the Silmarilion, it is said when Men awoke, the Valar did not know this. Morgoth gound the place that Man awoke, and sent his servants to spread roumor and fear into the hearts of Men. This seed would spread even to the Edain. In the Second Age, when some of the Edain went to Numenor. Alas, the works of Morgoth do ever fester, and the Dunedain began to become unsettled by their mortality and the Ban of the Valar. This led to Numenor's down fall.
Sorry i'm late i really can't wait to see the fall of numenor and the new armor design of the upcoming series.Hope we wil also see some magic fire from the swords or arrows like in the games.
If I could travel to any place and time in Middle Earth's history, I would go to Númenor in the Second Age and try to prevent its corruption. A Númenor that never rebels against the Valar and is never destroyed could have stopped Sauron in its tracks.
Great Video! Unfortunately Jeff Bezos is Sauron, so he'll likely destroy all hope of this being translated well into an Amazon show as he continues to destroy all hope for small business. Too bad Elon Musk doesn't have a film production company yet.
If you think Musk is your saviour, you should look into his inheritance of apartheid mining money, his busting of unions and threats to journalists... Oh, and he has 3 minor design patents to his name. Everything else he has bought... Ironically, the name of his purchased car company is "Tesla" when "Edison" would be far more fitting...
This was very well done so thank you. I worry about any tv serialisation of any well loved literature. The Witcher being a good example. I wait to be surprised by Amazon although my hopes are not high. Too often well loved section's are butchered. Others are omitted entirely. A myriad of excuses pour forth. I suspect Amazon will try and follow GOT's sex and violence route to try and sell it to the lowest common denominator. Going back to Numenor, if they had turned their eyes east instead of west they could have done great things. They could have ventured to the far south and brought vast areas under their purview. Stalling Sauron and weakening his influence. Of course this is all dependent on what they do once Sauron is captured. I imagine it wasn't within their strength to execute Sauron. Personally I would have delivered him to Aman and said here you go, one of your own, you deal with him.
Question: why did the rings need to be recovered? Doesn't that just negate the the slow indoctrination they were ment to accomplish? Is there a secondary function that Sauron need from the lesser rings besides making thall?

And I don't trust as mentioned, the makers or Amazon, to have any backbone to keep the series original, true to the sources of Tolkien's work and clean. Gatekeep! Always Gatekeep!

I really enjoyed this rich video a lot, thank you...
Could you add a list of artists with the timecodes at which their work appears?
Awesome job , and yes I hope this is in the show.
@@florianbarkowski6856 That's pretty cool, do you think the elves would have not been allowed to tell them for some reason?
@@ScreenFiends I think they just did not know better. For example if eonwe Herold and messenger of the valar did not mention this why should the elves think they have to. Or maybe they thought that the men of Numenor already understood this.
They we're a great people with magnificent and beautifully inspiring qualities about them bravery, loyalty, the arts, knowledge, wisdom, deep understanding, sailing the seas , and a yearning and taste for adventures would of loved to see them in their glory lol 😎
Who would win? Elves at their glory at the beginning of the first age vs numenor at its best?
I think the Numenorean army of Ar-Pharazon was stronger then anything seen in Middle-earth except the both armies of War of Wrath.
Awesome video! I hope to see this.
THESE ARE THE BEST VIDEOS!
Great video
Thanks Tomasz! :)
Oh well.
I miss scarl 😣
it's Karl though :'(
@@GeekZoneMT I know, i just got stuck on it because i thought your pseudonyme was Scar, and Scarl has more of a YAAAR over it, you know? Scyaaarrrl! No but ok i will stop saying Scarl out loud.
I am currently on an island with a population of 9,000 humans and 90,000 sheep and on the same day a video gets released about an island people coincidence!
Probably
Just be careful of the sheep buddy, sounds like you guys are outnumbered ⚔️🐑
@@GeekZoneMT well I don't think they are working for sauron or morgoth
Although that does sound like a somehow vey effective strategy to conquer the world have your enslaved sheep kill all the shepherds then the other sheep and suddenly a food milk and wool source are removed
Yeah it's best to just play it safe 😂
@@GeekZoneMT I am very safe except when I am not
@@EveryoneElseIsWeirdImNormal Are you sure they are sheep? They could be wargs in sheep's clothing!
If mortality is such a gift, why weren't the Numenoreans given shorter lifespans instead of longer ones?
A longer mortal lifespan is still a mortal lifespan, only extended. The Gift of Men also goes a bit beyond death, iirc.
so much hidden wisdom in these stories
That artwork 👏👏🤘
If this story is visited in the Amazon series, I would be extremely happy and already know I will enjoy it 👍👍👍
It would be amusing to read a Post Colonial history about the Numenoreans :-)
Very interesting video to watch
Cheers mate, I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)
I think this video is better than the amazon show will be.
Please, please make a video of the Wild Men/ Woses😀😀
I will only quote from Tolkien's works. In the Silmarilion, it is said when Men awoke, the Valar did not know this. Morgoth gound the place that Man awoke, and sent his servants to spread roumor and fear into the hearts of Men. This seed would spread even to the Edain. In the Second Age, when some of the Edain went to Numenor. Alas, the works of Morgoth do ever fester, and the Dunedain began to become unsettled by their mortality and the Ban of the Valar. This led to Numenor's down fall.
I love the numenor content.
Holy shit. Great video man.
Sorry i'm late i really can't wait to see the fall of numenor and the new armor design of the upcoming series.Hope we wil also see some magic fire from the swords or arrows like in the games.
You'd have thought that the Valar would have learned their lesson, after all the damage that bringing the Elves to Valinor had caused.....
Maybe he'll be pre-corrupted Sauron 😂
@@GeekZoneMT
That would be nice, but after Bezos released his ultra woke policy for Prime, I doubt it.
Who is the artist who did the picture with the burning white tree flag near the end of the video? Timestamp 22:25-22:40.
Thanks. Oh 24 min nice
Nice video i enjoyed it the show thats coming out on amazon wont bother me i cant get it
Deym. Very good story❤️
Part 2 please
Question: why did the rings need to be recovered? Doesn't that just negate the the slow indoctrination they were ment to accomplish?
Is there a secondary function that Sauron need from the lesser rings besides making thall?
Who is the artist of the picture at 10:00 min into the video?
hey thats Varyan Wrynn song ! does that make a Varyan a Numenorian ? =)
It sucks ar-pharazon let his pride decide his people's fate.
AMAZING
Wow Just wow I learn things who think knowing
Does anyone know how long the War of Wrath lasted?
Very nice....
Make Numenor great again!
Lord, for such a magnificent race the Numenorians were so corrupt, at least after the beginning.
21:57 "I love the Elves, I love Eru Iluvatar [...] The Numerorians will be reorganized into the first Galactic Empire, for a safe and secured society!"
Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul,
I am sure this was something Sauron had the Melkor Priests say before they sacrificed the Faithful to Morgoth.
What is your DaC TA Total War faction stan?
Elrond and Elros weren't 1/2 Elven they were 3/4 Elven.
Are there no subtitles on this one?
It should be there, is it not showing up? I can try and reupload it?

Wow! If any of this story is featured in the Amazon Second Age series, then I sure can't wait to not watch it.
What's this new amazon story everyone talks about
Personally. I don't trust Amazon of the makers to do a good or creditable job to the upcoming series. There's already to much political screeching and other nonsenses, to subvert and ruin the franchise. And I don't trust as mentioned, the makers or Amazon, to have any backbone to keep the series original, true to the sources of Tolkien's work and clean. Gatekeep! Always Gatekeep!
I completely agree. There will be little integrity in it. Most of the effort will be to please the currently ruling political hierarchy. Just like Hollywood. I won’t be watching.
Very good video, well done. I will definitely not be supporting the WOKE version of Aarde.
Ummmmm, maybe Not using an artistic depiction of Colonizers coming to the shores of native lands at 11:03 with that specific verbiage, comes off a bit *acist definitely
