They were fantastic. What a vibe! Benjamin Orr was 1 of the best lead vocalists in rock history, imho. He left this world way too soon. 🌟🌈

Ben sang that live like it was the easiest thing to do. What a talent! RIP
Even when he was older and not feeling well, he still had it. I only wish UA-cam and social media was bigger when he passed away; we would have way more "modern" content from him. There are a few bad quality videos that exist, but not much from before he passed away.
He was born for the stage……just a natural. His voice is always just as good or better than the albums as is the rest of the band.
he had years of playing live
First time I saw this but I noticed how effortless he was with the bass, playing complex stuff while singing and having a good time and barely looking at it. The mark of an unusual talent for sure.
He came across as quite a shy guy in interviews, amazing that he can stand in front of millions world wide for this ❤
I'm secure enough in my masculinity to say this...Ben Orr was a very handsome fella and very talented...may him and Ric R.I.P. 😢
Ben was the man. Man. ❤🎉
Yes...Ben was the One ..
Lol. There's a Roger Taylor-ish handsome vibe about him. Ironically, given what was happening over the water.
And he died on (SRV) Stevie Ray Vaughn's birthday. Who actually died a decade prior to Ben Orr. Truly heartbreaking. Both way too soon.
Here Jan 9th 2025 this band never gets forgotten even though two legends are now playing above us , amazing
Elliot Easton, one of the more underrated guitarists in history. He was on a roll in this video. Legend.

Elliot y Ben hacían una super dupla!

Great outfit, too.
After all these years I am just finding out what an amazing guitarist he was.. because of Elliot I I'm a way bigger fan of the cars than I ever have been

We had no choice...am I right?
@@rob1973able I don't feel that way. Little Glitches (i.e. how the band echoes on the chorus "....needed ! ") makes the song human.

RIP Ben and Rick....
What an incredible band The Cars were. God, we need a group like that now!!
You can say that again. I stopped listening to the radio in the late 1990s.

I can only dream of being that cool for five minutes of my life.
Benjamin is one good looking dude man..
Talented
Ben Orr was a beast on stage and a very humble person at the same time. Amazing and handsome man.
A fantastic bass player it’s so hard to sing lead while playing bass at the same time; he makes it look easy though, a true professional.
@@KittyGrizGriz You are so right about that!
If you were to look up the definition of "underrated guitarist" you would see a picture of Elliot Easton staring back at you. Amazing!
Totally agree!!
Was just about to write this....
"Underrated" is thrown around a lot on youtube, but Easton definitely is, quietly performing his fantastic feats out of the limelight.
I think he was the blueprint for a LOT of American rock guitarists, who may not have even realized they were in someone's wake.
Miss Ben Orr, he was the total package, gorgeous and talented 😘💕
Man, that’s a great, great live performance!! Tight, tight playing man! Great vocals!
I'm 54 years I've loved The Cars since I was 14 on a bicycle with my Walkman. Damn they are good.
Benjamin is just completely unbelievable and just untouchable in every aspect! “ HIS IN A ZONE UP ON THAT STAGE “ Look at the confidence when his singing, smiling as his just killing it with bass, vocals saying to everyone “ Yeah I’m just that freaking good “!!!! Killer performance. One of the best guitar solos ever and he nails it here. RIP Benjamin and Ric.
Easton is flat on the first bend.
@@davidwhite8220 and? so? when was the last time you performed in front of 90,000 people with a TV audience of 1.5 billion? He wasn't the only one who f*&ked up on the day.
@@mixelspixels He didn't "nail it".
@@davidwhite8220 it's rock and roll. nailing it doesn't mean pitch perfect all through out. and what are you talking about first bend? solo starts on a bend. if you mean that then he was bending it fine. it's a half step bend for chrissake. he did a flat bend a bit later on but it wasn't the first bend.
@@dominicijavier1575 Errors or pitch and timing are errors. And the "first bend" I refer to means the first of the pair of phrases that are metrically parallel. He does fine on the second one. But I am pretty sure that hitting the first one flat was not his objective.
Ben really steals the show here, his voice and stage presence shines through over that crowd.
Great performance by everyone in the band. Absolutely stunning how good the Cars were at that moment.

Agreed. My favorite Cars songs had Benjamin Orr on lead.
May have been the coolest guy who ever lived.
Lead singer is perfect . Stage presence, great voice, perfect pitch. Super good looking , he is the talent .
Ben sang in front of the thousands and thousands. Almost a quarter of a century later....we are still listening, watching, from our teens in the 70's to now being senior citizens on AARP...whodve ever imagined him gone 22+ years. The immortal Benjamin Orr. The immortal CARS.
Hi Laurel💐💐
Absolutely !!!!!!!
Thanks for the wonderful music Ric and Ben.❤
Cars were always at their best with Orr on the mic
The Cars first album has to be one of the greatest rock albums ever released!!
These guys are world class --- one of the very best pop rock bands.
I cried watching this
Way ahead of their time!
The Cars were the greatest band of the decade. Everyone else was fighting for distant second place.
what a voice and his presence, the camera loved him
@Israel Ramirez - I agree completely! It’s too bad Ric kept walking in and out of the shots of Benjamin, fully blocking the camera *at least* twice! I don’t understand what was going on with him. Ric usually virtually planted himself stage left (on the right for the audience). What a time to choose to go rambling around on stage! Yet, a comment I saw recently said Benjamin and Ric each stepped back when the other was singing lead, to “share the spotlight.” I guess Ric didn’t get the memo.
I agree ...the camera loved him ..he was stunning
The 80's had some amazing songs, and even though you think it's a synth song it's the guitars doing all the work. Maybe whats more amazing this was future music in the 70's

@@jorgeenriquez9047 it was played in the LATE 70s but got more popular in the 80s ° the CARS were a huge 80s band regardless of the fact that all 5 members didn't even make a record till '77 or '78 ° actually that comment was 100 percent correct for CARS addicts ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I think this is my favorite performance of all time! RIP Ben, thank you for the great music and the joy you gave to us.
My favorite Cars vocalist🤗
First concert I ever saw was The Cars in Philly at The Spectrum in August of 1979. I was 12 years old, and just about to go into Junior High School. My father took me to that concert because I listened to that first album 'non stop'. Fast forward 6 years later and Live Aid happens, and I'm 18 delivering pizzas in the Philly suburbs just before college. Live Aid was playing on my radio in my 1973 VW Beetle, and EVERY house that I delivered pizza to had Live Aid on their TV sets. I never missed a beat! It was a HOT day on many levels! Good times.
I've returned to this song/video so many times. Keep coming back. Benjamin - man, what a vocalist!
I remember watching this on tv at the time it was live broadcast...we watched the entire Live Aid concert and these guys were a definite highlight. Such great band and Bennie was such a great singer...sorely missed. 💔

Ric and Ben get most of the attention.. but as a guitarist, I have to give a shout out to Elliot Easton. He's criminally underrated. What a talent he is!
Elliot is a sensational guitarist - absolutely underrated but has a growing legion of fans even to this day!
I saw an interview with him and he was kinda fanboying over the cars.
His performance here is off the charts! Love his look here, too!
The depth of his skill is not revealed in hyper action but musicianship.
I don't believe that the guy ever missed a note when playing in his entire life.
