On this date, I was a U.S. Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton, California as a young 21-year old Marine preparing to deploy to Southeast Asia for 4 1/2-months. Our first port-call after departing San Diego was Subic Bay, Philippines and next was Fremantle (Perth), Australia as well as other awesome places in the Orient. Everywhere we visited, all of the clubs were playing The Cars music. The 80's was an absolute awesome time to be young. I am 60 now and very much still young in spirit and in attitude. Wow, where did life go? ------ Semper Fi!!!!

We made regular WestPac's on the Ranger to the places you listed above and I remember all the great American music played wherever we port called. Great times.

Funny thing is, back in the 1980s, there was a vocal minority saying that 80s music lacked soul and was dead.
“Why can’t we have music like the 1960s where music changed the world” was their cry.

Paul I Everybody says that about Elliot Easton, which means he isn’t underrated. In the beginning he slouched and wore very baggy shirts. If he had worn tighter clothes and had better posture he would have had lots of attention on stage and he knew that. Obviously, that wasn’t the persona he wanted. I like his personal style in this performance. It’s all in the past. Everyone who listened knew he was/is a great musician.

No one but Elliot could carry us away with beautiful solos, and give The Cars his signature work.!They are absolutely a perfect fit in each song. Inspiring work. Thank you Elliot Easton!!

I remember watching Live Aid with legendary performers including U2, Dire Straits, Queen, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, and of course the Cars. Who would have imagined we would be reliving this historic concert so many years later on UA-cam. RIP Ric, say hello to Ben and Eddie.

Led Zeppelin were the real under performers , Bowie, Queen and The Cars blew them off the stage as much as I love Zeppelin!

No puedo entender que existan 13 personas que no les gusta este tema de esta excelente e inmortal banda.
Obviamente no tienen idea de musica. Menos de lo que significa tocar en vivo.
    Grande The Carss

Late 70's bands like Blondie, the B52's, Devo, and The Cars helped usher in what we now call 80's music. I think they deserve more credit than they get.
