On this date, I was a U.S. Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton, California as a young 21-year old Marine preparing to deploy to Southeast Asia for 4 1/2-months. Our first port-call after departing San Diego was Subic Bay, Philippines and next was Fremantle (Perth), Australia as well as other awesome places in the Orient. Everywhere we visited, all of the clubs were playing The Cars music. The 80's was an absolute awesome time to be young. I am 60 now and very much still young in spirit and in attitude. Wow, where did life go? ------ Semper Fi!!!!
I was an airwinger going to A-school at NAS Millington, TN on that date. My first duty station after framp was MCAS El Toro, just up the I-5 from you at Pendleton. We made regular WestPac's on the Ranger to the places you listed above and I remember all the great American music played wherever we port called. Great times.

@@wysiwyg8066 Back at you brother. The 80s were a great time to be in the military. I served in the Corps from 1982 to 2002. I served on Marine Barracks duty in Subic Bay from 1986 to 1989. AWESOME times indeed. I live in San Antonio, Texas now. But I lived in the Philippines from 2012 to 2016. My family and I go back quite often. ---- Semper Fi family!!!!
My brother was stationed in Long Beach (1990-1996) 3rd ANGLICO Airborne during Desert Storm. Thank you for your service to our great country!
Oh station in Germany up near Bremen We went to a friends house and watched it from England and then we took a break and then we turned the TV on and washed it from JFK in Philadelphia there it was an all night party is almost as good as being at both concerts
Thank you my brother 🙏🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

I met Ric in a elevator at the Holiday Inn next to Mile high stadium, 2:00am, on 6/16/1979. I'm 5'9, so when a 6'4 guy in boots and big hair, sunglasses and a nice suit walks in, you take notice. He was a little nervous but talked to me for a couple minutes. We talked about the concert they were headlining later that day. Very cool guy.

What a wonderful time to experience life on Earth. Im ever glad i grew up in the 80s.. The word really sucks now. Just being real. The music is nothing like it was back then. Not even close. Its Dead.. It was Aliv back then. And Real! Love and Peace to All!!!
To be honest...this song is MTV generated junk.
You’d be surprised. Today there are so many genres and sub genres that produce wonderfully vibrant and diverse music that is like nothing created in previous eras. Modern music is much more than mainstream pop, and I urge you to dive deeper into contemporary music, because there is a plethora of amazing tracks, albums, and artists that are put out every day.
Wow.. When someone comments their own personal opinion. There are always a few Trolls scavenging through the section to try and tell me that im not allowed to have it. Do like i have, and leave your own opinion. My ears and my taste are exactly that. MINE.. Its a treasure to me to ve completely honest, and i do not have the time to dive deep in todays music. I am nostalgic and set in my own ways. Lol.. I dont understand ones need to try and put two sense where it was not needed. So Honestly i like this song just the way it is. MTV rotated and All. Todays music does not interest me at ALL.. And its not going to change. Im glad y'all like what y'all like. Keep on being independent thinkers and dig what you dig. Because you know what? I CAN DIG THAT..
@@RobertFairweatherMusic I felt like everything after Candy-O lacked the heart and emotion of the early Cars. This song, Heartbeat city, has some of that emotion and artistic magic of the early Cars songs. The lyrics and music together paint a picture in my mind about a girl and time that Ric is trying to relate to the listener, a thing that Ric successfully did in the other great songs that he wrote.
Funny thing is, back in the 1980s, there was a vocal minority saying that 80s music lacked soul and was dead.
“Why can’t we have music like the 1960s where music changed the world” was their cry.
There is some good music out today. It’s just a little harder to find. The record industry doesn’t market it very well.

Ric actually sounds better live than on the record. Thank God these guys finally got in the Hall of Fame, they were masters! Elliot Easton is a criminally underrated guitarist too.
Elliot Easton knows music, he went to Berklee College of Music
Paul I Everybody says that about Elliot Easton, which means he isn’t underrated. In the beginning he slouched and wore very baggy shirts. If he had worn tighter clothes and had better posture he would have had lots of attention on stage and he knew that. Obviously, that wasn’t the persona he wanted. I like his personal style in this performance. It’s all in the past. Everyone who listened knew he was/is a great musician.
Without Greg Hawkes, this band would have never made it. He had more to do with the overall Cars sound than anyone.
I personally texted the R&R HoF committee and laid them out for not selecting the fan favorite band, The Cars
Elliot Easton’s career is far from over. No one who plays guitar 🎸.and listens to Elliot’s compositional solos, short or long, must be amazed. No one but Elliot could carry us away with beautiful solos, and give The Cars his signature work.!They are absolutely a perfect fit in each song. Inspiring work. Thank you Elliot Easton!!

He is actually playing to a click track...see the headphones?
And the bass drum is one of those awful electronic ones that were popular in the early 80s in the UK, the Americans caught up later on. Ugh terrible sound.
