Funny story with the RAM right. I popped open the laptop, found out it was using just a single stick so I thought hey I've got 3 other laptops on me right now, why not yoink a dual channel set from one of them? So I open the Triton 500, saw that the RAM is on the back of the motherboard so I closed it back up. Then opened the new Razer Blade Stealth but it was soldered on so I closed it back up. Then I took out the ThinkPad P1 but it's using ECC so the RAM is incompatible. Ended up opening the Triton 500 again and having to disassemble nearly the entire laptop to test this thing with dual channel.
Laptop still works, just had to insert the display cable 3 times and it took like 30 seconds to post. Also brought me to the blue windows repair screen but I just picked boot into windows and it seems to work fine. Date and time were like 3 days behind which spooked Firefox.

Could you please review Ryzen 7 laptop with Ubuntu. I am thinking to switch to Ryzen based laptop for better performance. I have to work on Linux as part of my job.
great video. I don't game, but I'm looking for a trading laptop. Would you suggest ryzen 5 or 7? also does the graphics card really matter, 1650 ti or a 2060 or is it more important to have 16 gigs of RAM or 24 g b rather than a powerful graphics card for trading? Thanks for your help
TDP rating doesn't equal to power draw. Just like Intel, Ryzen also has its own version of Turbo Boost. That's why you see higher power draw because it's cranking up the voltage to get a higher clock.
Hey there, very nice video man ! I was wondering if one could install ram from diff brands and memory on a single machine as long as it’s the same speed ?
You can mix and match any RAM. If the speeds are different, your system will just downclock the faster DIMMs to the slowest one. For example, installing 3000MHz and 2666MHz will force both of them to run at 2666MHz. Same with latency. Obviously this is not ideal so most people recommend against it, but there's no real issue with mixing speeds and latencies.
When I turned on my A15 (Ryzen 9) for the first time, it failed to boot around 4 or 5 times, it restarted on its own during all these failed boots, and succeeded on its own without my intetlrvention. The lights on the keyboard flashed a couple times, the Asus logo popped up, then just turned off with something that sounded like the hard drive/ssd turning off. Should I be concerned? I had charged it for around 2 hours prior to turning it on.
The crap response times for the screen on the ASUS TUF 15 was a deal-breaker for me. 15 - 30ms (maybe more). Every reviewer who has used the 144hz display has said they got slightly better results from the 60hz display - even though there is noticeable ghosting on fast-moving games. I went and spent the extra money on a Gigabyte Aero 15 with 4K OLED. Haven't looked back since. (Speakers on the Aero 15 have no Bass - but I use Gaming Headphones or a Dell AC511 Soundbar anyway if I want decent sound). Like the TUF 15, the Aero 15 has Dual Channel RAM (upgradeable), BUT it also has a 1 - 3ms screen response time, gorgeous OLED at 4K @60hz, much more solid case all around, individual RGB key assignment, great cooling, not much in the way of thermal throttling like the TUF 15. With it's Pantone-calibrated-from-the-factory display, 100% sRGB colors etc. games just look gorgeous!!! Decent frame-rates to be had too at 1080p (who would bother at 4K on a 15" display?). What's the point of ASUS putting a very fast CPU and reasonable GPU with Dual-Channel upgradeable RAM into a semi-robust case, if they're going to use a crap panel display? Madness.
nice! too bad the speakers and display are bad... that's the only deal breakers if the new nitro 5 has all of these downsides fixed, it's gonna be my dream (since my parents won't allow me to get something expensive duh lol)
I can forgive the speakers because most gaming laptops sound about the same, and they put the money towards a bigger battery (if you get the 90Wh battery that is). The screen, not as much. It's unfortunate, but I didn't harp on it too much because I didn't feel like it was particularly worse during normal use than the more common panel. Assuming you're not actively looking out for the colors that is. Speaking of, if you check out Lenovo's new Y740, I believe they're rating their 1080p 144hz panels at 500 nits which I haven't seen before. If bright screens are the new trend for 2020, that's big hype. It's soo nice to be able to crank up the brightness if and when you need it. Might have to look around to see if there are any other gaming laptops with 500 nit 144hz screens.

I couldn't find the wifi card on the motherboard. Even when they're soldered, you can still see them. I'd have to take apart the entire laptop and search both sides of the motherboard and under the heat sink in order to know for sure. So no, it's not easily upgradable to my knowledge.

I recently decided to make this my new laptop purchase however it is sold out everywhere. Do you understand why this is happening? Where did you get yours? Also, You did a great job of explaining the need for getting a dual memory configuration for me. Lastly, you mentioned making informed decisions about selecting the AMD ryzen vs the intel i7 or i9 based on the programs I’ll be running. How do I do that? I plan to run data analytics software and visualization tools and do python and Jupyter based programming with out using a VM.
I actually didn’t notice that this was a review on the A15. I assume that the A17 is just the model with the larger screen but the A17 is the one I want.
Nice review, thanks for that. Very interesting that you got a unit with single channel memory, I was under the impression that all A15s would come with dual channel as standard, since dual channel memory was advertised as standard on their website. Any way we can tell if the unit we're buying has single or dual channel? Before we get it, I mean.
I think overall quality the msi bravo is great for $900. Spec wise is slower compare to tuf but thermal arrangement is better. no heat in keyboard area.
too bad that the page up/down, insert/delete, home/end buttons are difficult to use... you need to toggle the numlock then use fn for some of them I know it's not for text editing and/or programming, but it you intend to use it for that too (besides gaming), than it's not quite the machine you need
I'm really curious to know if the games performance you recorded were thermal throttling or not. I would consider to liquid metal it if it was reducing clocks during your benchmarks. A reply would be greatly be appreciated, thanks!
It's probably cause the thermal paste is old and dry. I repasted my laptop and got a 10 degree drop so expect around 80 if you apply good thermal paste
Not bad actually if it get near 100srgb , pretty dam good 90whr battery , and a fantastic 8 core cpu i would not be surprised if this isnt sold out soon as theyre is crazy amount of nice laptops that are sold out especially the lower tiers onces so im pleasently surprised about this one being 1000 Very Very Very good !!! I wouldnt hesitate for 1000 this is better than the helios 300
My main problem with this laptop is when I game I can't max out my settings. If I do, it crashes and it's really irritating! If it doesn't exit the game, I get dx3d issues when playing games like Dragonball Z Kakarot. Even with settings on High, it crashes. What I did was installed Ryzen Controller and changed the TWP option from 25 to 15. It SOMETIMES crashes but I can now play for hours. Do you think it's faulty hardware? All drivers are updated.
1. Does this unit come with ram soldered to the board? 2 Do you think there'll be any better configuration. Ie duel channel mem, or 32 GB ram single channel 3200mhz later this year. 3 who was the wise guy that started soldering ram to the Mobo. I'v slept since the great recession.
Two SO-DIMM slots. Laptops usually come with all the available configurations at launch. Or they state that some options will be delayed but it will show up in the product page. Who knows, but it's silly on 15" high performance laptops. Bet my left ball that it doesn't make a noticeable impact on battery life or performance.
Didn't notice it normally but I do notice it now that I'm looking for it. Not sure what constitutes as good or bad, but there is a trailing effect. I'll add this to my list of things to test for future videos
@@InfinityLabsTech I'm pretty sure its cause of the panel type. Since it's a IPS Level. If I'm not mistaken, a few written review stated that it's a VA Panel. It won't too much pf a big deal, but something to keep in mind.
On 144hz laptop displays, we're normally looking for at least 3ms on overdrive. Even worst 144 hz displays have 14ms. It's clearly cost cutting. But even with that it's a good deal. I have an ips panel with 3ms on my triton.
So if u connect this machine to an external good monitor u are good to go. Ye, u only have it at home, but still pretty good deal :D Imagine a 144 hz, 1 ms, 99 % rgb, ips with 2k or 4k, u pick the size. Wonderful, right?

I couldn't find the wifi card on the motherboard. Even when they're soldered, you can still see them. I'd have to take apart the entire laptop and search both sides of the motherboard and under the heat sink in order to know for sure. So no, it's not easily upgradable to my knowledge.
Yes, as a matter of fact, I changed it today (to WiFi 6). It is under the SSD slot on the left side of the laptop.
@@derplizard6219 thank you. That is helps. Wonderful
I bought this laptop a couple of days ago but I have had so much work to do that I haven't had the time to explore it much. I hope I'll be able to do it in the next few days
Hi what do you preffer, asus tuf a15 8gb ram or the lenovo y540 with 4gb ram? Budget wise they are the same but i was wondering about the performance🙏
Honestly I've just ordered my laptop recently and after alot of research everyone told me that you need a minimum of 8GB no questions asked 4GB is just not enough
Love your voice dan the contents, tq bro
I have a question I'm curious since the iPad can function as a secondary monitor with the help of Duet app can the Asus laptop Best reviewed here work well with an iPad as a color corrected second monitor to solve the monitor problem if I may ask
I am CAD, SketchUp, revit, Vray and Lumion user. Is this a better option for the above mentioned workflow? 4800H + rtx 2060..
Secondly, I heard about 4900H + rtx 2060 model, any news on that as well?
Also will be using VScode
What about the $1000 RTX2060 laptops that Jensen announced? When will they arrive?
Nice review, thanks for that.
Very interesting that you got a unit with single channel memory, I was under the impression that all A15s would come with dual channel as standard, since dual channel memory was advertised as standard on their website.
Any way we can tell if the unit we're buying has single or dual channel? Before we get it, I mean.
Even my I7 8750H got up to 70 watts playing dying light in my Alienware m17
I want this for cyberpunk 2077 do you think it will handel a newer game without the thermals going crazy high?
Please next review laptop dell inspiron 5502
I'd like to add its really effective at swatting flies.
i loved that laptop but i just hated how they cut corners with the screen
are there any laptops in the near future with budget 1200$?
This is a perfect laptop for deep learning and I don't care about gaming
No. As it has ryzen processor
This is exactly why I want to get this laptop too! But the screen is really holding me back :(
SAXTON HALE! 5:39
I think overall quality the msi bravo is great for $900. Spec wise is slower compare to tuf but thermal arrangement is better. no heat in keyboard area.
Hm. I grew up on a color bubble tv that i had to beat to get any channel to work and any color to work. So. Yeah. Not too picky about the color
How does the display looks generally if you ignore the display's tech specs ?
Man for $1000 here in India they are giving the 1650ti with only 8gb ram :(
Saw a 16gb one on Amazon. They have been updating units from today. I guess just wait a bit and keep checking.
@@shivamagrawal4084 Man it's way overpriced here in India I think we will only get a good deal around Diwali which is so sad :(
Can you please tell me the software that you are used for the typing
I'm skeptical of anything that is put out during these crazy times. Do you folks think this product was rushed and not tested thoroughly enough?
too bad that the page up/down, insert/delete, home/end buttons are difficult to use... you need to toggle the numlock then use fn for some of them
I know it's not for text editing and/or programming, but it you intend to use it for that too (besides gaming), than it's not quite the machine you need
How long does it take when doing document files and watching movies only
I heard bonfire black is plastic while grey one is metal, is it true?
I bought it with RTX 2060 Ryzen 9 4900... Dunno if it is a good laptop or not
I'm really curious to know if the games performance you recorded were thermal throttling or not. I would consider to liquid metal it if it was reducing clocks during your benchmarks.
A reply would be greatly be appreciated, thanks!
Wait isn't 90°C considered bad? This thing was hitting it continuously.
Yes its really bad. It means the longevity of the laptop is short. Thats why i am not much of a fan of slim laptops.
It's probably cause the thermal paste is old and dry. I repasted my laptop and got a 10 degree drop so expect around 80 if you apply good thermal paste
u can always try throttlestop to lower voltages and have lower temps, no performance decrease!
not with amd
@@eviljesus5411 oh rly?? why?
I wanted to get one of these.....but when I saw the thermal results.....I changed my mind
Pretty sure you can reduce temperature by 10C each without having major performance loss
Asus and amd are on a roll
Cracking video
whats the game ur playing?
Is there a trackpad issue while scrolling?
What is that game you played on the video? I would like to download it :)

@@InfinityLabsTech thanks bro!
i dont know why ryzen laptops have such a bad screen
assuming i get the model with the wack panel , is it possible to just swap it with a better one or it is constricted to just one type?
Mine has been on backorder for over a month
They are expect for october. I ordered one too. The only one available is the one that comes with Nvidia GTX 1650 Ti.
@@InfinityLabsTech What brand was the stock 16gb 3200mhz ram that came with your unit?
Some reviewers say that there is some ghosting on the display. Have you noticed it ?
Didn't notice it normally but I do notice it now that I'm looking for it. Not sure what constitutes as good or bad, but there is a trailing effect. I'll add this to my list of things to test for future videos
It's the bad response times compared to usual 144hz displays
@@InfinityLabsTech I'm pretty sure its cause of the panel type. Since it's a IPS Level. If I'm not mistaken, a few written review stated that it's a VA Panel. It won't too much pf a big deal, but something to keep in mind.
@@morale3056 yeah, jarrod's tech made a review of the laptop and his tests showed about 20msecod response time, which I am not sure is bad or good
On 144hz laptop displays, we're normally looking for at least 3ms on overdrive. Even worst 144 hz displays have 14ms. It's clearly cost cutting. But even with that it's a good deal. I have an ips panel with 3ms on my triton.
Whats best laptop with good decent screen for content creation decent gpu 1660 ti or above Anderson 1100
Helios 300
@@carlaxeldinesen812but that's too thick and ugly
.which is better this or acer nitro 57DA?? same 1650ti..
Can i use android studio on this a15 8gb ram base varient with not much issues.
yes, absolutely .R7 4th gen is powerful enough to carry out any work except graphic design
No it does not support haxm
So if u connect this machine to an external good monitor u are good to go. Ye, u only have it at home, but still pretty good deal :D Imagine a 144 hz, 1 ms, 99 % rgb, ips with 2k or 4k, u pick the size. Wonderful, right?
Whitch is the duration the battery?
And this is the only laptop at this budget with these specs that come with 17" screen.
