just bought the laptop few days ago. few facts maybe you guys want to know: playing games on turbo mode and ultra settings makes the cpu/gpu temperature too much high. 95 average. on performance mode 80-90 average. but if you play it on silent mode and medium settings (sotr), your laptop stays within 70 degree, which is really nice. for those who want a budget laptop, definitely can choose this. just make sure not to play games for too long in turbo mode, this can reduce lifetime of the laptop.
My first ever laptop and gaming laptop was the Asus ROG G75VW which I purchased back in 2013 and still use to this day. All I've done is recently I added 2 more 4gb sticks of ram which brings the total to 16GB and a 250TB SSD. Other than regularly cleaning the fan filters and having dismantled it completely a couple times to clean the dust it's been a great product. I'm not sure if the quality of Asus laptops has changed today but I've been extremely satisfied with mine. I'm watching and typing this comment from my G75VW.
I like the different keys for the WASD. Great stuff on showing how easy we can access the cooling unit and mainboard for upgrades and maintenance. Maybe in future laptop reviews, can we see more of this aspect please?
I know this video is old but just saw this in the shop today and honestly I think it's gorgeous, I love the keyboard with the separated wasd. I want a laptop that makes me stand out from everyone else in my computing class and this is definitely it
Just if you need a better GPU. Not every software needs a 2070 super. You can have professional renderings with a GTX 1060, just cause some of the most advanced engines work with multi cores.
Well.. it depends what you are trying to do. If all you care for is raw CPU horse power without compromises, nothing beats the XMG APEX 15 and its full blown AM4 socket paired with a 3950X. But then, it weights a ton and the battery would only last you enough to save your stuff and shutdown the system, so that one is more like a LAN party machine than a "real" laptop. So, outliers aside, most of the manufacturers are in the eternal struggle juggle between performance, portability, lipsticks and pigs, and what matters is what works best for your specific needs. And yes, something like this would be more than enough for pretty much anyone in 2020, and at that price point it looks interesting even for a die-hard desktop fans like myself.
Definitely, So like me. The moment i heard of this G14 beast. One little boi cramming up everything that comes ahead of him. I was so much into buying that masterpiece. But this definitely made me re-consider my choice too. Even though G14 is way up my budget but still i was surprised to have a compact 14" laptop with so much more. I have watched over 15+ videos about how much better it was than rest of the laptops. I said now the only thing i need is this little beasty boi. And now I am seeing this and saying to my innocence "Steve Harvey Style "I have to Apologize....! :P " But still will have to see more to consider my choice since G14 won my heart already. I can't cheat him with this being even though better at some point but with lesser build quality, color accuracy, bigger size and design. I'll still prefer my beasty boi :P
My g14 arrives tomorrow. I think the biggiest factors for my between the two are the 1.7kg weight of G14, the way longer battery life made possible by the MQ GPU only sacrifising 2-3% of fps, and most importantly, the costmizable LED on the cover. For me, the TUF 15 is puely for gamer while the G14 is targeted for a wider designer/creators who would also like to play some games on the go, justified by the 1440p screen option which is what im getting. Both great laptops with AMD cores, just different use cases.

@@samsan3401 Had the choice between Nitro 5 2019 and TUF FX505 last year, here's what I found. Lack of type-C port on TUF, and in some regions, some Nitro 5 has 90+ percent sRGB screens. Also Nitro 5 has 2 m.2 slots, while still having a 2.5" drive. Build quality is quite similar, cooling is... Different (Nitro 5 has higher cpu temps but lower gpu temps)
@@nrgamingtech2797 but you're giving up battery size. I thought it wouldn't be important for me but it really limits mobility at college. The weight is still heavy compared to stuff like Dell XPS and HP 2-in-1s that my classmates have so I don't want to carry it around too much.
Sharing my impressions of an Asus FA506IV (4800H, RTX2060) I purchased in early Aug, 2020. Right away, the HDMI port did not work. The service centre ordered for a replacement motherboard. The part arrived within a week, which was nice given the prevailing pandemic. Now I hear that the replacement motherboard fixed the HDMI issue but occasionally (as the service technician told me) failing to detect the display. The service center has asked for a replacement for the replacement. Meanwhile, I wait for a final fix with a jittery feeling as to how long this laptop would really last.
An update. I got the laptop back from the service center in about two weeks. Have been using the machine for about two months. Its speed is impressive. Audio is excellent as well. Didn't notice much of heating issue. Fan noise is noticeable but not that I can't live with. Color reproduction is somewhat lacking, although I don't have a problem with that. Another irritation is occasional touchpad stutter. So far so good I must say.
@fifty YT Yeah the cpu is already better than my dead laptop with a i7 8750H and RTX 2060 and if you get the RTX 2060 model it is still cheaper than when I bought my laptop.
Watching graphs has never been so exciting! I loved how you slowed down the animation on the Gaming Load - GPU graphs as they neared the end of the test. Such attention to detail! ❤️
I have this laptop and the hinge is waay better than you showed off, quite interesting, maybe you should tighten your lid screws and might improve it. I mean that webcam wobble was crazy, I tried shaking and hitting the table and the screen didn't budge one bit. Nice review either way.
Nice to see that you share your love of cars with us Ebert. (: I want to say that thankfully AMD is staying with their M.O. Inexpensive yet plenty of value for the price of entry. If this was an Intel laptop, I would assume at least a 15% to as high as a 25% price increase. Just because of the CPU having a higher price. Thank you for this review Ebert. It was fun to watch. :)

4:20 To answer your question about the different WAS key lighting; I like it. I assume most gamers will have an external keyboard, and I have one on my A15. Even though a rarely use the laptop's keys, I like the WAS keys esthetically (asthetically?) The laptop can pass for a regular laptop, but the WAS keys are a subtle clue the the operator is a gamer. Hey bro, Nice video. I'd like to ask you a question. Is still a good deal buy this computer for $750-$800 dollars? Here in Mexico the Asus Tuf is in that price. I'm looking for a computer that runs Filmora 9, I'd like to edit in the computer cause I'm starting a UA-cam channel. Greetings from Mexico!!!
I'm still looking forward to a 17.3". ASUS has and will always be number 1 in my opinion. Thank you for the video. My mom loves her new ASUS Ryzen PC and mesh network that you recommended for a 5,000sqft house. I appreciate all of your reviews, from all of you.
Bought the TUF FX505DT in Feb. I knew this was coming, but urgently needed a laptop cz my 32-bit Dell Inspiron N5010 wouldn't let me work on my projects. It was between the Legion Y530 and the TUF then. This seems to be a beast of a laptop. Especially the battery. However, here in India, the price is much higher. Anyway, I'm happy. 😄
It's a gaming laptop. There are settings that limit the power usage, but to get the most out of the CPU and GPU, high temperatures in a gaming laptop are unavoidable.
7:35 Didn't you notice that the bottom of the laptop is pretty restrictive for airflow when you looked at it? There seems to be significant variance in this laptop from the prespective of cooling configuration which seems to depend on the region because Tim form Hardware Unboxed tested the same exact configuration as you and found thermal issues.
Quite a bummer that these AMD specced laptops always have some dumb thing going against it. Sometimes the aesthetic is wrong, no GPU higher than 2060, then shitty screens. Its just sad
The reason for the lack of many bottom vents is to draw in air through other components while cooling them at the same time. If you change the airflow path your cpu gpu might run cooler but other components will heat up and damage and you have also voided your warranty. I think thermal engineers at companies get paid for the a reason. They know about it more than our speculations.
3:30 That brushed look is pain to clean up, and insides show fingerprint so much. Dust gets into the little groves and the keyboard feels cramped to the left because of that numpad that people hardly use. And the WASD just kills the whole loook, yuckk. Wouldve loved little slips or dimples on the WASD instead of this eyesore.

Watched this and thought, wow that looks like a competent competitor for my next laptop, watched hardware unboxeds video, and now I don't trust hardware canucks anymore 😅
Yep. They actually looked further than just a surface look at the thing. No mention of the "gamery" look of the gaming laptop, but actually how well it's built and how the screen works. I've never understood why Canucks is so popular, they're all surface glitter no substance in my experience.
Its damn cheap, corners are cut for it to be.. I dont agree with their video until we see similar priced other options. The screen isnt amazing but for gaming on the go its fine.
I have the device. There is a Driver update to help the the Problem with the screen and for the Cooling it is really great. I watched the Hardware unboxed review and I am wondering what the hell is he talking about
No joke the component specs almost a year later are quite attractive to me. It beats my nearly 4yr old intel laptop by around 3.2x on CPU alone and ~$400 less. Not to mention the thermals aren't a joke like the intel one they put a teeny weeny fan in that throttles to 1.8GHz under full load. What a time for laptops.
agree, one slow USB for mouse on the right, every other ports on left or back. I'm using an external screen on my Lenovo, and that HDMI on the right is soo annoying.
For what it's worth, I get 4150 on Cinebench R20 with my G14. Not sure if that's because of bios/power profile updates since your review or just chip-to-chip difference but it's quite a bit higher than the 3770 you show here. 9:15
The lack of information and Dell themselves saying they didn't have any quarter launch plans is why in early May I preordered the TUF, but I really was interested in the Dell. Of course now I know I'd have to either not get the 4800H or pay more, but I still don't know if the Dell runs cooler, than the TUF. I made the guess it wouldn't, because the 5600M runs hotter than a 1660 Ti, but that was just a hypothesis, not a fact. I can't get still under warranty t.i.m. repaste on a Dell, either. They aren't offering the 5700M on the Dell yet, either.
@@bipbop3121 I was talking about Mohit singh he's Indian. I think 5700m will be coming at the end of this year . I'm waiting for 5700m notebook as well . 5600m with smartshift almost attains the performance of 2070mq so I'm guessing 5700m will have almost the performance of 2070 super or 2080mq .
It seems to me that Asus have made close to the perfect machine for college students. Relatively inexpensive for the power it packs, capable of doing almost any task that is thrown at it, long battery life for when you need to be away from an outlet or when all the outlets at the library are occupied, and good enough for any leisures activities you might want to throw at it. As someone in mass media I would only say the drawbacks are the screen and the lack of SD card and dedicated mic ports. But that doesn't matter as much to me since I can go to my college lab for iMacs to color grade, use dongles, etc.
Pls watch the hardware unboxed video review of this laptop, the thermal designs of it are really bad. It's better to wait for another OEM model laptop for this ryzen processor. This is something that not many reviewers go deeply and test even the screen is really bad.
What's your priorities? light weight? screen? cost? thermals? RAM upgrade limitations? Pros and Cons list and your priorities should clear it up. Or hey, whichever one is in stock at MSRP first, can't lose that way.
@P ROG gets certain things better for sure. When it comes to the delicate balance of thermals and performance, better check the data and understand it before proclaiming a victor. Especially, when talking about ultras or thin and lights, which make compromises. It isn't really a difference that matters, but I was surprised to see the TUF (4800H 45W rtx 2060) out bench the G14 4800HS 35W 2060 max-q. One can lower the power and temps on the TUF down the G14, but you can't change the internals of the G14, nor can it handle that heat, nor pack up to 64GB of RAM.
For everyone that's interested in A15/17, also, if you have SVM enabled (which is very important for me, app development), screen flickering occurs, which is very annoying
Can you do a review about laptops which would be best for photographers? Adobe RGB rating as close to 100% is super important, along with enough power to not take forever to edit large photo files. Potentially options in both 13/14 inch and 15 inch. Heavy laptops are not ideal being we have so much camera gear in our bag to start with and the bag gets heavy quick.
Ryzen mobile is magical when it comes to how it sips on battery. I've only used the prev. gen TUF gaming (the fx505dy) with R5 3550H Processor and even with only 44Wh battery i could got 4-5 hours battery while browsing and coding. it's just awesome!

I was trying to use a USB external DVD burner on my A15 the other day it wouldn't work with the USB 3 ports on it at all, but the USB 2 port worked fine. Great to have legacy support for those pick old devices like that burner.
Thanks for the review! Can you please add a segment when you're doing the webcam to note how quiet the machine is when doing work, or chatting? Sometimes those fans are poorly programmed and they make a lot of noise, say while watching a movie, which will ruin the experience.
yes. i do like a separate wasd, not just for gaming but also for work. photoshop keys sometimes either tactile or just keeping your eye on the ball thing. Also it's understandable to have wasd keys because it's catered for gaming community than the normal vanilla user. - to add..the usb2.0 port on the right side is used for external peripherals such as keyboards and mouse that's used for gamers that has to have a separate keyboard and mouse at home. so it's not needed to have a usb3 port for that side.

I don't know what problem do people have with gamery looks? Not everything needs to be slim, sleek, understated and boring. I literally use my Alienware as a work laptop and nobody gives a shit what type of laptop I have. playing games on turbo mode and ultra settings makes the cpu/gpu temperature too much high. 95 average.
on performance mode 80-90 average.
but if you play it on silent mode and medium settings (sotr), your laptop stays within 70 degree, which is really nice.
for those who want a budget laptop, definitely can choose this. just make sure not to play games for too long in turbo mode, this can reduce lifetime of the laptop.

Also I appreciate USB 2.0 because some legacy stuff actually acts up with USB 3.0
Just got this and I'm super happy with it.. Light years ahead of my previous 1050 laptop
I like the different keys for the WASD. Great stuff on showing how easy we can access the cooling unit and mainboard for upgrades and maintenance. Maybe in future laptop reviews, can we see more of this aspect please?

that review was WOW, so calming
I know this video is old but just saw this in the shop today and honestly I think it's gorgeous, I love the keyboard with the separated wasd. I want a laptop that makes me stand out from everyone else in my computing class and this is definitely it
This is proof that getting the laptop with the "fastest" CPU doesn't mean you have the best machine.
Ofc, better gpu makes a bigger difference
Just if you need a better GPU. Not every software needs a 2070 super.
You can have professional renderings with a GTX 1060, just cause some of the most advanced engines work with multi cores.
@@jacintofernandes2907 Actually, the GPU rule kinda applies here as well. A 2070 is crap if it's constantly thermal throttling.
Giuseppe Nativo oh you can but if its your lifes work youll want more performance to increase efficiency and decrease time
Well.. it depends what you are trying to do.
Did anyone else notice that very clean intro? The music and fade in, very solid guys.
Gotta admit, even if I had my eyes on the G14, this makes me reconsider my choices. Though I do. prioritize portability, this is still so good
Definitely, So like me.

Battery must be one surely.

XIsaacX l yes, yes it is, because there are little to no vents at the bottom, you gotta use it without the bottom cover if you want better temps
@XIsaacX l
Yes it will, alternatively, you can try making slits in the bottom cover for ventilation, that might void your warranty tho
@XIsaacX l see hardware unboxed's video of using it with and without the bottom cover

@@bipbop3121 thanks for the suggestion. The Pros and Cons list did took some weight off in choosing which model to buy in the near future.
For everyone that's interested in A15/17, also, if you have SVM enabled (which is very important for me, app development), screen flickering occurs, which is very annoying

yes. i do like a separate wasd, not just for gaming but also for work. photoshop keys sometimes either tactile or just keeping your eye on the ball thing. Also it's understandable to have wasd keys because it's catered for gaming community than the normal vanilla user. - to add..the usb2.0 port on the right side is used for external peripherals such as keyboards and mouse that's used for gamers that has to have a separate keyboard and mouse at home. so it's not needed to have a usb3 port for that side.
can't wait to see what all the manufacturers are going to do with the Ryzen CPU and AMD GPU combos
