They gave Pokemon Mystery dungeon EoS, a game people consider peak pokemon (some people even think its even better than bw2 or hgss), a 5. They ragequit and played like 10% of the game
That game has a lot of problems. While the story was good and the sprites were pretty, mystery dungeon gameplay gets very old, and the often lauded music is not present is most of the actual dungeons wherein generic boring music plays instead. The idea that it's better than bw2 or hgss is asinine.
@YOTSUBA_desu You are one of the ones that do not agree EoS is better than bw2/hgss. Personally, I stand on the middle ground, leaning a bit to EoS. As for the music, I don't agree. Even the "generic" dungeon music is still at worst very good, in my opinion
So heres something i learned, they gave paper mario sticker star an 8.3, which I probably don't have to say is a near universality hated game with more problems than I can put with this becoming a text wall nobody will be willing to read. People seriously need to quit trusting IGN, they're a publication that should've financially tanked a long time ago but somehow are still around. They're no better than Polygon or Kotaku, at this point.
Unrelated from the Mario and Luigi Brothership slander, Sonic games in the 2000s were heavily criticized, IGN reviews literally said that they don’t get Sonic, sure most of the games weren’t perfect, but that doesn’t mean they deserve 4 star ratings, and Sonic games were purely in mediocre scores till now. So if you want to have more examples of IGN being stupid, just know that throughout the 2000s, Sonic was heavily slandered.
we can nitpick all day "To Nintendo credit they don't release games that perform terrible on the switch" uhhh, they do? Is called Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and many more. "I played the game 2-3 hours, if it is not broken then is not gonna be that BAD." Funny to see people don't mind you say that even through that is basically grounds for you sharing your opinion on a game you DIDN'T beat, therefore making your opinion worthless. If you go the opposite direction, then games don't need to be beaten for a review which gives ground to IGN being correct. You dug yourself a tomb with that one chief. I am not defending IGN nor you, all I am saying is reviews are independent and unique. Saying that IGN has to give a game 8/10 because everyone else is doing so is not only redundant, but also straight up dumb. What would be the point of having writers then or have a hivemind? Reviews are good because there are many, and the customer gets an average. Having a 5/10 saying "yeah is boring in X segment" might be extremely useful to customers to who that might be a huge issue. Death Stranding is a "super good game" but to me is and always will be a 3/10 lol. People can have their own opinions. I think the mario game looks decent, but you never catch me playing that. To me that game is a 4/10/
This game has it's flaws, for sure. But I wouldn't say any of the flaws are something that would ruin the experience for me. I personally believe theses things are just because it was made by new developers who had a massive reputation to hold for the series, and they just lack experience. I'm sure if we get a new Mario and Luigi a few years from now, the next game will have none of thoses flaws
It is fair to say, it is only IGN USA that gives Mario & Luigi a 5! The other IGN Brands in other countries rated the Game much Higher and Love the Story and the Battle system.
"They don't release games that don't perform" - bro lemme stop you there. Have fun with Disgaea 6 and Disgaea 6 was the final straw for me. M&L:B is good, but there are definitely performance issues and overworld eaten inputs. Atelier also had some issues in its past on the system as well. Breath of the wild also had its fair share. This is a thing that happens.
What do you mean the Bo6 campaign was actually good I would say it’s one of the better campaigns also the zombies campaign is even better and along with that I don’t 100% agree with Mario and Luigi brother ship review by IGN but I agree with the performance issues and also some parts of the game aren’t as fun as the rest
@Zanderman2006 No, they gave the game to a Mario hater just like what they did with the Sonic series. And besides, who tf cares about what ign thinks we, the consumers, have the final say
Sadly this is what the world has come to, people saying every new movie, game, toy, or book, is bad just because one, they just have to agree with what everyone else says, two humans these day's are heartless, and three it's a quick and easy way to make money which is all anyone cares about these day's.
At the end of the day it's a person's opinion. It has to be that way. Otherwise what are you suggesting, IGN should just give everything the metacritic average or close to it? That would be boring and inauthentic.
One of my main problems with Mario & Luigi: Brothership's performance is how long it takes to load into, and out of, fights. There's also noticeable lag during some cutscenes. I don't necessarily think it will be a problem in the long term, since the next system will be backwards compatible, but performance isn't the only issue with the game. 5/10 is still way too low, though.
2:08 insert Spider-Man laughing meme with J Jonah Jameson as the Pokémon community. I genuinely couldn’t stop laughing. Also they gave transformers one like a 6 or 5 out of ten when it had like 80-90% on rotten tomatoes. IGN IS A JOKE they don’t care about backlash they just want to make money they gave garbage marvel movies like the marvels a 3/10 movie a 7 or 8 out of 10 same thing about she hulk they gave that garbage show like an 8 out of 10. 6:49 IGN confirmed to be on team magma’s side lol. Very high chance they just didn’t actually play the game since if they actually did that they wouldn’t have given it such a horrible score. Nintendo Unity did a UA-cam community post review of the game and posted gameplay footage I’m certain IGN used footage from trailers and tv spots and such and didn’t actually play it and since it leaked like a week before Halloween they probably used leaked footage from UA-cam or something.
Well although I am not trying to make things ugly or worse. I guess they wanted a different game play or something else altogether. Sometimes people put high expectations and become super disappointed. Ironic.

(Mario and Luigi: Brothership is a 8/10... sure it doesn't reinvent the game like past titles did, but I think that it's decent enough. in a very round about way I find it similar to dream team (a game centered about luigi being more than just mario's brother who pointlessly hangs around on adventures))
you know news websites make a lot of money on controversies, this 5/10 has probably boosted sales, because of memes and stuff. In other words, ign and nintendo wants you to make this video to boost sales and gossip
I would respect half of IGN's review but that's their only opinion so it's okay for me to let them criticize Mario and Luigi Brothership but they'll change their minds after giving Mario and Luigi Brothership another chance. Some of his reviews were a bit harsh while a few of his were somewhat true probably.
I just think it's funny how people took ign seriously back in the early 2010s with the sonic reviews but now when they give mario a bad review all of a sudden we are taking ign scores not seriously anymore now I'm still up not to listen to ign but it's strange how it came back full circle and this dude I mean still gave props to sonic but he still think this game is a lil overrated but if sonic would of got a lower review than dragonball you think he will be complaining sure all people have different opinions it's like he's was speaking for the crowd that it's not that good to get that much of a high score not I do still think mario has better games than sonic but guys just need to chill when sonic has a bad score it's nothing new people just don't seem to care but when when it's mario they tearing ign into pieces just don't take them seriously that's all people need to do there no reason to make a video of you disagree that's why as a sonic fan i glad people like sonic x shadow generation but i still think people shouldn't take them seriously with the review with sonic x shadow generation for giving it a 9 but a that's just my opinion on the ign situation.
I honestly think Tropical Freeze suffers from a severe case of level design that looks amazing but gets really repetitive really quickly, and the soundtrack save for a few exceptions is kinda bland. But I 100%'d the game and I don't regret it. The game is good. Same thing here with brothership. The game is spectacular. Some things in the review like the excessive handholdingness and the repetitive writing are kinda lame but they don't explain a freaking 5/10.
I just clicked on this video randomly because that IGN Vailguard review was some chat gpt trash and was thinking Nintendo's reviews are better. At least their final review makes some sense.

Regarding the switch performance, I have a really old one and it’s definitely degraded over time. I bet this is the case with a lot of switches and is probably the reason some people have the idea that games run poorly on it.
Its so weird to me that IGN just lets some guy make and publish a review on their entire behalf. like is there no peer review process?? is there even quality control??? if i wanted the opinion of some guy I'd watch a youtuber. IGN is expected to have some level of professional, unbiased opinions which currently is just not the case
Define biased. Were any of the points he made biased based on your definition? Also, I disagree with the notion that ign reviews have to be an amalgamation of the internal staff's opinions (plural) plus the wider critical consensus. In polling this is called herding. Instead, I would rather a single reviewer who is not dependent on views to earn his paycheck give and defend his honest opinions regardless of what anybody else thinks. Anybody with some critical thinking skills should be able to click on his name and find his other reviews to contextualize the review you're currently reading.
@@YOTSUBA_desu "I would rather a single reviewer who is not dependent on views to earn his paycheck give and defend his honest opinions regardless of what anybody else thinks." you wont find that from IGN. you MIGHT find it from an independent review though. IGN reviewers are pushed to rush through games as quickly as possible to pump out a review before release day (to get their paycheck). if those opinions arent indicative of what anyone else thinks - or worse, just straight up wrong, then IGN should be stepping in to correct that. half of these complaints are either completely on par with with other M&L games, or such a small part of the game that a 5/10 isnt just unreasonably low, but inconsistent with their own (and IGNs) review scale. The real reason they think its a 5/10 is because they stopped playing for fun, and only played to beat the game so they could get a review out ASAP, because in that context its easy to see everything as "barriers" to progress, and when the runtime goes longer than expected, that isnt a pleasant surprise, but "a padded final act" Many people also do not watch a review to "critically think" about the reviewer. most of these people are casual gamers and parents who dont have a reference aside from "the review guy said it was bad", so they dont buy the game. its perfectly fine to want a review to be one persons opinions, but when that one person is explicitly paid to create a review with a large reach and influence, I expect IGN to have some damn consistency and quality control. I dont care if their reviewer really thinks the game is a 5/10, but you dont get to publish hot takes as THE expert review, because it gives the complete wrong picture. its completely exaggerated and not reflective of general consensus (which is pretty important when you are the guys telling people which games they should buy).

When I zone out and chill, I instinctively press B and wonder if my controller died, or even worse fumble my attack because my thumb is on the wrong button. Years of conditioning my muscle memory is coming back to haunt me. And that's not even the fault of the game itself!
We got Sonic to get a good review score… and that’s the closest we got to a redemption arc
The funny thing about the Too Much Water complaint for ORAS, is with context, it doesn't make sense anymore. They aren't taking about the routes. They are taking about encounters, and how "brainless" it was in the back half because "everything is a water mon"
I haven't seen bias this intense since NerdSlayerStudios' covering Starcraft. I dislike Sparking Zero cause I'm not into the game, but my friends absolutely love it to bits, so seeing it at a 7, while Dragon Age: TV gets a 9, is criminal
We could just stop
Taking ign seriously
I stopped caring about what IGN thought a long time ago. They gave Imagine Party Babyz for the Wii a better score than Brothership.
man seeing how mario fan are seeing ign give a 5 out of ten to mario brother ship is like opposite day for us sonic fans
I really hope that this game isn't worse than Paper Jam, with IGN giving that game a 5.9/10
I've played both. Paper Jam is worse (but not a 5.9).
@@NintendoUpDotCom Paper Jam is probably tied with Dream Team as my favorite. Sure, story isn’t really present, but the gameplay and QoL improvements make up for it to me (plus I find doing the glitches to be a lot of fun to mess around with).
I haven’t played Brothership though so it may become my new favorite when I try it.
There isn’t a bad Mario and Luigi game, even my least favourite (PIT) and the objectively worst (PJ) are good games
@@Grand_Kaiserin_Elysium ouch, partners in time is probably my favorite. 😔
However, I still agree; all of these games are good, and playing through Brothership it also seems pretty good so far
@@MaxBoomingHere for the longest time, DT was my absolute favorite. Now it's Brothership.
Ok but like, they gave sonic x shadoe gens a ten so there is SOME good people there
So heres something i learned, they gave paper mario sticker star an 8.3, which I probably don't have to say is a near universality hated game with more problems than I can put with this becoming a text wall nobody will be willing to read.
I'm convinced they just spin a wheel with random numbers than attempt to justify the number it lands on as their rating, that's the only way to explain it.
This is why instead of reviews i watch the start or an LP to see if i think a game is for me (only downside is sometimes that means I now have a series I want to watch but can't due to spoilers)
It’s middle of the road for a mario and luigi game, but still fantastic.
People are Insecure over this one review and ignoring all of the positive reviews this game has
People seriously need to quit trusting IGN, they're a publication that should've financially tanked a long time ago but somehow are still around.
My man sounds like Moist Critikal and I'm here for it
Crazy how its the US Ign who have to throw the bad reviews but the other ign branches praised it
I don’t know why people are surprised at this, IGN Isn’t credible anymore yet people still think that they are.
You have to remember they also gave Shadow Generations a 9. A broken clock is right twice a day
we can nitpick all day "To Nintendo credit they don't release games that perform terrible on the switch" uhhh, they do?
To me that game is a 4/10/
You know it's bad when Google user reviews are at 95%. Also come on, performance issues?
IGN’s reviews have not only reached an all time low in the Writing department. But in Several Categories!
The bad IGN's Mega Man Star Force 1 and 3 reviews are also awful. IGN ruined Mega Man Star Force.
I'm brazilian.
8:03 need we forget fossil fighters frontier
For how much water there is I’d assume it be at least a 7/10
What do you mean the Bo6 campaign was actually good I would say it’s one of the better campaigns also the zombies campaign is even better and along with that I don’t 100% agree with Mario and Luigi brother ship review by IGN but I agree with the performance issues and also some parts of the game aren’t as fun as the rest
What's the background melody, and why does it remind me so much of Rainbow Cemetary from Symphony of the Night?
If the game isn't gay it is awful to IGN
Do we have any proof of that? Not saying your wrong but I wanna see if IGN favors games like that
@@adju952they gave dragon age a 9
This 100% lol
@Zanderman2006 No, they gave the game to a Mario hater just like what they did with the Sonic series.
And besides, who tf cares about what ign thinks we, the consumers, have the final say
@@Ninjabladeyokotofufu me personally I've never heard of dragon age but just hearing it's name tells me it's a bad highly graphic game
I think that score actually tanked the sales of the game. Since the new console is coming out, this might be a reminder to pay them
Sadly this is what the world has come to, people saying every new movie, game, toy, or book, is bad just because one, they just have to agree with what everyone else says, two humans these day's are heartless, and three it's a quick and easy way to make money which is all anyone cares about these day's.
I've never taken IGN seriously ever since their rating for ORAS
At the end of the day it's a person's opinion. It has to be that way.
Otherwise what are you suggesting, IGN should just give everything the metacritic average or close to it? That would be boring and inauthentic.
There are only two numbers... 5 and 9. Everything in between is essentially a decimal.
Something like that.
They're fucking quintupling down on twitter
@@CassiusStelar lol
Yeah and it’s embarrassing considering how the site tries to represent itself as professional
Now ya'll felt what we sonic fans felt during 2010s ☠️
My IGN rating: 7.8 to much bulls*ht!
These IGN fans at the bottom of these comments sure are IGNorant 🤣🔥🔥🔥
One of my main problems with Mario & Luigi: Brothership's performance is how long it takes to load into, and out of, fights. There's also noticeable lag during some cutscenes. I don't necessarily think it will be a problem in the long term, since the next system will be backwards compatible, but performance isn't the only issue with the game. 5/10 is still way too low, though.
7-8 at least. Though I’m leaning more towards 8.
Ironic.
IGN glazing Sweet baby inc harder Than KSI and Logan paul glaze each other. (Mario and Luigi: Brothership is a 8/10... sure it doesn't reinvent the game like past titles did, but I think that it's decent enough. in a very round about way I find it similar to dream team (a game centered about luigi being more than just mario's brother who pointlessly hangs around on adventures))
IGN should give up in rating games.
I guess it's not exactly the same thing but let's not forget that they also rated Transformers One 5 out of 10
you know news websites make a lot of money on controversies, this 5/10 has probably boosted sales, because of memes and stuff. In other words, ign and nintendo wants you to make this video to boost sales and gossip
Don’t let some crappy game reviews get the best of you, it’s much better to form your own opinions.
I trust the word of the fans more than the reviewers.
@@vincenzorafaelsuarez6644 IGN is rating games like their rating movies which is why i said they should have stick to movies and left games alone
1:53 You mean late next year? There’s no way they release it Early next year at this point.
I think they just got one person to play the game and just go off of their biased opinion
Now do you understand what sonics fans have been going through for years?
This game on the ocean is a 5/10 though. Too much water
No but seriously I haven’t played it yet it looks cool
I honestly think Tropical Freeze suffers from a severe case of level design that looks amazing but gets really repetitive really quickly, and the soundtrack save for a few exceptions is kinda bland. But I 100%'d the game and I don't regret it. The game is good. Same thing here with brothership. The game is spectacular. Some things in the review like the excessive handholdingness and the repetitive writing are kinda lame but they don't explain a freaking 5/10.
IGN Stands For

N- Negitive
their Mario and Luigi brother ship review gave me flash backs to the sonic unleashed review
8:38 W critique of Tears of the Kingdom 🗿
They gave Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam a 5.9 but Brothership a 5. I don’t trust these guys in the slightest.
Question can I go into this game without doing past games or should I just go into brother hood without any past games like idk
you should be fine, only thing i could see you not understanding by not playing previous games is starlow
As Kuroto Dan… or was it his dad? Said it “you guys don’t understand video games.”
I just clicked on this video randomly because that IGN Vailguard review was some chat gpt trash and was thinking Nintendo's reviews are better. At least their final review makes some sense.
UPDATE; wouldn’t ya know it, lo and behold, whaddya know, they also STILL won’t even get a clue, and won’t even give Sonic 3 its dues either. Who woulda thunk.
Regarding the switch performance, I have a really old one and it’s definitely degraded over time. I bet this is the case with a lot of switches and is probably the reason some people have the idea that games run poorly on it.
*ok, ok, i know, IGN went corporate and now the entire internet hates it. nothing's new*
Its so weird to me that IGN just lets some guy make and publish a review on their entire behalf.
like is there no peer review process?? is there even quality control???
if i wanted the opinion of some guy I'd watch a youtuber.
@@YOTSUBA_desu "I would rather a single reviewer who is not dependent on views to earn his paycheck give and defend his honest opinions regardless of what anybody else thinks."
you wont find that from IGN. you MIGHT find it from an independent review though.
The real reason they think its a 5/10 is because they stopped playing for fun, and only played to beat the game so they could get a review out ASAP, because in that context its easy to see everything as "barriers" to progress, and when the runtime goes longer than expected, that isnt a pleasant surprise, but "a padded final act"
Many people also do not watch a review to "critically think" about the reviewer. most of these people are casual gamers and parents who dont have a reference aside from "the review guy said it was bad", so they dont buy the game.
its perfectly fine to want a review to be one persons opinions, but when that one person is explicitly paid to create a review with a large reach and influence, I expect IGN to have some damn consistency and quality control.
I dont care if their reviewer really thinks the game is a 5/10, but you dont get to publish hot takes as THE expert review, because it gives the complete wrong picture. its completely exaggerated and not reflective of general consensus (which is pretty important when you are the guys telling people which games they should buy).
6:45 someone preferred Groudon…
According to IGN, Dustborn is better than Mario & Luigi Brothership...? Folks at IGN are losing their minds!
after playing partway through. Broship has been at least number 3 for me in the series in terms of faves. But I am starting to like it more then SS saga the more I see. IGN is not worth takin serious, They gave concord a dead game a 7 and dustborn also a 7 when that game has like no players and barely any buzz.
