    Jatco has always had their “issues “. I’ve owned several Nissan trucks that were solid 300K mile trucks but they were 5spd manual transmissions. Their manual transmissions were solid units as long as they had good oil in them.

      These use the Jatco 5R05 automatic transmission. They’re pretty stout transmissions. Same ones used in the full size Titan (1st gen). You typically don’t see many issues with these, unless they’ve been abused. They’re one of the more reliable transmissions Nissan has made in recent memory. Their CVT’s are another story.

      The current Nissan Trucks use a Mercedes-designed automatic transmission that JATCO is licensed to produce. From regular reading, it seems they're holding up well in service. No automatic transmission is perfect, which is why my Frontier has a stick.

    I've got a one owner '09 King Cab, 4.0L, 4WD, 6spd MT. Bought it in '19 and it's been great. Was never affected by the transmission cooler issue.

    Love Nissan products. Had an 86 Stanza 3 spd- 90k, no issues when sold. 96 Infiniti G20- 4spd- 200k, no issues, and 10 Versa 4 spd- 145k no issues. All automatics. I change (d) the fluid.

    I own a 2017 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X. Bought new 10/2017. Only failure in 71,000 miles was a rear axle seal. Repaired under warranty. Previously owned a 2008 Nissan Frontier that I bought used with 86,000 miles. It also had a rear axle seal failure, that was repaired by used vehicle dealer as part of the purchase. Nissan Frontiers spend very little time in repair shops.

    Not you can get a brand new remanufactured complete valve body from street smart transmission for less than $800. If you're paying over $1,000 you're paying too much.

      Nissan put a transmission cooler on the frontier from 2005 and up models. It's a very good thing. Because it keeps transmission cooler and it takes the lines out of the radiator so no pink milkshake of death.

    Just because a vehicle is one owner don't mean nothing it all comes down to the maintenance that one owner has done to the car. And rha it's not a Nissan with a bad Jatco transmission.

    My dad's friend had a Nissan frontier transmission went out 200 miles past the warranty Nissan honored it the first time 10,000 miles down the road his transmission went again this time the radiator popped the leak Nissan would not cover it. He has not purchased a Nissan ever again . He's been a loyal Jeep customer ever since!

      switching from Nissan to a Jeep? That is a horrible decision.

    • @elonsus9747
      @elonsus9747 4 дні тому +4

      It probably had the faulty Calosonic Radiator. The fittings would leak internally, and the coolant would mix with the transmission fluid ultimately destroying it. Nissan probably never bothered replacing, so it happened again. Go figure.

    Nissan and JATCO make some really bad design choices. Their manual transmissions are much better. And don't get me started on their CVT stuff. 🤣

      I recall a time when Datsuns were held in very high regard back in the 1970's. Still second place back then to Toyotas, but known to be very reliable and tough (so long as you didn't live in a "salt" state).

    • @NVRAMboi
      @NVRAMboi День тому +1

      I respectfully disagree. In most cases, Toyota ("tax") pricing is way higher. When I bought my (used) '09 Frontier, equivalent Tacomas were $7k to $10k higher - which is why I bought the NISSAN. I've had it going on 6 years and it has exceeded expectations. I went out looking for used Tacomas first. Prices were almost laughable.

      It's this attitude that makes people pay up to $10,000 or more for an equivalent Tacoma - needlessly. Some of us refuse to pay almost $40 grand for near-base Tacoma (with the turbo 4-banger). Help yourself man, especially that $65k Tacoma TRD Pro. hahaha.
