I think the mobile mechanic still got paid.

See all this "death code" bs. Power spikes nrver cause fuses to blow, or erroneous codes to set.

Easy. They wanted to drain the motor oil & refill it, doing a typical motor oil change. But they actually drained the CVT transmission & then "refilled" the motor with new motor oil. Then they never used the motor oil dipstick to verify that the motor oil level was correct.

It’s my understanding that this is the exact reason why some transmissions don’t have drain plugs.

Wow. I don't know how anybody can make that mistake. He removed the drain plug on the transmission and drained the transmission fluid instead of removing the drain plug on the oil pan. He then added six quarts of oil into the motor, which was never drained and never even bothered to check the fluid levels. Remember folks, always check the work that has been done.

To be fair I have gone to a mechanic over engine stalling when braking after getting in an accident, they then fixed some bad cables so an unrelated misfire stopped but never noticed that the air filter hose was loose, so the stalling continued till I personally inspected the engine and put it back on and tightened it down. Like seriously I had 4 car guys, my boss, and paid a mechanic to look at that engine nobody noticed it. When I explained it in retrospective they collectively facepalmed.

Drained the wrong thing. Put the oil in the right thing, but it hadn't been drained. The transmission had been drained. Then he didn't check the oil level like he should. His name should be publicized, so no one ever uses him again. He should not be a mechanic.

I really hope he didn't put 6 quarts of CVT fluid in the engine because thats very unfortunate and probably requires a flush and new pumps and quite possibly a new transmission depending on how far the vehicle was deiven in that condition. Id inspect the engine oil for contamination of transmission fluid and change the transmission filters, gasket and inspect the valve body and possibly test the shift solenoids (which doesn't require a teardown but just pan down) and then completely flush out engine. Probably even burnt the transmission pump. Is that mobile mechanic going to be billed for the damage, taken to court for cost of all damages after a full inspection

Had a similar problem with my 91. Turns out that the shift lever sits in a fiber washer where it enters the transmission. The washer had disintegrated and pieces had fallen into the transmission and had jammed into the gears so the gears wouldn't mesh. Remove, dismantle, clean reassemble, replace.

Yeah subarus can be deceptive the transmission drain plug is where it would be in a normal car but the oil drain plug is further up because of the engines design. Easy mistake if you don't know what you're doing.

Bare minimum every mechanic should check the oil level after an oil change. That would eliminate the chances of this problem occurring and possibly damaging the engine and transmission.

  • @matthewgonzalez8847

I think the owner of the car put the oil in The vehicle. And made a big excuse that a mechanic came in did this. This is too easy basic mechanics. There's a dipstick for the motor and there's a dipstick for the tranny. And they're 2 different colors. It's not very hard

I know exactly what happened because I did the same thing in my first year working in a shop as a lube tech. Subaru uses the same external spin on filter as the oil filter. Same size and thread pitch. Only difference is i said something when the car wouldn’t move and didn’t just try to send it. At least I’m not the only one though. Old transmission fluid looks very similar to oil in color.

I’ve chased explanations as to why the fuse blew but on some cases I come up completely empty handed. I do believe that there are faulty fuses out there though. If the same fuse location blows a second time then there’s definitely a problem that needs to be addressed.

My old bosses first question would've been why did the fuse blow. If i said IDK why he would've asked me why not then told me figure it out IDC how long it takes. I'm grateful for that. Bandaids are only temporary
