I love Hondas in general. The issue is that they’ve become so obsessed with simplifying, cost cutting, and making things so bland that it’s sort of lost the DNA of past Hondas. Not to mention they’re the most expensive of the mainstream brands with fewer discounts, and in some cars, they skimp on features that every competitor offers. They’ve sort of lost that fun and sporty character of past Hondas, and become expensive and cheap.
I think the boom of having the most modern technological cabins has really hurt Honda as all they used to worry about is engines and reliability now so many factors are coming through they for some reason were blind folded too
They are relatively small car company relative to a giant like Toyota. Can’t really compete on The same level Honda corporation is involved in to many things.
It's why I went with Mazda. They're more reliable and more fun to drive. Don't get caught with a bad 1.5L turbo Honda engine or their faulty automatic transmission. J35 engines are chewing up bearings. Honda loves their vanilla CVT. I miss my old 2000 Civic Si, that was when Honda knew how to make fun cars.
@ I love the Honda hybrids but they’re just so expensive relative to their competitors. I remember looking at a civic hybrid hatchback for my parents and we ended up going Camry XLE and there was hardly any daylight in price between the XLE Camry and civic hybrid hatchback, as we got some discounts while the Honda dealers just wouldn’t budge near me. It’s funny how a compact sedan hybrid gets so close to a hybrid mid size sedan in price and it’s not top trim compact for base mid-size price, it’s underequipped top trim compact for super or nicely equipped middle or slightly above middle tim midsize sedan price.
probably unpopular opinion... I'd rather buy a car built in Japan than the U.S. the majority of Hondas in the U.S. now are built in the u.s. ... the quality shows
I totally get what you're saying, I like Japanese cars, and when I say Japanese, I mean Japanese, stuff that is designed, engineered, built and sold in the home market, I want to be able to go to Japan and see my car driving on the streets over there, "Japanese" cars that are designed in America for the American market does nothing for me. If there's one thing I really like about my third generation Mazda 6 is that it's a genuine Japanese car, designed, engineered and built in Japan, by the Japanese, placed on a ship and brought to America.
Honda never tried to be cool, the aftermarket and street racing and customization made them cool. Remember Toyota made Scion a whole new company just to try to be cool like Honda with customization.
@@rogerdodgerxd for a while it did! But then they stopped the customization and didn't provide what younger generations needed with technology. Kia has kind of taken that scion place and excelled at providing good quality cards with loads of tech,
This video doesn’t address another problem. If I’m buying a Japanese branded car like Honda I’m expecting high build quality like to do when their Honda factories in Japan. More of these vehicles like Acura that they make in the US are not the same as manufactured in Japan.
@@turbinator1990 damn my comment got deleted. What I commented was that Merikkkans don’t know how to work. That’s why corporations seek out immigrants and outsourcing to do a good job. SMH
What made the Honda Accord and Civic "cool" was the fact that they were customizable--especially for the younger owners. Because of this, Accords and Civics became better-handing, sportier and more esthetically appealing even though they were, at their base, family sedans or economy cars. Of course, the reputation for affordability, reliability and dependability helped among the younger demographic, too.
The only real difference is some interior and external body changes. Its an accord under the skin and bonnet. Audi at least offers some bigger changes to its versions of VW cars.
@@stephendoherty8291 I have a 2012 tl tech and has everything I need . Paddle shifters still smooth , large display , great leather , and big enough Navi that is somewhat outdated but works when needed . I just use Waze
The guy in beginning, Gregory Noble, making such statement of Honda is not making the transition to electric vehicles quickly enough, yet many electric vehicles are just sitting in many car dealers lots, and we all know, many people want more sportier cars with gasoline engines vs electric motors. I can't believe he made such statement when everyone is screaming loud all over the Internet that they don't want EV's.
The lies they try to push 😂 kinda like those that invested too much into EVs thinking that people are gonna line up like it’s the new iPhone. Or so, in their delusional mind they think😂
Noble was right. Honda has screwed up their EV transition and that’s the major reason they are getting killed in China. The EV’s sitting on dealer lots like GM and Ford are compliance cars that weren’t produced to be successful. They are made so they could pay less in regulatory credits
EV sales are increasing faster than combustion-engined sales. The strategy of falling behind in EVs so your sales in China (by far the biggest car market) collapse, but you hide behind tariffs in North America and Europe selling your old technology, is NOT a recipe for success, even if Toyota, VW, GM, Ford, Honda, etc. are all adopting it. Chinese EV makers will dominate South America, South-East Asia, and African markets while they build factories in Europe.
No thanks, bough a new Mazda 6 back in 2015 and OMG, it left me stranded twice in my 23 months ownership, sold it at a huge loss, it has one of the worst depreciations in the industry. Eletronics were the culprit, never never never again will buy a Mazda. Terrible experience.
I owed an 05 AP2, 99 civic SI , and now with the 08 CR, I can tell you these “old” Hondas are truly special. The problem is (I think) Honda used to make cars that their engineers wanted to drive. And now of course they make cars that everyday people would drive, and that takes away the “special” mojo.
Earlier this year, I test-drove Toyota RAV4 Prime, Honda CRV, Hyundai Tuscon, Kia Sportage, Mazda CX5. I tested only hybrid and top tier (trim) versions only. (Cx5 is only one that doesn't offer a hybrid version, yet) Here is my ranking in comfort and smooth driving, technology, features, warranty, and the price. 1. Hyundai Tuscon/Kia Sportage 2. Honda CRV 3. RAV4 4. Mazda CX5 I ended up buying Kia Sportage PHEV SX-Line Sportage. Honda and Toyota have infotainments look like from the 1990s in the year 2025. No 360-degree cam or parking like Kia/Hyundai and many other features missing. No USB C in 2024 models. Toyota/Honda 60,000 warranty Hyundai/Kia 100,000 warranty. It has been 4 months and I couldn't be happier with my decision. Sporatge is a very nice family car.
You must have not tested the top tier rav4 trims because their infotainment systems are quite nice. I have a 2024 xle Premium with the upgraded infotainment and it was by far the most modern feeling system of all the suvs I test drove. It has a big 10.5 inch screen and several usb c ports. And if you go up to the top of the line limited trim, it does have 360 cameras and all of that. I test drove all of the cars you mentioned except for the Sportage. The entry level rav4 infotainment system does feel quite old - I’m guessing maybe that was the one in the car you test drove
My 2020 Honda Pilot has had multiple recalls since I purchased it. When I call to make an appointment to have it fixed, they say the parts are unavailable or limited, and only urgent needs will be addressed. It is up to my local dealership to decide if the fix to my vehicle is urgent or not.
Every manufacturer right now. There are like 50k chevy cruise brand new waiting for a new motor. Ford and GM can't get 10 speed trans parts or replacements. Hyundai Kia can't even get 2.4l motors to replace the faulty ones. Toyota is practicing right on time part distribution, so often it's weeks or wait. Germans entire car distribution network is falling apart right now. Subaru is hilarious. 2 month wait for parts, Volvo lol, ...... Nissan of today has no aftermarket support, stellantis relies on Europe which is screwed.
@@jameslowry3208 I'm trying to understand the last 2 years why is the supply chain is still stuck in covid times? Are we low on the supply of raw materials or are the manufacturers unable to keep up with the demand?
Honda is a solid company with excellent vehicles. As others have mentioned, they need better suppliers. They are behind in EV but let’s see how that develops. I recently purchased a new Accord Touring and it’s a great car. My opinion, their cars are reliable, easy to maintain and drive much better than Toyota.
Accord is somewhat current, especially Accord Touring. But at that price Acura TLX and Lexus ES are very close while offering way more luxury inside. Other Honda vehicles are extremely behind competition. Most Honda buyers just do not keep up or just do not drive other brands thinking Honda is still the best. But Buick Envision drives better than Honda CRV. New Buick Enclave is way better than new Pilot. I truly believe Honda Prologue is by far the best Honda on the market today and it is made by GM.
Honda will and always has been conservative with marketing. They let the vehicles speak for themselves. However, they’ve lost the “Honda Edge” that Soichiro Honda pushed. Even with Hirotoshi as the predominant shareholder, he lacks the vision and interest of Akio Toyoda. It’s as if they’ve almost swapped places and Akio is pushing racing/development and Hirotoshi is listening to a board of miscalculating and stock pushing advisors. Without excitement, there is no future in motor, sports, or sales. Get to it Hirotoshi!!!🙏🏻
Prelude owner here. It's not a fast car to drive. It's an exciting car to drive. And Preludes used to be everywhere in the 80s and 90s. The new one doesn't fill me with excitement the way my '97 Type SH does, even if it is better in every measurable way. The old Preludes have a soul that the new one looks to be lacking. All it needs is solid handling, 200 hp, and a rev-happy engine. That's all it takes to have a solid competitor to the BRZ/GR86.
They just released the type r and integra type s not too long ago and are in the works of a new prelude, not sure entirely what they’re missing in terms of sports cars.
What have they done? Their piston rings are renowned for being some of the worst. Their block castings are the worst. But they can style a car and market well. But they are a 8-12 year car life before on deathbed. Opposed to a 1999 Honda crv that will be around longer then every Sante fe on the road right now.
Keep telling yourself that and dwelling on old problems while you overpay for less value in a Japanese car. New Kia models kick-ass and are extremely popular, while the original leaders continue to struggle.
hyundai/kia/nissan all look good and flashy, but ultimately they are not well made vehicles. Their cars feel cheap, and theres a reason why their resale value pummels after a year or so of ownership.
The world needs an Element Electriq. - Element owner (the most useful/versatile car ever owned since my first in '76) PS I bought my orange Element EX-P six years ago. It was the only Element in town. Now there are several. It's still a very popular car in northern New England. And I assume the many more I see each year are refurbs purchased from here, there, and everywhere.
I owned Honda Element when it came out in 2003. The best vehicle I ever had in my lifetime and I had over 10 cars/SUVs, including new Acuras. The Element was massively ahead of its time. People disliked its looks, but the value and its utility, its fun to drive handling, reliability, comfy seats and a stock front subwoofer. It was everything I wanted and everything I want today. I could fit my entire apartment inside the Element, I could sleep in it, super easy for outdoors grilling with a rear gate. Every single Element owner loved it and most people keep it until it rusts through. If only I had known cars will decline in quality and double in price, I would've bought a new Element in 2012 before they got discontinued.
My first Japanese car was the Acura Integra and have owned over 10 Hondas since. What has been hurting Honda recently are boring uninspired design, decontenting, poor reliability and mass recalls. I just bought a Honda CR-V and it's been in the shop longer than I've been driving due to engine problems. I had the original CR-V from the 90s and it was bulletproof and fun to drive.
Agreed. I had one, an HF. By far, my best car ever. Put 360,000 miles on it (then it got stolen}. 55 MPG overall (really)...in 1988, when a typical car got 30, or less. Drove like a small Porsche. Nothing in excess. Weighed 1,800 pounds, not 4,000. Good looking, even today. Affordable without a 7-year loan. Am I missing something? New Honda are ugly as sin, like most other vehicles, and unaffordable. Drivers have gone downhill too. They think the road was built for them alone...when they put their phones down long enough to notice it. Car of the year for 2024 is of course the Cybertruck, a stainless steel cockroach built for the apocalypse. Bullet proof. Will crush any pedestrian in its way. Built for an Army of One: me. "Move fast and break things," say our tech bro overlords. How's that working out for the rest of us?
I think honda has been far too conservative with their car designs and figures. Cars have added more power in most brands. The Si has been underpowered for years. Acuras are considerably down on power vs their competition. Power isnt everything but Honda continually takes the safest most tame route which makes comparisons look underwhelming.
This is the answer. I've owned 4 back when they were cool. The last was a '95 del Sol. Loved that car. Now they're very expensive, and not attractive at all.
Honda and Acura are just very outdated. Conservative is a very soft word when GM makes better vehicles right now vs Honda-Acura. 10 years ago I would not believe it is possible.
You don’t even have it. People talk so much crap driving an old ass car. The car is nice looking, high quality interior, good hybrid engine. Now if you were to give me specifics like value, lack of features, then I could say yes, but that’s across their line up. I suggest you watch the review by the car care nut. You’ll see why people don’t regret their decision.
@@dapivimuyou right there on the money literally. The people complaining about it were never going to buy it brand new anyways no matter how good or bad it looked. @@dapivimuThe 11th generation Accord is a dumpster fire, it's not an improvement over the 10th generation in any way, that's why it's not selling well, a lot of owners with the 10th generation aren't giving them up for the new one, there's no good reason to buy a new accord over a new Camry.
From 1988 to 2003, Honda made the sexiest looking cars, especially from their Acura brand. Furthermore, at the time, their VTEC engine was car tech innovation that lead to their cars enjoying massive sales in North America and spawning movies like The Fast and the Furious franchise.
I’m on my 5th Honda. 2019 civic coupe 6 speed manual. 42,000 original miles. I still get offers from dealers frequently who want to buy it. Lots of fun to drive.
Honda is a stellar brand and always will remain one. They need to focus on selecting better suppliers to maintain their superior quality and improve US factory building quality. I’m still rocking with Honda 💯
Japanese car manufacturers are really insisting on hydrogen because it’s the infrastructure that works best for Japan. Easier for them to source hydrogen than what is needed to create electric batteries.
@@TheMrJourneyerNot buying that at all. Hydrogen is inefficient for Japan just like every other country. Honda better get going on BEV’s or they’ll be out of business
Honda never lost their appeal. In fact, aside from BMW (BMW! A luxury performance brand), Honda was one of the last car companies to throw Manuals in multiple models. And good ones. Like BMW, their engines are incredible and some of the best in the world. Heck, up till the 2010s, Honda engineered Double-wishbone suspension in their largest sedan, which by the way is Front-Wheel-drive. Do you know how hard and expensive that is? And how very few average drivers noticed or even cared about the benefits of that? BMW does not offer double wishbone suspension. Porsche (Aside from the GT3RS) doesn’t use it. Most non-performance cars/off-road SUVs don’t use it. Honda has always had that edge, that drive to be a little better while excelling at a little of everything, and when they change, they’re just evolving with the times. They haven’t lost that spark. What they HAVE lost is their quality and reliability. And so has Toyota, which says A LOT about the garbage corporations are selling us these days.
Honda was cool when it built great engines. Engines that sing to 8k rpm, last 200k miles. Transmissions that last & manual transmission that feels like "well oiled rifle bolt". V6 that revs eagerly to 7k with great efficiency. Now it’s oil dilution, head gaskets problems, CVTs. Rod bearing failures. Long wheel base sedans (TLX) with subcompact interiors. $58k for a 4 cylinder. Just wait till the new Recall for 2018-2023 V6 engines.
Quality control needs to drastically improve (Toyota too). Too many recalls and issues with the 1.5T engines and catastrophic CVT failure rate. While other manufacturers are jumping all on board the EV bandwagon, Honda should focus on providing high quality IC and Hybrid vehicles.
I totally agree that QC needs to be improved on all fronts. Your take on Honda CVTs is just wrong. They produce some of the best and most reliable CVTs. Now Nissan JATCO CVTs is a different story. However your point about the Honda 1.5 liter turbo engine is absolutely spot on.
I agree that the Honda CVTs are not as terrible as the JATCO/Nissan CVTs. However, if you look at when most breakdown, it occurs before 200K miles. You can’t really fix them. A new replacement unit costs $8-10K! At that point, you decide whether to invest in a new unit or buy something else. Most Americans don’t have $1000 emergency fund.
We purchased a 2019 Honda Odyssey. What a disappointment the car has been. We will never buy another Honda. As a kid, Honda was the most reliable car you could buy. Not anymore.
My 1985 Honda Prelude was so fun to drive. It's wide wheelbase would grab those turns, it felt so low and sporty to drive. I hope the new version of the Prelude is as fun to drive!
I had a 2009 Honda Civic coupe LX. I loved it. I need more space, so I brought a 2017 Mitsubishi outlander Sport AWD. My Civic had 116K, and I brought it in 2016 with 71K on it. Now, my Mitsubishi outlander Sport has 105K on it. I brought it in 2022 with 71K.
Most people don't know shoot about cars especially when it comes to purchasing one, they opt for what they think is cool or fast, no matter the cost or mileage, Honda shouldn't have to change much just let the people catch up.
I think some of Honda's problems stem from the reputation of being a Honda, and possibly banking on the idea that if it's a Honda it must be excellent. In my opinion, Honda lost its value proposition. For example, the HRV is a good vehicle, but it has an underpowered engine and in the top model, I cant get a good sound system. My subaru crosstrek, however has more value for similar price....top stereo, better engjne, lots of power.
I hate their GDI turbos, too much pressure in the cylinder causing blowby and oil dilution issues, prematurely wearing cylinder walls. They made it to meet bureaucratic emissions caps. Their 2.0 natural aspired 4 cylinder is bulletproof compared.
@@dootdoot1867They fixed that issue several years ago. It mainly affected people up North. My buddy has 100k on his Type R and has owned it since new. Not a single problem.
@@dootdoot1867good thing Honda is starting to phase the turbo out. Their hybrids are paired with naturally aspirated engines, so you will need to get the SI if anyone wants a turbo civic
Honda has settled into just being a brand, to be marketed. Like they are selling shoes, or perfume. Of course you need to sell and you can do that with 80% of your lineup. You also need to keep the Soichiro spirit alive. You need to make a ZE1 Insight (I loved it), an S2000, a Rune motorcycle, etc. They don't sell 200k units, but they inspire a lot of confidence in the whole lineup.
A lot of Honda vehicles just aren't competitive in their respective segments. If you look at the new CR-V for example, it's lacking so many features compared to its competition and you can find something just as reliable at Toyota or something with way more features for the money at Hyundai/Kia.
And yet CR-Vs are only outsold by RAV4s in the segment (and more than a few have said they bought CR-Vs because the waiting list for a RAV4 was just way too long). Probably not the example you’d want to use here.
Base level CR-Vs lack a lot of tech, but the top trim is just as good as any other brand. But the drivetrain and reliability is what people buy CR-Vs for. Most dealerships have a long waitlist for CR-Vs. It's a very good offering as a midsize SUV.
People over thinking a car company. Just buy what you want and upkeep it with short maintenance intervals. If a recall happens, get it done. It's not that serious.
Acura has far too many downfalls. They are overpriced for what they offer vs the competition. Their biggest downfall, is teaming up with GM (again) to rebadge their EV vehicles in order to "offer" Ev's. Honda once on top of their game is now in the dumpster and especially their quality has suffered with multiple engine and transmission issues among other things. The competition is leaps ahead of them.
All OEMs have lost their way. People have smaller families than ever yet OEMs are almost exclusively making the biggest, blandest, chunkiest, vehicles ever. Nothing but huge boring family vehicles with lazy designs inside and out. Everything looks the same, and not in a good way. Then you look at MSRPs being way too damn high, and add on top the outrageous dealer markups and buying a brand new vehicle just isn't even worth considering right now. Honda used to stand for simple, reasonable size, reliable, affordable fun. Now the only thing they have is fairly reliable. There's nothing fun about them anymore, and they're all big and expensive.
Overweight Americans, am I right? 😂😂😂😂😂😂 In Europe/JP they have more variety in the smaller cars (like Kei cars). North America, typically they have one subcompact, if that.
THATS THE PROBLEM!! ☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️Right here in these comments!! JUST OVERBLOATED VEHICLES. Until they stop just pushing them, keep up the delusional nonsense of being “cool”
@realnapster1522 True enough, and I'm thankful that it's at least a manual and not an SUV, though it's still a chunky, oversized, overpriced 4 door unfortunately, so still hard pass. It's better than nothing but still garbage compared to pre-00s Honda with light, fun, affordable cars. Nowadays they all look the same and are all too big , too boring, and too expensive. Type R included, though it is the best of the bad.
Last gen generation of Hondas had some nice body lines and style. This new generation over corrected. They took the 2.0T out of the Accords. They barely offer a 6 speed unless it's the Si or Type R. The Type R is ridiculously overpriced for what it is. Yes, I've driven it a lot through some friends. The new ones are 50k... lol Hondas are still very reliable. They still make the J series and K series. The styling and paint quality needs to be addressed.
I've a 2016 Civic LX in Canada. And the AC system on that car has been a nightmare. It has broken down several times. I was surprised to see that many problems with a reliable brand like Honda.
I also had issues with my AC here in Brazil (Honda Fit 2019). The owner of the repair shop said he has a stock of the parts, because basically all Honda models here are showing the same problems. There are reports of failure after a couple of years. I had 4 Hondas before this one, and never had any issues. It is clear their quality is no longer the same.
my POV (Bought a car for everyday use). I really wanted to buy Honda because back in the days I used to ride a honda motorbike, very reliable, easy to maintain, quality etc. When I'm about to buy my car, I felt that honda is all about expensive stuff. No affordable cars, kinds of feel that they are on the edge between economical and luxury cars. Maintenance are expensive, parts, and all. So I bought a toyota instead. Reliable, parts are easy to find and cheap, cheaper maintenance etc. Just my experience.
Kinda wild that they haven't experimented with the EV/range extender combo. They have extensive R&D poured into both generators and hybrid vehicles. Also, it may just be my ADHD, but I'm not a fan of boatloads of electronics in cars. It's so distracting to have several screens doing a million things. They could make their cars less expensive *and* appealing to folks that want to pay attention to the road without distractions. Every manufacturer is going this route, and it would be a nice differentiator.
They have tried. But they tried it in China, where the competition is fiercest. Their PHEVs have a bad reputation because of some serious design flaws, not to mention the price. For example, the first-generation CR-V PHEV only has a 26-litre fuel tank. And their first-generation Accord PHEV puts its battery behind the rear seat, creating a huge hump in the boot.
Honda just needs to focus more on doing what made them such a great company in the first place by building engines and vehicles based on quality, dependability, and reliability (QDR). Honda needs to stop focusing on keeping up with the competition and focus on doing better as a company and as a brand. If Honda can invest more of their time and resources on their QDR it will help reduce the number of recalls for their brand and help boost the high level of quality that they were known for in the past. Never forget "kaizen" Honda!
I just bought a new Honda CR-V 2024. I had been saving more than 5 years. I had two previous Hondas, and I love them. I hope I didn't make a mistake after all my time saving. I definitely got a discount but it was small. I wanted some bells and whistles, too. I know this contributed to the price. I checked the consumer report as well. I definitely tested and drove other brands before Honda to be objective. I made my final decision with Honda, though...
The fancy tech is just a way to get people in. It's all shiny and new that people forget to check the engine which makes the car a CAR . I think and I hope, your CR-v is gonna do very good. Always remember, use recommended and orignal Honda parts, don't try to save extra money because in the long run it will cost more. Always get serviced from authored center as if possible, get it serviced infront of you (you might have to wait 1-2 hrs in front of your car while they are working on it
Bought my first Honda, an Accord, five years ago. Still have it. It's a great car. No drama. Nothing breaks on it. It's fun to drive compared to the Nissans, Jeeps and Fords I owned in the past. And, it's more reliable. My next car will be a Honda.
Anyone that still thinks EV is going to be a thing anytime soon is living in a California fantasy world so ending it there is so weird. The market might think EV is something but the average car buyer doesn’t, and crashing demand for anything EV has made that clear. Meanwhile Honda Pilots have a waiting list at most dealerships, but you conveniently left that point out.
The demand for EVs isn’t crashing by any means. The model Y is the best selling suv in the world, every single western automaker is failing in china as people refuse to buy their ICE engines in favor of electric ones, sales are growing 40-60% year over year in the US, this is the future. You can whine all you want, they’re here to stay. Honda can keep selling gas guzzlers for another few years but as battery tech improves and the shortfalls of EVs go away and the market pivots, they’re gonna be left behind if they don’t start trying. Hondas first EV that they just launched a few months ago is also quickly becoming a best seller… so clearly people want one
@@staycgirlsitsgoingdown2 Not true is it. In China number plates are issued by a lottery. Highest bidder wins. It is extremely hard to get a numberplate. For electric cars no lottery needed. @ That and the fact that you don’t have to pay for gas and it’s always fullly charged every morning and their coming down in price and their higher tech and they need no maintenance… people are just starting to prefer them because it’s a better ownership experience
Main problem with Honda is every manufacturers, bureaucrats pushing emissions cap that make them less reliable, like GDI turbos, CVTs. GM/Ford cylinder deactivation, Nissan CVTs, DEF.. etc, all this tech makes cars less reliable but meet bureaucratic standards. The consumer ends up suffering for it.
Preach it. The 1% ers are to blame and ideology. As long as you have maroons saying climate change is more dangerous than nuclear war. You know things are messed up.
2012 TL 157k miles and still quick as ever. No major issues thank goodness with normal maintenance. Thing has been a dream and no maintenance. I dread the day I have to spend 30 on a base civic
It's a race to the bottom for all manufacturers, when you see these previously unheard of issues with Toyota and Honda. Eventually the market will straighten itself out (like the fact EVs are so cheap today) so I'm sure Honda and Toyota will right the ship and be around for at least another 100 years.
Modern turbo Si is NOT fun to drive. It's slow to rev, runs out of huff early, and generally feels slow, because it is slow and under powered. NSX got it's lunch eaten by C8 Corvettes. Nothing in their lineup is noteworthy except the Civic Type R, but that thing costs as much as a performance sedan, so that makes no sense at all.
✅ love the old hondas! Unfortunately, Honda is the NEXT MITSUBISHI and TOYOTA is NEXT NISSAN! They are to dependent on a shrinking US market with an aging 4% of global population. Honda with Nissan, Mitsu, and US market is ALL IN DECLINE DRASTICALLY! TRUMP will save FORD, GM and ignore all others! VW, TOYOTA, HONDA, NISSAN...5 TO 10YRS AND THEY WILL DISAPPEAR! CHINA IS DISRUPTING ALL MARKETS! USA makes a big deal of its shrinking car market. BUT CHINA already realize the global south with growing population and market is a better return! ✅
Honda is not cool at all. They're vanilla cars. As a former owner of a brand new 2000 Civic Si, which was a fun car with a redline of 8000rpm and weigh only 2550lbs, the cars Honda makes now are pretty boring apart from the CTR and Integra Type S. Their problematic 1.5L, uninspiring CVT, and countless automatic transmission issues dating back since the 90s has turned me away from the brand.
I was never a hyundai fan up until recently, the santa cruz is the next truck I want. Made in America, best warranty across the board and just innovative.
Honda was such a cool company. Remember the Prelude with all wheel steering, VTec, the cool Integra, Civic SI, used to be an amazing company making fun driving cars that everyone could afford.
I bought my 2023 Civic hatch 2.0 with the 6 speed 1.5 years ago and absolutely love the car… I intentionally sought out the car for the fun and reliability
Bought a A45 and within one year need to be in a trailer towing back 250km back to service center due to some electrical chipping issues while my fd2 RR 2007 still runs super smoothly for 17 years till today and the 2nd hand value is still high due to limited units. The only problem is, got to be extra careful on your whereabouts driving this vehicle coz of gta due to its limitation and sought after rare parts. I’m blessed and happy with the opportunity to owning one of the rarest models available from Honda.
Owned nothing but Honda's in the 90's and 00's. I had an Accord, Odyssey and Pilot in the garage at one point. Then my wife's brand spanking new 2015 Odyssey started leaking rain water from the moonroof and shade holder. It also had a major suspension issue squiky noises when driving over speedbumps. Dealer couldn't figure it out, nor willing to address the issues appropriately. Sold her Odyssey the very next day at a huge loss. Since then switched to Palisade, Sienna, Tucson, Elantra, RAV4 and a Grand Highlander. We are very happy with these vehicles. Have not owned a Honda for 10 years now. Too bad cause back in the 90's Hondas were terrific. I wonder if their cars not being built in Japan but rather in the States jad anything to do with their quality gone down hill.....
@@SDpapa you probably just got a bad one. The odyssey you had was built in Alabama as was your pilot most likely. If you had a 2008-12 V6 accord also that factory, if not Ohio. But even in the 90s they were built in America mostly, civics and accords have always been US or Canada since the 80s
What I want from Honda is what they've historically made: a practically scaled car (in my case, that means a hatchback with a good boot) that keeps going for 100K miles. I don't mind paying a bit more for that, as long as I pay less in repairs down the road.
Has my Honda Civic since 2012. Never had a single issue with it. I’m sticking with Honda for life. I do agree they should work on lowering their prices if possible.
Bought 6 Hondas since 1987. After doing every service & meticulously maintaining it, our 2017 Accord Touring blew a head gasket. Spoke with several technicians - the cost cutting & crap engineering of the new Hondas is killing the brand. Personally, I’m done. Never buying a Honda again !!!
All new cars ,the same. 100K is all you can expect form most cars. This is what manufacturers claim is a lifetime The regulations and DEI and Wokeism and the 1%ers are wrecking everything. Ideologues. Yuck.
One of the things I liked about early Hondas was that it started first as an engineering company. I had an 83 Honda Civic wagon with the CVCC engine. It wouldn't win any races. The engine was really fuel efficient and the automatic transmission had the bang shift you'd expect in that era.
I wish I could go back in time and purchase a 2000 Honda Civic Si, a 2001 Honda Prelude Type SH, a 2001 Acura Integra Type R, a 2005 Acura NSX, a 2006 Acura RSX Type S, and a 2009 Honda S2000 CR. Those were all great DRIVER'S cars. They haven't made anything since that even remotely gets my blood pressure up. When they announced the return of the Integra, I was ready to be the first person in line to buy one... but then I saw it.
In my country at least, Honda cars are still the top choice compared to other Japanese brands. We still have the Jazz, Fit & City available which are the affordable models. Maybe it's different in western countries. I am currently selling off my local made car and buying a Honda.
With the CRV not offering things like a panoramic roof, cooled seats, and plug in hybrids they shot themselves in the foot. Rav 4 offers it all for the same $
Honda lost it's edge because they lost their legendary reliability, simple easy to fix, durable as heck, and affordable price. That is why others went elsewhere!
@@CedroCron Last time I checked, it was Toyota installing new engines in hundreds of thousands of new cars, so nope... it's Toyota. Honda still has great reliability, probably best of them all because the reason Toyota is now suffering, is they are making cars they didn't want to make (not boring to drive), and they're paying the price. Others like Mazda are buying engines from Toyota. Americans are... Americans, and Koreans have stepped up their game, but still you can see some KIAs and Hyundais catching on fire and its resale value going down the toilet. But nice try.
Me as well.. I just dont use it for winter, so that they dont rust out!!😂 this will last forever and pass it on to a love one, once Im gone! The style is timeless it never looks outdated, most cars now a-days look like alien space cars, COOL! but everyday I see these cars they look weird!
Oh for sure! 💯 Couldn’t believe the material in the new Land Cruiser and what they are trying to charge for it. I mean I love toyota but man they got their heads so far up their own rear end they need to wake up! They are trying to charge like its the G wagon. 🙈
I love Hondas but they’ve gotten so expensive for what you’re getting. I don’t wanna spend nearly $35,000 on a CRV and have a rubber steering wheel and a tiny 7” screen. Also the Accord has a very similar starting price as the Camry, but the base model Camry is a hybrid and the base model Accord isn’!
Another issue is Honda makes cars for people who love driving. The issue is the market has shifted to people who want the cars to do the driving. Their old company saying of man maximum machine minimum is still true but it is more diluted. I hope they stay true to being a driver’s car company. I understand with regulations they can’t remake great hits of the past. As long as they make the process of driving fun, engaging and enjoyable they won’t lose their identity. They just have to capture drivers to love fun to drive cars again by having an edge in style or emotion factor or some sort of innovative feature.
I had a 2006 Civic coupe with a manual. It had so many problems I never bought a Honda again. Nothing to do with the engine or transmission, I had to replace the driver side sun visor at least 5 times because it would fail and droop right in my view. The cruise control button broke, the automatic driver side door lock broke, the driver side power window motor broke. The shifter ball cracked, the paint on the hood spider cracked on the entire surface. And it was the loudest car I’ve ever owned. My 1988 CRX was fantastic, but built in Japan. These American/Canadian built Hondas don’t compare.
Honda cars, in general, were more fun to drive than competitors. However, ever since they added CVT, company has been going down. The worst car they've made recently is probably HR-V. HR-V feels more like a Toyota than a Honda
Slava TOYOTA 😎 Scotty Kilmer
I'd rather buy a car built in Japan than the U.S. the majority of Hondas in the U.S. now are built in the u.s.
... the quality shows
Exactly. What’s the point of bringing manufacturing back to America if they’re gonna churn out cheaply made garbage at a premium price?
The Canadian made ones are good
I totally get what you're saying, I like Japanese cars, and when I say Japanese, I mean Japanese, stuff that is designed, engineered, built and sold in the home market, I want to be able to go to Japan and see my car driving on the streets over there, "Japanese" cars that are designed in America for the American market does nothing for me. If there's one thing I really like about my third generation Mazda 6 is that it's a genuine Japanese car, designed, engineered and built in Japan, by the Japanese, placed on a ship and brought to America.
Nothing unpopular about it
You are absolutely correct
Nothing unpopular about your opinion. One of the reasons I bought a Mazda CX5 was that it was assembled in Japan.
Honda like all automakers got rid of their practical/affordable cars like The Fit, and replaced them with expensive SUVs.
The honda fit and Toyota echo are easily some of the best bang for buck on the road. Solid 30 year cars, everyday.
I miss my Honda fit so much
Unfortunately american car culture is not about utility but cool toys
Agreed. Honda wont be all that cool again until it stops making so many SUV's. SUV's are never cool.
I recently bought an 8-year-old Jazz.
Honda never tried to be cool, the aftermarket and street racing and customization made them cool. Remember Toyota made Scion a whole new company just to try to be cool like Honda with customization.
Wasn’t Scion supposedly pushed towards the younger audience for their affordability
Well said!
@@rogerdodgerxd for a while it did! But then they stopped the customization and didn't provide what younger generations needed with technology. Kia has kind of taken that scion place and excelled at providing good quality cards with loads of tech,

Their cars are too expensive for what you get. They want to compete with luxury cars but aren’t offering luxury cars.

It’s MSM lies 😂
Lucid Air Sapphire, an EV 4-doors sedan, "smokes" any current Lamborghinis. Just sayin'.
I'm telling you Mazdaz's have been slept on for a while now not to mention their engines being Toyota made.
just the CX-50, not their lineup as assumed with your statement
Exactly ... Mazda teamed up with Toyota because the Mazda engines were outperforming Toyota engined in fuel economy and design.
It's why I drive a current gen Mazda3 awd hatchback.
So you mean the brand cannot keep up making good engines?
I owed an 05 AP2, 99 civic SI , and now with the 08 CR, I can tell you these “old” Hondas are truly special. The problem is (I think) Honda used to make cars that their engineers wanted to drive. And now of course they make cars that everyday people would drive, and that takes away the “special” mojo.
The S2000, what an epic ride. They need something similar or a new Prelude.

Earlier this year, I test-drove Toyota RAV4 Prime, Honda CRV, Hyundai Tuscon, Kia Sportage, Mazda CX5. I tested only hybrid and top tier (trim) versions only. (Cx5 is only one that doesn't offer a hybrid version, yet)
Here is my ranking in comfort and smooth driving, technology, features, warranty, and the price.
1. Hyundai Tuscon/Kia Sportage
2. Honda CRV
3. RAV4
4. Mazda CX5
I ended up buying Kia Sportage PHEV SX-Line Sportage.
Honda and Toyota have infotainments look like from the 1990s in the year 2025.
No 360-degree cam or parking like Kia/Hyundai and many other features missing. No USB C in 2024 models.
Toyota/Honda 60,000 warranty
Hyundai/Kia 100,000 warranty.

The safety aspect pertaining to said fault is what dictates urgent. Supply chains are hurting the entire industry, don't blame your local dealer.

They know it all...
I think late 90s to early 2000s Hondas were the best. I also think Honda is on top of game when it comes to manual transmission.
The problem Honda doesn’t realize is a lot of people don’t like turbo small engines. Higher maintenance and less longevity aren’t good selling points.
I bought a Honda lawnmower and let it run low on oil. It started knocking. I put oil in it and expected it to last a month. That was three years ago.
Hyundai is doing their best to improve their reputation.
Honda doesn't need to do their best because of their already established reputation.
Reputation of stolen cars 😂
KIA, Hyundai and Nissan are junk

PS I bought my orange Element EX-P six years ago.
CRV with engine problems? Did you change oil? 😅
Even though I have enough money for a new car, I decided to buy a low mileage 2007 CR-V. Screw all that new junk
What year integra did you have?
My first was an '88 CRX, loved that car. Bring that one back.
I think honda has been far too conservative with their car designs and figures. Cars have added more power in most brands. The Si has been underpowered for years. Acuras are considerably down on power vs their competition. Power isnt everything but Honda continually takes the safest most tame route which makes comparisons look underwhelming.

The upside of conservative design, is the car will still look good in 20 years.
Honda and Acura are just very outdated. Conservative is a very soft word when GM makes better vehicles right now vs Honda-Acura. 10 years ago I would not believe it is possible.
The new accord is HIGHLY DISAPPOINTING.
You don’t even have it. People talk so much crap driving an old ass car. The car is nice looking, high quality interior, good hybrid engine.

I loved my Honda until the AC start to fail every two years. I know that it has something to do with EPA , bs 1234yf and whatnot but still
@@dootdoot1867good thing Honda is starting to phase the turbo out.
Less features yet have the same prices is the problem
I think the short supply of certain toyotas are by design to promote scarcity for a premium
@TheMrJourneyer Toyotas fleet sales are up to 20%. Honda has a 2% fleet sale limit. Simply Google "Toyotas secret weapon fleet sales"
People over thinking a car company. Just buy what you want and upkeep it with short maintenance intervals. If a recall happens, get it done. It's not that serious.
It’s that simple.
Amen
I absolutely appreciate the Nissan ad during this video. Well done, Nissan 😂
The competition is leaps ahead of them.
acura is trash
In Europe/JP they have more variety in the smaller cars (like Kei cars).
You can still buy the Type R which is made in Japan and is fastest FWD car.
Thank the EPA/CAFE regulations (meaning the One World Order, pushing to cancel your freedoms) for that.
If you're in Canada, you don't really need AC.
@@bwofficial1776 it's only in Summers during afternoons. Due to greenhouse effect in car. 😅
my POV (Bought a car for everyday use).
Hondas used an eCVT and can operate in series and parallel modes. Note series is effectively the same thing as range extender mode
The Honda Clarity was a PHEV similar to the Volt for most U.S. buyers. It was only available a few years though.
Honda is king… 😅
@@realnapster1522 😆😅✌🏽
You did well chica. Don’t let these clowns at MSNBC influence you.
Everybody who can buy electric gets a numberplate no problem
There is your electric car growth. It is an artifical demand.
@ That and the fact that you don’t have to pay for gas and it’s always fullly charged every morning and their coming down in price and their higher tech and they need no maintenance… people are just starting to prefer them because it’s a better ownership experience
Now I know why my Jazz was flying on the highway recently at 110kmph without even slowing down on up hills. It is the brilliance of the Honda Engine
Toyota and Hondas are the best car brands out there.
The price ot the TypeR are ridiculos ! NEVER pay this price
I mean the Type R IS a performance sedan. Just because it isnt some $60k BMW M car doesn’t mean it isn’t. Its still overpriced for sure though.
Corvette.??? Who wants a fibreglass car? Barbie or Ken And a Fibreglass car on a truck body no less.
Excellent public reporting. Thank you CNBC for such engaging material.
Honda in Europe is dying even faster than in US.
Europeans are smarter than Americans. Americans love ugly slow ooor quality hondas. Europeans do not.
thats a damn shame
@ not really. Europeans are smart and know Honda is trash
I had 2021 Honda civic sport for two years I loved the car! My family got bigger and I decided to get 4 runner to replace it
The Acura TSX wagon was such a cool car but they killed it. They indeed don’t have the same charm anymore
Also the NSX, S2000, and the Type-R trims.
I'm still driving a 97 Prelude, but most newer offerings can't be had with a stick and just feel bloated.
I freaking love Honda!!!!
Their accord looks likes a damn boat
Yep, ZERO personality
The Accord shown in the video is a decade+ old. The new ones are much more stylish in comparison.
My parents had a 1996 Honda Accord Wagon which lasted until 2014, best car ever made!!
I bought my 2023 Civic hatch 2.0 with the 6 speed 1.5 years ago and absolutely love the car… I intentionally sought out the car for the fun and reliability
Their profits were down 94% in the three months. It's not competitive in electric cars.
Grown up in a Honda family and I don't see myself owning another Honda due to bad experience with their cars. Fix your software and quality issues!
This is what manufacturers claim is a lifetime
The regulations and DEI and Wokeism and the 1%ers are wrecking everything. Ideologues. Yuck.
One of the things I liked about early Hondas was that it started first as an engineering company. I had an 83 Honda Civic wagon with the CVCC engine. It wouldn't win any races. The engine was really fuel efficient and the automatic transmission had the bang shift you'd expect in that era.
I would buy one of Hondas manual vehicles if they were affordable 😊
I wish I could go back in time and purchase a 2000 Honda Civic Si, a 2001 Honda Prelude Type SH, a 2001 Acura Integra Type R, a 2005 Acura NSX, a 2006 Acura RSX Type S, and a 2009 Honda S2000 CR. Those were all great DRIVER'S cars. They haven't made anything since that even remotely gets my blood pressure up. When they announced the return of the Integra, I was ready to be the first person in line to buy one... but then I saw it.
Honda is not going to be cool again as long as they are putting those whimpy 1.5 engines and CVTs
Blame the emissions regs. Smaller engines burning less gas, but they also run hotter, higher stress, and last like half as long.
Rav 4 offers it all for the same $
Cool story bro. Go buy a RAV4 and go away
Thank you for your permission! I did and it’s better than your inferior CRV! …. Bro
I love both brands Honda and Toyota but for me Toyota is doing a better job bringing us drivers cars like Supra, GR86, GR Yaris ❤❤❤❤
Honda lost it's edge because they lost their legendary reliability, simple easy to fix, durable as heck, and affordable price. That is why others went elsewhere!
They haven't. You're thinking of the one blowing engines left and right
@@disco.lemonade Nope, it's Honda!
@@disco.lemonade Where did I say Toyota? ... Also sorry you are so butt hurt about my comment.
Honda wants to be cool, bring back things like the Accord EXR with a manual, should have around 300hp. I'd buy that tomorrow.
In the US, beancounting brings companies to its knees. In Japan, rigid and risk adverse culture does it in.
I am still driving my 2000 civic today, best car ever made by Honda.
Me as well.. I just dont use it for winter, so that they dont rust out!!😂 this will last forever and pass it on to a love one, once Im gone!
The style is timeless it never looks outdated, most cars now a-days look like alien space cars, COOL! but everyday I see these cars they look weird!
I think Honda is doing better in the quality department than Toyota as of recent.
Oh for sure! 💯 Couldn’t believe the material in the new Land Cruiser and what they are trying to charge for it. I mean I love toyota but man they got their heads so far up their own rear end they need to wake up! They are trying to charge like its the G wagon. 🙈
Honda engines are bulletproof. You buy the car for the engine
Love their NSR two-stroke motorcycles
The new Accord is ugly.
Yes, they're late to the EV race, but folks are opting for hybrids more so, and Honda makes very good hybrids. The new Civic hybrid is highly praised.
My 2018 Honda Fit was very unreliable and poorly made. I dont recommend Honda to anyone.
It had issues after issues for no reason
My mom had a Fit as well and it was awful. Don’t know why so many love them
