suggestion: add a 2" receiver to near the top of the boom, facing rearward. lower the boom, attach the trailer so that you can use the trailer like a tilt-deck. back it up to the broken machine, and then use the winches to drag the broken machine up the tilted trailer, strap it down, and then use the boom to lower the trailer down low enough to stabilize it and re-hook up to the back of the wrecker.
I agree that Kaulin’s skill level in maneuvering the Wrecker in this episode was ‘Han Solo and the Millennium Falcon’ worthy! Great job. Super entertaining!
Every time I see the wrecker in action I am taken back to about 1960 when I got a "remote" controlled tank. There was a thin wire from remote to tank. The tanks was about 3 ft long. But it would climb over anything. My friends and I would build obstacles for it to crash thru or climb over. The wrecker gives that exact feeling. Thanks.
I used to have a collie that I used to gather sheep. In the winter, she would lie up against the fire box of the range in the kitchen, in the summer, after being out gathering sheep off the moors, she would jump straight into the water trough when we got back to the farmhouse. I also had another collie that I trained for search and rescue, she would surmount any obstacle in her way. There's no finer breed of dog!!
One thing for sure is you are never at a loss for bridge building material. I love how Peanut never misses a chance to flop down in water!! Thanks again for taking us along.
I was in Utah Earlier this week and got the joy of visiting the yard and seeing the all the rigs in person including the in process spud truck. Wow the wrecker is a machine and so cool to be up close to along with the rest of the fleet. Thanks to Matt for letting fans come into the yard and take look around. If your ever in the area definitely stop in there.
I love watching the trailer recoveries. Mainly because they're such a logistical nightmare sometimes, and it's great to watch the skill with which the driver operates the rig through trails. Sidenote, I have no idea why anyone would put portal boxes on a SXS. They already are known for weak suspension links and joints.
How are Max and Lady? I know Max loved to play magician and disappear, so he was cut from the recovery team and assinged to the Shop team, but what about Lady?
I love the "not real" bit! 🤣👍The trailer explanation too -- especially funny when you know how big Matt is! 🤣🤣🤣I admit I've made comments like that, but I like to think they were _almost all_ a long time ago in another field. 😉
That was an impressive display of driving ability by Colin. Very well done, that was a lot of complex maneuvering and he handled it like it was second nature. The kid is a unit!
food for thought. this situation with the SxS brings to mind a an idea ive had a few times watching ORR content and thats a collapsible A- frame gantry that you can set up over a vehicle with a snatch block or something so you can redirect force straight up. like in this instance you put the gantry over the SxS wench the front off the ground strapp it to the gantry then back the trailer under it. (bonus pints for being able to quick pin the gantry to the trailer itself). other times would be to like brake suction on deep mud mud. set it up on traction pads or something to give it wider foot print so it doesnt sink as fast. or like if a vehicle is high centered on a rock, set it up just forward of the direction your pulling it off so you can pull up and off at the same time instead of just pulling a wheel straight into the rock, i feel like the use case is unlimited its just hassle vs reward to use it. have each leg of it be sliding with HD pins, like the ones they use on foldable engine hoists, to set the over all length then have the foot plates be attached with some beefy all thread that you can adjust in and out so you can do fine adjustments (the thread length needs to be equal to the distance between pin holes) that way you can set it up on uneven terrain and have every foot equally planted and have the hole thing use quick pins to set up and break down and in theory it should all fit into a bag about the size of those portable pop up awnings. it'd just be heavy but you got roof racks and stuff to hold it. id love to hear why this is a bad idea or a good one tho
For Peanut initially being Jefe's rescue dog, she sure has fallen in love with you Matt! What a great video and such a pleasure to watch you working with your sons! Thanks for bringing us along!
Excellent job. I wondered if the Wrecker / Trailer combo would be a great team. Apologies for being a Monday Morning type but I had two questions/observations. 1) Why not back the trailer to the rear wheels, move the wrecker and lift the front end of the razr with the boom, and let the trailer winch pull it on while minimizing the body drag ? 2) I know the ramps always seem to be an issue. Why not add eye mounts and put pins thru to lock the ramps to the trailer so they don’t pop out when dragging a vehicle up ? Excellent job again and love watching the family getting it done so well !
Matt, people forget, every recovery is different. Spinning a trailer is easy on pavement but extremely difficult or even dangerous on uneven of angle trails. I have enjoyed seeing the many different ways you have solved the logistics of recovering vehicles.
For the future: Large arch bars (on both sides of trailer) w/rings at top to pull up on nose of vehicle. Obviously removable and stored up under trailer (or sides of truck for temporary case usage.)
@@tylercombs6421 For some reason chickens have real stable heads. They even beat the best stabilizers. So you gotta put a chicken on peanut and a camera on the chicken.
With GoPro's at least, they make a harness for dogs that you mount to the body, and the action camera on that, with stabilization (which is normally on, even on this channel) and it should be usable. I've seen it in action and it does work. Especially if you mount a GoPro 360 Max to the pooch.
I had an unscheduled vanilla malt shake with Harrison Ford 5 times at the Jackson Hole Drugstore. He told me a very dirty joke. We just had similar schedules when vanilla malt was the goal.
When you said the importance of the ball joint. I heard Seinfeld talking about the "keeping" of the reservation. It's really the most important part. Today's commentary was just great. Peanut was tellling you boys to pull the golf card on with the back wheels first. 😊 How was he telling us that since dogs don't talk? He was no where in sight while you front loaded it. 😂
You should build an off road rollback. Maybe a 6x6 or something. Seriously, you should build a tilt bed trailer for these occasions. Will the 6x6 fit anywhere the wrecker will?
I realize that the camera doesn't catch everything. Or doesn't give the true scale of everything. I also realize that you can't carry every concievable tool. But more than once I've wondered why you and the other YT towers don't bring any ski(d)s on the rescues where you know you'll be dealing with a vehicle that can't even roll. Tucking a pair of runners or skis under something that can't roll can make it amazingly easier to drag along. There's one guy in particular, who likes to "rescue" heavy iron, who'll happily drag a dozer with locked treads for miles down dirt roads. Admittedly, the stuff I drag is a lot lighter than most vehicles. But then again, it's usually me - not a machine - that does the pulling. Apart from that, I like the attitude and the spirit in these videos. If I was doing your kind of work, I'd try carrying something like two pieces of road guard rail with a ski tip bend at one end. I'm quite certain that'd make dragging uncooperative/un-operating vehicles along a lot easier.
When the trailer came through that one wash it looked like Peanut was in charge .. the way she was checking out the tires as it went by the low place...

It’s easy to forget just how big the wrecker is. Backing up that trailer and being able to compare the size of those trailer tires, which look pretty beefy, to the wrecker’s enormous tires made me chuckle.
capt crazy talk... fer getting that galf kart up on the trailer, you could for go the ramps, and just use the wrecker to raise the front of the trailer, making it a tilt deck, at least to get the front started, then rehook... probably more work, but its an idea.
We all know your against a tow bar for the back of the wrecker but I could see a multipurpose a-frame for flat surface towing with the wrecker and a a-frame that could be hooked to the back of the trailer to run the winch lines over so you don’t have to drag up ramps and get those sxs with broken front ends on easier.
Should look into a log arch system to lift load onto the trailer, two lines on the wrecker would allow for a mid trailer hoop. One line through a block to the vehicle and the other to control the hoop. I need another cup of coffee.

What's the problem guys just pick up the sxs with your hands and toss it on the trailer lol.

you guys need to pick up a couple of old school lunch trays to use as sliding pads for things like that they slide real nice...
How about a light weight log-arch type thing-ama-jig on the trailer to lift these broken sxs as you winch them up? Would it add too much weight?
