  • In this video we identify the Curly Dock plant ( all docks are edible ) and then we harvest the seeds and make it into a flour substitute. This was a fun video to make.

Thank you so much ! We all need to know all about this type of life saving information. This information is important to pass down to your children. Remember to help each other also.

Thanks for sharing. Tonight I made a vegan Irish soda bread with whole wheat flour, ground flax and ground curly dock seeds and used elderberry (cooked and sweetened with sugar) instead of raisins, and homemade applesauce instead of oil/eggs to bind it. The ground flax when wet is also a very good binder.

Used your bannock recipe, using dock flour. Doubled the sugar, though.
    Great success!
I'll have to get back to you later on how it affects my gastrointestinal regularity, but it tasted as good as anything. I will definitely be foraging more of this as I come across it.

Very nice, I feel real comfortable in my ability being able to identify and use this plant. as For a grinder I've been looking at the Back to basics Hand Grain mill, it's only 69.95 on amazon, I know it's no wonder mill but I think it's worth the shot. Can't wait to see how this flour turns out Joe
    Take care
    Pete

Good vid with good information, I feel good about identifing dock now! I never knew you could make flour out of the seeds, dock is all over the place here in Ohio where I am from. I watched tamr from Buschraft On Fire and she cans the leaves for winter use.

Oh my goodness I had no idea this plant was edible! There is tons of it growing on my parent's land. I can't wait for the fall when I can harvest it all.
There is also tons of cattail on the property which I will be annihilating! ha ha

Interesting that you ground the chaff up with the seed. I just made a small amount of flour with just the seeds. It is VERY bitter, though...

Gastrointestinal effects minimal. Might be different eating it for an extended period of time, or it might also mean that I might benefit from more fiber.

how would you hand grind this like such as a native american might without a blender?
