Thought you already knew what you were doing when you made the video. I was surprised when you said at the end, "now that I know how to do it." LoL.. I'm gonna give it a try, got roots drying now.

Very interesting video. We have lots of cattails I want to make use of in this kind of way. Thank you.

Just peel, dry, and use a mortar and pestle or a coffee grinder. Easier I think! Awesome video, I favorited and liked it, thanks.

Sharon Wright If you take the time to do this, you will be amazed at how delicious it is. also if you watch the video on collecting the pollen and using it for the same things, its delicious as well. Thank you for the nice comment. Joe

In especially dire circumstances, I wonder if the coarser grits would be good as a porridge or hot cereal if that's all you had. Like in the worst situation like being stranded out in the wilderness with nothing but the land to survive upon. A nice side dish to some wild bird and berries?

I think if you pound the roots and then soak them and let the flour settle and then pour off the liquid and let it dry to the consistency of a wet dough, you can add flour and a rising agent to it to make your bread dough. In other words, you don't need to make flour, just dough to cook with.

I have just started looking into using cattail for floor but your video is awesome.. and gave me some good ideas.. once you have peeled the cattail could you not take a large bowel with warm water put a medium strainer in it and break up all the fibers with the strainer then pour the slurry through a coffee filter and then set that out to dry and then just break it off the coffee filter once its dry? would be cool to see a video.. I am still trying to ID the cattails in my area..

Boil the water, then the water will be gone and the flower and starch will stay in, that will give you more flower grom the water

Haha. This is a very old video and that camera really sucked. This channel has come a long way from what it was back then.

Hi, i really need your help. im doing a research about cattail flour and i've tried making it twice but everytime i dry it under the sun, it turns into yellow. Am i doing something wrong?
should i let the rhizomes dry first before i scrape it?

Just peel, put in oven to dry, then grind. Why to many extra steps also it can be used by itself, according to my great aunt.
