Great advice on the richer Chardonnay. The mistake some folks make is popping (when young) and pouring (without properly decanting) the more extracted, riper Chardonnays. Often it’s over-chilled to cover up the flavor. As noted, the key to this type of Chardonnay is balance. And when it’s young, this type of big wine can easily flop on the pop and pour. It’s too dense to throw off aromatics and you will miss the things that ultimately will make it very good wine with nice secondary aspects. There’s plenty of nice white wine that works on a pop and pour.

Please try CS (Substance) when you go back for Reds. I think it's one of the best wines available (price for value) in North America and I would love to see your reaction(s). The prior vintage made WS's top 100. Love the channel, the camaraderie and the laid back approach to wine enjoyment/education. Keep it going!

뉴질랜드에 지냈을때 크레기 랜지 와인 자주 마셨어요 현지에서는 가격대비 맛이 아주 좋았었는데 추천해주시니 괜히 기분이 좋네ㅎㅎ

Excellent Costco infomercial. Wine mavin here in Atlanta. Sadly wine prices in our Costcos are on par with the liquor stores, but without the case discount, so it is rare that I buy there. Also, your California prices are about $3-5+ dollars per bottle less than what we are paying here on the East Coast. Please tell me the crab legs were NOT $9.99/lb! We are at about $23/pound these days, it's cheaper to hit our local Korean market for fresh Dungeness for $16/lb. Wine wise, I've seen all of your selections here, with the exception of the Le Cutrer. I've always enjoyed Sonoma Cutrer chardonnay, but tend to avoid it at $23/bottle. I've never heard of Le Cutrer, and love aged chards. Even at the high price, I'll be looking for it. Thanks for the Craggy Ridge and the Martin Ridge suggestions, along with the Etude. Next trip. For those who have come this far, the Kirkland labled wines are dirt cheap, and with rare exceptions, very drinkable. No hail Maries here, but decent wine to serve a crowd, and more importantly, to cook with. Cheap, tasty, always available, you simply cannot go wrong with a coq au vin or beef Bourgogne (or recently a crab au gratin) using a Kirkland lable. Excellent video, and thank you for helping me spend my hard earned money. (Kirkland whisk(e)y are also fantastic buys, especially their single malt scotches)

Schramsberg blanc de blancs is one of the best sparkling wine for me!
I think that is better than normal level champagne, but Schramsberg is much more expensive in Korea....

지난주에는 클라우디 베이를 처음 마셔봤습니다.
덕분에 소주 50병 가격을 와인 두 병에 써버렸네요. ㅎㅎ
이번편 굉장히 흥미롭게 봤습니다. 고르는 기준과 알고리즘을 엿볼 수 있네요..저정도 가격에 저런 와인을 마구마구 집을 수 있는 미국도 부럽네요ㅠㅠ

The Etude has no oak. From the winery:
We harvested the Pinot Gris into small bins at night and rushed them to our winery in order to retain the freshness and purity of the fruit. After gently pressing the whole clusters, the juice for the 2018 Pinot Gris was transferred to small, 75-gallon stainless steel barrels for fermentation, and then allowed to mature undisturbed for five months sur lie (ageing on the lees), enhancing the silky texture and mouthfeel, before a very gentle bottling. The wine never touches a sliver of oak, nor does any portion undergo malolactic fermentation. Residual Sugar is modest, at 0.7gms/L.

미국에서 $43.99면 거의 5만원정도인데.. 한국에서도 루이 뢰더러 브뤼 가격은 장터가격 기준 6.5만원이예요. 어지간한 제품은 세상에서 젤 싼 미국과 비교했을 때 상당히 준수한 가격이라고 봅니다만 ㅎ
떼땅저도 확실히 훨씬 싸네요...ㅠㅠ

Hi there, I left this Q on the previous episode but it looks like it’s not monitored after a few days...so, here is the question again. Sorry for posting it here but it has been bugging me so much that I beg your understanding.
During the last episode, Patrick said, sashimi (esp. red fleshed like tuna) can go well with “unoaked” Pinot and Sangiovese. But then:
Q1: My understanding is that most (if not all) Pinot is made with oak?
Q2: The Pinot you opened during the episode was called by Patrick as “medium oak with some new oak” and then went on to have with Sushi?!?!
Is there any other rules beside use of “oak” when matching red with sashimi? Hope you could enlighten me...
