- A 25-year-experience master of wine selects red wines at a Costco. The budget on wine is $250 and one extra wine with unlimited budget. We’ll enjoy the wines with hand made pizza baked in a wood fired oven! 7 bottles were chosen. What do you think he chose?

Your channel is great. I have always been interested in wine but never knew what is considered good wine based on unlimited choices. The recommendations by your mentors and yourself is a good way to start. The best thing about your mentors is that they are very relatable not like the snobby sommeliers you see in fancy restaurants.

I just happened to purchase one last week and gave it a try. It is quite fruity for me, some what too much.
Depends on the vintage. Had a case from 1997. The last few bottles opened stood up in the company of Plumpjack and Caymus.
Never thought I'd correct a master of wine, but the two stags leap wine are actually from different vineyards, one is stag's leap with the apostrophe before the s, one is stags' leap with it after the s.
They also used to have a big disagreement with each other in the 70s. The S' is the better one.
All due respect, don’t feel bad. That’s not a simple mistake. Anyone who knows anything about wine will know this like they know tying their shoes. He’s really not that versed in wines as he suggests.
More videos please. I love the tasting of quality wines purchased reasonably at Costco!!

I have been enjoying wine for over 25 years. But I cannot distinguish the first thing about all the various characteristics you guys talk about. I know if I like the wine or not, and that is about it. How can I improve this? Or are some folks just destined to just enjoy wine, and not decipher the nuances? You have a great show, and I enjoy each episode immensely. Keep up the good work!

I think the second STAGS' Leap wine should be pronounced as Stags-es Leap. And that one I tried in nye it was so good that i want to buy more bottles of it. The two company names CAN get very confusing!! I have the artemis too but have not tried that one yet. Happy Birthday to the fun Bernadette! Please keep including her in your video Jay!!
san giusto is a wonderfull wine . don't know 18 but 17 and 16 were spectacular for the money! btw pretty fair markup : in italy you get it for around 18

As a wine junkie, it bums me out to see all of these great wines out in California. I live in Michigan, and our Costco doesn't have nearly the selection of great California wines. Stags Leap!??? Not just one, but two! Wow!
Would love to see you three review/taste test some wines from Mendocino County!! My Costco doesn't carry most of the wines that yours does.
Costco in Spain is fine, they have California wines, very good French, (from spain too) from 150 to 1200 a bottle, but I am surprised that they do not have a refrigerated chamber for these jewels. I think it is an important detail for these prices

Another fun movie. Just wondering, is there a list somewhere of all the bottles you guys have tasted? Just saw a bottle in the supermarket here which I think I saw in one of the movies, but can't remember if it was any good. It's a Mondavi cab. Sauv bourbon barrel aged

2014 was a great year for Pichon Lalande in Pauillac. probably best wine in Europe that year. Dominus is absolutely a GREAT wine. Made by the Petrus family.

I can't believe it, you "avoided" Villa Antinori, my #1 wine for pizza Italian style. I compared to over 10 other similar wines and only Antinori was so great. Especially if pizza has lots of tomato sauce like the Grand Ma pizza.
I love sparkling reds with Pizza actually. Antinori is usually great, a shame about the brett. Italian wines with higher acidity , Nebbiolo based (not from Barolo) hold up to greasy pizza, IMO. -Chris

The flacianello is exelent also. I'v bought 2016 to store for a while before drinking.
The longest stay of a wine in my cellar us 18 yrs and going (a vintage port). Wine develops in a decant not the same as those in the cellar.
And it was a 2012 on the shelf to be bought, I Just bought a 2017 and it is going into the cellar. Such an amazing selection for a Costco

Wow. Your Costco has a lot of big name label selections: Dominus, Flaccianello, BV, Purple Angel, etc. For 4 people, usually 3-4 bottles is enough for us, so I would've gotten 2 $125 dollar wines and the bonus wine although for pizza many of those high-end wines would be too big and oaky as you mentioned. For educational purposes though, it's good you got 7 bottles =)

맞습니다 세금의 문제죠
세금도그렇고 중간업자들이 마진을 많이 갖고가기도 하고 낮추려고하면 대기업에서 압박주고 이래서 낮추기가 어렵다 하더라구요..ㅠㅠ
와인을 싸게 공급하려 해도 싸게 판매했을때 가격이 시세로 굳어질까봐 수입사들이 압박 한다고 하더라구요.
이것도 결국 시장크기의 문제인것 같습니다.
아직은 우리나라 와인 시장이 파이가 작죠..

이 영상을 보고 있으니 생각난 건데요. 와인을 고르는 것도 이제 영상에 들어가는 만큼, 어떤 식으로 마셔야 하는지도 소개해줬으면 좋겠어요. 가글하듯 마시는 사람도 있고, 입안에서 굴리는 사람도 있고, 맛과 향을 음미하는 방법이 많을 듯 한데 그런 부분도 소개해줬으면 좋겠어요!
When it comes to pizza, especially if it's tomato-based sauce, I ALWAYS opt for a Lambrusco from Reggio Emilia

Yep, I had a 14 2 years ago, I have found most '14s and '08s, bucella, quintessa, joseph phelps, etc., are coming into there own now so 2017 will likely be awesome about 2025 or so to probably 2117

도미누스 200달러라니 세상에나 세금 제하고도 한 병 가격이 더 비네요. ㅎㅎㅎ 새삼 얼마나 황당한 환경에서 와인 취미를 영위하고 있었는지 실감합니다. 개인적으로는 화덕에서 막 꺼낸 피자 위에 신선한 채소를 덮어주듯 많이 올린걸 참 좋아합니다.ㅎㅎ

친구 녀석이랑 작년에 화덕 피자랑 브루넬로 디 몬탈치아노 마셨는데 정말 맛있더군여. 피자 콜라보다 좋았어요. 피자랑 이태리 와인 강추 합니다.😁😁😁 와인 가성비로도 이태리 와인이 정말 좋은 느낌을 받았어요. 작년 연말에 산페리체 일그리찌오 그랑 셀레지오네 15빈 행사가 6만원 주고 사서 마셨는데 정말 좋았습니다. 이런 좋은 밸런스의 와인을 6만원에 마실 수 있다니..ㅠㅠ
